Life changing video !!! This has eluded me for over 40 years and now ... "I get it" . Went to the range and had one of those fabulous Ah Ha moments over and over again by finally knowing what caused that last shot . So many times I've been left feeling ...wOw , great shot...wonder how that happened. Yep..distance, power, clubhead speed, repeatability with understanding, feeling of connectedness, ball compression feeling the ball "stick" on the face .... DYNAMACISM etc...
You guys are the best. Shift turn, shift turn. So simple. You guys opened me up to questioning everything ive learned and helped set the record straight on what the golf swing really is
Saw this video 2 months ago (July 2023). No video has ever helped me with the timing of my weight shift more than this. My swing thought is changed ever so slightly from what you illustrate. But it works: click, turn - click, hit. Thank you! I now find myself getting to my left side naturally and without forcing it late.
100% the best golf instruction on YT IMO!! Thanks guys. i've been in a bad place all summer and feel like i've forgotten how to swing a golf club and ready to give up. Your videos on re-centering and weight shift have gotten me back to a consistent striking again. thanks again for what you guys do!
This is game changing , I practiced this at the range and wow !! What a difference it made . It takes quite a few balls to time it up but once you get it you get it .
Every time I hear you guys say “Re-centering” it make me smile from total vindication, lol. Years ago I used to be called nuts when I said “These tour pros Re-center their point of rotation. Not sliding or swaying, literally shifting their center core of rotation where it allows the swing to stay in balance.” Well, not so nuts anymore, lol. That’s exactly what you guys have discovered and thankfully have taken that EXACT same term for its true meaning and instructional intention. If folks could focus specifically on keeping a straight spine, learn the proper way to make that weight shift, and be absolutely sure that shift happens BEFORE you finish the backswing, there would be a lot less balls to find in the woods, LMAO!!! It’s incredible how specifically important those three elements are to a swing that produces accurate ball flight. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
These two are the best, so calmly and nicely breaking down why you suck. This might be the one video every golfer should watch. Great information and the drills are doable. My swing feels simpler even though it is much faster. I was often playing golf off my back foot before, this brings the power. Pretty interesting to see a 10 mph jump in driver speed just through on-time weight transfer, which feels a lot earlier but is ultimately an easier swing to be consistent with. Fix this and a lot of other things are immediately cured.
The guys at Athletic Motion Golf are simply put, some of the very best golf teachers in the world today. And their videos are so easy to watch and more importantly easy to learn from, thank you gentlemen for your work in making each of us better golfers. Question, am I missing the link for the shifting board that was used in this video?
I first discovered this concept in your hip rotation video (G.E.A.R.S. trace the spine / pelvis / hips). Its easy to see why you guys are so successful by noticing and teaching this
Tiger has a slight forward press with his hands then about a 1 inch move to the right quad before takeaway! I've adjusted speed down to 0.5 and he does it with every club in the bag! Never noticed it before but this is the trigger for his swing.
You two and the data you share are absolutely amazing. I have added 15 to 20 yards to my game with the information you share so readily. You are a treasure to the game!
Pure poetry. I am doing this smooth move during the last 6 months because of your videos and it sends the ball a long way and straight. It feels like a more vertical one-piece takeaway feeling the coil in my back muscles. No more arm collapse hug. Then about 3/4 up I complete my backswing by letting the weight of my arms and right shoulder shift me easily back to center and then increasing weight on my left leg. By keeping that triangle area between my arms extended. I just stand up smoothly up with my left leg causing a big increase in the coil in my back muscles and hips on the downswing with passive arms and whoa do my wedges, irons, and hybrids fly long and straight. I can also use this for better distance control. What I need is to do now is move more consistently (flatter?) with my driver. Big thank you for your professionalism.
I committed to swinging better this year and after watching some other channels wasn't believing. Been watching, drilling, and practicing the dynamic lateral movement you guys hammer on in almost every video in the garage nightly for 2 weeks. Moving slow really is the best way to learn. Hit a small bucket with mostly 7 irons last night and Wow! My 7 iron has never sounded so crisp. I'm confident with more practice the timing will come with the other clubs and get even better. Sharing your channel with anyone that'll listen. Thanks!
Mike and Shaun, is the backswing shift left (i.e.--re-centering) a conscious movement? Does it happen mostly naturally from the right hip turning in the backswing towards the hip centerline?
Love it! My Dad has serious weight shift issues. Gotta get him one of these boards, and show him this video. "Left side down to start. Click, swing. Click, swing." So simple it has to work, lol. Thanks, guys!
Great Video that really spells it out with great detail. These are key moves to have a dynamic swing that puts you in the right position to hit the ball. Very Cool ….Thank you for posting this information.
This was crazy helpful. Something that in reality had nothing to do with actually swinging the club made such a huge impact in how solidly I started striking my irons. Small little shift to the left foot towards the top of my backswing has been transformative. And you guys could not have explained it any better. Thanks.
Do you re center with the driver later in the swing later? By watching this video it seem that the pro shifted mostly to the left with the club above him.
Excellent training aid, demo plus your shared commentary and explanation of the details, Shaun and Mike...you fellas have the best instruction & swing knowledge available !
Thanks very much guys. This has been really bothering me about my swing and I hadn't properly understood it until now! You explained this clearly and demonstrated it repeatedly and slowly so I could really comprehend it. I'll definitely be checking out more of your videos.
After the pressure shift in the hips start turning does the left hip pretty much pull the arms down and around through impact instead of so in the arms independently?
I used to have a massive slow motion sway but saved it with a massive slow motion re-centering! But there was so much wasted time and effort i was short but straight. But now I have discovered the Power of the Pelvis to load ,fire, sequence and stabilize the golf swing im still straight but far more solid and a lot further.
(1) Shift right (2) Turn clockwise (3) Shift left (4) Turn counter clockwise = Mind Blown after playing for 20+ years. Im pretty close to doing this but sometimes, not so much :-) Thanks guys!!! remarkable micro tip!!!
I do not understand how you guys aren’t the most followed golf channel on RUclips. Not only do you make more sense than anybody else, I want to have a beer with you! 😂
I think of it as the hips shifting laterally a very small amount before they turn. Is this because you want to turn around the right leg? Also, I think it helps the hips to initially resist turning?
Great to see shoulder sway discussed here. Can you guys describe the difference in shoulder sway between irons, fairway woods, and driver? I hit my irons well with a 10 meter draw, however the same swing with my driver sees me hit a 25 meter hook (or more) into the trees. Should my shoulder sway in the downswing with my driver stay more to the right? Thanks for the great videos.
Greetings from Sydney Australia, loving your tutorials, really make sense to me. In that shift turn, shift turn, at what point do then wrists turn? I get stuck with the wrists remaining open during the shift turn going forward. Thanks gents.👍🙏
Is initial shift off ball done with every club on all full swings ? Do you do it with a pitching wedge? I have the problem of my hips moving towards target at start of swing missing the shift away from target all together
Thoughts on the following: *dynamic shift counteracts the sway. While the movement forward doesn’t show up until late in the backswing, the recruitment of the muscles happens much earlier, it just takes time to turn the ship around and counteract the backward motion. *Getting back to the front foot pushes the arc of the swing forward allowing you to catch the ball on a more in to out path rather than cutting across the ball. *Likewise with the swing arc forward, the bottom of the swing will be more forward allowing for better contact.
Awesome video. Gravity Golf describes this as 2:1 timing. Throwing a ball, operating a bull whip ect. You always move backwards first then forward before the finish of the backswing. Your other video proves this out using gears. IMPRESSIVE!!
Wow do I need this?? I've never seen the board. I have always had this feeling that my swing has been out of time and now I know it has. Thanks guys I'm practicing this.
Awesome video. Helps my full swings so much. The thing I struggle with/have a question on is how to properly incorporate this on pitching/off speed shots? Basically, it would be awesome if you could do the Monte collab video info with a bit more detail on weight shift
I have discovered the Power of the Pelvis to load ,fire, sequence and stabilize the golf swing im still straight but far more solid and a lot further. I still use it for the short game, obviously a micro version, but with a 3hcp at 60yo it needs to be good!
happy to see that.. just need a clarification, Weight Shift to left is naturally happen (when turning left shoulder up and around) or need to create for (to shift to left leg) to make this movement?
Great video on shifting forward as you complete the backswing with the use of the balance board. Could you further elaborate on the pressure of the heel and toe of each foot throughout the process. Thank you
Focusing on 11:38 of video when Shaun is balancing on the board then shifting his weight down left-right-left-right-left-right. What body part(s) are generating this subtle shift in weight? Does the left knee bend slightly more while the right knee straightens slightly then the right knee bends slightly more while the left knee straightens slightly, and so on? Thanks!
Really great! I’m a 9-13 handicap but have drifted out to 12 because I have developed an inability to hit my longer irons straight. A lot of work trying to stop flipping and get my ‘sway’ right and the foot pressure idea with a more natural movement like you pose in this video makes a lot of sense. I’ll hit the range before today’s round and try to get back to making it more natural. Now if I can figure out a way to not take deep divots when I shift forward, I’m on my way back.
This is good stuff. From the time I first swing the club as a child I was taught, incorrectly apparently, that you shift weight right on the backswing, complete the swing then shift weight left on the downswing. Every sport like baseball and tennis involve stepping forward as your still going back. It is a very dynamic and athletic move. Golf, like you guys mention, is no different. Thanks for clarifying what really happens in the swing.
I think a cool video would be seeing if there’s any difference to when a golfer shallows the club. Some guys shallow the club super early and some do so right before impact, would be interesting to see if there’s a right time to shallow.
Gentlemen, I have been watching your recenter/pressure videos the last few days and find them fascinating and eye opening. Today, I went out to the garage to hit a few while working on the step drills I have seen you guys do. After doing a bunch of step drills, I took some regular swings at half speed or so. I noticed that I was recentering too much at times and also my left side/ rear end was moving too much towards the target. I tinkered with it and things did improve. I totally get it when you say that golfers need to learn to do the pressure shift without huge shifts of mass. A question I have is if you recenter properly your about 50/50 weight distribution at the top, correct? Does this mean that I need to shift even more in the downswing or is that done once you recenter? Anyways, love the content even though some of it blows some thoughts I used to have on the golf swing out of the water. LOL.
Interesting to see the chest "pulling" back though impact; transferring forces from the torso to the arms and then counter-acting the clubhead post-impact all in that small loop in the middle. Good stuff!! Would love to see a video on this vs. when the hands release. Especially with a driver.
Does is matter? When you press down on each side of the board, where is the weight in each foot? With the rear, is the weight in the heel or ball of foot when its pressed down ??? As you recenter where is does the weight go on the front foot, ball, heel??
Guys, you have your names mixed up in the introduction! Mike’s name is under Shaun and vice versa. Other than that, another flawless video! Been waiting for a long form video after all the recent shorts, and this does not disappoint. Your teaching on recentering is a game-changer for me, and I always enjoy videos on that topic. Thanks for all you do and thanks for posting.
haha thanks for catching that. We stood on opposite sides in the intro and didn't even notice it 🤦♂️. Glad the videos are helping! Thanks for watching.
@@AthleticMotionGolf Your channel is the best on golf instruction, hands down. You guys often request topics for videos, and I have a suggestion. In a recent video working with a student, you mentioned the release as similar to shooting a bee bee down the barrel of the club. Could you have an in-depth discussion of this topic? I see so many golfers on the range practicing trying to hold angles through the hitting area, rather than trying to facilitate a full release of the club head. A video on this topic could be very helpful. Thanks again for all you do.
Hi fellas, great video! I tried this at the range and contact with driver and 5 wood was awesome! But pitching wedge not as good. Do we shift the same amount irrespective of club? I thought it might have been too much with wedge but just guessing. Cheers.
I made a board like this and have been training on it but I am still confused about how to return my hips back to the sit up position without a push from my right foot/leg to get the shift going. It's easy to do it on the board, but flat ground I can't shift without a upper body tilt and that doesn't seem right. I'm trying to watch all your videos on shifting but I'm still feel confused and trapped with longer clubs. Is it wrong to wait for the shift to happen at the top of your swing?
@@AthleticMotionGolf I tied it together with the 'magic move' video of yours and I have never felt that before in the swing! I finally hit a tiny fade I haven't done that in years....thanks so much
Weight is static. Weight CANNOT be transferred, only LOAD can. The ONLY way to 'move' or remove weight is to detach it. I suggest you read Physics for Dummies- Wylie Publishing.@@AthleticMotionGolf
You mentioned a “ figure 8” of sorts with your hips during the swing….I first heard this from Rob Akin many years ago. Think he was from same area as David Toms.
Great video! I have one of the boards and they are good for getting that feeling. Do you have any drill that you could share for someone who slides just a touch past neutral alignment on the lead leg on the downswing? I use the board but when I translate to normal swing I still slide a bit past…
Hi Gentlemen this is a fantastic videos for all of us golfers to fully understand what is going on inside our body as we are swinging our club back and forth Absolutely the shift( lateral motion) then turning towards center as professional golfers are doing in their backswing swing does occur easily and naturally and is extremely effective in producing the powerful torque energy all golfers; both amateurs and professionals: must have to execute a perfect downswing. Believe it or not our hip must turn totally naturally because of what the socket in our trail hip side does in affecting the twisting motion of our trail thigh muscles. Few golfers are aware of this and many fight this unknowingly. As the golfer swings their club back with their upper arms held close to their side; the muscles in their upper torso are twisting in one direction as their trail hip socket is twisting their trail thigh muscles in the opposite direction. This results in a natural shifting of the golfer weight as long as they allow it to happen and do not un flex their trail knee at the top of their swing The two countermoves of the golfer contracting muscles between their upper and lower is specifically what creates the torque inside their body to effectively do their ‘downswing’ to start with their trail knee bending forward to the conclusion of their swing. The only thing I disagree with is the deliberate shifting of the weight with the clicking down of the lead foot because in reality the relaxing then turn of the trail thigh muscles shifts the weight not the player deliberately shifting his weight on his lead foot. Get on your shifting board and you will see this for yourself. At the start of a golf backswing If a golfer were to focus on manipulating their by hips; swaying their body off center or shifting the weight on their back foot even a little too much as they are doing their backswing; they not only are loosing their balance; but lost the potential energy they needed to store up in their backswing as well. Cheers
Great video! Question- when guys like JT have their lead foot in the air when they hit the ball, would the board still be tilted toward the target even though the foot is off the ground?
It's off the ground after he's transitioned weight forwards and pushed up with left leg utilising ground force. So, yes, the board is still down on lead side.
i agree that the right knee moves to the right in the takeaway and that the swing recenters itself; but movement off the ball- lateral movement- is a different thing. hogan moved off the ball in his early days but was able to double back on the ball, in the second half of his backswing, getting his weight onto his left side. this, though, twists the spine to the left. and, that is not recentering. when a player recenters their spine isn't twisted to left at the top. when hogan hit his peak he didn't double back on the ball and he was in a level left position at the top. and, a player can't recenter if they don't create the right angle between their left arm and the club in the backswing. players who move off the ball tend to do this to compensate for the fact that they don't form the right angle. xander doesn't form the right angle but compensates by pressing down with the left side of his head. most amateurs, though, who had same the club left arm relationship, as xander, would most likely be pulled over to the right and reach the point of no return, and would not be able to double back on the ball in the second half of the backswing.
Maybe I am thinking about this all wrong, but it feels to me (I know feel isn’t real) as if when I allow my lead leg to flex and my trail leg to straighten slightly as I reach the top of my backswing, the pressure seems to move towards my lead foot naturally. Am I mistaken?
🙋♂️ What I’m excited about is that I can hit it on average 300 yards, without the balance shift, I’m tight, and I don’t fully turn. 🙃 Can I improve on a 7 yr old Cobra speed LD S driver? I am a former baseball player/pitcher. Where are you guys, I need to take a vacation and stop down?
I bought the board and disappointed that it comes with absolutely no instructions. There is a link to a website but it looks like you have to pay additional for instruction. It was already very expensive.
Great one guys. Question - on the balance board when I shift to my lead foot prior to the top of the backswing, my balance board turns clockwise a bit. (I’m right handed.) Is this normal?
yes it is normal but could be a sign of something. A faster hip rotation does not mean more power. They should do a video on this topic very interesting.

Hey guys do you use the pressure in your right foot to recenter or do you use your left knee at that time to recenter tks
Thanks!
For the most part, yes. It’s the weighting/unweighting of the feet 👍
Where do I get the balance board. My timing and balance are both wrong. No power or height in golf shots.
Early! Steep to shallow is not what we see the best players doing👍
Great Vid !
Would you say bigger shift with driver and gets small as the length of club shorter smallest shift with wedges. Thx
Absolutely correct 👍
LOL.
Thanks a lot! And when the board gradually turns clockwise,,is it ok?
That view from below is terrific!!
Thanks!
So at 5:26 his toes on his lead foot actually come off the ground. Is this unique only to him or have you guys seen this before? Thanks.
Great video, as usual. While practicing this motion, would it make sense to actually throw a ball to the ground? Thank you.
Is it possible to get one of the boards or how to make one?
Interesting to see the chest "pulling" back though impact; transferring forces from the torso to the arms and then counter-acting the clubhead post-impact all in that small loop in the middle. Good stuff!! Would love to see a video on this vs. when the hands release. Especially with a driver.
Great video thanks
Does is matter? When you press down on each side of the board, where is the weight in each foot? With the rear, is the weight in the heel or ball of foot when its pressed down ??? As you recenter where is does the weight go on the front foot, ball, heel??
Yes it does matter. Stay out of the back heel, think ball or arch of the foot instead.
This is great, but could you please demo a completely swing applying this drill so that I could see how it worked? Thanks!
Cheers.
Is there a link for that weight shift board?
I made a board like this and have been training on it but I am still confused about how to return my hips back to the sit up position without a push from my right foot/leg to get the shift going. It's easy to do it on the board, but flat ground I can't shift without a upper body tilt and that doesn't seem right. I'm trying to watch all your videos on shifting but I'm still feel confused and trapped with longer clubs. Is it wrong to wait for the shift to happen at the top of your swing?
Fantastic thanks
Hey guys - where can I buy the camo athletic motion cap you're wearing in this video?
Amazing camera quality guys. Great video! Gonna try to hit a bucket and work on this =)
Awesome, let us know how it goes 👊
Perfectly done! Highly useful!
Thanks!
This!!! This is my weekend practice, looks like one of the best training feels!
Let us know how it goes!!!
@@AthleticMotionGolf I tied it together with the 'magic move' video of yours and I have never felt that before in the swing! I finally hit a tiny fade I haven't done that in years....thanks so much
spot on modern swing , thanks!
Thanks!!!
One can shift 'load' but not weight. Maneuver or shift the center of pressure as well.
Weight definitely moves too 👍
Weight is static. Weight CANNOT be transferred, only LOAD can. The ONLY way to 'move' or remove weight is to detach it. I suggest you read Physics for Dummies- Wylie Publishing.@@AthleticMotionGolf
Where can we get that board from ????
You mentioned a “ figure 8” of sorts with your hips during the swing….I first heard this from Rob Akin many years ago. Think he was from same area as David Toms.
Great video! I have one of the boards and they are good for getting that feeling. Do you have any drill that you could share for someone who slides just a touch past neutral alignment on the lead leg on the downswing? I use the board but when I translate to normal swing I still slide a bit past…
?
Hi Gentlemen this is a fantastic videos for all of us golfers to fully understand what is going on inside our body as we are swinging our club back and forth
Absolutely the shift( lateral motion) then turning towards center as professional golfers are doing in their backswing swing does occur easily and naturally and is extremely effective in producing the powerful torque energy all golfers; both amateurs and professionals: must have to execute a perfect downswing.
Cheers
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thanks!
Whats the app called hes using?
Is Weight shift board sold or did you make it
Do the best players make this same shift on pitches or chips when there's more weight on the lead foot at address?
Not towards the back foot, but they do going forward 👍
Bring on that short game series guys !! 💪
@@robkedgley8350 The footage is in editing now 👊🙂
@@AthleticMotionGolf Cannot wait !! ❤️👏
How do i buy the cap 🧢? I’m from the Philippines 🇵🇭

i agree that the right knee moves to the right in the takeaway and that the swing recenters itself; but movement off the ball- lateral movement- is a different thing. hogan moved off the ball in his early days but was able to double back on the ball, in the second half of his backswing, getting his weight onto his left side. this, though, twists the spine to the left. and, that is not recentering. when a player recenters their spine isn't twisted to left at the top. when hogan hit his peak he didn't double back on the ball and he was in a level left position at the top. and, a player can't recenter if they don't create the right angle between their left arm and the club in the backswing. players who move off the ball tend to do this to compensate for the fact that they don't form the right angle. xander doesn't form the right angle but compensates by pressing down with the left side of his head. most amateurs, though, who had same the club left arm relationship, as xander, would most likely be pulled over to the right and reach the point of no return, and would not be able to double back on the ball in the second half of the backswing.
Can I improve on a 7 yr old Cobra speed LD S driver?

@brant collier here is the info on the Board
I bought the board and disappointed that it comes with absolutely no instructions. There is a link to a website but it looks like you have to pay additional for instruction. It was already very expensive.
Great one guys. Question - on the balance board when I shift to my lead foot prior to the top of the backswing, my balance board turns clockwise a bit. (I’m right handed.) Is this normal?
yes it is normal but could be a sign of something. A faster hip rotation does not mean more power. They should do a video on this topic very interesting.
Hello, my name is Al. I would like to know more about lessons and cost. Thanks
When you move pressure from right to left foot where is the feel.. your heel or toes?
Toes then heel
