  • Learning how to transfer your weight in the golf swing with both irons and driver is key to playing great golf, and not many golfers know how it should differ between these clubs.
    Transferring your weight correctly leads to a powerful, efficient and consistent swing so getting this right is important for every golfer.
    Weight shift is often hard to see in the golf swing so i offer some simple yet effective drills to help you 'feel' the correct moves and add them into your golf swing.

    Excellent video Chris on weight transfer. After viewing your demonstration to lift the left foot to get the weight back to the right foot for the irons, I found that the lifting of the left heal probably accomplishes the same thing. I am wanting to get the "ground force" element more into my golf swing and by getting the weight back and then pushing off the right foot onto the lead side, this should help. I'll definitely keep working on it. Keep up the good work Chris!

    I really struggle with my weight shift, so thanks for this input. Part of my problem as a high handicapper, is that so much of my focus during a swing is on my arms, that my lower body is on its own. Having the transitions back and forth so early were an eye opener. Not the first time you’ve taught me a facet of golf that was a complete light bulb moment. Let’s see if this will be one!

His ability to convey key concepts and techniques in an understandable and usable manner are what make him a top instructor. He is in a league of his own. I have personally benefited from his swing insights and am forever grateful.

    This is fantastic! My instructor has told me several times he thought my driver swing was beautiful even though I felt like I settled back on the trail foot. He said there is a difference between staying on the back foot and settling on the back foot, which you just pointed out and makes me feel so much better. He even mentioned that Nicklaus would settle in the back foot in his driver and it was perfectly fine to do so.

    I’m a wider thicker guy not fat just wide shoulders and chest getting a lot of rotation is hard for me even tho I can hit the ball pretty far. I’ve been starting to lift my lead heel in the back swing and then slam it down before I get to the top seems to help me get more rotation and consistently make sure I get my weight shift to the front foot as I sometimes have a bad habit of leaving the weight on my back foot. What do you think about this?

  • @TriviaJockey

    Chris, I was trying the "120 kg of pressure" move (at about the 6:00 mark) b/c I have a weight transfer problem where I move my mass over my lead foot (which moves my upper body and head toward the target). However, when I try to press that "120 kg" of pressure into the ground with lead foot, it launches me upwards...the club flies over the ball or hits thin. How do you get that full pressure into the ground with lead foot without the equal and opposite reaction of pushing your body straight up with that lead leg?

    • @RoiMcIlroy
      @RoiMcIlroy Год назад

      Are you pushing your lead foot towards to ground in such direction (to target) that it you kinda pushes your body weight back onto your trail side? If so, you should push the pressure more towards toes of your lead foot. That diagonal force towards ground and your toes should push your lead hip back (opposite direction) and thus keep your weight more on your lead side. (Newtons 3rd law)
      If this isn't the reason, you may also do that vertical push off the ground too early (doubt it). It should be done approximately when the club shaft is parallel to ground on downswing, accoding to Mike Adams and Swing Catalyst.

    The one thing I disagree with "most great players have the weight /pressure shift to the lead foot early in the downswing" I would very much argue that they have it shift in the backswing. The best ball strikers ever. Hogan, Moe, Trevino, Nelson.. All have a shift before they begin the downswing.

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  2 года назад

      I totally agree they all shift to the trail foot in the backswing, we know this is the case as it has been measured. I was simply referring to the forward move in that they shift to their lead side early where many shift late 👍

    I beg to differ with your video on one area. The core , hips needs to be engine of moving the club back and not the upper body. The upper body rotating was a relatively modern school of thought that took away needed focus on the hips and esoecially lag hip’s role in moving pressure properly in a golf swing.
