- In this video I will be demonstrating and explaining 3 great drills that you can do to give you a sense and feel for how to properly shift the majority of your weight into your lead side. This is one of the most crucial skills in golf that can be directly correlated to a players skill level and how well they can strike the ball.

Agree with the comments below. I have also been told I'm an arm swinger and at age 53, the pains start to prove it. I found this video this winter and could hardly wait to start trying it. A few weeks ago I started hitting foam balls in my garage, trying the 3 drills. Amazing difference immediately and easy to get feedback. Played 9 holes today, first time since October, and shot a 42, which is great for the first round of the year, even getting an eagle on one par 5! Thanks for the drills, can't wait for the rest of the season now!
Great stuff man 👍
You are the best golf instructor on youtube
I think you hit it right on the spot that all golfers should be practicing. Love the instruction.
Really enjoy your Concepts, drills and the way you explain these. So much sense and easy to see and repeat. Thank you Jonathan.
Excellent video & drills 👍👍👍 quality
Top drill, well explained
Thanks for this video Jonathan. I really needed this. I'll be trying these drills out ASAP.
Thank you ❤
That's a great video - thank you! One question --- I really like the first part of the video where you just start with all the pressure on your front foot. I'll try that at the range tomorrow and assuming it works well, why not just always hit like that? Meaning --- ignore the next two drills as the weight is already on the left foot at address. thanks!
This is easily one of the most valuable golf videos I've ever seen. Presented clearly, there's no hemming and hawing and everything is well concisely explained. You're only a young man but you have a great future in golf instruction. Well done!
This is a great video and I unfortunately have issues getting to my left side. I’m flexible enough to make a nice shoulder turn but I’m much more tight/restricted on the follow through.
I have the same issue, my solution is to fan my lead foot open 45', it also makes the finish position that much less painful on the lead knee.
Excellent
Do you advise keeping feet very parallel? Not splayed (front especially) yours seem that way ? Liking your content very good 👍
Great drills Jonathan. Thanks for sharing. Will these work with Driver? I seemed to struggle more with weight shift using the big stick
Want to know the same, also struggle with the driver..
👍💯
Jonathan, you're truly an amazing coach!!! So concise, focused and devoted!!!!
Jonathan, you have improved my ball striking better than any other instructor on RUclips. I went to the driving range after watching this video several times and hit a large bucket of balls without hitting any fat shots. Incredible. What you said about shifting all the weight of my body onto the leading leg did it for me. I often hit fat shots because I was releasing the club early and not shifting properly.
What I like about you is that you don't chit chat. You get to the point and show how it's done. Keep it up, you're doing a great job.
Thank you I’m glad I have helped!
I agree with this comment 100%. I was doing the same exact thing. I thought I was doing something wrong with my backswing or I thought I was off plane or I thought my chest wasn’t down; but that wasn’t the case. I issue I was having was with my shift forward- I wasn’t doing that. Thank you! If you’re ever in Michigan, please let me know, and I’ll love to hire you as my instructor for a half hour. Keep it up.
Great content!
Thank you Jonathan.
Keep on as it is: clear, simple and helpful.
Regards
This guy hands down is the best. So much respect for you!
man you're a good teacher. love how concise and direct you are
You can actually watch one of the World's #1 Scottie Scheffler do that trail leg step forward with the swing. I bet most golfers doing get 100% weight transfer all the time.
Super excited to try these drills. I REALLY struggle with weight shift, and never take a divot after the ball. Its like i know what i need to do but my body resists on the down swing. My weight is always on my trailing toe as i finish the swing.
Isn't there kind of a squat before one shifts weight forward?
This kid is good. Really good! Thanks for the great tips Jonathon, to help us all improve our golf (for free). Keep up the great work!
Right foot finish on toe and your in the dough!
- Gary Player
Just what I need! Been working on my weight shift. Great organized and succinct delivery!
C’est mon plus gros problème depuis des années 😭😭😭
Thank you for sharing good information. When you shift weight to the lead side, what part of left foot you put pressure on? Outside? Toe? Heel? Or some combination of these?
When should we start to shift the weight? Some people say end of back swing, some people say start of downswing
Thanks Jonathan, I will incorporate these three drills into my daily practice routine.
Baik terimakasih eddy susanto indonesia ikut menyimak thank you
I like your instruction but I believe it would be easier if you push the left leg back which turns your hip and allows better weight shift.
Great drills. I struggle with getting all the way to my left side. I don’t even hit driver anymore.
because of hip tightness and inflexibility every time i try to get that weight forward i go into early extension--i ll give u one guess what happens after that
Can you do a video on drills for a more neutral club path? My wedges start pretty neutral but my long irons and woods are in to our big time (+6 to +10).
this would help me too! I feel like its takeaway
i will watch this video many time go prcatice come back and look again until i get it right . thx.
Very good Johnathon. Something I’ve been working on. It’s harder to do than most think.
Should I practice the same method with a driver?
thank you for this!!! need to see you in a shirt one size bigger though
Is this for the driver àlso? Thanks
Walk thru the drills in slow motion.
So many gems in this video; its the content of 5 videos in one. All my mistakes highlighted, I find it very hard to wait for the weight shift before starting my downswing but I will try these drills and see what changes…✅
Jonathan - is the weight on the lead foot distributed evenly throughout the foot? Thank you.
More in the middle or on the balls of the feet
How about for drivers?
Great great advice
Thnks Jono BRILLIANT video 2nd an 3rd has helped me HEAPS....finally got it mateee cheers from Nelson Bay NSW
Love this!
Great drills.
Great Video. !
You are the best
Great drills
Geat drills
Hey it’s me
Excellent 👍
Gary Player, actually used the "Step Forward" Move, in his regular Swing, Thanks!
Gold..
This is brilliant Jonathan I really struggle with this, this is the first video I've found which explains it brilliantly thankyou so much 👍
This a good VDO
May i confirm my understanding.
lead foot 60% can use for driver ?
Thanks. This video really helped me with a golf problem that has haunted my game forever. I FINALLY get that weight forward. Seriously, I like how you just keep it simple, authentic, easy to use drills. I have benefited greatly on the links.
Another GREAT video, Jonathan 👍🏻
One question tho…
I feel like I frequently hit my irons toward the toe of the clubface. I suspect I am pressing my weight into my left HEEL 🤔
Should I shift my weight more toward the left TOE? (to promote an inside out path?)
I do have some lateral foot pain, so perhaps I’m shying away from shifting my weight to the outside of the left foot 🤷🏼♂️
One of the best golf instructors on RUclips!
p.s. the “Step Forward” after impact drill is a Gary Player move ☝🏻
Great video!
Well done ! Great drills !
Simple and effective....😊👍🥂💯🇨🇦
Fantastic sequencing. New look videos great too.
I think a important aspect is grip pressure, arms relaxed . It's never covered enough I think
Great work 👍
tq very much JKM. very helpful to me who are struggling in weight shifting
Hey Johnathan would love to see you play on the course , can you do a course management lesson? do you compete in televised competitions?
When I do the drill I hit great shots but I’m not sure whether if the drills are working for my problems.
Really great drills, I play monthly tournaments with lots of HIGH handicap golfers. All 3 of those drills reminded me of different buddies who could use the drill to help them consistently strike the ball. Great, simple, informative video. Cheers!
Love ur concepts , that’s my problem I don’t know how to shift forward , but now I’m going to practice this new drills, ty again👍🏼👍🏼
So that's where i'm going wrong. Thanks, this should do the trick.
Very watchable and easy to understand instruction. Many thanks.
I am really struggling with my weight shift. I am off my back foot constantly. It is very frustrating. Thanks for the tips!
Whenever I try to keep more weight on the front foot throughout the swing I tend to hit some hosel rockets! Would love to know why, it’s very frustrating…
Great drill thank you! I sometimes feel as I’m not shifting enough weight to my trail side (my weight stays central during the upswing and shifts to the lead side during the downswing)
Great commentary love your videos! Huge help thank you
After doing the first drill and hitting the ball well I am tempted to do that for my regular swing. Why should I not do this?
I've been struggling with weight shift and striking the ball first then the ground for a long time. These drills have helped a lot. Jonathan does a real excellent job of describing how to overcome these errors. It takes practice but it has made a big difference in my ball striking and consistency putting these drills into practice on the golf course.
Just subscribed to your channel, clear instruction I will endeavour to apply.Would be nice to start the new season with a new swing. It’s never too late to learn 😊
thank you!!!! exactly my problems and the drills i need!!!!
Thanks. Your instruction is concise and simple to duplicate!!
One thing with the weight transfer forward, I realised I had to make it a lot earlier in backswing
So helpful to give the pitfalls and how to avoid doing the wrong version of the drill. Many have shown these drills, but none show how doing them the wrong way can lead one astray. Cheers.
Thanks Jonathan. The question I have (and maybe it's answered in a follow-up video) is: what is the best way to bring the "feels" from these drills into the actual transition and downswing?
Tired these 3 drills today at the range. Was most successful with drill #1. Thank you! 😀
This may be the best video explaining the weight shift that I have ever seen and I have watched many hundreds of videos! Great job!
Looks great excersizes, will try it out this upcoming week!!
Wow. This is simple but great. Thanks.
Kept my weight on my left side today and played a miraculous round. Wow.
Can’t wait to try the third drill.
I feel like I shift pressure back in the backswing and also feel the majority of my pressure on my lead foot just before the start of the downswing, but I still find too much weight on my trail foot at the end of the swing.
Thanks for sharing
Great tutorial!
I’m a new subscriber now
Good video on an important fundamental of the golf swing. 😊
Great stuff Jonothan . I have always struggled with transfer of weight but I am finally starting to see some improvement with my irons
Wow... Three amazing drills in one video! Thank you!
Hi Jonathon great step drills , simple and easy to understand. Thanks for the continuing videos.
Brilliant instruction very clear and concise very easy to follow great content 10/10
Very informative and would be great help
Thanks, Jonathan very helpful
Looks great. I will try these.
Thanks
Always love watching your lessons Johnathan but this one was one of my favourites, I definitely need these drills since I have always struggle with weight shift😜
Excellent succint lesson. Thank you
