    This in my opinion is one of THEE most important lessons ever to grace the YT video arena. Major props, AMG. I would also suggest putting a long dowel stick (sharpen to a dull point in order to stick it into the ground) at least 4 ft. long and film yourself practicing this rhythmic move as you would in a VERY slow, Thai Chi-esque fashion. This can be done just about anywhere. You can even use a mic stand or tripod or something similar inside your home, using an unscrewed broomstick if you're pressed for height space. When the move does not feel one bit alien anymore (which may take a couple of weeks or so), THEN go to a range and hit lob or sand wedges, gradually getting comfortable with each longer club. Keep up the good work, guys!

    Your videos have no question improved the consistency of my game. Confidence with all my clubs and in my ability to make the shot I see in my mind has not been this good in years. I’m taking $5 to $15 off everybody I’ve been playing. I feel like a player/golfer again instead of someone who plays golf. IMO you guys are hands down the best channel for golf instruction and information. Thank You 👍

    Constantly searching for the trick or the one piece I’m missing... this was an absolute game changer which coincided with the igtv hip video recently released. After a few slow motion drills and concentrating only on getting this right and not the other million things I had the best contact and ball flight. Thank you guys so much for the amazing videos and content!!!

    Is the re-centering move the same for a iron swing and the driver swing?

  • @ianjones6910
    @ianjones6910 4 года назад +5

    I've been watching your videos for a while - I found y'all through Monte Scheinblum. I've been trying to come up with a mental "feel" for this re-centering, and it's been tough. I know this is correct, but it's tough to put into play when you've been shifting everything to the right for so long. I think I've come up with something, finally. I have a forward press, where I kick my right knee in a bit to the left, a little weight goes to my left heel, then I "rebound" back to the right. In the past, I would continue moving right, and end up stuck there - I wouldn't get to my left fully until well after impact, and of course I would run out of room for my arms. Very flat-footed, to paint a picture. Well, this weekend I came up with the mental "cue" to simply start moving back to my left foot as soon as I feel the pressure in my right heel; by the time I actually start moving left, I'm probably somewhere between left arm parallel and 3/4ths of the way to the top. I really feel a 'snap', a downcocking of my wrists, and I end up moving through the ball at a good clip. It worked, at least today....shallow divots, penetrating ball flight, etc. I really played pretty well, and the only thing missing was a balky putter. Anyway, thanks again.

    Woah. A light bulb💡just went off. I have occasionally been doing this. I think as a bi-product of my subconscious punching through my suppression of it because I thought it was wrong.... It's so odd because I felt like I was falling backwards but at my indoor range session today I just let it happen and hit MONSTER draws that went 20-30 yards longer than average per club... My 7 iron went 207 yards. All I could think was "this can't look right, I must be making that dreaded reverse K and my head moved a little too"... But I noticed when I unwound and struck the ball my turn had so much more force behind it that came despite using less exertion. I'm still not doing it totally correct. It's happening when I pause for a second at the top of my backswing and let gravity pull me down but I'm pumped I can match it to something correct in the swing. I just need to learn how to initiate it sooner. Thank you guys SO much.

    Good stuff guys. Every time I get on the range and find that “magic move” I feel like I’m never going to lose it…then I’ll lose it for a week or so before finding it again. So frustrating! But that’s golf. On a separate note, I’d love to see you guys analyze some of the pros who have seemingly unorthodox swings, like a Matsuyama, or Inbee Park, who seem to have really have two distinct moves, getting all their weight to the back foot, very slowly, then unloading on the ball with their follow through.

    This is something I noticed Tiger Woods and Rory Mcilroy do, and Rory does it so majestically - honestly, watch Rory or Tiger in slow motion face on and you can see it if you're looking for it. I've actively been practicing this over the last six months or so in my range sessions and the results have so far been phenomenal - cleaner ball striking, straighter ball flights, more distance. But is this movement off the ball and 're-balancing' during the backswing something these pros know about and have actively practiced, or is it simply a by-product, a symptom if you like, of a good golf swing?

    Wanted to comment on this one. I live on a golf course that was just closed. I had respect for the course when it was open and never played on the course-- always paid. Since it was bought by developers and closed, I go out there and practice everyday after work. Mainly I practice short game and short irons. I went out and practiced after watching your video and slowed down my swing. I hit some chunks but I hit a lot of good balls. One thing I noticed is I was drawing the ball. I have never drew the ball. I've always hit with a fade or straight shot. Most of the shots today were drawing though. Can't say I was dissapointed. I'll definately keep this video in my swing thoughts as I practice, practice, practice...

    6.20min As a former hacker, the handle low and slow maybe something a good player feels But its After everything else has activated/moved out the way/created space/pushed into the ground etc which happens fast in a millisec.Hackers have no concept how fast everything but the arms move in the start of the swing.

    • @grahamjones7371
      @grahamjones7371 2 года назад

      The reason you have to activate left side early from ground up glute/ob/lat is that for me early transition is more left sided pull than right side push.i used to get back to my left side mainly with a right side heave! How does a hacker activate his left,well i spent 10 min in a swing room and noticed slightly strengthening my neutral left hand instantly added 3-5yds carry on my 7iron,then i realised i wasnt grabbing the ground with my left foot and had a lazy slight sway as my 1st move but i managed to usually save it from their but hadto create a lot of time to do it.i muat have knocked off 1/2sec from my swing!

  • @robsaxepga
    @robsaxepga 2 года назад

    Should it also be noted that the vertical force of the right leg and pelvis muscles, aka glutes, help the recentering? Shift then the turn is a function of vertical force rather than continuing to sway back to the top as Mike mentions? If we don't sway to the top then the only other force to get there would be vertical force lest we let the shoulders take over which wouldn't be optimum? I think where I started getting off was trying to be too centered. I equated lateral motion, which should be minimal at best but certainly there, with my mishits when it was the other way around. What happened was exactly what you say here...the club came back too far inside, my right arm was pasted to the right side of my chest and my left arm came away from my left side...all completely backward of what I should be doing. Keeping a stationary head was also an issue. Glad I'm getting back on track to the swing I had in the mid-90s.

    Is it ok to never really get your weight on the back foot? Lately I've been setting up with like 80% or even feeling like 100% of the weight is on my front foot and during the backswing I do a slight lateral shift to about 60% of the weight on the front foot then back to 80/100% in the down swing. But I never really get the weight onto the back foot. I've been hittin pretty bloody good lately so I'm doing something right lol.

    I’ve just watched this and very slowly practiced it. This movement appeared to give me more time and almost automatically dropped the club down on a better possibly slightly inside path. Is this what you would expect to ‘feel’? I won’t know until I start hitting balls
    Update...been to range today and used a bay with a face on mirror was able to se and feel the move very slowly as suggested. When I started hitting balls the contact was noticeably different is a very good way. Yes the shots stayed a right sometimes or a slight pull hook, but began to get the feel and the result. High towering 5 irons in particular have always eluded me.

    Last summer I sent you a video and your feedback was that I didn't turn my hips. I struggled all summer trying to turn my hips correctly and I just couldn't do it. I watched this video a couple weeks ago, and found that small lateral move back facilitated not only a hip turn, but also a good shoulder tilt, and a downswing levered by bringing my arm down independent of my shoulder. Not sure if I am doing it right, but my fat shots have virtually disappeared and I am compressing my irons. I am 68 years old and yesterday I carried a 6 iron 180 yards. Amazing for me. • @kev2669
    @kev2669 2 года назад

    Hey Guys, 53 years young and getting back into the game after a 3 year break. The core of what I'm seeing here is that the back swing is also part of the downswing in the sense that the lower half is getting into position prior to completing the backswing for the upper half to drive in to. I was taught that the downswing begins by squashing the bug under the ball of the left foot, and this seems only partially correct. You're saying that it is happening while the club is still going back, meaning they are happening at the same time, or closer to the same time, and not separate to each other. I'm a carpenter, farmer, and sportsman, so it seems I do it naturally with a hammer or an axe, but I am artificially holding off that movement until I complete the backswing and it truly feels off. My goal is to get back to the natural, ever so slight forward movement, and that will help set the foundation for a natural uncoiling. Have I understood this correctly? Handicap is in the range of 0-2 most of my adult life. Thanks guys

This chunking reaffirms some coaching I had years ago. broke a group of us down to grip it right, 45 minute group lesson, then slow seven iron1/4 swing for the next, 1/2 swing the week after 3/4 swing and so on. rather strangely i got better back then and have been chasing the feeling ever since. I'm off to the academy course in 1*C weather to start the transformation.

    So I love w this irons, but struggle w driver. I saw a video of myself yesterday coming off the ball and then when I recentered since it was w the driver, knowing I had to hit up on it, I started moving backwards and put my weight on my back foot. Because if I stayed with it, I thought I’d pop up the drive. Any advice here - aka how to stay behind the ball but also be ahead of address position?

    I'm surprised that moving to the inside of the right hip joint then falling into the left hip joint is not described by you guys this way, as described by Jimmy Ballard in his Connection video. You never mention that the swing pivots off the right groin. (Hip joint) then to the left. Just a suggestion from this long time student.
    Love your videos. Keep up the good work!

    Another great video guys. Sydney still in lockdown but ending next Monday when I can get back to my club. My question is that conventional golf wisdom requires the head to be behind the ball at impact. In your video, the forward movement of the head from left arm parallel in the backswing looks as if the head would be somewhat in front of the ball at impact. Could you please address this for me.

    Can you talk about not moving into a reverse pivot position when transitioning forward, late in the backswing?
    I love this concept but feel like I am struggling when my shoulder is still lowered as I transition. I feel like I'm just asking for an EE type finish.
    Thanks!

    AMG - I’m finding myself getting stuck on my left side after completing the movement and shift to my left knee. I start to drop my hands for downswing but have trouble turning. Do you know what I can do?

    This is no Joke! I’ve only been out 4 times this year and shot an 82 before seeing this video. Watched this and went to range once and next time out I shot a 74!!! I even had an 8 (+4) on the score card. I’ve never hit so many Greens in one round and it was all because of this video. My first move off the ball was always a little sway, and I tried to stop doing it. This video gave me permission to come off the ball but taught me what to do after the slight lateral move. I was hitting bomb drives with a draw and solid iron shots. Still need to hone it in a little more, but this single video has changed my golf life. Everyone needs to see this. Thanks so much. Once again, I’m not kidding! Went from 82 to a 74. 74 on a course I’ve never played before either!

    Thanks for giving me permission to shift forward while I am still rotating! I’ve experienced this sensation, but I would not have trusted the idea that I was shifting forward while rotating back. You guys, I trust.

    What do think about the stack and tilt method?

  • @cubfan69kmz85

    Just to make sure I got this, here is what I am taking from this video. There is a slight pressure shift back where we move about a ball width, max. At about club parallel, there is the recentering at which point we get back to fifty fifty or even slightly closer to the target at the top at which point there is the change of direction of the club where weight will continue shifting to the front foot and the weight shift should be complete by about left arm parallel in the downswing. Am I right with this thinking or am I missing something?

    I've watched this video a few times months apart now. I completely understand this magic move with my iron game, as it seems so much easier for hitting down on the ball. But is this magic move the same for busting a driver with swing speed. It seems that it would be difficult to swing up on the ball with this move. It's winter here in Indiana and I can't practice this move right now with my driver. What do you two at AMG say. Thank you and you've got an awesome golf channel that I subscribed to months ago 😁🏌️

    So, I did this drill about 50 times at the range, just as you guys said to do it. After getting fairly close to the movements, and many, many 1/2 shots, I then did some Slow full swings, for the most part, everything looked good. As one of my last 3 balls, I decided to try my driver at about 60 % speed, well, I musta done something right, cuz the ball flew about 230 yards, which is what my old normal swing got me. I'll continue to get this right, once I do, I'll try a full speed swing. Thanks again.

    The Chunking" you're talking about has actually given me some hope, I've been getting lightbulb moments due to watching some of your videos about how to stop casting, but when I go out on the driving range and put a ball down, I just can't do it! Again and again I do my usual huge cast at the start of the downswing, yet when I slow it down I can do it fine and put it on plane. It's so tempting to want to go at it full speed and gets so frustrating when it doesn't work. Youour advice on letting it all sink in and understand that it could take weeks or even months is now making much more sense, just got to keep patient and keep doing those drills! Is there anyway you can look at creating a video at some point where you emphasize some of the practice drills that you show and maybe have some kind of stages drill that golfers can go through and not move onto the next stage until they have mastered it?

    I like what you said in the last third. Drills don’t always work well for me because I will stay in that over exaggerated mode when I get back into the full movement. But going slowly, slowing down until I get it right and gradually speeding it up until I mess it up, then slowing it back down until it’s right and gradually speeding it back up, until it’s full speed. Repeat ad nauseam until it’s my new motion. That’s always been the most effective process for me. It’s usually longer and more difficult than a drill, but sticks with me exponentially better.

    I think a couple of things you have touched on. The Pros do have what one might strictly observe as a Reverse K shape at the top of the swing - Except that there is a squat and a hip depth that accompanies that position which is different than a Tilt Reverse K. For the last so many years Amateurs have been admonished to NOT Reverse K and that the swing is a completely rotary motion. I think what you guys are showing is what we were taught many, many years ago. There is a Turn backwards into the inside of the right foot followed by a lateral bump to the left and then a turn into the left side and thru the ball. Remember the shaft along the left hip drill? Away from the shaft initially in a rotary manner then a bump to the left and rotation inside that shaft w/o going way past the shaft. Remember Jack used to say the game was played from the inside of the feet. Perhaps an easier way for many to learn this is to feel like they have a short pause at the top during which a left lateral move is felt along with the sensation of a tiny squat and the arms starting to drop before the forward rotation of the upperbody begins. Come to think of it...... the dropping the beach ball with the legs is another good drill for the separation of the upper and lower body that you are describing.

    I've managed to cobble together a golf swing over the last few years that works very well for me at age 75. It is a lower body activated swing with the arms and hands playing a supporting role. Although I don't have any supporting videos to prove it, I think that my positions are very close to those in this video. (I do some mirror and laser work and have found ways to use dynamic drills). I have a 2 stage "magic" backswing move that ensures a maximum, on plane and centred hip turn that takes the upper body around for the ride. Stage 1 is a back and up pull of the trail side oblique, followed by stage 2, a move of my pelvis toward the inside of my trail knee. I use the bottom of my zipper as a focal point for the pelvis. The pelvis then moves a couple of inches laterally to trigger the downswing. This lateral move blends into a turn of the left seam of the target side leg to the left to ensure a maximized hip turn. I'd be very interested in any comments that you might have.

    great point on Queen Bee flaw..., in pitching, there are a few technique flaws that will create a chain reaction in the wrong direction. For example, poor ankle bone alignment on the rubber will affect lateral accuracy at home plate. Flaws in other parts will also force bad movements in other parts of the body to compensate for the initially flawed movement and lead to injury.

    I’ve been working on this all week at home as I’ve been swaying too much to the right and staying out there leaving my stuck behind the ball, hitting ground then ball and also scooping so no chance of a decent contact. Just been down the range and OMG, 15-20 yards on my shots. What a difference, making really good contact with the ball. Also my back usually hurts after a session like that but with this new move, my back feels great. Your video has transformed my ball striking. Thanks so much.

    A lot of good info, but you should have spent a lot more time on how to practice the move. You sort of show real quick how-to, but not nearly enough time on how to practice the moves... this is a consistent issue with several videos i have watched.
