He done went and jumped into Tools deep end right away.
Yeah you gotta start slow ease yourself in
Bruh you gotta crawl first..lol..love these reviews dude is gangster for sure
how is this song anywhere near Tools 'deep end', seriously most people can understand what this song is about, unlike many Tool songs, which even plenty of Tool fans don't truly understand.
@@TheWok1336 Deep end would probably be stuff like Third Eye and Rosetta Stoned I think
Lol I literally laughed out loud when I read this commenting, cause it’s too true. Only thing worse/better coulda been Rosetta Stoned
The "monkeys" reference refers to the perspective of Angels looking at us humans the same way we look at monkeys.
Ohhhh. I thought he was referring to evolution lol. Thank you for clarifying! That makes much more sense
Exactly right...
@@ricardomartinezxx We didn't evolve from monkeys. Both humans and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor around 8 million years ago. Humans are apes, however, great apes, along with the common chimps and otherwise. Fully opposable thumbs came from prior humanoids around 2 million years ago and early opposable thumbs in humanoids evolved around 4 million years ago. Hope this helps. :)
P.S. we are just talking space apes with delusions of grandeur and illusions of higher knowing and free will (but monkeys is close enough).

"We didn't evolve from monkeys."
- False.
" Both humans and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor around 8 million years ago."
- Yes, and that common ancestor was a monkey.
" Humans are apes, however, great apes, ..."
- Apes are monkeys, therefore humans are monkeys.
Cladistics, yo.
He's talking about humans retaining consciousness, yet still behaving like we're wild animals.
This
it's a reference to Psalm 82 and the subsequent punishment of angels for their disobedience...
I've heard it's actually an anti-war song, and that it's a reference to King Solomon.
@@dwaterson21 woah that's interesting I never knew my comment had replies I apologize

A true Tool fan. I agree. Hopefully he does more Tool. I'm waiting on Demolisher by Slaughter To Prevail.
We’re still waiting Shaq..
2 years, still waiting for full album.
The instrument that Danny Carey used was called a Tabla. It’s a membranophone percussion instrument much like a bongo! It’s a very precise instrument, The playing technique is complex and involves extensive use of the fingers and palms in various configurations to create a wide variety of different sounds and rhythms. This song is one of the reasons why Danny Carey is within the top 50 drummers on the planet.
Agreed good comment and cheers for knowing what a Tablas are
cody barnes Hell Yeah
50?
alpo6668 yes, he’s marked as the 26th greatest drummer of all time
This is one hell of a comment. +1
Yeah coach that beat is Danny Carey on drums. One of the sickest polyrhythm drummer out there
to add, It's Danny playing electronic drum pads and Tabla samples among other samples.
I honestly cant name a drummer in popular music who can even hold a candle in the face of Danny's awesomeness....
Neil Peart?
legion .....not sure what your definition of popular music is but Dave Lombardo would exceed his talent and then some. Imho
4holePatriot ......I didn’t say “because he can play fast” is because he is better. Dave is extremely technical. Check out the other bands he has been in. Including Fantomas, Mr Bungle, Grip Inc etc
“Is he talking about Monkeys as in us humans..” that’s exactly it Shaq. The angels are looking down us as we look down on apes. They’re calling us animalistic, Savage, heartless beings.
thats awesome he said us humans he nailed it
So, it’s like this... The song is about Angels watching humans make mistakes. To the angels, we’re nothing but talking monkeys.
The section of the song that had you trippin on monkey video game music was being played by the musicians. The drummer was playing hand drums called tablas, and the guitar and bass were playing the droning sounds behind.
TOOL’s music is very lush, and the lyrics are very deep(aside from a couple of songs where you can tell he’s goofing off.
Here are some of their songs that you’d like reacting to.
Aenima
Jambi
The Gudge
Ticks and Leeches
Jambi's my favorite, so I second that.
46×2? About California falling off the US. Arizona bay. Favorite song. And Danny Carey is a sick drummer!
Add Reflection to that list if you are into the tribal vibes.
Why no Wings for marie pt. 2???
@@crimsontrench9230 46 & 2 is not about California falling into the ocean. It's about the next step in human evolution and unity consciousness.

Pretty cool watching people becoming Tool fans :)
I don't think he's a Tool fan (at least currently). You can tell he enjoys parts of the song and the musicianship, but it doesn't feel like his cup of tea.
Wanna watch someone become a Tool fan? Check out Preston on KTF King. He went deep into the Tool catalogue!!
For fucking REAL!!! 💜🙏🏻 Welcome to the Family.
@@brighteyez4u397 yeah Preston is the tits. He gets it.
Isn't it though.
Tool was my safety blanket throughout high school. They were my Woody and Buzz Lightyear..
Some context: this album was dedicated and centered around the life and passing of the vocalist's mother. A staunch Christian that never gave up faith after fighting cancer for over 25 years. 10,000 days.
The monkey reference is a metaphor for humans not having evolved past war and conflict. Clubs are the technology that fool us into believing we've achieved a higher level of existence, but the FIRST thing we do is weaponize technology. We haven't evolved far enough to care for one another.
The vocalist is an agnostic
And in all honesty, the amount of metaphors in this record are staggering and spiritually deep.

I agree bro... tool was my highschool soundtrack
Tool is a pretty complex band musically, so you may have a tough time bobbing your head to the beat because they write music in unconventional time signatures. You learn to appreciate and lock in to the beat the more metal you listen to! Love your reactions my guy, keep them up!
I've been a metal head for years and while I respect and appreciate their skills they just ain't my thing tbh. It's just a matter of personal taste. I still listen to a few of their songs tho.
@@herlicskarafael2692 The Pot has some killer riffs. If you're into metal, tool will have something for you. Not everything, but something.
You really don't head bang to tool. Its a cerebral experience meant to be pondered and digested.
@@realbigtuna667 you can bang its just more of a bobbing convulsion
You're actually doing it just fine the way you are. It's not about head banging at the right time, nor is it about chilling out at the right time with TOOL. It's the type of music that you are meant to feel how ever it is that you feel. And after you have listened to the songs enough to know the lyrics, it then makes you think "Is this song one of the songs that they have that is very plain to see what it's about or is it one of their songs that will make me think deeper to find out what they're trying to tell me." And they have quite a few of them. This one was easy to see was of the former.
Anyway love the reaction as always.
The "how are they doing that" - It's their drummer. A legend.. The magic sound it has is also related to why you're having trouble bobbing your head. Polyrythms. Literally two instruments playing different time signatures at the same time. And a drummer that can do both at once. Glad you like :)
Listen to "Sober" that was TOOL's first big hit.
Its so true especially with us addicts.
I can't believe you did this one first ! Lol kinda jumping in to the deeper end . Coach this band is to a lot of us what Eminem and Nas are to hip hop . Skill, meaning , and depth . This for me is the greatest band of all time . I hope you do more of their stuff it isn't just music .and that instrument you were asking about ? Thats a GOAT ...aka Danny Carry ..the drum god playing his ass off
Bro I couldnt have said it better myself
lol IKR! I was shocked this was his first Tool React vid. I was thinking maybe simpler like "The Grudge," which is how I got introduced (and hooked) to Tool. I'd also suggest "Sober," "Aenema," and "Schism" before ventureing into the really deep stuff like "Lateralus" (man, the mathematical facts on that alone is crazy).
Let's be fair he could have started of with stinkfist or prison sex lol right in two is deep for sure but either of the first could have turned him away without understand TOOL first lol
Just go with the Lateralus album first, and anything Ryan Day has mentioned coach
Well said. I hope shaq reads this comment
Danny Carey actually didn't do that percussion shaq was asking about. Some other guy did it on some fucked up instrument (can't recall the name) but yes Danny is god

@Matt Wilhoit I'm 39 and have been to dozens of shows but I've never had the opportunity to see Tool. I can only imagine how epic it was and I was at Woodstock 94 and 99. My absolute favorite was Pink Floyd. I think Tool and Floyd not only have the most iconic albums, but also concerts. I'm jealous 🤘
Huge fan of the channel and I never knew you reacted to my favorite musicians ever. Favorite band, period. Nobody is this complex yet simple, beautiful yet dark, progressive while making it sound not progressive at all, and mysterious. They're bold. They have fun yet get serious when needed. And everything is left up for interpretation.
Man, this band has helped me grow as a person and I mean it. But you have to be willing to change and evolve. Then listen to the lyrics and try to find your own meaning in them.

When he’s referring to ‘Monkeys’ he’s talking about human evolution from being apes to where we are now and how we destroy each other.

@exposed love By going all caps with that reply had me thinking that you were doing exactly what the song said....dividing Right in Two. Bibi Casas I saw Tool in concert when I was 16. The drummer of Korn got meningitis so their drummer did a few Korn songs and it was flawless.
Saw them with disturbed and Korn in Charlotte about 20 years ago one of my favorite
Just saw them 3 months ago in May & they performed some music from their new album. The first time I was 17 back in 93.
Oh yeah. I’ve seen Tool in concert 3 times (Lateralus, Aenima, 10k Days), and they’re the only band I can think of where the recording just doesn’t do justice to the performance. Maynard’s voice is just supernatural.
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ABILITY, to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting TIME here..." - poetry.

"Japanese music or somethin'." Those sound like tabla, which are drums from India. But on this recording it sounds as if they're using a sample. They might be using triggers on an electronic drum pad/kit. From what I can tell, the time signature on most of this song is 11/8, which is also something you don't often hear in Western music. Tool are known for their unusual time signatures.
Need to check out All That Remains
Omg i been watchin your reactions for a few hours and I am STOKED you picked THIS Tool song
Their drummer is a percussionist. .. aka...a ststraight up beat master.
The confusion with the head banging is because tool uses multiple time signatures throughout their songs. Instead of just a 1,2,3,4 they will go 1,2,3,4-1,2,3,4,5-1,2,3,4
