@IanScott, Exactly. He's not talking about the ignorant people, he's not talking about the bad people, he's talking about people in general. The term ''Angels'' as used in this song can be taken very literally, these angels are not the good people, they are literally angels in heaven(the sideline), looking down on earth, who are wondering why God the Father created humankind, since they're all only slaughtering eachother for useless possessions like pieces of the ground. This is not a song about good people vs bad people, this is a song about the entire humankind, about our strange human equation, and about how fcked up we are as beings, sang from the perspective of the angels.

@@ianscottt3642 A learning process is not mentioned nor insinuated in this song tho. To me, this song always was a very dark yet extremely accurate picture of human beings. But maybe we can learn from that darkness. You could indeed choose to look at this song with a learning perspective. But the song itself is not optimistic at all, at least not to me. Yet I love it, since I share the view. There is no balance in good and evil in human beings. There is both good and evil, but evil(often disguised as egoïsm and personal gain) almost always has the upper hand in all of us. In me too. Cause evil often is the easy way, while good is almost always the hard way. And we human beings tend to choose the easy ways, tend to prefer quick pleasures over longterm satisfaction. There's a reason many people who've seen or experienced a lot, prefer animals. But that's just my view, and I honestly don't know if TOOL shares this view or if they made this more in your spirit/way of thinking.

It's pretty cut and dried imo, humanity in general are the monkeys in the angels' pov; we take this gift of free will God gave us and use it not to unite as one but to divide and fight and kill. The different instruments coming into play feel like a progression through time of the human race from primitive to modern with machines of war and technology at the most agressive part and then at the end it is like we are left to quietly muse over why we are the way we are.

Another great video. This song is about humans being inept, careless, greedy. Violent, evil, spineless, and not comprehending that we were not created as a spirit of fear, but of love, look at the blood diamonds that were being taken out of the ground in Africa. It created massive wealth for few but the greed enslaved thousands of human beings to take the diamonds out of the ground. The financial reward for said diamonds financed war, death destruction, pain, misery and suffering. Humans are more about earthly treasures than about taking care of one another. About love, kindness , doing the creators will or even caring about the earth our only home. There is plenty of riches on earth but greed , and earthly power is all that mankind seeks. There are countless examples of how true this song is.

What you say is extremely correct. No Angel has ever been able to choose, but no one has ever dared to complain about this or to discuss God's will. Since you seem like someone who has already gone deep into the lyrics , it should be easy for you to understand which angels complained about God's choices calling his creatures "repulsive" and started a war over it. Obviously this, although quite widespread, is only an interpretation, but even if usually in TOOL there are many possible facets, this song instead is rather direct and explicit. It is the telling of a biblical story, and if you pay a little attention it is quite easy to guess the protagonists.

The way I think about Tool is that the guys who play the instruments are better thought of as composers. They don't just figure out a simple verse chorus with a good sound/hook. They, like classical composers, create many different "sounds" that play off each other. They just start with some riffs and beats and then they PUT IN THE WORK to create/build the sound/musicality to the absolute limit. We are all really really lucky those 3 guys got together. The fact that nothing in the world sounds even remotely close to Tool does say something about what they create.

A couple of the bands that influenced Tool were Pink Floyd and Rush which set themselves apart from everyone else in their time. I, like some other fans, call Tools style of music Math Metal because of the musical note complexities and different time signatures. Because of this, it changes the feeling and emotion of the music from how we usually relate to most regular common commercial types of music. That's my opinion anyway.

Very rare to get such a perfect storm of talent that’s on another level. Every member is experimental, original and a master at their craft. And they just happen to complement each other perfectly.

The brilliant lyrics behind Tool's music is that even though there is a specific influence behind a song (such as MJK's mother in the songs "Judith" and "Wings for Marie"), the words are written in such a way as to be interpreted in many different ways and contexts by listeners with varying personal histories. One interpretation of "Right In Two" that I enjoy is the reference that people will take possession of something, and instead of sharing it peacefully they divide it amongst themselves in order to claim ownership of their part. But no person is ever satisfied by the division, and covet what the others possess. So they fight over what they perceive should have been theirs as well. Hence the amusement of the angels watching humans fighting over pieces of the ground, and failing to realize that Eden has enough to go around (referring to the Earth as Eden). It's a very profound and ultimately sad characterization of humanity, and unfortunately we see it reinforced globally in wars, nationally and locally in business practices, and even among neighbors with property disputes. Hell, I'm guilty of getting angry when my neighbor mows across the property line. And while I'm a land owner and business operator, and a proud American who believes in capitalism, I also hold dear the belief in fair market opportunities and competition, and grow more disgusted with the immoral/unethical but ultimately not illegal practices of others. Such as the failed attempts of a developer to sue my family for not selling them property that had been in the family for over 270 years because our unwillingness to sell "stood in the way of progress and the best interests of the community as a whole". See, my personal history has influenced how I've interpreted the song.

That's one of my favorite lines ever! "Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here"
I believe he's speaking about the human condition, as he does in much of his music. How we've evolved from apes, in this garden of eden which has more than enough for all of us, but we fight and kill each other to control land, food, resources... etc. And this is what we choose to use our free will for. To kill each other, war with each other, steal from each other...
Angels, who lack free will, knowing we were granted free will, logic and reason, can only sit by , at first "puzzled and amused" then later "baffled and confused", and watch us not only take it all for granted, but never even take the time to take it in and appreciate the divinity, knowing that we will die soon, considering other animals do not have the insight of knowing that our time is limited and cannot recognize the divinity in it all.

This song will be listened to and still remain relevant when our unborn great grandchildren enter this fucked in world. Absolute Masterpiece and my favorite TOOL song this week. With TOOL that can be said every week, next week I might be tripping on breaking up with my girl then Schism will be my favorite. When my moms passed away my favorite TOOL song was Wings for Marie/10,000 days cuz like Maynard’s mom my mom name was Marie.

I really enjoyed this one. Seen it a few times. Ya'll seem super open and welcoming. Very enjoyable to virtually sit and enjoy a Tool song with some good people. Cuz most folk? They don't get Tool. I scrolled down a bit and didn't see this. But sorry if it's repetitive. "pieces of the ground" = Land, acreage, countries. WAR! The song is in a time signature of 11/4 almost throughout. There are a few times where they go off meter but then come back to it. 3 counts of 1,2,3, followed by one count of 1,2, then repeat.

Right In two is the negative aspect of humans and how we fight each other over things . This is a song puts it front and center hence why he repeats it so much. It's all the sadness, anger and frustration that angels have in watching humans be so selfish and possessive.

  • @abhinav1690
    @abhinav1690 2 года назад +1

I think the song is talking about duality. Humans have a tendency to divide everything into ''two''. Happiness and suffering, wisdom and ignorance and more importantly, the divide between "you" and "me". Duality exists because of human ignorance and the egotistical mind. Unless that ego is completely removed, you cannot get rid of your labels and the idea of 'self'. Every war that has ever happened, every crime that was ever committed is because of this very ignorance. Maynard pities humanity and he is pointing out that we are consciously or unconsciously wasting our time here instead of trying to achieve the state of undifferentiated unity.
This is my interpretation and I am not trying to force my opinion on anyone. Listening to TOOL is a great way to introspect and make small changes in your life.

This is 100% Maynard talking about the evolution of man....with one common theme...even though there is plenty for everyone, we will continue to fight over everything at all cost, even if we are beating our brothers down, speaking as an overall view of us all coming from one father and all being brothers and sisters...fighting over everything, land, fire, air....at any cost the human race is now fighting in an almost comical "he who dies with the most wins" Best Line in the song..."Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here" Great reaction guys!!!!

We all can enjoy the earth and be as one . Instead we choose to cut it in two and divide ourselves and go against one another. Basically god and the angels are saddened by our choices after they gave us such goodness on this earth

I always saw this song also as a representation of conciousness. There needs to be an object and a subject in order to experience. Thus reality must be divided at least in two in order to be experienced.

Really fun to watch young people like yourselves discover just how great rock music really is. When you dive deep the into it you realize it has everything that makes great music. The lyricism, the musicianship, and the greatness of the compositions and artists! Not all rock is this great but a lot of it is; it's not just a lot of noise (although that's still what my mom thinks😁). It's time to discover the other band that always takes you on a journey. Pink Floyd.
