"Repugnant is the creature that will squander the ability to lift and eye to heaven conscious of its fleeting time here." One of the most eye-opening and best lyrics I've ever heard
dang..
EVER!
Most people don’t grasp the gravity of this line
Love that one
Dude!!!! Same!!!!
Brad should always have lyrics in front of him, especially with Tool.
I agree 100% he's like me, a good beat is great and all, but what message are they trying to convey.
Yes with this song he needs lyrics ...too big a message not to receive
Wrong, lol...Tool's like the LAST band to read the lyrics upon your first listen...That's they DON'T INCLUDE their lyrics in their Album booklets. I believe Maynard has been on record saying that you should listen and feel the music before getting into the lyrics
@@scottkoppinger2595 While I agree it’s best to ‘feel’ the music then ‘understand’ it…
With reaction videos people typically give it 1 listen. So while I think you’d agree that’s a travesty, especially when listening to tool, I think they need to have the ability to take in all they can get in that first listen.
@@Joe-bv7io Sure some bands they may only listen to once, but this is Tool, ha, I think it's very rare, especially for people who are musically inclined to just one and done their songs almost ever...Reading the lyrics can detract from the experience, since you're thinking about the meaning of things more than you're feeling the music.
A tool song is like skydiving for the first time. Let me explain. When you go on your first skydive they recomend that you do two, preferably in a row. The first one is such a raw rush of so many things that the brain doesn't remember most of it. You need that second one to fully experience it complete. For it to truly soak in.
During the intro, Brad was completely into the music without needing any lyrics. We’ve come a LONG way. Great job Brad!
I was totally thinking the same thing...Brad has def grown with the channel, certainly more open-minded with his music appreciation nowadays.
Thats cause the man just saw this song in concert days before. We all know music hits different when you've heard it live
Yes getting better, but still George Constanza!
TOOL is more than a band, they're an experience. The songwriting and musicianship is next level, and Maynard's lyrics actually make you think. Plus, this song has THE most epic breakdown I've ever heard in my life
You really can’t go wrong with Tool. Like ever…
EVER...
EVER....!
Angels on the sideline
Puzzled and amused
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they're all confused
Don't these talking monkeys know that
Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys
Where there's one you're bound to divide it
Right in two
Angels on the sideline,
Baffled and confused
Father blessed them all with reason,
And this is what they choose?
Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over
Pieces of the ground
Silly monkeys
Give them thumbs, they forge a blade
And where there's one they're bound to divide it
Right in two
Right in two
Monkey killing, monkey killing monkey over
Pieces of the ground
Silly monkeys
Give them thumbs, they make a club
To beat their brother down
How they've survived so misguided is a mystery
Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Fight till they die over sun, over sky
They fight till they die over sea, over air
They fight till they die over blood, over love
They fight till they die over words, polarizing
Angels on the sideline again
Benched along with patience and reason
Angels on the sideline again
Wondering where this tug of war will end
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Right in two
Right in two
Source: Musixmatch
For some reason I always heard it as "Cut and divide it all right in two"
It’s “Cut and divide it all right in two”
Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here...What a lyric!!!! Also, when you react to Tool, *lyrics are a must!!*
Tool has achieved almost a cult-like status. Before they put out their music on RUclips and I guess Spotify, they had a more limited, but loyal fan base. I'm glad they changed their mind, now so many more can experience their unique sound. Maybe in a few years their music will heal the world, similar to The Wyld Stallions in "Bill & Tedd's Excellent Adventure". Whaddya think?
I'm counting on it, my dude! Until that glorious day, keep spreading the good word. Spiral out!
To be fair, I'm pretty sure they changed their mind fairly quickly after they initially committed to a 4 or 5 album contract that stipulated that none of their music could be sold in digital format. Tool was one of the bands that jumped on the "Napster panic" movement and their contract prevented any of their music from being sold digitally (and also prevented on-demand services from playing their music digitally). You can tell they didn't stick with that attitude for very long because a perfect circle was available on MP3 format from the get-go (so at least from Maynard's perspective, the negative attitude about digital music distribution had quickly changed). The release of Fear Innoculum was actually the final album under that particular contract. With that contract now completed with the release, they were no longer constrained and could go back and release their back log of albums on digital format.
Tool has a lot more popularity than you give them credit for noob
WILD STALLIONS!
I believe Tool will be in the history of music as one of the greatest musically talented bands ever.
So cool that you got to experience them live! There's nothing quite like Tool.
Seen Tool live three times. Saw the Lateralus tour way back when, 9 days after 9/11. Normal concert, amazing concert because Tool was performing a lot of the Lateralus album but man I'll never forget the vibe that was in the air that night so soon after. Kind of like a deep breath and just feeling like things would get back to normal. Saw the 10,000 Days tour also and they did some touring the year before Fear Inoculum came out. I'm guessing kinda like working the kinks out after the looong break between albums. Just my opinion but 3 epic shows!!
I think Maynard still does Perfect Circle shows but I haven’t heard of any close friends going for like 4 years
Tool saved my life. Grateful to and for them. thank ya'll for sharing the love guys!!!
Absolutely love this song. It starts off so melodic building and building until it's just kicking you right in the groin and I'm smiling with every blow.
“Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here”
The "it" in "cut it right in two" is whatever you can imagine
First time at Tool I could not feel my heart beat but I could feel Danny beating against my chest. It was amazing.
He was just saying "Cut it all right in two" but was lengthening the "uh" sound in Cut, and was a little light on on the first couple T sounds, making it sound like "Cu-(h)ud id all right in two."
Tool has no bad songs. Thanks guys
I was stumped with what Maynard is saying in the chorus too. Then it just hit me over time, and I was like "Ah, of course".
@Big Homie Steve The Metal Head You're right. And in the chorus, what it sounds to me like he's saying makes sense coming from the angels. I suppose the chorus should start with "(They've)", but I think he leaves that word out on purpose, I'm guessing for melodic reasons, I'm not sure.
Really get in party mood when I see Lex rocking out
Lyrics, lyrics, lyrics, musical composition…. Tool is out of this world!
Thank you so much for connecting. Much love.
can't go wrong on Tool...the lyrics on this song are amazing...next "Rosetta Stoned" please!!!
I never leave home without a pen these days.....just in case.......you know, in case the aliens want to fill me in with the details of our ending.

Lost Keys and Rosetta Stoned together
Will only work if Brad has the lyrics. Especially with that one! If you know you know😉
thank you for reacting to Tool good people, first time i heard Tool was in 1996, I was 23 years old. Greetimgs from Denmark
This is one of my favorite tracks by them. It really shows of the whole spectrum of the band in one track.
Went to the Tool show last night in Boston. Unbelievable!
Tool fills a void in the music world. I'd like to say they're a "thinking persons" band, sort of like Rush when they came out... BUT Tool can also blow the doors off of anything!! So fun!
Goosebumps every time I listen to Right in Two
You gotta find the lyrics here . They so true with regards to the way humans are.
Maynard always uses metaphors, humans here, divided. Another song uses Mom for mother nature. Here, killing for pieces on the ground, humans killing each other for land. Danny rules.
#ToolArmy
I don't think there's any metaphor in this song, other than angels. It's slightly more blunt than aenima.
God, creation division, humanity....
"When you're ready, you'll hear it"...me likes that
Brad: *pauses song*
Lex: "Ooh!"
U 2 are Becoming Bigger Fans each time I Check U Both out "Tool" Songs I can tell Lex Is Really Feeling the Vibe & Your Smiling Face as U Jam Tells the Real Story... Glad U 2 Saw "Tool" Live in Concert that Is Always Good Time had by All...
Tool! well hell yeah you cant get better than this! she has again that "i really do like this" smile. we all love that and ok .... both of your reactions! keep em coming and we listen!
You got to check out "Tempest" a song they didn't perform when you saw them in concert, but is on album they are currently touring on. Plus this song won a Grammy for best Rock/Metal song. It's absolutely💯🔥❤️🌀😎, you'll be blown away by the musicianship and will definitely go on eargasmic journey.
7empest, lmao
@@cyb3r159 whoa
Repugnant is a creature that would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven conscious of it's fleeting time here. This song is the angels observation of human beings.
FYI, the track before this, Intension, refers to blade and club as well and leads into this one, following the theme of stereo and duality on the 10,000 days album.
I love Intension and feel it's underrated. Lyrics and the buildup in the song are epic
Brad is a lyrical kind of guy, I am too. It's important to get the lyric videos, cause that's a big part of the magic with Tool.
TOOL...🔥🔥🔥
#STUDIOVERSION
Favorite tool song for me, back in the day my teacher played this for us in English class in high school And made us write about it, I already knew the song but it was cool.
Sounds like a chill teacher
I love Tool, but this is my favorite song from them! It's impressive to me that Lex, you have a natural instinct of picking up on the timing of it, or at least your mind wants to get it, I think you may really have a musical talent in you that you may or may not have explored
The song is about her, in a phone call with her Mom trying to convince her Mom she’s ok out on her own and explaining falling in love with the guitar player it’s so good it feels like magic he’s the “magic man”
“Cut it all, right in two”
I’ve seen TOOL twice. The first time Maynard was front and center. The second time he stood to the left of the drum kit. Both times were equally amazing. 🤘😆🤘
Angels on the sideline again. Benched along with patience and reason.
One of the best songs Tool has to offer, and they have many.
This song is Tool in a nutshell. But they are also so much more.
I listen to this song all the time. ⚡🤘🔥🔥🤘⚡
Hello Brad & Lex, I just started watching your reactions and I liked your reaction to this Tool song. For me this song took me on a journey through time, the music was very primitive in the beginning then evolved into more complex and aggressive sounds. Then you bring in the Maynard's words talking about Angels on the side watching "us" monkeys in Eden where there is plenty for all but we divide it in two. Give "us" a thumb and we make a club to beat our brothers down because we want not one but theirs and ours. Then I thought about how our brain evolved the primitive part "base instinct," this is represented in the song as the primitive percussion, then we grew another layer of our brain for more complex reasoning, the music gets more complex but those same monkeys, "us" still fighting over borders that we create to divide in two ours and theirs. The angels are still watching from the sidelines wondering where this is going to. Tool provides the frequency and the words and when we hear their songs we begin to change. As a species we need to ascend. The earth has plenty for all the earth's resources are ours by birth and money was created to divide in two what we need from what they have. We should have a resource based economy, clean air and clean water basic life sustaining things that all of "us" monkeys require not desire.
Thank you so much for this! My favorite of Tool songs. I hope that you both get well soon. When you do, please add Tool - Wings For Marie to a poll.
Maynard used to roam their AOL message board back in the early days of Tool. He made a deal to send you the lyrics but only if you sent him your version of what you heard first. Still have the copies he sent on the Zoo label letterhead. He thought it was more important for you to find your own meaning from the song
I hope you guys are feeling better. Best wishes.
This song touches my soul.
I love playing this song on guitar, that pinch harmonic section is too addictive
wow thanks, im a huge pink floyd fan and for some reason i know that i should like tool, i am music first then lyrics later type of person, until now i have found it hard to like them but i keep trying, i know i should like them, i think you have opened the door for me, i love this song, tool fans help me what other songs are similar, just to open the door wider. just read the lyrics for this, liking the song and tool more.
Always liked reflection great song
Ahhh TOOL!! my fav band of all time!!!!
Earth to Lex, come in Lex! Grouse to see you rocking out to Tool. In the zone!
"studio (version) sounds a little sanitized" - you are now one of us
I love how you guys get into the zone of the song! Tool does that to me too, I love it
Every time I hear a TOOL song come on I inevitably get super stoked and think OH..! THIS is my favorite TOOL song ...just like this one...
What a great song...
And the music always takes me away somewhere deep in my psyche, somewhere a bit strange, and seemingly somehow otherwise inaccessible to me ....
Vicarious
Chew on those lyrics Brad
I’m so glad you guys got your butts to a Tool concert because no matter what your musical taste a Tool concert is something to behold.
Brad looks deep into the music. Lex feels it.
Brad, I love how you're always trying to put the puzzle together. I've been a sub for a long time and really love watching you both on this journey. Thanks for sharing!
Part of the fun listening to a song a buncha times to hear it all
I’m crying AGAIN. Only heard this masterpiece for the Nth time.
I am so happy you two made it to your first TOOL show, it is an experience . My wife and I caught the Boston show on the 19th of February.
They are to me in the top 3 of best bands live. of course I personally think they are the greatest band ever lyrically, and musically .
all very capable musicians and Maynard is an incredibly talented singer and song writer.
I think the fear inoculum album and subsequent concert dates created a ton of new tool fans. there were a bunch of first time tool show goers at the Boston show , you can hear people talking about it and how shocked they were to see the band live.
another great video, Thank you!
You Two are Beautiful Hearts ♥️
The song is sung from the perspective of angels.
Wait! You saw Tool? Didn't Lex just go to her first concert, recently? You two are on a roll! Right on!
I'm so glad you guys went to a tool show..you experienced one of the best shows in the world
Yup! When you listen to Tool at home, you feel it in your mind... At the concert you feel it in your chest!
Theistic Evolution. Monkeys granted consciousness, became human. Freewill. We then choose to kill each other. Cut each other right in too. Angels can't understand.
Favorite Tool song!
Think the key lyric people miss upfront
-Father blessed them all with reason-
After that missing piece it’s a pretty simple, and deep nugget to explore.
"Repugnant is the creature that would squander the opportunity to lift an eye to heaven conscious of their fleeting time here." - one of Maynard's best lyrics. One of my favorites Tool songs also...
@@ItsAlways710 right? Nice little dig I didn’t catch until many, many listens later. Same for drum fills, bass lines… changes the journey. And i catch new stuff every time I re-listen to a Tool song. Like, after 2 years I’m finally starting to “get” Invincible.
Arguably Satan blessed them all with reason, but it’s a great song.
@@jasonblodgett8769 I’m game. Does Satan have angels? And if Satan blessed them with reason, why would the angels be baffled and confused? Fighting would be what Stan wants, right?
I got to see them play this song in St Louis 2007.. 👍👍
It's about Angels looking down at humans and seeing how they fight with each other over territory and resources when there is more than enough to go around. They watch as they build weapons to kill each other and mankind is constantly divided, unable to co exist with each other peacefully, always fighting over stupid little things.
this
is my personal favorite tool song. thanks for doing it brad & lex. feel better soon guys.
Glad you got to see them in concert. They are like no other. I only seen them 5 times. But 5 i will never forgert. So awesome.

I get people wanting to be able to understand the lyrics, but most of the time I just like vibing to the music.
Love this song soo much. One of my favorite tool songs!
just got back from the show in Boston....crazy good!
glad you went to see them live awesome it's even better when they have APC and tool at the same concert
I just witnessed the spectacle that is Tool in Pittsburgh and the crowd went nuts for this song.
I've seen Tool twice live, Maynard doesn't like the bright lights, he stays out of them as much as he can. Even when he sings for A perfect Circle when I saw them, he was front and center there, but the lights were never in his face.
She has such a fun personality.
Brad and lex that’s good music I like it
Wearing the right Tool listening outfits
Love your guys videos. Been listening to Tool since 94'. I would be stoked to see you do something from the new album, Invincible or Descending would be good. Next level drum and guitar work, takes several listens to hear everything going on. Every Tool album feels like an evolutionary step for them. Great channel keep up the good work.
I haven't watched the reaction yet still the beginning but if these two have even the slightest clue what this song is about I'll be blown away. Lol it's a complicated song but simple at the same time.
HE SAYS "CUT IT ALL RIGHT IN 2"
yay!! you guys did right in two ;)
One of my favourites lyrically
When this album came out my son was little and called this the drumming monkey song
Put this on heavy rotation following the March 15 mosque shootings here in Aotearoa, the lyrics seemed appropriate
The chorus is: "Cut and divide it all Right In Two" talking about splitting up, half and half, basically everything, for the two common groups of individuals: good and evil.
It’s “gotta divide it all right it two” on the official Spotify lyrics
@@AlexS-ei7kp yeah, Google and other places say that, too. That's part of the reason TOOL doesn't publish their lyrics, they let the listener decide what they're hearing. To each his own. Some places even say 'Cut it, divide it all Right in Two'. All three of these I can see Maynard using... And for all we know, he may do just that. Possibly even something different. One of the many beauties of TOOL - the mystery.
Thanks lex I know that it's you reading my chat messages 😂😂😂.keep up the Awsome Tool reaction videos I love me some Tool and so should you I see ya groovin out. Please please please do pneuma and 7empest next please. Thanks guys
The dichotomy of man's idea of order, sharing, and war. Angel's confused by man's choices and our behavior.

Hello, I like your vids! I especially like how you don’t waste any time and start the songs right away!!
Such an amazing song.
I love seeing Lex vibe to the music so much 🤟🤟
