    One of my absolute favorite Tool songs, now that’s a powerful sermon I didn’t need to sit in a church pew to get, ha. Love how the music progresses from ancient tribal to that driving violence of nuclear annihilation to illustrate the long history of mankind’s warlike contentious nature. BTW-the band writes the music then Maynard puts lyrics to the music. He has so much vocal range that he is the 4th instrument. I only started listening in 2019. All other music seems childish after listening to this band.

Both know how to create moments of tension an realization extremely well along with having epic climaxes to their work. Adam Jones the guitarist of Tool, explained in an interview that he uses his guitar similar to that of a film, creating a atmosphere like experience. Their Song Pushit show cases this. For me it feels like a short movie with its builds, changes and epic finale. A Masterpiece. You should react to both their live and studio version of Pushit

    The music itself is divided in two as well. You can count to 11 to get back to the 1 or you count 6 and then 5 to get back to the 1 or the beginning of the riff, essentially dividing the riff into an uneven pattern thus when dividing giving more to one side than the other gets. This was cool to me when I figured it out

    Very thoughtful review. The things that he picked up were very on point and I think he may enjoy finding out how Tool approaches the making of a song. How they make the music first, and then Maynard adds lyrics. Since the song is finished, he definitely is intentional when the lyrics musically align as well. He should also know that Maynard definitely sees his voice as the final instrument in the band. He's not just another singer who is out in the front, these guys are a complete unit. Can't wait to hear more. Subbed off this. Cheers.

      lol you don’t have a decent set of headphones or a good DAC- and you must be young lol the lyrics are “gotta divide” - not “cut n divide”, you young tool fools are repeating stuff others have misquoted. We OG’s know.

    From an atheist perspective, it could be pointing out the absurdity of there being angels watching at all, and that we're all just animals responding to our primal upbringings. And as far as their writing goes, music comes first, lyrics come second. So while they intended to music to sound like that, the singer/lyricist took that piece and added the meaning (he's kinda good (they all are)). The part i love most about this song, is that while the lyrics are about our inability to get along, the piece itself is impossible to perform without an epic level of coordination within the band. To me it says, 'yeah, we can't always get along, but when we do, we can create things like this.'

    Cut and divide it all in two

    • @SatanDynastyKiller
      @SatanDynastyKiller Месяц назад

      Nope. Get a better DAC, a decent set of headphones, and stop repeating millenials version of the lyrics that they have read on some youtube lyrics vid, which is wrong. Original lyrics are gotta divide it all in two (gotta also shows agency of monkey, cut it would mean Maynard was repeating the action through the lyrics cut it divide it, being that cutting something or dividing it gives same outcome. Makes no sense for such a skilled writer) - I have heard it live many years ago, several times - GOttA DEE VIIDE IT ALL IN TWOOOO….

      @@GaffneyInkwell You're most welcome :) What a great 2 part video it was.....I always get emotional and the hairs stand on the back of my neck every time I hear that song, but especially when I see someone else hearing it for the first time....and someone from his background is really a joy to hear his take on it. Do you plan on subjecting him to Judith next?

      @@GaffneyInkwell sorry for the confusing reply. I thought I was talking to Bryan lol.
      Jimmy from the Aenima album is also another touching song about his realtionship with his mother. Jimmy being the name she called him as a child. Maynard is in fact not his real first name.
      Then of course there's the songs Opiate and Prison Sex which deal with a very troubling experience he had as a child.
