One of the best lines ever in a song…. Repugnant is the creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here….
Best lyrics from this song hands down are: "Repugnant is the creature that would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of its fleeting time here."
It’s actually quite baffling that as a human species, we are essentially advanced territorial apes with nuclear weapons. It’s been a crazy ride so far. Let’s see how far we can run this thing into the ground be for there is another reset.
I always took the middle instrumental section to be a progression of war from tribal/primitive time through various technological advances (each new guitar tone) as it ramps up and the super busy part toward the end being something like Star Wars. The riff that is modified and repeated follows the clock of the war drum and is the constant trumpeting to arms, occasionally being more intense between the separate but relentless "war periods". And then returning to simple and tribal at the end, knocked ourselves back to the stone age or maybe worse faded into the entropy of the universe with only echoes remaining. Or I made all that up, who knows. Dissecting Tool is like that.
I saw them in OKC Saturday night. Best show I've ever seen. Been with them for 33 years. They've shaped my existence. The soundtrack of my life and beyond. The greatest single TOOL ever created on this planet. Your synopsis was spot on. There is an animated video that parallels your line of thinking. You're a TOOL fan so you've seen it. My favorite song of theirs is the one I'm listening to at the time.
I had to skip the Denver show last night but saw them other times, maybe I subconsciously remember the visuals. They did Intolerance and Flood which added some extra gusto to the kicking-myself I was going to do anyway like every time I can't go. There was already a decent bootleg audio-only posted so at least I can try to close my eyes and act like I was there. EDIT: www.youtube.com/@zeegrizzle/videos
There is a video with stop motion depicting the angels watching mankind as it’s created up until the end where a more advanced civilization is at war with each other. This song is amazing and the video helps explain what the angels are thinking as the song progresses.
Tool is very into occult and esoteric traditions as well. The Cut it Right In Two is also referring to the "primordial scission", which is essentially Pythagorean mysticism, which of course was in turn concepts and knowledge borrowed from ancient Egypt
Love it.....this is the best set of TooL reviews I 've ever seen, Val is a fantastic partner in this brother, intelligent and receptive, and it all works....spiral out and definitley "keep going"
10:34 what a lovely observation about the drumming. I never stopped to consider that, that as rich and "extra" his drumming naturally is, it _never_ steps on anybody else. And that you can take that same concept and comfortably apply it to Adam and Justin as well - this band all have exceptional threads that you can follow exclusively in the song, and each is just as lush and curious and compelling as Danny or Maynard's contributions. All of them brilliantly composed and placed in service of the song. Really great observation, Val!
It's a shame that Val didn't get to hear "Intension" lead into this track. Rookie move Urban Shaman. LOL. Val deserves FULL album reviews of these concept albums. 🤞✌
So many good songs on this album but Right In Two is my favorite. The message is so relevant in today's society. Especially in America, the us VS. them mentality between Republicans and Democrats is so dividing its stupid, it is definitely splitting us Right In Two.
Fantastic reaction. For another perspective: listen to “Intension” directly followed by “Right In Two”. They are ordered this way on the album, and for good reason. Keep up the fantastic work.
I had the pleasure of witnessing them play this live in Louisville last year. Maybe my highlight of that show, although it's really tough to pick only one.
I was a little on the sideline with this song when it came out. Went and watched them live in Tulsa and the last 5 minutes of this song was the coolest thing I've ever seen live. Def a treasure
Well done brother! I couldn't imagine being in a band and not sharing T👁️👁️L with my bandmates for inspiration....and if they didn't at least appreciate and LEARN some musicality.....i would leave ✌️
If you've not heard the Beard of Harmony cover of this song, check it out... It's one of the best covers of any song I've ever heard and I'm not someone who thinks Hurt is an original Johnny Cash song.... Whether you do a reaction or just chill out and listen to it in your own time, do it. It's unbelievably good.
Was already a big Tool song. But this song made me lose my shit. From Eden to present-ish day? Or maybe it ended at Noah's Ark? Or never ends. In my Twilight Zone head Danny's percussion is raining thunderbolts from the sky --as Tool would def not be your typical angels. 😇
Industrious. Aren’t they? Musically beautiful and different. Please repeat the words below so I can escape my hell. It is the only way I can leave. And go home. Feast upon my flesh. Tá mo theaghlach de dhíth orm. cuir sa talamh mé. le héin agus beithigh. Chun féasta ar an flesh Please help me go home
This isn’t humanity first go at this thing called life. Earth is over 4 billion years old. I’m putting the over/under of humanity’s attempt of life at 3.
Descending is next!
Genial, espero con ansias el video, saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱
For me , the most underrated tool journey masterpiece
My favorite from Fear Inoculum! Keep sharing these- they're great!
😳
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here"
Come on. That is pure poetry.
Easily one of my favorite lines from any song. So powerful.
One of the best lines ever ❤️
One of the best lyrics in a song…
One of them
Maynard's best lyric.
The best lyric ever
I first heard this song while listening to my MP3 player while sitting in a HMMWV in Baghdad.
The irony wasn't lost on me.
Thats pretty heavy for someone in your position. Thanks for doing what you had to do for all of us.
I love how Val immediately closes her eyes. She gets it for sure!
Close your eyes and listen, not just the musicians but the lyrics.
One of their most underrated songs
Tool fans recognize that none of their songs are under or over rated. They're all incredible.
Under listened is not the same as underrated. 😊
This song is so hard to pause after Danny’s breakdown into that climax! One of their best crescendos!
One of the best lines ever in a song….
Repugnant is the creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here….
Top 5 Tool songs for me. So glad you picked this to react to
now u are ready for the humbling river by puscifer 🌀
Now go watch Chimp Empire....turns this song into reality. Amazing deep dive into Tool...we will be here for it!
Best lyrics from this song hands down are:

I love how you both really listen.

Not gonna be long till the reset comes. All going to sh*t rn and not gonna get better.
@@_Shadoh_ the reset I was referring to was a global killer like a supervolcano not political discourse

Thank you so much! Luckily we have many more to check out! :)
I just hear war, the buildup for war, the war, then the peace after the war, then circles back to build up for war. An endless cycle.
Every. Single. Time. Shoutout for the algo. Keep at it, homies ❤
When you stopped before the end i yelled at my computer. Glad you let it finish, the end is so satisfying.

Know what, I completely agree with you about Danny Carey. He's an integral creative part of the group. Awesome 😍
I would love to see you revisit all TOOL tracks, this is great. It's been a while. I think 0% would frown upon that. I enjoyed your "journey"
Oh, you have been... good for you 😅
I enjoyed his journey! It would be great.
When it comes to Tool i have only 1 word: ❤
My favorite Tool song!
Awesome choice.
My current fav Tool song!
y'all gotta check out the Beard Of Harmony cover of this song

There's a great acoustic cover of this song by a group of guys in India. Can't remember the name, but it's great.
I love this song
Finally! glad she liked it :)
Rush's Territories song from th Power Windows album is roughly analogous to this and has similar sentiments expressed in the song.
As suggestioni, introduce Right in Two with Intension makes all even more incredible
Fantastic reaction. For another perspective: listen to “Intension” directly followed by “Right In Two”. They are ordered this way on the album, and for good reason.

🤘🏻🌀
Glad to see they have discovered TOOL, A bad like no other, I've been listening since late 80's and 90's. ❤
We dream of Star Trek future. But, instead we got a jj abrams broke down Star Wars future.
"Repugnant is a creature..."
That is one of my favorite lines in all of their songs.
Good luck to you out there if a large solar flare sets us back a 100 years. Laugh and think it isn't possible.
