I was one of the people who asked about the Arsenal SAM-5 and asked you to make another video about it so thanks for coming through. Your channel is priceless to a new AK enthusiast like me!
Based on these comments, it would seem I need to get a later model SAM5 to try out? I'll see what I can do but I am not going out to buy a 2nd one just for testing. Mine from '20 seems to work jim-dandy, but i get maybe Arsenal made some changes to the receiver or something? *shrug*
@@N238E mine seemed perfectly fine no different than most overgassed aks. Went with KNS gas piston anyways though bc I will with any AK regardless. Love my Sam5 runs like a dream with all mags and ammo
@@BNatoAk Hey! Thanks Brian, it was a fun time.. Hopefully it helps warm me up to the channel, still getting some folks not so sure about the new face. Happy New Year!
RMA update: Arsenal Inc. Customer Service was fantastic and all in. Received a new rifle with proof target enclosed. Rifle looks so perfect! Still need to fire it. But, Arsenal showed great class; exceeded my expectations.
Well I would sure love to know. They seem to eat themselves unfortunately. The reciever deformation is pretty substantial from many a picture on the interwebz. The one my cousin owns runs great. But it is also having some crazy wear patterns as well. For almost 2k i think people expect a little more seeing how rifles of the past didnt have such issues.
@OperationRedSaturn1984 Well, imo a not so good paint finish isn't a big deal. Ceracote can be applied, and that fixes that issue. It's still a disappointment for a 2k rifle.even the slr 107fr had paint issues. Wear patterns, the rifle seems to be over gassed. Causing the bolt carrier to smash into the back of the receiver. Over time, the rear of the receiver gets deformed, causing the bolt carrier to get stuck in the rearward position. With a milled receiver, your SOL. Many have solved the issue with an adjustable gas block. Just do a Google search for images of said wear.
Definitely overgassed. I have put kns pistons in all of my aks now though. So worth it. Best shooting rifle I have ever fired is my sam5 with the kns piston outside of a full-auto ak74 that I had the pleasure of firing at Kalash bash 2020 ❤
Panzy asses needed a damn kns piston to soften recoil on a already super soft shooting 223/5.56 gun lol might as well throw on your skirts too to go along with those kns pistons 😂
@@smoothshot8925 it's about regulating the gas pressure to run the weaker .223 steel case all the way up to the hottest 5.56 with a can on and have the ability to tune how you want it to cycle. You don't throw a can on an allready over gassed AK and just hope it works out. Like you don't throw a bolt on turbo without other mods. When your older you will learn about tuning things like weapons, motorcycles, trucks, guitars, you know....man shit. Go back to dumping lead into the side of a dirt burn with your mid teir AR
Mine was severely over gassed, deformation on the stem of the bolt and bolt carrier after about 200 rounds. Installed a Kns piston, now it’s great. I wish I didn’t have to go the Kns considering how much the rifle is to begin with.
Honestly? I would not have gone KNS. If mine showed the issues yours did, I'd be sending that thing back asap. There are some issues I can and will fix, but others I can not and/or will not.
All I’ll say is this. Imagine an AR-15 manufacturer (geissele, Daniel defense etc) released a 2000 dollar gun which required the customer to make major modifications to the gun and invest significant time and money right out of the box to even make the gun work. And then give the customer the run around when confronted with the issue and provide no help with it to boot. That hypothetical company would be burnt to the ground, as they should. Why Arsenal gets a pass? I’ll never know.
@@GrippinTheGauge206 I wonder if it’s partly because they’re the only game in town for milled receiver AKs unless you go for a custom build on a Sharps Bros or something like that.
A common misconception with Aks is that the tail of the bolt carrier contacts the rear receiver/trunion. It does NOT. It rides above the trunion and the recoil rod end is hallow so it only contacts the trigger hammer. The peening found on carrier tail is usually from an overly hardened hammer(which is why so many people had problems with peening and tapco triggers) The only problem I've seen online with newer SAM5s has to do with the rear receiver having the circular cut(which is unique to bulgarian made milled 556 guns)which looks like it was attempt to avoid bolt contact but instead is a little under cut so the left and right edges of the bolt gets peened when a rifle is severely over-gassed. I bought my sam5 with a ALG already installed(unfired). If the hammer is profiled right it should hold the bolt forward when the carrier is all the way back under recoil. Yes, super over-gassed guns can still over come the hammer and peen on the receiver but many will work harden to the point the damage won't progress. I bought an adjustable piston for mine because I want to suppress it anyways and my can has alot of back pressure but wouldn't be a bad idea anyways. I know it sucks to put money into a gun that already cost so much but then again what's another $100 when it will make the gun so much more enjoyable to shoot.
I’ve never had any issue with any video you’ve ever done. I mean, your knowledge level is just off the charts and I love your classroom style approach to videos. I do find this to be severely downplaying the issue with the most recent batch of SAM-5s. The problem guns being reported are not from 2020, but the ones from 2022 and perhaps 2021. There is quite of bit of video and photo evidence of SAM-5s quote literally beating themselves to death. Extreme peening of the bolt tail and carrier is happening almost immediately, in some cases within the first magazine. I’ve witnessed one first hand, in addition to the dozens of online accounts. Thanks as always for doing what you do and sharing your array of knowledge. I do wish this video had an example from the recent problem batches, but I understand that’s not what you have. All the best
I totally get that, but I don't own a 2021-2022 SAM5. I do own a 2020, so i did what i could and took her back out again to put as many more rounds through as we had time for. Remember, all the guns on this channel are ones I bought. I don't get T&Es. As for what i said Arsenal said, I was conveying what i was told when I asked them. That was why i said take it however you want. I can't verify things, only pass along the message. I spoke with them Friday morning on the phone, and we recorded this video Saturday afternoon. I am not saying people aren't having serious issues. I am only showing that my own gun seems to be holding up pretty well after 2 years. I try and only speak using 1st-hand experience whenever possible.
@@mikeeeeee555 The effort probably isn’t a problem, as I doubt Misha would turn down more time on the range blasting away with AKs. However, what you propose is not an inexpensive proposition.
I didn't even realize this was an issue and I'm a Kalashnikov addict. My SAM5 has actually become one of my favorite shooters because of the gas being well tuned from the factory. I'll be following this now.
I respect Arsenal makes good AKs, I just cant bring myself to buy one. Main reason is they are imo too pricey considering Atlantic has great Imported alternatives for less. Like someone mentioned they are mass produced and subject to fudgeups. Their finish on a 1800$ gun is outrageous. On the other hand I can see a collector purchasing one or more.
I’m an Arsenal owner and couldn’t agree with your comment more. Abysmal watercolor finish, bad qc, really badly canted parts, not just a little cant, extreme cant that significantly affects the ability of the user to even zero the gun. Inexplicably frozen muzzle devices and front sight posts that require a torch and breaker bar to move. Bad customer service. Horrible dishonest business practices. Not to mention proprietary small parts which have been completely unobtainable for years. Obscenely overpriced for the product and experience you get. I would not buy another one unless their price dropped or their quality increased.
From my understanding it was the bolt stem that was getting beat up. The rear of the receiver (what would be the rear trunnion on a stamped gun) has a radius cut, where on the sam7, and even the older sam5's its a straight wall cut, the radius isn't perfect, and its making contact with the sides of the bolt stem and the wear looks very different than other rifles. I haven't shot my sam5 enough to tell if its an issue yet with mine, but there is definitely a difference in the wear pattern on the bolt stem between my sam7 and sam5
@@misha5670 most people I have seen just go the KNS route, but a harder to reset trigger or heavier recoil spring could help the issue I would imagine. It's a very odd wear pattern though, really flattens out the left and right of the bolt stem from the radius cut
There’s definitely batches of SAM5s out there that self destruct within 500 rounds. Picked mine up about 1 year ago and haven’t fired it cause of school. Its serial prefix is BE 61 and I’m really curious if that coincides with the bad runs of SAM5s.
I don't think anyone knows right now which guns are more pronee to wear than others. For one, the exact reason/cause hasn't been established yet. But if i had to guess? I would say something to do with teh gas port. I wish pulling the GB off an AK were easier. If so, i would remove mine and the one from a 2021-2022 example, but right now I relaly don't have the shop tools to do that, apologies.
I'm not doubting your information your sharing but if that's the case I havnt seen one video of a arsenal milled receiver detonating in fact I have never seen a video or proof of any arsenal detonating milled or stamped
@@shaneclose792 mine is BE 61 or 62 too , only thing i changed out is the hammer, 922r requires imported rifles to change to 5 USA parts which the hammer was one of em, going to add the KNS piston soon but other than that, its a great smooth AK.
My severely-deformed SAM5 has been at Arsenal for almost a month now with no ETA and no dialogue about how things will be taken care of, only after waiting a month and a half for an RMA (different excuse every week). Super lame. Also had to pay $51 to ship it back to them 🥴
@@conorobrien2411 yep. I actually have been in communication with two guys from Arsenal. One claims they’re waiting on parts from Bulgaria (would not specify which parts or provide ETA), and the other says their engineering team hasn’t finalized/approved a solution yet. Which begs the question why would they be ordering parts from Bulgaria if the engineering team hasn’t finalized/approved a solution yet? The only proper solution is so obvious, and the fact that they’re beating around the bush so much about it makes me think they’re going to try to cut corners in some fashion or another.
@@conorobrien2411I did recently tell them they can just send me a check for $2,063.94 for the cost of the rifle plus the $51 I had to spend to ship it back to them because I’m so sick of the dumb excuses and all the beating around the bush. They didn’t even acknowledge that request 😅
At the end of the day, as annoying as some issues might be, lets be real; these are just guns. Its not the end of the world. Not like when your car completely dies on you or you have a giant bill after going to the hospital. Just trying to put things in perspective a bit.
Thanks! That narrows things down. Mine's in the 61 range. It's unfired for now. From comments section, seems Arsenal knows there's an issue and may be working out a plan. So, I'll hold off for more discovery.
@@misha5670 planned to have a Definitive Arms Front Site/Gas Block Combo installed with chop job and pinned muzzle device. Got all the parts. As it stands, it is a pretty good test case. Suppose it has to be fired first. I'm conflicted.
Arsenal took 3 months to get me a RMA and I have to pay for shipping to them. No big deal right? Wrong ! FedEx and Ups don't accept firearms from individuals after new policy update .So now I have to go to a FFL because they won't provide a call tag ! I am so thrilled with Arsenal let me tell you.
Is it possible to chop the barrel down to pin and weld a muzzle device. It looks like you’d lose your cleaning rod and either lose your front sight or have to move it. I would plan on running an optic. I just think it would be even sweeter with a 14” barrel and sometimes run a Huxwrx flow 556k on it.
My 2021 SAM-5 has some rear bolt peening after a couple hundred rounds. That being said I was always going to suppress it and put on a KNS. So yeah I’m kind of pissed my 2000$ rifle has overgassing issues, but my plan was to have a kns in it from the get go so I had budgeted that in along with mags when I got the gun…
@@misha5670 I don't think the SAM5 is going to go down as the Arsenal gun to have of this generation. I think the Beryl is going to be the 5.56 collectable gun. If i got a Beryl and it had these issues I'd be more mad because I'd want to keep that original, or just add the hand guards, rail and stock and run it military style. SAM5 is just a shooter, a very good and expensive shooter but I don't think it's going be sought after.
The early 2020 batch like yours seems gassed correctly. It’s the 2021 batches and on that seem to have the out of spec gas port cracking bolt tails and peening receivers
my Sam5 had an EGREGIOUSLY canted gas block, sight block was fine. Had to spend some money to get a gunsmith to fix it, but now it's fine. Havent noticed harsh recoil, but I did notice the bolt carrier tail peening on the fime trigger. I only have about 500 rounds through it so I will have to wait and see what's happening. I have added a thin blue buffer i got from 4shooters, doesn't seem to hurt anything, we will see how it goes.
That’s unacceptable. You shouldn’t have to spend more money to make an already expensive rifle right. Arsenal should have made it right no questions asked, and they shouldnt have let it get past qc in the first place. I’m sick of the excuses
@@GrippinTheGauge206 I don’t think anyone here disagrees. They’re just trying to make the best of the situation, which is all one can really ever do. I don’t own one, so I really don’t have a dog in the fight. A double hook trigger install seems like an easy enough solution, should it resolve some of the issue. Should it be necessary? Of course not.
If anyone here does end up getting a 5.56 AK I highly recommend getting AC Unity 5.56 AK mags they work in pretty much all 5.56 AKs except for the galil
I am dry for these videos, but the videos from that night's party well? A different side of me came out. I do show a bit of that over on my personal channel too. Alpacca chili anyone?
My hunch is that it's a post 2020 issue. I got the first batch from K-Var and no problems, and seems like the issues are 2021-22. We'll see what Arsenal says.
All manufacturers can't keep up with demand anymore. We are seeing the effects of short staffing, fatigued workers, and unrealistic production goals due to the gun buy scare. KUSA,PSA,cugir,WBP,Arsenal and even the praised Lee armory build aks having issues. At this rate we may see a shift from AKs to ARs in the market
@Misha trigger guards aren't heat treated there was a picture on FB from a builder showing they bend or break easily due to not being heat treated correctly. I need to find the link to his FB and I'll try to post it here, not the biggest issue in the world but something to keep note of.
mine is also first batch from kvar and its beating the piss out of the tail of the bolt. So much so that another mag or two should stick the firing pin. Depending if it sticks front or back I may get the excitement of slam firing LOL. Time to call arsenal and time for a video. Probably going to be hard to get the bolt out of the carrier pretty soon as well. Oh yea, one more thing, the face of the hammer is severely deformed from the tail of the carrier slamming it so hard. The thing launches brass! Current record is over 60 feet!! NOT KIDDING. Im also not an arsenal hater. I have over a dozen and all have been great with the exception of this gun and one with a couple minor cosmetic issues I took care of.
Did anyone notice the shape of the rear of the receiver changed on the SAM5? It’s more u shaped as opposed to the more flat profile on the other rifles. Also, the problem isn’t on the bolt carrier tail. But on the rear of the bolt stem which makes contact with that u shaped part on the rear.
Deformation on my sam5 bolt stem, bolt would no longer game out of the carrier the bolt stem was so deformed. Arsenal sent a SAM7 as a replacement. The problematic wear is the spot on the bolt stem; I can tell on your video the end of your bolt stem is in no longer painted and looks white from the deformation. The”high spot” you were talking about is co texting the bolt stem and stopping the carrier instead of he carrier doing the hard work. 61 dated rifle
Oh the paint is definitely off mine. Like I said, there is definitely wear, no question of that but with mine, the bolt comes out of the carrier just fine and the BCG comes out of the receiver without fusssing.
I would of loved to have gotten to 1k with no hiccups, love the in depth view on yours. Mine was at Arsenal for about a month and I just kept complaining and they sent out a brand new SAM7 for the replacement. They didn’t leave me hanging.
It would be interesting to see the gas port size in the barrel on a Sam 5 vs. a Beryl Also the part everyone on Reddit is showing getting massively deformed as the rear part of the bolt not the tail of the carrier.
The only thing the rear of the bolt should be contacting is the hammer. When the BCG is out of battery, the bolt carrier tail sticks back further and so the bolt itself shouldn't be making contact with the rear of the receiver. So if that's happening, I would be very suspicious of the FIME FCG.
I've run a bore cam through both my Beryl 5.56 and my Sam5. In my particular rifles the Sam5 has a bigger port, but not by much (which is to be expected considering the shorter barrel). I consider myself one of the lucky ones who doesn't have a toilet bowl of a gas port. Fun side note, the gas ports on both my Bren2 and my Aug are FAR larger than than either of the AKs. Not really relevant, but something I found surprising.
@@misha5670 In a lot of these rifles that is not the case. The deformation on the rear of the bolt stem directly correlates to the deformation on the rear of the receiver. The curved notch (which is not present in Sam7s) is making contact with bolt stems in some of these rifles when the overgassing is bad enough. I've actually seen a slow motion video of one firing without the dust cover and you could see the impact and the rifle violently quivering as a result. Of course not all of these rifles have such drastic issues, my own doesn't.....but some of them are in fact so overgassed that the bolt stem and receiver and deforming themselves, once again with the deformation concentrated in the receiver notch.
Keep in mind though that the SAM5 has a 16" barrel, while the Beryl-M556 has an 18". Maybe better to compare ports in the SAM5 with an original SA M-5.
My Sam5 94 is currently back at Arsenal. I started seeing the unusual wear after two range trips and a few mags. We shall see what they do. Third Arsenal and first issue. The other two are flawless.
I’ve been meaning to do a review on mine. It’s from the first 2021 batch and was super over-gassed to the point where I had to switch out the FIME fcg because of the noticeably heavy trigger slap. Needless to say, a KNS adjustable piston or barrel chop is the remedy. You can watch the clip on my channel or IG and it still launches Wolf ammo into orbit with the port wide open. I’ve heard that Arsenal is coming up with a fix, but doubt they’ll accept mine after modding it to be an AR-M9 clone.
@saucyloadout what serial number range and/or configuration? 61? 62? 67? Obviously the firearms are the same, but it would help narrow down the import period. Thank you.
@@conorobrien2411 It has a “normal” wear pattern because I didn’t continue shooting it after the first sesh until I added the KNS. The problems I see are usually because people waited too long and kept adding to the round count instead of fixing the issue.
What is the lower handguard on the 7R? I expected it to be ARM1 furniture, but that taper on the rear of the lower HG looks different than I remember the ARM1 hg looking.
Just brought home the odg Sam5R a couple weeks ago and I don’t expect it to beat up the rear trunnion but will keep an eye on it. Worst case I could get that adjustable gas part I saw was available. Just have to see who makes it or If I have to send it back to Arsenal. My Sam7R-61 has never had any issues. Btw what picatinny rail system do you recommend to add a red dot?
Use a slow-mo camera to record your bolt while firing. If it hits all the way to the rear, it is overgassed. For reliability reasons, virtually all military style weapons are. On the flip side, most pistols are oversprung to prevent frame or slide impact damage. That’s why so many stovepipe.
Sorry, wrong channel for that kind of footage. Plus while it would give you an interesting video clip, scientifically, it wouldn't actually give much information. Basically, it would be a stunt. All firearms vibrate and get jarred around when fired. AGain, containing a vviolannt explosion inside.
@@misha5670 I’m liking what pioneer is doing with the 556 underfolders . No one is doing those oops did I say that! Anyways always love to listen to your side your the voice of reason in this community
@@sammythedwarf Yep, I say something to that effect towards the end of this video too. In a receiver where a double can easily be fitted? I like the doubles.
the original SA M-5/M-7 had the double hook triggers, but were 80% receivers finished in the United States, which avoided 922r bureaucracy. Current production SAM5/SAM7 have single hook triggers with FIME double stage triggers which are used by them across the board to comply with 922r.
Is there a lot of hype for the SAM5? Ok, straight talk, i actually don't watch a lot of gun videos on youtube. Guns are my job so when I want to relax, i watch other stuff. Usually history vids or fun sci-fi stuff.
@@misha5670 I have only seen positive to very positive videos on the SAM5, mrgunsngear and military arms channel both called the SAM5-94 the best 556 AK, and Brandon Herrera had an awesome video on beating the ammo ban with the SAM5. The black ones have full metal, the smoke ones have metal lugs. As to running reliably, you can just watch this video. NOthing was edited or trimmed out. One nice thing about having a blind guy doing the edits is you know shit like that isn't even possible lol.
purchased one of these, and its hands down the most over gassed rifle I have ever fired let alone own. It would send dented brass into the next county. Plus it came from Arsenal with the most canted sights on any AK I have ever purchased. I had to install a KNS piston to tame the over gassing issue. I ordered the right length but I purchased the S size head for small caliber. Even on full open letting off as much gas as I could, it was still horribly over gassed. I called KNS (great company with great customer service) and they said that the SAM5 is so over gassed you need the W size head for large caliber rifles to fix the over gassing issue. I had the head replaced and problem solved. Now the next problem, the really canted front sight. Even with the post pushed all the way to one side I still could not sight in the rifle because the sight was so badly canted. Once again KNS to the rescue with the adjustable rear peep sight that allowed me to move the windage even more to actually zero the rifle. After less than 250 rounds the wear on the rifle is very apparent. Yes AKs have canted sights, and yes they are usually over gassed, and they will wear the more you shoot them. However for 2K I expect a lot more then what I got.
Imagine spending $1800 or more on this thing and then buying mags that cost $50 a piece for this plain Jane rifle. Then learning it's shitting all over itself! My 107 and SAM7 have been great for me though!!!
Imagine spending $4.5k on a rifle with $100 mags, only to discover it was breaking bolts. That was what happened with the PTR-44 back in 2008. And 15 years ago, that was really really big money for a semi-auto gun too.
If the SAM5 is over-gassed it's more than likely because they drilled the wrong sized hole in the barrels. Probably used the drill bit for the 7.62 guns by mistake and didn't catch it or whoever made the mistake didn't want to own up to it. If that's the case, then the only way to correctly fix the guns is to re-barrel the guns. That will be expensive and time consuming for Arsenal. And that's why Arsenal will give BS answers to the customers. And try to buy time as they attempt to come up with a cheaper solution.
Yep, if it is a gas port issue, honestly the only practical thing for them to do is replace the firearm. At the very least, do a complete front end replacement.
On the short gas system SLR-107UR that had the full 16" barrels, Arsenal is said to have inserted a restrictor to limit the gas, and when you chop the barrel you have to remove it/drill it out. That seems to be a solution to oversize gas ports vs. rebarreling. One person appears to have gotten that fix on their rifle back from Arsenal, although it seemed to come back also with new damage to the stock. This is from an AKfiles thread.
Add a little spit on that cleaning kit Misha... Slides right on in! But, Jokes aside... I was kinda torn between the Sam-5 & the 5.56 FB Beryl. I'm pleased that picked up the Beryl on last February's drop.
I was a conscript in the Cuban army and I always encounter folks here in US saying that Soviet era weapons are the best...No they are not..Them weapons require more maintenance than US made weapons for sure, back then, the metallurgic process was way different than now days and the QC,compared to what US have thru the ages.
Weird how some definitely do have some abnormal wear on the rear of the receiver and bolt stem but others don’t. The fact that people have posted screenshots on AKfiles of Arsenal reps saying that Arsenal AD is working on a fix does seem to indicate that there is a legitimate issue with some of them. Oh well, I’m happy with mine and yours doesn’t look to have abnormal wear either. Happy New Year!
Its an interesting experience trying to do a review right before a New Years party lol. Towards the end there, we literally had guests lining up outside waiting on us to finish up already! lol
So I bought one of the first 500 imported, the word back then was a little overgassed. I also bought one mid 21 I believe #1700. Both the receivers look exactly the same and measure the same. Ive tried asking the dudes saying it’s a receiver issue to give me measurements but they never do. Ive seen pics of some bolts with moderate wear for low round counts. But no one ever continues to shoot to see if it stops or continues. Usually buy kns pistons and never see anymore updates but continue to spread the word on how bad they are. I think Reddit has definitely done it’s usual and overblown this issue and scared people. I think most of these dudes shoot decent powered brass with factory gas/suppressed and take pictures within first couple mags etc. if ya own one and are worried just buy a kns piston. Either the large bore or small bore. I have both depending on how over gassed/suppressor use/ammo etc..Always great guns but somehow we’ve let the prices get out of range and sometimes forget what AKs are.
Totally agree that mine could be considered a bit over-gassed, esp when firing fullhouse 62gr loads. Also agree that prices have gotten out of hand. Zero arguments there.
I talked with someone and yes, my '20's receiver seems to be cut the same as a later '21-'22 receiver. So i don't think the issue is with that part. That means it has to be gas port or recoil spring or maybe a too soft bolt stem?
Arsenal has gotten crazy bad at QC on the recent guns from what I’ve seen. I have a 2020 SLR107R that is literally crooked. The front sight is canted, the rear sight block is canted (shockingly still zeros, just at full left deflection), and the stock sits slightly crooked to the right. It is crooked with the factory stock, and a Zenitco PT-5. Luckily it shoots well, but Arsenal is getting out there based on my rifle and what I’m seeing here.
@@ghilliegoat7328 I have some old Arsenals. They are definitely very different. Even the older stamped guns seem a lot nicer than what’s currently available.
Spoke with a nice man today who just paid $2,700 for a SGL31...a fixed stock variant at that too. Before the new Beryls came in thanks to AoA, people were paying $3k+ for old IO Archers online. Sometimes, i just don't know about the market these days.
It just depends on how much you want a milled AK. Arsenal has a monopoly on production AKs with milled receivers. Your other option is custom builds which are even more coin.
I had the chance to shoot one of the "good" ones, and I wasn't exactly impressed. Recoil still felt violent, seemed worse than a 7.62 to me. The finish also felt...cheap? Maybe because it's paint over park? It was reliable tho, and as accurate as I could make it (which admittedly isn't really a good test).
the point of ak is that its supposed to be 100 times cheaper than the 5.56 weapon. arsenal sam5 costing 5 times more than the 5.56 equivalent with 2000 dollars means that they've lost the plot. or its some usa tariff thing
A lot of the " issues " I've noticed are posts by relatively new users of the Kalashnikov. Arsenals are touted to be the bees knees and trust me. They are. From what I've seen with the wear patterns and deformation on the carrier tails and rear of the reciever. This is normal wear for an Arsenal ARM. I've owned seven ARMs from (10) within 100 rounds the carrier tail WILL deform untill it reaches the hardened point of the tail. This is a given, across the board for every ARM. The rear of the reciever will reflect this wear. It scares a lot of new users, such as it did myself. I purchased a Zpap and put nearly 7000 rounds through it before the tail had any major wear or deformation. My first arsenal after 100rds and disassembly I nearly shat myself in disbelief that a $1500+ AK can wear like that. 5000 rounds later on the same rifle it has not shown any excessive wear or any new wear. It wears itself in very fast, nearly immediately and then continues to run forever. I've only actually seen TWO confirmed posts with cracked bolts. Yes that is terrible. But possible from any manufacturer, it's just disappointing due to the cost of the rifle but I'd tell you that if you had the same problem with a WASR-10 You'd still be equally disappointed. Which wasr -10s have had a much rougher history than arsenal imports in the USA. I wouldn't even conclude there is a bad batch that exists. I'd say just a handful have slipped through the MPI, if one department exists for Arsenal. I say a handful because there's only TWO confirmed to shiz the bed.
I’ve seen quite a few with deformed bolts, not bolt carrier tails. I agree that bolt carrier tail deformation is a non issue. However, the issue is that the bolt itself is deforming and then eventually is unable to move within the carrier to the degree that the function is effected. I have AKs in the 5 digit round counts that have less wear and deformation than my SAM5 does in less than 500 rounds. There’s absolutely something wrong with these SAM5. Mine is gassed so hard that the recoil spring assembly gets essentially staked into place by deformed receiver material after a few magazines fired and requires considerable force to remove. Not sure why you’re trying to gaslight dudes who spent $2k on a rifle and have run into significant problems with it. As for Misha’s rifle seeming to be fine, there are far more reports of 2021 and 2022 rifles having problems than of 2020 rifles, so I’m not sure why he made a video saying what most of us already know.

No, shock is still being transferred to the shooter causing unnecessary recoil. And even more than normal because it’s slamming into the rear sooner. Also you’re more likely to have ripped case heads with over gassing. You also can’t easily suppressed a gun violently over gassed.
One reason you don't see me personally with a lot of new AKs in recent years. I'll still pick one up from time to time, but it has to be something special. Back 20 years ago, I bought some out of simple boredum; they were that inexpensive.

Can you explain the wear patterns? I saw a video where this guy was upset because his Paint/finish was starting to peel off like dry erase marker
What KNS piston model did you go with 20L or 20S?
I appreciate your help 🙏

@@smoothshot8925 it's about regulating the gas pressure to run the weaker .223 steel case all the way up to the hottest 5.56 with a can on and have the ability to tune how you want it to cycle.

@@misha5670 I’ve had issues with Arsenals customer service in the past, figured I’d give time another try with the sam5, lesson learned.
@@GrippinTheGauge206 absolutely!
The peening found on carrier tail is usually from an overly hardened hammer(which is why so many people had problems with peening and tapco triggers)
The only problem I've seen online with newer SAM5s has to do with the rear receiver having the circular cut(which is unique to bulgarian made milled 556 guns)which looks like it was attempt to avoid bolt contact but instead is a little under cut so the left and right edges of the bolt gets peened when a rifle is severely over-gassed.
That was why i said take it however you want. I can't verify things, only pass along the message. I spoke with them Friday morning on the phone, and we recorded this video Saturday afternoon. Inexplicably frozen muzzle devices and front sight posts that require a torch and breaker bar to move. Bad customer service. Horrible dishonest business practices. Not to mention proprietary small parts which have been completely unobtainable for years. Obscenely overpriced for the product and experience you get.

It would be interesting to see the gas port size in the barrel on a Sam 5 vs. a Beryl
Also the part everyone on Reddit is showing getting massively deformed as the rear part of the bolt not the tail of the carrier.

@@SaucyLoadout great (sarcastic) should this be expected on all 61's or is this specific to a certain range in the serial numbers?
Yes, firing comparison Sam5 and the Sam5-RPK! Is there a folding stock version of the Sam5? Under or side folder?
Not as a semi-auto, not at this time.

A lot of people are willing to hype these up, not a lot of channels critically looking at the product as a whole. Keep up the good work Mishi
Is there a lot of hype for the SAM5? Ok, straight talk, i actually don't watch a lot of gun videos on youtube. Guns are my job so when I want to relax, i watch other stuff. Usually history vids or fun sci-fi stuff.
@@misha5670 I have only seen positive to very positive videos on the SAM5, mrgunsngear and military arms channel both called the SAM5-94 the best 556 AK, and Brandon Herrera had an awesome video on beating the ammo ban with the SAM5. purchased one of these, and its hands down the most over gassed rifle I have ever fired let alone own.
Damn dude u cry harder than any girl i know that i see shooting this gun like every weekend lol
No ak should ship with a canted sight imo
Mishaco Get some steel targets. Im interested in seeing your spacial awareness and bet you could ring some steel! Happy new year
Imagine spending $1800 or more on this thing and then buying mags that cost $50 a piece for this plain Jane rifle.
Own the same 2 rifles, and love'm both.
Agreed.
This is me😢lol I’m sending back mine to Arsenal for a replacement I guess. Kinda bummed because i truly love it
@@AMx39 dang, sorry man.
Delighted I bought the SAM7 instead.
I sure do like my SAM7 too. Just a solid old AK.
Hmm I wonder if this is true. Sure makes sense
So I'm wrong handed, & get alot of gas in the face.
Recoil is more than a mini 14 but not much. No gas in the face with a rak74.
Any thoughts sensei?
Two different calibers. 5.56 AKs have always been gassier than a family after all you can eat bean burito night.
Add a little spit on that cleaning kit Misha... Slides right on in!
But, Jokes aside... I was kinda torn between the Sam-5 & the 5.56 FB Beryl. I'm pleased that picked up the Beryl on last February's drop.
Unfortunately, there are those unhappy with the Beryl online too. But just my opinion? The Beryl is the best 5.56 AK on the US market.
Oooooooooh he addressed it!
I was a conscript in the Cuban army and I always encounter folks here in US saying that Soviet era weapons are the best...No they are not..Them weapons require more maintenance than US made weapons for sure, back then, the metallurgic process was way different than now days and the QC,compared to what US have thru the ages.
No not even close about maintence.
Good rifle control!
It's pretty neat that Arsenal offers different colored stock configurations for those of us who get tired of just black guns.
Anyone have a line on circle 10 556 Ak mags?
Arsenal SAM5 doesn’t know failure! Possibly my favorite of recent acquisitions,,, 👍🏻
What year is yours made? Getting one, I am new to guns (kinda) and wondering if I’ll have to worry about the overgassing.
Mine definitely has wear but yeah, nothing I would consider strange for a rifle owned for over 2 years and taken to the range 4-5 times.
Cool 😎

Buy the big kns piston for Arsenal .223 AKs. I opened the small one all the way and it still wasn't enough. These things are heavily overgassed.
Even the older stamped guns seem a lot nicer than what’s currently available.
i didnt see a rifle with issues. i saw a rifle singinnnnn. rippin, just gettin r done .
Arsenal AKs are not worth what they want for them these days.
Yep, the finish on my old SA M-5 and my current sA RPK-5 are both nicer than that on my SAM5-61.
the point of ak is that its supposed to be 100 times cheaper than the 5.56 weapon. arsenal sam5 costing 5 times more than the 5.56 equivalent with 2000 dollars means that they've lost the plot. or its some usa tariff thing
what ever happen to the ak20?

I have quite a few AKs with high round counts and they are not showing the same amount of damage that I am seeing on SAM5 rifles with alleged sub 1000 rounds.
@@davidbecker2794 do you own an arsenal ARM?

@@timothycain4512 I’m far from a new AK buyer. I’ve been buying and shooting AKs since the late 1990s. No, shock is still being transferred to the shooter causing unnecessary recoil. And even more than normal because it’s slamming into the rear sooner. Also you’re more likely to have ripped case heads with over gassing. You also can’t easily suppressed a gun violently over gassed.
