Same in fact any issues I've heard of can be attributed to early feed ramp geometry and or magazine issues associated with mixing different cartridges in the same mag or not using circle ten magazines.
Another great video Misha. I'm surprised that you picked the Saiga, Vepr and Arsenal as top, specially when none of those were "military certified" and were mostly designed for export commercial sales. Certainly surprised on the Beryl, which I would think it would be top considering it's designed for its military. I would have also thought the Zastava M85 PB also would have been up there as well because of its nature.

Congrats!! I really like mine. BTW, The Polish Beryl mags (green ones) work very well and are cheaper (about $34 each) than the Bulgarian circle 10 mags (and strangely enough, I bought a couple of bad ones - frustrating at nearly $50 each).
Great content, I thought for sure you would have a converted 223 Saiga on the table. I picked one up around the time of the embargo and it really surprised me how reliable and accurate it is. So do you think with the introduction of the Mini Beryl a rifle length will follow and be reintroduced to the US market?
I've never had much interest in converted Saigas. I mostly stick to military style semi-autos. If KUSA ever does an AK101 clone, I'd grab that. Until then, my SLR106CR will ahve to do.
Just finished Saiga 223 conversion and I agree surprised me how reliable and accurate this great shooter is. These are manufactured in military factories too. Probably my favorite ak in 223....
Are you sure? That's a lot of faith to put into a product that isn't even available yet. What if it fails an AKOU test or some issues pop up? Basically I am saying give it a fair chance and don't prejudge it to be the greatest thing ever
It seems silly to me to already declare their 5.56 AK (which we have no idea when it will ever come out, or where it even is in development) which doesn't exist yet to be a success. Even their newest release of the AK-E hasn't really been out long enough to prove whether it's good to go or not. Rob's test is a start, but his C39 and VSKA passed too, yet those are still correctly recognized as junk. I have concerns about PSA's quality control, having seen more than a few issues with GF3s and even AKEs both online and in person when transfers come through at the gun shop I work at. Particularly, the bent, rigid pistons that PSA was caught red handed lying about being called for by Soviet manuals. I want to wait and see how the AK-E and their other products to come out do, but I just don't understand them being hailed as God's gift to the AK world. They've had a pretty dismal track record and have been given many chances. They're still unproven and likely will remain unproven for at least several years. Building a 5.56 AK is a significantly different animal than 7.62 guns. There are so many differences. Judging just based on PSA's history, their 5.56 AKs very well may have issues that need to be resolved.
@@BoogalooBoy I think PSA has made some good will for themselves when they can admit a mistake and then fix it without any BS...they have my attention...I bought some lowers from them along with some of their BCGs and was impressed with their product...I paired the lowers with some Brownells uppers and the fit is insanely tight!!
Most guns from Century avoid the stain coming off the wood by not staining it at all. As for FCG pin walking out, the solution is super difficult & super costly....a $3 retaining plate; takes 5 minutes to install lol. There are legit criticisms and then there are ones i think people make just to fill airtime, know what I mean?
I love 5.56 ak type rifles as well as the Galils. The only downside is that no US manufacturer has never get much attention for the 5.56 ak to like manufacture 5.56 mags, so we depend on import mags and they are expensive. I bet if there were plenty of 5.56 mags made in land, that would be another great story because I would choose the 5.56 Ak over an AR any day.
Thing is there are so many other 5.56 cal guns out there that they have to compete against: SIG/SAN guns, 805 & Bren 2, ARX, Tavor/X95, AUG, the several KELTEC offerings, and on & on. Its a big market but it is pretty well divided up now.
@@misha5670 wow thank you for your reply Misha. That's right. Didn't think about the other 5.56 that 5.56 ak is compiting for. Tough Market right now. :(
Question about the Romanian in 223 you mentioned the wieger mag wasn't that originally a German build magazine? I was always wondering cuz if you find them for sale online you'll notice you'll run into both advertise as a German magazine and some show Romanian.
5:10 - Not really, no 5.56 guns were adopted at all by anyone. Small numbers (single digits) of more recent patterns were tested in the field, but that's about it. The SIG 551L, G36C, and M4A1 were adopted by a few units. The Champion is also a Draco (11.25 inch), not a PM90 (11.75 inch) pattern. The 5.45 shorties (not adopted) made by the factory around, I think, 1994 introduced the shorter Draco system. The later 5.56 guns and the commercial Draco adopted it in 1997, when they began civilian sales.
Puffgun Russian 556 mags fit in the 106 and run perfectly. They are $25 a peice and reinforced all around. The base plates are polymer that's my only gripe.
Love my aims74 and Bulgarian ak74 5.56 builds. I didn’t like my bwk-92 and sold it. It was accurate but seemed way over gas’d. Maybe it just had a weak recoil spring from being old? I sold it at the height of the 2016 pres scare for a lot of bones. I’m debating on building a 5.56 kit from AOA but I’m waiting for barrels to come in. Thanks!
Im told Arsenal Bulgarian AK ( SLR106) are using AKM (7.62x39) Bolt Carriers with a Modified Bolt for JUST 556. Im looking to swap out my SLR106 semi auto bolt carrier for one with a sear trip. Of Course all laws are going to be followed and no illegal actions are going to take place with the FA/BC, but Im wondering if my SLR106 bolt and rifle are going to work with an AKM Bolt Carrier just fine or whether Im Going to have issues with it. Im told the SLR106s have a bolt with a stem too large for the AK74 pattern Bolt Carriers. Any info would be great.
I'm holding out hope that maybe, just maybe, FB Radom will be pleased with the Mini Beryl's reception (and hopefully success) in the US, and this will make FB interested in giving us another chance with the full size rifles, except this time imported by Arms of America. I certainly won't be holding my breath, but wouldn't it be nice? The only reason I didn't pick up an Archer when they were available was because I was skeptical of IO's conversion job.
Yep, wouldn't that be nice eh? I will say there was never any legal issues with importing more Archers/Beryl semi-autos. Back when Radom-USA blamed the ATF for their guns not coming in...well to be blunt, that was Radom-USA lieing and putting the blame for their poor decisions on someone else. I hate buck-passing shit like that.
@@misha5670 Yup, Radom-USA was quite a blunder. Fortunately Arms of America has a much better track record. I hope FB's taste isn't too soured by the American market, but the Mini Beryl is a sliver of hope that maybe it isn't. Only time will tell. In the mean time I will probably get a Mini Beryl, but my luck with Krink-type AKs is like Jay's luck with FALs. I really would prefer a full size rifle, but maybe the Mini Beryl will be different from my past experiences.
I wish I had you for a history teacher Misha. I love my 106u with the SB3. Can e.german 74 bakelite mags convert to 5.56 for a 84s-1 seeing how mags are ridiculously expensive for it?
From my experience, the most reliable and easy to configure is a Bulgarian 74 parts kit conversion. Why? Because it literally runs all ammo (even out of spec Golden Tiger 223 that was made using 5.45 primers lol). I've fed it Circle 10, Beryl, and Russian 5.56 mags flawlessly. I love my Saiga, but the front trunnion needed modification to accept Bulgy/Polish mags. The SLR-106 is mostly reliable, but is a little more finicky with cheap ammo, which I suspect is because of its spring loaded firing pin.
Ohh and Canis Deign Group also makes an AR MAGAzine well adapter for stamped 5.56 AKs that features a last round bolt hold open and either a AR or AK handle mount.
Hi Misha, how often does Atlantic get a small number of ak74 parts kits for them to build and sell? A small handful of them went up today, but I'm guessing it was only about 4-5 at most.
It was more than that. Atlantic tends to only list stuff if they ahve at least 20-25 minimum. Otherwise, its not worth the time/effort, know what I mean? When i got my CETME-LC, i had to act fast before those sold out too.
@@AKS-74U Ended up buying the Zastava M92 pistol, after they started chrome lining the barrels it was an easy choice. Since the M92 is in 7.62x39 I still have room in my collection for for a 5.56mm AK.
one thing i never understood is why the older m85s were chrome lined by m92s weren't. Always heard Yugoslavia didn't have chromium domestically and thats why they didnt chrome the bores.
That thing about Zastava not having access to chrome deposites has pretty much been debunked. Its a traditional rumour & I heard it often back in the day, so i know where you are coming from there. I think they decided not to do it on their X39 guns but by the time they were designing their 5.56 guns 2 decades later, minds had changed. It could also be that 5.56 is a much higher velocity round, so the CL helps preserve the rifling longer? Its just how they roll...at least until the new ZPAP M70 that is.
Not much, never owned one. Imported from Cugir, Romania by I.O. Its basically an M10 or RH10 before either existed. So good core gun, though the US furniture I.O. put on them mostly sucked.
Initial opinion on them is they are good to go. Seem basically as well made as the FB ones. That said, with all respect to WBP, i'd still pick the FB mags over their's but just for range mags and to try out? sure grab a few WBPs and try them out for yourself.
That LM5 is a beaut! Was it a parts kit build? I wasn't aware that LM4/5's were ever imported. I've been trying to track down a R4 or R5 parts kit but no dice. All I ever find are parts and pieces here and there. Might have to piecemeal one eventually.
If you request one in the $5 patreon section, we would do our best but honestly w/o any of those guns in the USA, it would ahve to be mostly a voice-over with a slide show.
Agreed, 'properly' being the key word there too. I've seen way too many hack-job Saiga conversions over the years. So I am always a bit scared when i hear of something at first.
I scored A virgin one from a pawn shop for 400 bucks and I tore it all the way down to the receiver and barrel debating on taking it to the next build class that Jim Fuller is going to do now that he’s here in Arizona or just sending it out to a professional shop to have it converted
So I have a 106 and the Saiga I want them to use the Arsenal magazines and the Polish magazine pattern what other 556AK is take that pattern of magazine ?
I have 2 AK's 1 of them is a saiga and 4 AR'S in 762X39 but I dont really like 556 223 only 3 AR's in 556 most in big bore 450 458 50 why have 223 when you can have 224 and shoot 1000 yards AK is fine 762x39 just my opinion
The ways things have been going for firearms up there lately, just move down ehre and have all the AKs you want. Then again, you'd have to deal with our crappy healthcare system, so its up to you which is worse? lol

Back when, say 2011-2013, Century modified some Saiga-223s to feed from Galil mags.
@@misha5670 steel mags?
I don't remember that.
I know the tapco galil mags are supposed to work in a .223 saiga if you have a feed ramp installed.
Never had any to try out tho.
Is a norinco bwk92 in 556 worth 1200, one for sale around me. Don’t know very much about Chinese ak’s but i know the value can’t go down because of the import ban
Just pulled the trigger on a 106ur, been wanting a legit import “krink” forever, this way I don’t have to add another caliber to my rotation lol. Thanks for another great video fellas!
Congrats!! I really like mine. BTW, The Polish Beryl mags (green ones) work very well and are cheaper (about $34 each) than the Bulgarian circle 10 mags (and strangely enough, I bought a couple of bad ones - frustrating at nearly $50 each).
I'm excited for Kusa KR 101
Brought a new problem out with these guns That they are mag specific thanks misha I have ordered one but looks like I’ll have to keep them separate
Thanks Misha!! Great video.
Wheres the Vepr or Saiga?
The PSA AK-556 is really gunna make a 5.56 stanag AK mainstream, good on em for that.
Are you sure? That's a lot of faith to put into a product that isn't even available yet. What if it fails an AKOU test or some issues pop up? Basically I am saying give it a fair chance and don't prejudge it to be the greatest thing ever
@@misha5670 They'll take care of the issue, Military Arms Channel had issues with the AKV-9, they revised it.
What issue will they take care of?
@@BoogalooBoy I think PSA has made some good will for themselves when they can admit a mistake and then fix it without any BS...they have my attention...I bought some lowers from them along with some of their BCGs and was impressed with their product...I paired the lowers with some Brownells uppers and the fit is insanely tight!!
Wish you spent some time talking about the old Chinese 223 AKs like the Polytech. Still a great video!
There's a new Zastava ZPAP 5.56 AK pistol with a 10'' barrel I've been seeing and am being tempted by...
Great Video, just bought a Zestava M-90 what trigger do you recommend
The Serbian trigger isn’t that bad actually.
But if you don’t like it the ALG trigger is king of the hill
Question about the Romanian in 223 you mentioned the wieger mag wasn't that originally a German build magazine? I was always wondering cuz if you find them for sale online you'll notice you'll run into both advertise as a German magazine and some show Romanian.
Picked up a saiga 223/556 for cheap around 2011
Where can I find these
Love my aims74 and Bulgarian ak74 5.56 builds. Thanks!
Are the bolts and/or carriers interchangeable between the Beryl and the SLR106?
So the galils receiver is what throws you off the most I bet. The Galil ace gen 1 is kinda like Beryl, sam5/7 and valmet all in 1. Those are all AK's.
Will the yugo 556 ak mags also fit in the arsenal SLR-106u?
Picked up a ZPap85/M85, whatever you want to call it.
Cant decide if I want to SBR it or just run a brace off the rail.
You know your AKs that is for sure and I thank you for the tutaorials
Im told Arsenal Bulgarian AK ( SLR106) are using AKM (7.62x39) Bolt Carriers with a Modified Bolt for JUST 556. Im looking to swap out my SLR106 semi auto bolt carrier for one with a sear trip. Of Course all laws are going to be followed and no illegal actions are going to take place with the FA/BC, but Im wondering if my SLR106 bolt and rifle are going to work with an AKM Bolt Carrier just fine or whether Im
Going to have issues with it. Im told the SLR106s have a bolt with a stem too large for the AK74 pattern Bolt Carriers. Any info would be great.
I need mags for my Norinco 84s but I cant afford the 150.00 factory mags. What is the best mag for the 84 other than the factory?
Please can you answer this sir.... is there anyway possible to convert an ak74 mag to function properly in the slr 106???
Damn there is a Chinese one that’s on gun broker right now that comes with 14 mags ... very tempting
Rosscoeginncoe Lake Havasu & Orange County sweet a 556 underfokder sounds like a great combo, if you type “84s” it’s close to the top for me at least
Any idea which other ak 556 variants mags will fit in a Rare Romanian AK47 PAR-3 Pump Action 556 Rifle?
I wish I had you for a history teacher Misha. I love my 106u with the SB3. Can e.german 74 bakelite mags convert to 5.56 for a 84s-1 seeing how mags are ridiculously expensive for it?
Hi Misha , do Tantal hand gaurds ( upper and lower ) fit the Beryl , just a thought .
yep
@@misha5670 As always , succinct . Thank you .
Misha, excellence! Thank you again!
I love the videos man, I learn something new everytime
PSA is supposed to be coming out with a really nice 5.56 AK w/ adjustable gas block for runnin suppressors, and takes AR15 MAGAzines. Sould be nice.
Why should or shouldn't it be nice? It isn't out yet, so truth is we don't know anything much yet.
@@misha5670 Makes sense. Luckily I was able to snag one before the notification email went out. The ak74 and the zpaps sold out as soon as it did.
Misha, I am really falling for the M85 from Zastava, do you think I should go for it or wait on the Polish 5.56mm?
Wait on the Polish; which is pretty much exactly how i end this video recommending.
Misha Thanks! I ask because it seems like the M85 also had a lot of development like the Polish 5.56mm.
The only acceptable answer is both.
@@AKS-74U Ended up buying the Zastava M92 pistol, after they started chrome lining the barrels it was an easy choice.
Since the M92 is in 7.62x39 I still have room in my collection for for a 5.56mm AK.
YO! I swear I have to re-subscribe to your channel everytime I log back into youtube!!!! Keep rocking Misha
one thing i never understood is why the older m85s were chrome lined by m92s weren't.
Misha, your thoughts on the STG 2003c?
Not much, never owned one. Imported from Cugir, Romania by I.O. Its basically an M10 or RH10 before either existed. So good core gun, though the US furniture I.O. put on them mostly sucked.
Misha, I saw that WBP has a .223 Mag similar to the FB Radom mags. Do you know anything about them?
I saw those too. They are reasonably priced
Initial opinion on them is they are good to go. Seem basically as well made as the FB ones. That said, with all respect to WBP, i'd still pick the FB mags over their's but just for range mags and to try out? sure grab a few WBPs and try them out for yourself.
Thanks

That LM5 is a beaut! Was it a parts kit build? I wasn't aware that LM4/5's were ever imported. I've been trying to track down a R4 or R5 parts kit but no dice. All I ever find are parts and pieces here and there. Might have to piecemeal one eventually.

Can you do video on MSBS?
If you request one in the $5 patreon section, we would do our best but honestly w/o any of those guns in the USA, it would ahve to be mostly a voice-over with a slide show.
5.56x45 ak's > 7.62x39 ar's
So what about SAIGA 223 rifles ?
What about them?
The Beryl/Archer? lol couldn't resist. Serious answer? VEPRs in .223 also take Beryl mags w/o mods, at least my old VEPR 1V ran with them flawlessly.
Now i need all the 556 ak's.
Nah, just get a Beryl type, and a couple Arsenals....and a Zastava M90 if those ever come back. Do that and you'll be pretty gtg.
