I totally think I have ADHD. My husband’s work did a seminar on the spectrum of autism and adhd and I ticked almost all of the boxes for adhd on the handout he came home with. Incredibly messy, hyperfocussed, lose interest quick, 25 tabs open - yep lol. Thank you for the realness, you’re inspiring ❤

Hii! Yes! Honestly it can be exhausting living in my mind 24/7 🥲 it’s crazy how much I didn’t realize that not ALL people experience the same thing I do!

I am diagnosed and have medication for ADHD and also run a small business. The "why can't I" stream of frustration is truly a symptom. Also dysregulated eating, suppressed stimming (foot wiggling, wringing hands, chewing on ends of pencils/pens, twisting rings around your fingers, tapping fingers/pencils/objects against surfaces, swaying when you're standing), lack of ability to control blurting especially in conversations and more.
I've found as a business owner spending time controlling my ideas and not spending unnecessary money is important. I've found dice lists help haha planners are also an ADHD problem (as in we want one, we love them, we SUCK at using them). The dice list is a list of major and minor tasks and you roll a 20 side dice to see WHICH one you're doing. There's something about writing the list, noting major and minor(and having only 2-3 major ones on the list each day) and then doing the dice that is entertaining enough without also the whole-picture problem of knowing EVERY little thing that must be done at once which is overwhelming because you wrote down what you wanted to do that day.
Also as ADHD our brains don't work in a linear way which means even while we are doing the task we have to continue to tell ourselves the entire time to do the task - and this is the same for little tiny things like brushing out teeth, putting clothes in the hamper, putting on socks, etc. We have to actually TELL ourselves to do it which when I found that people without ADHD don't have to do this was shocking.

A few minutes into the video and want to say Us ADHDs need to be creative but our minds are so cluttered ❤ I resonate with you. I struggle to focus. My mind has 50 tabs open at once 😅

I was diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago and it’s been so difficult to stick to one craft because they tend to become a huge hyperfocus for me! I ran a small business making handmade clothes for 2 years and couldn’t believe I had stuck with something for so long! Then I got burned out and I’m now planning to open a candle business when I move to the US! Hope this one sticks 🤞🏻

I was diagnosed about a decade ago in my early 20s. I remember how it was just such a relief to find out it wasn’t all in my head. I’ve developed coping skills over time and medication does help, but I’ll be the first to say it’s an ongoing struggle with or without a formal diagnosis. I think you’re on the right track in just using ADHD as a framework for better understanding yourself and how to function at your highest potential 😊

To be honest, I think it's just the "Creative Curse." Meaning your mind functions a different way when you're a creative person. Totally different spectrum when someone has left brain thinking. Also, how can someone make an assessment of you when you're only putting up videos of the task in making candles and business development? You have to juggle a bit more tasks on your videos to make that conclusion. Imagine being a a singing guitar player, is that a sign of ADHD? NO, YOU'RE MULTITASKING!!!! Don't let anyone kill your vibe girl, you're doing GREAT! YOU bring the joy of candle making to people who are just starting out, like myself. ❤

This is 100% me. It's only 10.30 in the morning and I've moved on from the original task 4 times already to something completely unrelated! I've never suspected it was ADHD, just blamed my poor attention span.

I use Clickup to track my tasks, I currently have over 100 tasks I need to complete and I keep starting one, half finishing it and moving onto the next lol

Oh this sounds like me especially since my daughter finish her formal education. The routine saved me. Now i feel scrambled. Classic is I write a list of things I need to get done over the course of a day, only to come to the end of the day, 2 tasks done. Then I say to myself, where did the time go?!

I recently had it brought to my attention that with my therapist that I may be ADHD. I thought back on childhood, and it's always been there, but in the 90s, that was not a thing. I just know that I have a condition. It's a challenge and we have tools to help. I'm hoping candle making doesn't become another thing I don't see through. Having someone to center you is great. I have some help with that. My child is a young adult now, so that's when I realized that I, like my son who was diagnosed at 6, may be too ADHD as well. When your child is more independent, it comes back.

Girl i feel you! I see a psychiatrist to keep my mental health in check and she did a quick assessment on me and she said i have adhd borderline, which makes total sense too me. Adds to my anxiety yay lol but I pretty much already knew but it nice to understand it a bit more. Alot of it for me is controlling minimal things like I been doing it so long dont realize I did it. I get it girl! you are doing great! 💗

Wow!! You describe me to a T. The only way I can get through and complete taste is to make lists and complete tasks. I like to blame it on having kids but they are older now and not as demanding. It is a real struggle and I think it is a huge obstacle to launching a business. Thank you for sharing as it helps tremendously to know I’m not alone in the struggle.

How long did it take you to pull together your Etsy site? I know it's an ongoing labor of love. But for your initial launch how long did it take you? Did you do it while simultaneously selling candles or did you wait to sell your first candle until after you launched your Etsy site?

Hi Erica, I understand your brain so well! 😆 It is like living with 100 browsers open!
In my childhood I was always in trouble for talking in class. Fast forward to having 3 children within 4 years by age 26. I would agree with you that being a Mom and SAHM one was a good thing for my brain. I was very organized. Boys are typically at higher risk to have it. But, in my family it is all the girls, including my own daughter. When my kids were in Middle School/High School I started work in their High School as a paraprofessional in special ed (resource room) and general ed classes. That is when I really started thinking I was ADHD. I could relate so well to some of the kids with the same diagnosis.
Fast forward to 2014 when I had an acute stroke at age 50. In 2017 I asked if they could text me for ADD (and what skills I had lost from the stroke)...long story short I had it and I was not surprised. I would encourage you to get a diagnosis simply because you have a son and it just helps with other resources out there for you.
I suggest lists - but keep it super simple. No more then 5 items for the entire day. If you do more great. Also, since my stroke I have found I need to chant things in my head about 5 times to remember. Numbers are a problem for me - I guess that is also an ADD thing. Hope this helps you!
