Here I am doing literally everything including designing, printing, cutting, and adhering my own labels to my candles which of course I do everything from scratch and I’m at the point in the video where you’re talking about not doing absolutely everything and outsourcing 👀 😅 I’ll admit that it’s a lot, all the little details add up quickly. Not to even mention product photography, editing, and uploading to my site. I also struggle with perfectionism so this is something I definitely need to hear as I’m terrified of launching and having people not like my creations but your words are gold and I’ll get to pull the trigger. 🙌🏼
I think one important thing to remember is that you are creating your product for a target market. Not everyone. The faster you realize not everyone will like your product BuT the important people who you create for, the better you will feel about the product you offer to your Niche 😊 💕
Im still in the "poor" stage and outsourcing would be wonderful...but I'm not there yet and may not be for a while. I was not expecting to move to working with a new wax so soon. What I've found after wicking 120 jars the other day, is how much longer it took. There's just so much to do and I feel like the holidays are pretty much here. I'm thinking of adding other things with the business in order to help, to grow the candle side and maybe start paying myself in the near future. I can absolutely relate with being a control freak. Like.. this is a thing as a business owner, that we started. There's a lot of pride in it. It is difficult to hand something like that over.. it's like handing over a whole portion of your life. It is necessary, but difficult. Love the podcast style and I look forward to more in the future. To anyone reading who is thinking of starting there own business. My advice is to start. Just start. It does NOT need to be perfect; because as your business grows, you will grow with it. Your products will get better, your process will get better, you will get better. It will create more time as you are growing and before you know it, you'll be where you are trying to go. Take it from a guy who sells candles out of his backpack 🎒 and no "live" website yet. People will support you. Don't let fear get in the way. You've got this. Are you ready?... Get set... ..........Go.
Erica, I’m absolutely loving this podcast. I relate to these topics so much!! After 2 years of experimenting I finally got out of my own way and sold my first candle this week!! Thank you for all your guidance and for always being so down to earth.
Hi there, I've been experimenting for about a year now , and I was about to give up , your comment brought me hope again to continue trying , thank you
Honestly, sometimes when I am watching your videos I am feeling like I am in a self reflecting therapy session. And I mean that as a compliment! I am an introvert who is suffering in an office job where I have to deal with 60 other people around me and I had so much doubt in starting my own business due to social media and stuff but listening to you helps me find the strength inside to just take that step and go for it. Please go on doing what you're doing and please don't change. You're not only bringing knowledge based on experience but also showing that even if you're a little scared it's worth it going ahead. THANK YOU ❤

I watch lots of videos on Candle making but your authenticity and vulnerability resonates in a way that makes me feel like I’m not alone. I feel like …yeah I can do this too ☺️ thank you so much 🤗

Great stuff! Yes, my biggest creative spark that makes this so worthwhile is making things that people love! I have a question and I may have missed it in your video - Do you wish you would have known to start your business on Etsy or take other avenues when first starting out? Logically, it makes sense to me to go on Etsy and start advertising on there compared to an organic website. Without your RUclips audience, do you think your own website would have been as successful without that base built up? I don't have that base, so Etsy makes the most sense. I also think getting out there in your local community and showing your stuff at markets, craft events and bringing a few candles to local small businesses that relate to candles, beauty, etc., makes a lot of sense. I have done none of those things yet, because I am stuck on which candle vessel is unique for my Farmhouse Themed Candle and beauty line. I know if I look and smell like everyone else, I fail! How do the big businesses get a customized candle vessel made in USA (my goal) that is unique to just them? It takes either lot's of money upfront or lot's of creativity! Do you agree?
Hi! These are such great questions! Firstly, I agree with you that I feel that my youtube audience in the beginning (I believe I had around 3-5 thousand subscribers at the time) gave me a base when I first opened my etsy shop. I think it's a great place to start! However I also know other candle business owners that started on their own website and they are doing very well because they spent A LOT of time building up a local audience. That's why I think starting local is one of the best things that you can do as a small business owner! That can be very difficult and I agree with you that it can be a lot of money upfront in the beginning to do something like that. It may be better to start off with other vessels, and then once you get some traction you can invest in more unique USA made vessels. ❤️
Hi Erica, I started my candle company about a year and a half ago. I've recently started thinking it's time to slow down or stop making candles etc. The reason being is that I'm not making enough sales or getting enough clout or hype to keep it going. Should I still get a lawyer and tax professional even before I even started experimenting?
No I don’t think it’s necessary to do that while you’re just experimenting and testing different supplies.
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo thank you

This was such a great video! Thank you! 🫶🏼 I’ve been stuck in this phase for a little over a year now but all your advice is really inspiring me to keep pushing forward. I would love to learn more about the legal requirements before launch or before doing a first farmers/flea market.
