I've realized that being able to change is a necessity. I had a candle business back in late 80's and thru the 90's. I have decided to start it back up and was surprised how so much has changed. Back then it was so simple. The choices there are out there are outrageous. From waxes to wicks and even the scent formulas. You can't let change overwhelm you. Go with the flow. Just do it and run with it.
What a great podcast, Erica! Thank you so much. I really appreciate you. This is such great content for us to all think about when either starting out or for those who are already in business.
Love these videos, thank you so much for providing all of this information! Where is the small tool from that you’re using to ensure that you’re always filling the jar to the same height? Such a great idea!
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo Thank you so much, that’s so helpful! Also just wanted to mention - I was checking out your Shopify referral link earlier today but unfortunately it doesn’t work anymore!
Hi, my 4th grade son wants to start a small candle business. He chose to use beeswax in a 2.5-inch diameter by 1.5-inch height. Because he wanted a local source, we got hemp wick from northern california and beeswax from the bay area. We have done burn tests and can't figure iut the ideal wick size. Any recommendations for wicks? He is going pure beewax as he is try to be eco friendly, sustainable and supporting local businesses. Any advice is appreciated.
Hello, love all you do to help. What is your go to wax? I’ve tried Joy Wax, Problend 650, Soy 444, Palm 2, pillar of bliss, paraffin from flaming candles. I use premier and cd wicks. Just not getting a good fit yet. 😢
Anywhere from 100-200 candles, depending on the vessel size ☺️ we have a small production space though, and I know he could make probably triple that in a bigger space in a day!
Hello! I love your videos. Sometimes I feel a little bit overwhelmed with making candles. I'm wondering how many candles do you actually need on opening day of your business? I'm making candles & wax melts. Do I need to have 50 -100 , 100-200? I have no idea. Thank you in advance
Yes I think the additional 10-20% is to account for labor and also to make some room for discounts! I know there’s probably a very calculated way to account for labor but I just keep it simple ☺️
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo I agree, I'm already crunching so many numbers I don't need to worry about detailed labor costs lol. I just added 10% to mine, thank you!

Oh wow I’m sure it is SOO different now! Back then was it just about farmers markets? And I bet the wax, wick, fragrance options were very minimal!
Hi there, love your transparency - where can we find this wick setting tool?
Hi! We just put out a video on wicking tools! We get them on Etsy from CarpeLink
This is really cool, I hope you do more videos like this. I love this video style.☺️✌️
Thank you! ☺️
Great video, important information for new and older candle makers. It would be nice to have a video on target customers.❤

Hi, can I ask what wicks you used it the small clear jar?
Hi, the wicks are from Hive and Honey. They are CDN wicks!
Thank you! The straight side 9 inch jars are such a pain for me
Question, where do you get your CDN wicks from, I use to get mine from 16/17 so I’m trying to find something similar to those cdns

Hello. Can you tell me the best thermometer to use for small batches. The name and where to find it. Thank you so much
Hi! Honestly an inexpensive meat thermometer would work just fine!

What do you have wrapped around your jars? Are they to keep finger prints off or to keep heat in?
