My 2006 Buick terraza 3.5 tests for combustion gas in cooling system & overheats. I will be tearing down my engine to replace manifold gaskets & possibly head gaskets. I am likely replace all gaskets, as I lack confidence in the OEM'S & most of the work is already done by the time we are ready to do the intake manifold gaskets. I really appreciate your video, especially this with chapters. I feel confident I can DIY. I am just turning 80, so may not do it as fast as I would have years ago, but certainly not too difficult & I have plenty of free time. Great recreational project, & very expensive at a shop. I will be ordering the metal instead of plastic for sure.

I saw that you did not refill the cooling system with DEX. Can you comment on why?
As soon as my replacement locator dowel pins get here I am ready to reassemble. My 06 Buick Terraza 3.5 project is complete head & intake manifold gasket set replacement. I hope this solves our overheating problem. Would you recommend using a 180 degree thermostat (we're in Southern Missouri) or stay with the original 195 degree? Hot weather AC cooling is needed more than needing heat.

I hate to say this but you may have replaced those gaskets for no reason. I say this because I have a Malibu with this same engine. Mine has a slight bit of leaks in the area you mentioned but when I brought it up to the dealer they told me don't worry about it. Car now has 237k miles and coolant level never moves. I send oil samples to Blackstone sometimes and they never detect coolant in my oil. Great video though. Was a great watch though working on this engine in my car is a thousand times easier, especially with no engine mount in the front and no power steering pump.

@butchtropic Did you get yours replaced? My 05 is at 262k miles and has a coolant leak under the Tstat housing. Could be lower intake gaskets. My car also has a oil leak from the oil pan. I changed the pan gasket myself (what a job that was). Still has a slight leak. I gave up, just leaving it as is.

Yes, you can replace the head gaskets without removing the engine. There are a lot of very detailed Chevy Venture 3400 videos, the process is almost the same for the 3500. Be absolutely sure you use the correct parts and the correct torque for your head gasket bolts and intake bolts. If you've never done it before, use a Fel Pro kit that has all new bolts for the heads, and lower intake manifold.
