I have an 07 Uplander with the 3.9L and need to replace the valve covers. This looks close enough for me to be able to make the jump. I'm a fairly competent DIY mechanic and now have more confidence thanks to your video. Thanks!

Tackling this at work for the first time, your video was extremely helpful! I am a large dude, so I think i am going to drop down the front subframe bolts some to get that additional engine tilt angle, much easier on the body i think. Shooting for the lower manifold gaskets, brake caliper replacements and fluids to be back on the road after lunch. Thanks!

Front coolant ports on heads and gaskets are blocked off by the intake so this is why its almost always the back of engine where the thermostat housing is that it leaks on each head.I usually find both front coolant ports on both heads packed shut with old dex cool buildup., It isnt big deal because the intake blocks off them anyhow. The rear ports are where the coolant flows and leaks mostly at from gasket failures. I never remove injectors or the rails and leave them in place. They don't really need to be removed and cuts time both on disassembly and reassembly.Very easy job and most diy can complete this with minimum tools pretty much just a basic hand tool set , torque wrench and fuel disconnect. I always check radiator for buildup if i find front ports packed with dex cool and recommend cleaning or replacment.Usally are about same price to clean as they are to buy so usually replace as they are single row cores anyhow.best time to r/r tstat also while you have intake off.I find worst part it the power steering pump and its lines. best to just unconnected both lines from holders pull them out of their fitted path so you can pull p/s pump up and out to lay it toward water pump..and out of way. Some times you do have to remove to return hose to do this. Torque specs is your best friend here so invest in a torque wrench so you dont end up having to repeat this.

Great video! I had a mishap and part of the map sensor fell inside the plenum. It looks like it's a job just for the plenum. I wonder if I have to disconnect the fuel lines or drain the coolant just for the plenum. Anyone with any insight will be much appreciated.

I have the 3500 engine in my 2006 Buick terraza cxl. How much difference is it from the 3900 engine? Also, did GM also use plastic for HEAD gaskets? I test positive for combustion gas in my coolant system & was told a "blown head gasket or cracked cylinder". How likely is it that it's the intake manifold gasket instead? How much more has to be done to replace the head gaskets as long as it's already disassembled that far?

RODENT Problem, number 1 injector wires were eaten and left me with #1 injector inop ! Cant get to it so I think we have to remove the intake to repair the harness, 2006 monte carlo 3.5 intake manifold removal, do you see any other way to get around doing this? Loved the video but I love talking not mute.... LOL

This is so weird to me. I have a 2005 Malibu with the 3.5. I bought it in 09 with 40k miles and it now has 237k. Overheated once when I first got it because I forgot to put the overflow cap back on. Never had any engine problems whatsoever to this day. I still floor it daily and its been a great car. I didn't know the 3.5 suffered from lower intake gasket problems.

3.1 ,3.4, 3.5 , 3.8 all suffer from dex cool eating their wet intake gaskets apart

@@mitchissertell1514 It's not the dex-cool, it's the crappy plastic construction plus the many heat/cold cycles any gasket has to go through. Dex-cool is used with plastic radiator and overflow tanks and has not eaten any of them yet.

Question what is the name of that wiring harness that is next to the power steering reservoir and the top of the engine?

No timing issues with pulling out rods? First time messing with them while doing install. Nervous

I looked up some intake gaskets for a 3.5 on a Malibu I believe. Alldata says 8 hours...Definitley not a 3.8 time wise that's for sure. Looks more involved. Nice Repair!

I have an 05 Malibu. I could probably have the plenum off in 15 minutes and I'm not a mechanic. Not having a power steering pump really helps.

That 8 hours tho is in my opinion still a respectable time for sure. I'll be doing this come Thursday and I'll be happy just to break even on time for to what's in store lol he does appear to kind of speed through it which I get but I move a little more carefully or my bad luck will fuck me just to set me back a half hour lol
