I think this video exposed a core problem of Sims 4 development. Ultimately the developers don’t really play the game as much as they could/should. They have a really different perspective being developers. I really love that they listen to players and are learning these small things that effect game players. I’m glad Roneo also spoke about the issues they encounter as developers and that they genuinely do want to add better things but the game code makes it so difficult. The game really needed a different core engine I think. Kudos to the Sims team for everything they’re doing 👍🏾
i agree. the thing with the sims 4 is that i think it was kinda rushed because there are features that were never finished hidden in the code and the whole sims 3-eque customisation introduced for pets introduced in cats and dogs. i honestly think that if the sims 3 wasn't such a hot mess by into the future, they could've waited longer to develop the sims 4 to be the best game it can be. though, considering that they've said ts4 still has 3 years of content left, i'm confident that they will learn from the previous games and the sims 5 will be the ultimate base game.
+Simagination Good points. I can understand that the devs don't play the game that much. They are paid to code it and create it, not play it. Anything after that would be like taking work home and nobody wants that. What they could do with is players/builders on call to do that testing for them. Not in-house playtesters either but community ones. It's also telling that just because the community and devs want something added or fixed, it doesn't mean it is easy to do. Anyone can create a list and say this could be easily added but to code it in and get it to work with all the other code and not break the game isn't always the easiest thing to do, even for something seemingly simple. I hope there are more vids like this with devs and community that can directly highlight the issues, instead of just reading about it on a forum. Show is always better than tell.
This guy seemed really cool though, adding ideas and saying he could try to explore it more. And he wasn't even a bad builder just didn't know some tricks.
I'm a developer too, and I have to say 99% of the time the developers don't know how to use the programs they develop. It's because every developer works on a smaller part of the code. Games like the sims has a huge code base. No developer can go through the whole thing. Same with the game, they only see whats behind it. But every big company has testing teams, and it's not the developer's fault if the game is unconventional for the players. //sorry for the english
Regardless of all the bugs, glitches, and issues this developer has helped create a unique and amazing game that everyone loves, and I appreciate that!

It definitely said glass on that door back in the day, it was in your earlier vids at game release and I remember it being a whole thing, it got changed at some point when they added swatches to it.
James and Romeo, thank you so much for this video! I found this informational, and it was nice seeing a developer listen and understand some if the challenges the game faces. As well as sharing a development point of view. You guys are awesome! 😆
Hahha i loved this. James directly told him everything that he wants by showing him. I know a of ppl say Oo the developers should play the game more but that’s why they have us. If they spent more time playing it would take away from future content. Plus you have to remember working on something everyday as job wouldn’t give you the same joy as we get when we play. Yes I agree they should test things more time to time but you have to think about it objectively.
@@mjbridges Yea they could just have people who only test the game. And nothing else. Like they do for other games. I would gladly sign up for that job by the way!
Finally...I see many people complaining like it's a big issue, but it still comes down to being a job for them more than anything. I wonder why they don't have a testing group that allows better feedback, though. Perhaps it's money, who knows. @@mjbridges I'd sign up in a heartbeat, lol.

@@jessjess23brooks89 "true professional" the guy builds good houses yes, but hes not a professional, the developer is, the guy who spend years of time and money on education and learning to know how to develop, hes a professional, not someone using that developers assets to build a fucking house
@@amymillerxx7172 Actually James is a professional. The definition of professional is being paid for a task regularly. James gets paid for his builds, Let's Plays and commentary. Hence, he is a professional in the Sims marketplace. This is just a fact. A good developer would listen to someone like James who does something also out of sheer passion without the constraints of an Executive and deadlines over their shoulders. James probably sells the Sims 4 as much as anyone employed by EA.
Oh YAY, my mom loves building sims houses and has been so devastated that foundations have "disappeared"... can't wait to tell her where they're hiding 😅😄
i definitely had to look it up with a google search the first time i played Sims 4. i thought for a second "there's no friggin way they would just take out foundations" lmao
Lavender Llama Yeah, no that would make absolutely no sense! She was so adamant that they were gone though that I was just like “ok oh no” and after that I just plopped my houses right on the ground ol school style haha. Glad they’re not gone!
The build mode does have a foundation section, so it was clear to me it was possible, but nothing in that section explains how to use the foundations. It was infuriating
Limi V agreed. I didn't get it until I went on RUclips to find out how 😂 I was like... Yeah, I just chose the effing foundation I want (the bricks) and yet it doesn't exist!
For a similar effect to glass floorings I usually use the big clear dancefloor, it is see trough! Too bad it has a modern look to it, it would be cool to have a more classy/vintage looking one as well 😁
I personally don't like the idea of walking on glass. I also don't like the idea of having to buy a $40 expansion pack just to get a window or something.
@Hannah Dakan Even if you get the entire sims 4 base game for $20 plus all of the dlc for half off that is still a total of over $200 that is way too much in my books as in my opinion quite a bit should have come with the base game
@Hannah Dakan yeah that make sense since it was split between the years I just hope that in the future they make a better (more consumer friendly) business model when it comes to the sims franchise because right now it just seems like the developers are stuck pandering to EA's greed to milk gamers for everything they have
Tiny build and there wasn't even a whisper about ladders/spiral staircases. Gosh James dis-a-pointed. Real talk though, it was nice to see SimGuruRomeo taking on James' feedback. I think building together was a great choice as it gave both of you the opportunity to SEE what the players see and hear the developer side of some issues.
They already knew most of our struggles before this. 😅 but they haven't really gotten permission to work on it I guess. Have to listen to the higher ups and the higher ups may not understand 😅 so it continues to be a problem.
@@Hellooutthewindow ah sorry I'm pretty much the same except I'm tortured by the fact that it may not change much. In the end we still might not get what we want.
I understand the dynamic of the video, one side is a developer wanting to be objective and just build, and the other side James turner, formally known as Sim Supply, that build to be pretty and playable. I want more of that.
When I began this video I though the guru would build, we would see all the details he missed. Than james would improve and make it cohesive and nice... but it's just james telling him how to build.. lol
It would be so amazing if, when making the walls higher, it would only be for the one room... I really don’t like when it does that for the entire house, when I only want the entrance hallway or living room to have taller walls, instead of the entire house.
@K. Phé It is actually really common in real life. You just have to consider each story of the building not as just one surface of one height but rather as multiple levels that can differ in height in between with some steps etc. So you can actually have a welcome area/hallway with taller walls and above that an area more elevated. You can create more private spaces that way and emphasize the more "public" spaces of the house by making them bigger and more open. In the sims, you can do that by making an area have the height of two stories and creating an open "balcony" somewhere in the surrounding area on the above floor. If you want to see this kind of houses search for "Lofts/ Loft houses". They are really cool.
I get that you were giving him tips and teaching him some things but you were also being a little too critical- like he would like something and you would just tell him it’s not good :/
I would love to be able to organize the buy mode items by myself or creating folders so you can make for example kitchen clutter, kids accesoires, outdoor decor,... Or what ever you need to find items faster while building :)
agenderemryspaperart i don’t mind not having the organizing folders anymore but i’d like a favorites folder so i can save things i use often so i don’t have to search for it every time
Would be nice with more sessions. James could teach them how to do a proper Open for Business expansion :). James know more about this game that most, EA should really use his expertise when developing expansions and addons, this way we will get useful stuff.
I surprisingly loved this video. Why surprisingly? I usually love watching building videos to learn new techniques; I loved this video for the entertainment and techniques. I love y'alls dynamic and am hoping there will be more videos with him?😍
I'm so thrilled to see this video! Yes, he was being a little overbearing and pushing in certain directions but that was exactly what should have been done to stress the issues that many builders have. I could write a blog about TS4 stairs so I'm not commenting here what everyone else knows by now. Thank you both for taking the time to make this video (and part two which I'm about to watch). Sims builders everywhere are very enthusiastic to see how receptive both the devs and those (sim supply here) who represent most of concerns that regular builders have. Many game developers, of irrelevant games atm, seem to only care about what THEY want and the bottom line. I know many are eager for TS5 but TS4 still offers so much room for developing and smaller tweaks that TS5 is low on my list of cares. I would buy about a dozen more game packs and expansion packs over the next year or two with no complaints.
But they also charge you full price for it, so they should be more thorough in my opinion. I mean we have better reasoning for our unpaid university projects...
To hear him just say “None of us know why it’s happening,” was a reminder that actual people made this game and they have to figure out the bugs and fix them. Sometimes things just glitch and it’s no one’s fault 🤷🏼♀️. Reminds me to be more patient with the next glitch I experience!
Aha! James has kidnapped a Guru and forced him to confront everything wrong with build mode! XD Seriously, though, you guys make a very interesting build team. Who knew Romeo liked making wacky houses so much? :p Nice to see a dev confronting some of the issues in the game one on one -- yeah, it IS frustrating the way roofs always have a wall, isn't it? Or that we don't have more plain door swatches? Have no idea if anything's going to come of this, as Romeo's just one Guru, but still. Very satisfying in its own way. :p
Bria Pryor if you have a good computer it wouldn’t.... lol you mays well play sims 2 basically the same shit... you don’t even feel like your in a neighbourhood when your playing sims 4 it’s so crap in my opinion.
Got curious about that whole door situation so I went ahead and checked what its called in the Finnish localisation of the game, and its straight up called "Just a glass double door" (Pelkkä lasinen pariovi). Would love to know why they changed that in the English version.
Yeah I had to go and check it, too. The description says: "a simple glass double door which you can find in places that need unnoticeable but stylishly elegant double doors." (don't know how it's supposed to be stylish OR elegant) I wonder if they have only changed the English version. 🤔
@@DewelynC While you wonder how it's supposed to be stylish or elegant, I'll casually wonder how it even qualifies as glass double doors while looking nothing like glass.
@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 there arr doors that are glass but are covered by color stickers so its not transparent but its still glass. But i dunno if that's what the developer meant or it was just a mistake tho

//sorry for the english
All of this. It was fascinating watching him try to build and running into the issues we run into.

Annoying? If anything, seeing a game developer possess so minimal knowledge about the game he himself is creating makes you doubt for his commitment to it in the first place.
@@doomdesire6668 They're game developers, not house developers. You can't expect someone to build all the code for the game AND master the art that is building a house in sims. it's not his job to know the tricks and tips to build good looking houses, but to build a platform for building it

How about the feedback of the players? 👍🏼
Finally...I see many people complaining like it's a big issue, but it still comes down to being a job for them more than anything. I wonder why they don't have a testing group that allows better feedback, though. Perhaps it's money, who knows. @@mjbridges I'd sign up in a heartbeat, lol.

This is a video of my micro manager boss crushing all my creative freedom, and after I try to hide the tears in my cubical. 😅

@Hannah Dakan yeah that make sense since it was split between the years I just hope that in the future they make a better (more consumer friendly) business model when it comes to the sims franchise because right now it just seems like the developers are stuck pandering to EA's greed to milk gamers for everything they have

holy crap ... as a web developer I feel for SimGuruRomeo
Simgururomeo is such a sweetheart you can just tell
what a sweetie. he’s doing his best.
I understand the dynamic of the video, one side is a developer wanting to be objective and just build, and the other side James turner, formally known as Sim Supply, that build to be pretty and playable. I want more of that.
When I began this video I though the guru would build, we would see all the details he missed. Than james would improve and make it cohesive and nice... but it's just james telling him how to build.. lol
If Romeo sees this.....SPIRAL STAIRCASES or Leveled Stairs so you can double back them
"when in doubt, cover with plants." this is the #1 sims rule and i laughed so hard
You can actually do that I think. If you click the room.
@@rosedorada nope
The worst part: You cannot raise one room even if it is not connected to everything else. You must have the same height on the entire floor.
@K. Phé yeah, I even have it in my own home
Cheeks are literally hurting from smiling so much, SimGuruRomeo is an absolute joy, never fails to make me happy.
OuterStratus he’s cute
I get that you were giving him tips and teaching him some things but you were also being a little too critical- like he would like something and you would just tell him it’s not good :/
I would love to be able to organize the buy mode items by myself or creating folders so you can make for example kitchen clutter, kids accesoires, outdoor decor,... Or what ever you need to find items faster while building :)
agenderemryspaperart i don’t mind not having the organizing folders anymore but i’d like a favorites folder so i can save things i use often so i don’t have to search for it every time
Yep, especially with cc
Would be nice with more sessions. James could teach them how to do a proper Open for Business expansion :). James know more about this game that most, EA should really use his expertise when developing expansions and addons, this way we will get useful stuff.

Sims Community: Yeah.. We know...
It’s really interesting hearing his reasoning for issues and builds etc! You forget they’re human at the end of the day haha
Romeo is so cute, I kinda love him! And yep that's my philosophy, cover everything with plants xD

For scaling. If you want it at the smallest, just hold in the scale down button, while copying it. Very effective on the laps ^^
I miss how on sims 3 you could casually walk down to the park. But now you have to load. You could evan create your own wo rld!
