There was something so hilarious and menacing about Bess coming to the lot to swindle Semaj out of more money, only to find him standing in front of an almost empty lot with a pile of valuable items on fire behind a safety fence, and Semaj just like "mind your own business, move along now"
Tip: you can put dyes you find in the dumpster, back in the dumpster to make it fill back up!
You can also grab a quick meal from the fridge or water from the sink and put that in the dumpster to fill it too! Fills it for free

Oh shoot, that's no good. I've been having trouble with my game because my sims just stand there doing nothing for hours while their needs go down. I was wondering if it's a bug right now or specific to my game. I keep debugging them or saving to see if it helps, but they just spend soooo much time standing around.

I always wonder who buys the items from the inventory. “Ah yes 3 apples, a random book and a old fish, 326$ for you”
For real. I guess it would be more realistic if you had to sell items to a location or through a service that makes sense eg produce you have to take to or sell through the farmers market... Hosting a garage sale might be a fun mechanic that would let you sell everything in your inventory just at a reduced rate, as opposed to having to use all the different services or list on plopsy etc

you should try a million simoleans with archeology! when they start sending you artifacts and paying you like 4k for uncovering one you get crazy rich, and you could sell the golden treasures you find for a 300% markup! jungle adventure is so underrated!!

When the potion of plentiful needs malfunction, it sets all of your needs to 50%.
Unbreakable objects and those made unbreakable thru upgrades can't be affected with any destructive magic like incinerate or electrify.
Repairio can improve the quality of things that you fabricate on the wood working table.
The herbio spell create a random plant, BUT, it only create plants from the base game and realms of magic. There is a mod that allow the creation of some other expansion packs.
Have a random wall to hang pictures and paintings. Burn it. Repairio it.
Can you imagine being Semaj's neighbors and just seeing this 24/7 out your windows

The Greenburgs are looking out their window at the increase of smoke "huh, guess the pyro's at it again." Actually, I'm surprised I don't remember seeing the Greenburgs visit him, they are at my lot 24/7 when I play there. Maybe they killed themselves in their own fire, they set them a lot too.

I feel like the collector's aspiration also helps with dumpster diving, but could just be my luck. Also, the spell that generates food makes a plate that can be put into the dumpster and generate items. You could have stayed on your home lot the entire time. Using the bottomless trash lot challenge also helps the dumpsters stay full.
Then we were both lucky, my sim with the collector aspiration got really nice furniture out of the dumpsters too. Being on a landfill lot is also helpful, because people sometimes dump very valuable appliances and electronics.
I found that freegan was actually ruining my chances! I did way better without that trait.

I would get annoyed at the cockroaches, but I didn't like having my inventory full of trash either, so I'd use a CC storage item by Ravasheen that looks like a storage box. So I'd be storing tons of trash in a box next to the dumpster, and then transfer it to the dumpster when I was ready to dive. Hey, it's a living. 😅
Ah, vampires. I was doing this as a refurbish store and had found one of the really expensive couches …. and the customer made my sim go through nearly the whole ringing up process only to burn in the sun just before actually buying the thing. ^^; I would have loved to charge grim for that.
This is exactly why I always put a roof over my shop, even if it's just floating.
If you do the spellcaster thing again, get a familiar. As long as they are active you can't die from overcharging.
I love this series so much! And I think it’s absolutely hilarious that it escalated from “let’s get broken shit and magic it and sell it” to “LET’S DO MAGIC INSURANCE FRAUD”

Love this quick millions series so much. As a claims adjuster I would have been a tad suspect of Semaj's bad luck
I wonder if you could make a full household of eight sims and just have them churn out books. Like a book writing factory of sims.
You could do that. Also have a household artist factory. OR if you have Get Together, have the book factory household create an Artist Club, buy a bunch of easels, and have your challenge Sim on a Digital Art pad when the club is at your lot and that Sim isn't writing books (so you can buy club perks like Inspiration moodlet and gaining art skill faster, that sort of thing.) That said, from CAS you have to create a household with exactly one Sim for this challenge, it won't let you start with an 8 Sim household or even a 2 Sim household, so you'd need to add Sims to your household either through gameplay or manage worlds. And don't forget the yard sale table/yard sale wall from City Living so you could get the mark-up on the art (if you had the writers make copies of the books, you could sell those on the table too but I think you'd need to keep the original to continue making copies.)

I totally understand that dumpster diving gets boring at some point. That's why I did my Million Dollar Challenge Dumpster Diving Edition (with Extreme Rags to Riches rules, but with Green Technician job), using a junkyard at a certain point. It still cost me 30 gameplay hours and about 60 hours editing the video (no kidding)....😅 But I love the idea of the insurance scam and the magic spells.😈 And James in general: Thanks for the great inspiration and entertainment! Because of you and DrGluon I started playing the Sims again. 🤗🤩
i made a challenge where i could only furnish a house using dumpster items. i did that and the green technician job. i technically finished the challenge but probably only have like $500k total.

Actually I wanted to build and furnish such a house in the non-existent follow-up video. 😅How the time goes by...🙃The most difficult part of the interior will probably be the kitchen: When I look into the savegame I see that in total only 4 counters and 4 islands were found.... But none of the parts match in color (and most of them not in shape).🤣

For a different video/challenge idea, what if you had a vampire sim who wanted to be a child of the ocean and live at the beach, living on Sulani? But you weren't allowed to use the immune to the sun vamp trait? And the big thing to work up to was a dramatic beach wedding? 😂 and you HAVE to finish every aspiration/trait related to beach life
If you put trash or spare parts in the bin it fills up and you can five for deals again. Also if you copy past the stuff you get in dumpsters it makes it easy to earn more money.❤
Insurance adjusters in the sims must get some weird phone calls, I would love to see their claims.
For the CC oven, you have to turn off auto placing counter!
I did a similar route except I befriended a dust bunny until they gave me one of the expensive frog treasures from jungle adventure then did copypasto on them. Sometimes you get extra copies but if the spell fails that's where the burnt pile comes from.
I love that James donates to Bess Sterling in every series 😂😂. It inspired me to do it, she finally paid out $25k and then I immediately got a notification that she died lollll
Landfill lot is not for residential but there is a trash management lot trait that would have been helpful. Also the delicioso spell that creates food? Throw the plate away to generate more stuff in the dumpster! Also use a sink to get a free glass of water, cancel the action, leave the water to spoil (there is a lot trait that speeds that up but I can’t remember if it’s grimy or another one) then throw the water out in the dumpster to generate more dumpster deals!
This video makes me want to read a book where the main character becomes a wizard and then just uses his magical powers to commit petty fraud 😆

I'm doing this scenario currently! My sim is a fregan kleptomaniac. She stays at other people's houses, steals their things and their food and dumpster dives in the down time lol

I never fully played the magic pack and I didn’t know you could do insurance fraud 😩😂
There is a glitch with the potions that - regardless of potion quality (excellent, normal, poor, etc.) - it will have the negative effect. So needs potions will cut your needs in half rather than fill them, rejuvenation potion will fill your age bar rather than empty it, etc.
I'm LOVING this series so much! Its reinvigorated my interest in sims. I started getting a bit bored with gameplay and this has just helped me get into it again. Thanks James! Lol

I think it seems like it took a lot longer even though it was only 19 days because he was awake the whole time. So no hours were wasted sleeping. In all the hours I have played this game I have never seen a Vampires grave/urn before! Love the video as always.

Every time I see the sage’s in game I always have troubles finding them because I’m used to seeing them in the clothes James put them in in the rags to riches series, the outfits with top hats etc
Yes I know I can find them with the thingys above their head but I look for outfits and I can’t see the red suits and top hats on anyone so it always confuses me lolz

I love getting copy pasto, then exploring the temples in jungle adventure to get the artifacts. $15,000 artifact copy pasted several times yields good results. it's a little too easy but pretty satisfying.
This gave me an idea so I can get into playing again. I’m going to create a magical sim have him/her open a retail store and sell all the items that they repair from the dumpster at a home depo store.
One thing that could have helped a bit is getting a familiar. They reduce your charge and will also prevent you from dying if you happened to overcharge to death.
This is amazing. I haven't thought of the magical dumster diving trick. Just brilliant. You don't even need a house for this to work.
I just started playing scenarios like a week ago and it's a blast but I wish that there were more available that had more to it. Some of them, like the million dollars, just adds an extra element or a goal to regular gameplay. Because it takes so long to accomplish. Whereas others are way more involved and have tons of new goals as you achieve things even daily. I really like that

I would have almost given up on Sims recently. I have played sims the first game. I used to get a buzz every time I would see a new game or pack. And sims 4 has been a let down, with the quality and amount of most packs. I'm glad your keeping Sims 4 content alive considering how broken it is?!?
Ok so I kind of love this - it’s a way to cheat the system without technically using any cheats or mods, and that’s just so much more clever than cheats. And hey, once you can afford the stuff who says you CAN’T just buy the expensive stuff and commit more insurance fraud?? lol this kind of outside the box thinking, while still technically playing within the confines of what the game allows, is the kind of content I love to see. James is so creative, definitely want to see more like this.
It's all about timescales. Dumpster diving is an excellent way to make money quickly (in less than a day), but it doesn't start compounding on itself with time the way dragon fruits do. Whereas dragonfruit is a terrible way to make money quickly (you'll see no money in less than a day) but in a week or two you're printing money.
Dumpster diving is how you get the money you need to buy a dragon fruit in Henford-on-Bagley, essentially.
James, that potions bug is legit the game just f**king up. My spellcasters can't make potions without them failing despite being high level wizards/witches.
You should try this by using tons of fishing traps in Sulani. You could do 2 sets of traps on 2 consecutive days. That way you can harvest daily. Then maybe sell the expensive treasures using a sales table.
lol when I did my dumpster diving to a million challenge, I downloaded The Dump that you and Glueon made and would travel there as there are two dumpsters plus the one off the lot...would literally just go between the three of them!
Suggestions:
1. One household of 8 sims.
2 sims - video streaming
2 sims - writing books
2 sims - searching in the Bottomless Decoration Box and selling what is found
2 sims - both dumpster diving for furniture or one does that and the other does woodworking for the tiny home and selling what is not needed. Basically, trying to furnish the tiny home through dumpster diving and woodworking. When they're done, they switch something else.
Maybe get to 2 bunk beds, so 4 sims, at any given time, are always awake making money.
2. One household of 8 sims.
3 sims - video streaming
3 sims - writing books
2 sims - both dumpster diving for furniture or one does that and the other does woodworking for the tiny home and selling what is not needed. I started this challenge but instead of insurance fraud, I'm selling everything at a shop and decorating a house with the mansion baron aspiration using only dumpster dove items. Childish is proving useful because they get their fun up fast from playing with toys.

Regarding the broken CC stove, you might have an older version of the CC pack. Dream Home Decorator broke CC built in stoves, but Little Dica updated the pack to fix it, so it might just be a matter of downloading the updated version of the pack
There's a bug with having auto-counters on and CC in-counter stoves. LittleDica also mentions that in the description of the mod... but as much as we love James, we know how he is about actually reading the tooltips.
The fact that I didnt have a brain to realize why his simself is called Semaj Renrut to this day is just sad. 😅

Clever idea! When it comes to the learning spells thing, though, it is probably faster to learn without tomes. You just click your sim, select "practice magic" they will throw sparkles a few times and boom, a new spell. Also, you can pick which school the spell will be from, so super convenient.

I discovered "insurance fraud" when I played the unlucky chef scenario. I had repairio and made money from all the fires from cooking.
I love to get the potion of plentiful needs and use copypasto on it. If one of the teachers give it to you, it’s worth $0. But once you learn to make it in the cauldron you can sell it. Makes for a fun & profitable way of building a witchy store.

This reminds me of my strategy to make money with Sims 3 Supernatural. Get the Midas Touch potion from the store, buy the most expensive dresser, turn it into gold. Sell that, use the profits to buy more expensive dressers, and repeat until the potion wears off.

Definitely Selvadorada temple run... Science career until Semaj gets the cloning machine, and then he takes off to Selvadorada.. Comes home and clones his treasures and sells them on the sales table. Could also do the Ambrosia (and clone it, and sell it on the table), pretty fast simoleon maker.

Could you try a challange along the lines of making 1 million as fast as you can controling 8 sims (you could add other rules and challenges to make it even more chaotic)
Stealing Del Sol Valley 🌟 stars off the floor and selling those through inventory. (Not sure if they will go on the selling table) they respawn pretty fast. I wonder if it would work for this scenario I usually sell these on a bind.
