      I’m planing to move to Full Frame from D7200 crop sensor , have 44” printer , printing 40x60”‘prints , did you have to artificially interpolate a bit or 36 mega pixels file for sufficient to retain all the detail at such a high print file 40x60 ? Thanks much

    I think people need to wake up and smell the coffee with regards to the "throwaway" modern world we live in. I remember when the D850 launched, a lot of people who owned a D810 ditched it in favour of a camera that was simply nothing more than "new". Just because something is new, it doesn't make it better. The D810 is a stunning camera, and to be honest if mine broke beyond repair tomorrow I'd buy another D810, not a D850. The file sizes and general spec of the D850 are not something I need. I don't really know WHY I'd need a D850. Particularly as I do a lot of timelapse work. Ok, so the file sizes of the D810 are a little crazy, but they're on the border of manageable. The image quality and detail in the D810's images never fails to amaze me. It's one of the greatest camera ever made.

      I’m fine with people selling their D810 for a D850. All it does is drive the prices of D810’s down as there is more of them available. 810’s are way under half of their original sale price when they were released.
      It’s the same with smartphones. My iPhone SE is just as good as the day it was released, throwaway culture has just made them cheaper. Grab a bargain and buy what the posers are selling because they think they’re talent exceeds a D810. Fine by me...

      The best 35mm films have ~36MP resolution.. so we've had that level of 'resolution' for decades. Personally I want a minimum of 36MP in a DSLR to match the resolution of my best film photographs ... as I shoot both.

      Purchased a Olympus 5.6 mp p&s back in 2002 & I waited for years for digital to catch up. 3/2016 I went & purchased the D810,14-24, 105 micro, 70-200 F2.8 VR ll, 200-500 & an SB700 flash on a Nikon sale. Yehaa! Couldn't be happier. Cracks me up that every time a new camera comes out , the previous model is no good anymore. The only thing that bothered me about the purchase was a month later Nikon offered the D810 with the grip for the same price I paid.

      I use Nikon CLS all the time -- That is, triggering Nikon speedlights and adjusting them on the fly with the pop-up. People who say you don't need a pop-up generally are usually thinking of an on camera flash as being used for actually lighting a scene. Apart from snaps, I've barely ever used my D800 flash for anything besides triggering other flashes. That ability is amazing and I really hate seeing it not in pro level bodies unless they can literally replace it with in-camera and in-flash radio triggering.

    • @richardbierman9856
      @richardbierman9856 4 года назад

      The D810 is "nothing special?" ... I know the D850 is better in many ways, but that's a bold statement. The D810 and D800 are still insane cameras. I think it's so easy to get caught up in the tech race that it's easy to forget how advanced cameras from the past 5 or so years are.

    • @martinaee
      @martinaee 6 лет назад +5

      Well that's just like... you're opinion, MAN!!!
      Of course the newest top of the line camera is better, but what I'm saying it it's a bit hyperbolic to act like you can't get crazy awesome images from them just because some things aren't quite as good for actually capturing specific shots.

    I am a little biased having owned one since 2015 but I think the D810 is the best DSLR Nikon ever produced While it does not have the tilt screen on the D850, it has a pop up flash, a smooth quiet shutter, and a rock solid build. Mine still functions flawlessly despite a lot of use.

    I did not move up to the D850 for one big reason - no built-in flash. The price difference jumps even more when you have to add an independant and expensive flash on top in order to control other flash units. Plus you have to lug that extra weight. I frequently head out with my D810 with just the 28-300mm lens and without all of the peripherals and extra lenses for quick and simple shoots. Impossible with the D850. And I heard the same thing from some other pro (and advanced amateur) photographers. Waiting for the upgrade to the D850 with the hopefully built-in flash.

    I just purchased the D810 because it is an excellent camera and it has the pop-up flash that I use in the commander mode to activate my four SB900s and two SB910s plus off several brand flashes that support the Nikon units. In addition, it can alternate between FX and DX settings that allows me to use my D7200 as a landscape backup camera when out in the field.
    The camera is selling on Adorama for under $2,000, as a Nikon factory refurbished camera with a 30 day guarantee plus there is additional extended warranty plans are available at a reasonable price range of $50 to $70.

    I had a D500 but sold it! still great camera but to be brutally honest, I found I just didn't need all the fancy tech! didn't care for touch screen, bluetooth, wifi etc. backlight buttons are nice though :) the AF system is great but do you really need it?? maybe if you are shooting high speed things all the time!! where I have found my D3 is more than enough for the odd occasion when speed is needed plus I don't burst rambo style :) I sold my D500 and bought the new Tamron 35mm F1.4 with no regrets, I use a D700 and D3 but have my eye on the D810. I think megapixels have a lot of hype!! always keep in mind the amount of data you have to shift on your computer!! people have bragged about that GFX100 camera with 100mp!! I will be brutally honest about that camera! data size is a nightmare!! you need a super computer and extra hard drives!! and COME ON people!! its handgrip is shite!!! slippy!!!! for the sake of looking cool?? lets get real! plus it costs a bomb!!

    not sure what the issue is, I'm rocking my D800E since 2013 and still don't even think of upgrading. I rather spend my money on nice primes and other hobbies. This is a FX body, it's not like a iPhone or Samsung Galaxy phone that needs upgrading every single year.

    I had a D810 back in 2016, I've since bought new cameras and just never could get the same IQ out of them. That speaks volumes, I'm thinking about just buying another 810 and calling it a day. Lenses are reasonable now, IQ is lightyears better than anything else for the price. Only downside is the mirror and who cares? The main thing I like about mirrorless is the ability to adapt an array of old lenses but otherwise it doesn't benefit me a lot.

    2023. The used price is down to $1000. Video in low light is very good, but lens focusing motor intrudes on audio. Shutter noise is a dull clunk, which makes it OK for event photography. Fast autofocus with inexpensive 'D' lenses. Lots of pixels for the new software programs to work with. Make sure to AF-Fine Tune your lenses to get the most accurate focus using the camera's internal calibration.

    The 810 is still a useful option especially at that reduced price. I still use my 800E and 810 with my 850 for multi camera 1080 p videos. The 850 is still my preferred camera for sills. The BSI sensor in it produces lovely colours and the images are punchier. Sometimes large mega pixel cameras have lots of detail but not as much pop. The 850 has both, plus the 4K is very nice.

    I came to this review video because I recently purchased some photos of my daughter in a figure skating competition and the photographer was shooting the D810. I did take some shots myself, but did not have the ice-side access the hired photographer had. Once delivered, I was not impressed with the image quality. I was absolutely shocked with the amount of noise and the images were shot at ISO 1600. I shoot a Canon 6DMKII mostly and my shots with an ISO of 3200, shot from the stands with the same focal length lens (70-200 mm) were cleaner by far. Like... not even comparable. Not sure what's going on there. I honestly like Nikons as well and have shot with a D750 so I am just really surprised by this. The 6DMKII does have extremely good high ISO performance (and actually not as good low ISO performance), so maybe it's a sensor / processor issue? Not sure, but surprised.

    I had a D810 a couple of years ago, but had to sell it. Now the cash flow is UP again, and I didn't really need the overpriced D850 - which according to many requires high quality glass - so, I went to the local photo store here in Ontario, Canada during a Sale, and for only CAD$3,300 or US$2,500 plus 13% tax purchased another brand new D810. This is my favorite camera! I shoot automotive/trucking, landscape, and street photography. My lenses are: Nikon 14-24 mm f/2.8, Nikon 50 mm f/1.8D, and Nikon 70-200 mm f/4. The image quality coming out of this camera is AMAZING!

    Also had a D3s which took wildlife images far superior to either the D7100 or D500 although a little low on detail due to 12 megapixel. Superb low light performance also, if the D810 shoots almost as cleanly as the D3s with extra detail thanks to the 36 megapixel sensor then I think it could just be worth doing.
    I'm a fully fledged full frame convert now, once you have experienced a quality FX camera, any crop camera just feel like junk in comparison, regardless of the pixel density or crop factor reach. Not to mention the much bigger viewfinder which is helpful for framing and placing your AF point for birds in flight!

    After mastering my 80D, i think i need to try out my skills on a full frame body...i own the following lenses : Sigma 18-35, Canon 85mm f1.8 and the Canon 135 f2.
    Which one of these full frame bodies do you recommend?
    D810, A7r2 and the A7III.

    • @bloodybrit127
      @bloodybrit127 6 лет назад

      personally i thing the A7III or the D810. If you want tried and true or higher mp get the d810, if you want new tech, video and lens adaptability get the a7iii. and of course the obvious mirrorless vs dslr pros and cons though the a7iii fixes a number of those, durability is still lacking in mirrorless cameras but this is something you might not notice depending on your job/how you treat your gear/what you are shooting.

    • @ChrisMyers2000
      @ChrisMyers2000 6 лет назад

      Ideally its always best to stick to the brand that your lenses are BUT, if you're not too heavily invested like I was (Canon 50mm f1.8, Sigma 35mm f1.4, and canon 10-22mm) then a switch could well be worth it. I shot with a Canon 60D for years but just bought a Nikon D810 used and with the left over $$$ i saved, picked up a used nikon 14-24mm and Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art and am so happy with it. I can't speak for the Sony A7 series, i'm sure they are spectacular systems, but I chose the Nikon due to the fact that there are a lot of good lenses available (new and used) for decent prices compared to Sony, and also quite a bit MORE options available on the used market. The Sony could still be the way to go especially with all of the new Sigma Art lenses out now, and your budget is high. Plus i do believe the Sonys can use canon lenses with an adaptor which is practically impossible for my new Nikon. Based on the camera body alone I probably would've went with Sony but the D810 has blown me away with it capabilities. If you choose the D810 though, I can promise you wont regret it.

    Traded in my d3, d3s and d810(with only 13K clicks) to a Cdn photo chain and sent them another Cdn $370 and got a Nikon factory refurb d850 with 1yr factory warranty (that was the out-the-door deal ie tax included). Refurb d850 only had abt 800 clicks. I hardly pick up my d500 anymore. I find AF on d850 is far superior to D810. I'm an enthusiast and not a pro so what do I know :-)

    +digDIRECT ...At about 0:22 into this video, he says the D850 is about $5000.00 ...but where? It came out at $3,298.00 and has been that price ever since! Some people bought more than one, to try to get a higher price while they were still on backorder, but that didn't work out so well. Many of them were lucky to get their money back. This video is from 4 months ago, but I just checked at B&H, and the D850 is still selling for the same $3,298.00 I think that's about the same as the D810 was, when it came out. The D810 is selling for $2,798 (the same as the D700 was at 3 to 4 years after it's introduction). The D810 is just fine for most of us, (and if you're not shooting video, so is the D700). With the current Promo Deal, they give you the MB-D12 Battery Grip for FREE, that's a $400 Savings! Nikon has been very consistent with their prices.

I do weddings with them, portraits and product. If you ever look into an 850 you’ll be very impressed over the 810 in image quality and what is possible. Have a good day!
