If I was forced to sell or choose just one of these cameras… I would regretfully sell the D750 as I use the D850 more in the type of photography I do nowadays. But I count myself very lucky to own both cameras and don’t have to sell either 🤙 I should also mention the Nikon D850 has focus peaking in live view and the ability to do focus stacking. I couldn’t cover every single little difference between the two cameras in this video or it would have went for hours. I’ve always said if your current camera is doing the job you need it to do, then realistically you don’t have to upgrade or buy a new one. If it’s broken and beyond the cost of repair, that’s another story 👍📸
I bought the D750 when it first came out and just cannot part with it, even after I got the Z7. Thinking of purchasing the Z8 but I'll still keep the 750. It's like an old friend to me. When I finally retire it, I'll put it on the shelf with the rest of my collection of vintage cameras.
Good Evening, Adrian! Great video, Good Sir! I began with a D7000, then bought a D7100, D700, and a D4S. In truth, I like them all! But, after I got my first D750, brand new, it was love at first photos! I do not care about shooting videos, and don't care about focus-stacking. I treat my D750 like my old 35mm film cameras, and that works for me! Not long ago, I purchased a second D750, also new, from Adorama. Now, when I travel, I take both D750's, and my Nikon Trilogy lenses: 14-24G, 24-70G, and 70-200E, all Nikon f2.8 lenses, and I'm thrilled with the photos I'm getting! I'm ready to add one more lens, and it will more than likely be the Nikon 500mm f5.6E PF. For the photos I take, I have no need to upgrade to the D850, and have, quite honestly, NO interest in going Mirrorless! Why fix what is not broken? I do not thing that Mirrorless will give me anything better than what I am currently getting, and most certainly am thrilled with my current lens family. I do have a Nikon 50mm f1.8G, too, but unless I really need something like that, I seldom use it. Just my 'tuppence, and others may, of course, choose something different! Thanks, again, for the great videos, and God Bless! - Doc
I did myself a side by side comparison not long ago, and my findings matches yours. Initially i thought that the D850 was my upgrade coming from the D750, but that is not so much the case, excluding some specific and niche scenarios. One thing i always disliked of my D750 was the cold output in terms of temperature compared to other camera´s. Recently after some years of owning the D750 i managed to set the camera in a way that i don´t get that bluish cold tint and instead i get a warmer output right from the camera which matches more my personal taste. This last was a common problem for a lot of people but as usual is just a matter of settings, just my 2 cents anyway and yes ! Never Stop Creating.
Brilliant comparison man and totally agree with everything you said. Doesn't matter if the camera is a DSLR or mirrorless, It's not the camera that takes the photo, it's the photographer. Haha! And good to see Trent Tozzer in one of your videos again! I wondered what happened to him 🤣
Thanks for watching! Yeah last time Trent was a dare devil getting ready for his jump over the Grand Canyon on skates 😂 Glad you enjoyed the vid, cheers 🙏
I still have my D750, the only person I have given it to is my 11 year old grandson who loves it & every time he uses it can't believe what it can do, so I would say your right I did buy the D850 as an upgrade but the 750 still works great & I will also give my D850 to my grandson too!!!!!

Great comparison between these two camera - many thanks for sharing the info and photographs - have a great weekend Adrian
Hello, I use the z9 every day. But I also use my D850 at least twice a week. They are both fabulous cameras and although my Z9 is easier to do a lot of things with, (new tech!) I find the D850 delivers everything else I need. You are write, noise is no longer the killer it was and I find some noise adds to the photo, making some images even more dramatic. I also have many top line FX lenses, they are not being replaced unless they fail. The average eye cannot see any difference in their performance, just as with the cameras. Great channel thank you! TonyH
DSLR isn't dead! I have D780 & D850 I find I'm using the D780 more than the D850, in fact I haven't picked up my D850 in 12 months. The D780 excels in low light I've shot at ISO 32,000 an get useable images. Thank you for your informative videos.
Great video Adrian! While the d850 definitely has some advantages, I was surprised at just how well the d750 performed in your test at high ISO! Outstanding results at 6400 ISO and zoomed into 2l00%!!! Wow! As I have said before, I don't think someone can go wrong with either of these amazing cameras, and for yourself personally, what a pair of cameras in your arsenal! Really enjoyed it as always mate. Have a wonderful week down there!
Hi Paul - thanks for watching mate. Yeah I'm pretty lucky to have both cameras. I enjoy using both. I know with time eventually they'll stop working, but I'll keep on getting the most I can out of them in the meantime. Have a great weekend, cheers. 📸🙏
Nice comparison....as a landscape shooter I kept the D850 and traded in the D750 for a Z7. But there are times I miss the D750. Thank you for these videos.
definitely agree with you, the skill is with the people.....i own Zf and i wont ever sell my D750........yes mirrorless has the advantage on AF and articulating screen.....make your workflow much easier....that is why my D750 is used mainly for landscape and my Zf is used for people :)
Hi Adrian, a great video, buddy! 👍And it shows quite well the dilemma of the camera industry: how can they make the upcoming models interesting enough to bring us to upgrade? 🙂 But it is definitely interesting what will come next. We will see. Thank you for the video, enjoy your weekend, Christian
I bought the D750 2nd hand and it's been a beautiful camera! Bought many a 2nd hand lens as well for it and all have been spectacular! I'm sure there are many advantages to the mirrorless, but considering the price, I believe this was a better route.
Fantastic comparison. I have a D750 and I am very happy with it. In fact, after watching this channel, I've just bought another second hand one on Ebay at a reasonable price, although it hasn't arrived yet. So I hope to keep using my D750 for a long time to come. Although I don't usually comment on the videos because of my difficulty with English, I am addicted to this channel. I live in the Canary Islands, on the other side of the world. Thank you for your videos.
This was sooo informative. While I'm not moving from a D750 -- I am looking to upgrading from my D500. I want to get into macro photography and the D850 has built-in shift focusing that should make a huge difference. And, like you noted, some good deals can be found on the D850 -- especially with so many moving to mirrorless (I'm not ready for that just yet). Thanks again for an excellent video.
I am a serious amateur photographer and Nikon guy on a budget and bought my D750 second hand and damaged from eBay at a good price. I had it repaired, and it is am awesome camera I have used hard. The only limit I found was it's small buffer, but I have used it's amazing dynamic range by shotting in RAW and then changing the exposure settings. My D750 is again slightly injured and I want to get into mirrorless, but I'm not dumping the D750. Another repair and refresh, and I've always wanted a D850. The Z6III seems like it will be punching well above its weight when it is release... but would love a Z9. No point in getting the Z8 - I want a grip on all my cameras, and the Z9's build on grip is just a better package than a Z8 with a grip.
I am hobbyist photographer and been using the Nikon APSC cameras for last 11 years, started with the D7000, upgraded to the D7200 and then moved to the z50 with both kit lenses about 3 years ago. I do most of my photography while traveling, family events and chasing the grandkids (birthday parties, sports, etc). I am 70 years old and found myself struggling with a heavy D7200 and all the f lenses. The Z50 is a great travel camera. I will never go back to DSLR.
Hey mate, both these cameras and other top DLSR’s will always be around! Film cameras are still popular, and are on the comeback!Mirrorless are just the trend for now, until something else comes along. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I have a D750 and a D800E, I bought both brand new when they came out, sometimes I think on selling both to buy a second-hand D850, then I watch videos like this and forget about it because I remember how great the D750 is and if I still need a backup body or more megapixels the D800E is still awesome with good light, I don't plan on switching to mirrorless as I have a big investment on F-mount lenses, so I rather have the D750 and D800E than a single D850
For my activities the DSLR is still alive and well. I use a D7500 for my general purpose camera setup. 20.9 MP would seem to be enough resolution for an image and the files aren’t too big. Also the APS-C lenses are a lot cheaper to buy. I appreciate the advantages of mirrorless systems and they are the future but because I can create some amazing photos on my DSLR, I won’t be getting rid of mine until it dies. Cheers
I bought a d850 to replace my d750 a few years ago. The d750 still comes out, just love it. I also have a horrible 24-70 Tamron lens (we all know the fault it has, now) the d750 can handle that fault but the d850 can't. I have no plans on changing these cameras till I have no choice. Thanks for videos.
Appreciate that you've gotten around to this, Adrian. Thanks for the straight-forward, unbiased comments. I don't have mirrorless as yet, but instead use numerous Nikon DSLRs dating back to the D200 & including both the D700 & D750. Something that you didn't touch upon is the produced file sizes from the D750 vs the D850. I don't have the 850, but have heard from other sources that its larger files might be a bit more cumbersome to work with on less up-to-date computer systems; any comment(s) about this? Stay safe & healthy in your work & travels, mate!
I upgraded my DX D5100 to FX D750 about 5 years ago. I’ve been so pleased with my D750 and happy to learn that people are still buying this amazing camera!
The video I was waiting for!😀 Thanks for doing this D750 vs D850 comparaison video, I own a D750 and think of upgrading to the D850. Your video helped me better understand the differences and have a better idea of whether I should upgrade.
Thank you for the video Adrian, I am thinking of upgrading to an D850 from a D750 as we speak! I was thinking of upgrading to a Z7 II, but I couldn't justify the cost of buying all new lenses.
Very good and useful video -- but did you mention the D780 at all ? Maybe that would be another great camera to choose when not wanting to handle the bigger files of the D850 and not needing it`s better AF System.
I own both as well and I will say that the D750 does a better job of focusing in low light over the D850. The D850 has a tendency to hunt focus a bit. Love having both options at my ready! Great video!!!
At the time I was moving from the D600 to another full frame camera (pandemic/Covid-19), the D850 was out of stock and I chose the D780 in 2021. It's a great camera, but I still wanted the 45 MP's and features of the D850. I have both DSLR's and mirrorless bodies, now and I still say, DSLR's aren't dead. Adriana, since you still shoot/film with your D850; what's your take on its video features?
Thank you, for your review for 2024 on the D850 & D750 I Luv both of these Cameras, there's a couple more things I've learned again, thanks to you, "Adrian Alford" for keeping me up to date, again kudos to you 5/16/24. One of your number one fans, Please don't give up these 2 Cameras, I truly luv hearing what you teach me.! Again ThankYou Boston Massachusetts
I am pleased to own a d750, which I purchased to replace my D800 which was severly damaged in a fall. I apprecieate the dual SD card slots, as well as the U-1 and U-2 settings. I am adding a D810, to have a second full-frame body. Of course, I would like to have a D850, but it strains my budget too much.
Great video, great analysis. I tend to think like you, Adrian. It is all about the photographer. That is the area that needs enhancements. About DSLR vs... I just sold my Lumx G9 and now I have the d850. Actually, I bought 4 Nikon DSLRs (2 FF, 2 aps-c) within the last 13 months. I was an early bird with mirrorless. in 2012 or so. Sony and panasonic. But I got bad results in BIF with those, so I tested and went with Nikon DSLR. In some near future, I will try, again, mirrorless. But, for sure DSLR is not dead! Thanks
Chuck here from Lolo, MT I have a D780 and am thinking of adding a D850. New costs around $2500, like new used $2,000. Thanks for the videos on the D850, I'm sold.
Great comparison between these cameras Adrian. The D750 was my first FF and I still measure cameras I have purchased since against the D750, that DR or shadow recovery when you slide the shadow slider always blew me away. I think if anyone is asking the question which one? the D750 will be a huge advancment over what they probably have, great buy at todays prices. Currently with the 850 it took a while for me to really appeciate it, but now wow I love it. Files are larger and will need a speedy PC to edit and the ergos i love that bit better than the 750. thanks again, cheers terry
I just traded some older gear and kit lenses straight up for a D750 w/24-120 lens on the second hand market. It's a great time to grab this incredible DSLR gear for crazy low prices. Great landscape lenses such as the Nikon 16-35 f4, Tamron 17-35 2.8-4 etc are going for around $300. This opportunity won't last forever so I'm picking up enough of these bargains to set me up for the next 10 years of photography.
The exodus to mirrorless also makes for some great deals in lightly used F-mount lenses. I own a D780 and looking to purchase a D750 for a hydrogen alpha conversion for astrophotography.
Adrian. Very timely as I am seriously thinking about upgrading my D750 to a D850 for my landscape photography.. I still can't make up my mind. I have a 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8 and the 500PF f5.6 that is almost permanently attached to my D500 for my wildlife shots. I have tried bird shots on the D750 but I find the buffer too slow. I am still thinking. Where would you recommend purchasing second hand camera equipment here in Australia? I enjoy your videos, keep them coming.
Thanks for watching. If I were purchasing a D850 second hand, I'd look at camera stores or ebay. Ebay has a no nonsense 30 day money back guarantee. Camera stores also sometimes offer some sort of warranty on their second hand gear. You definitely need somewhere you can return the camera if it's not what they say it is, if you get my drift. Be very careful buying second hand cameras, good luck.
Another top content, thanks Adrian. I am just trying to sell my 810 on x-tree for $1300 but no bites. What should I aim for, it's only got 2200 clicks. I want to get a D850 as we do a lot of travelling and I want to be able to get big prints and I also like cropping like you do.
Thanks for watching - good luck with the sale. I’m trying to sell stuff too but all quiet after xmas. People are broke expecting credit card bills this month id say 🤷♂️
I own a D750 and I love it. Also own aD810 and I'm thinking of upgrading that to the D850. But I don't know.. For stills only you don't need a mirrorless in my opinion.
What a coincidence, I own a D750 for years now and because I’m planning on a upcoming wildlife safari I bought a used D850 yesterday, 15k clicks, no damage, battery grip and 2 battery’s for 1725€ 🤩 Planning on using the 14-24 2.8 on the D750 for landscapes and the 80-400 4-5.6 on the D850 for cropping possibilities with wildlife shots. I love DSLR, the feeling of holding a proper camera, the look through the optical viewfinder directly through the lens. And the ability to repair instead of replace.
Adrian, really enjoyed this video. You bring up some truly important points, you can have the latest Hasselblad with a 100 mp sensor and still take crappy photos. It is all about the skill and technique of the shooter that could make a photo a truly great shot. As far as these cameras go, when I purchased my D850 the other choice was the D750. I got the D850 only because I was able at the time to afford it. As you prove in your test, I would have been just as happy with the D750 as I am with the D850. All that said, if you ae going to be cropping as I do with bird photography then go for the D850. I could go on and on... Anyway, thank you again for a great video.
Thanks heaps for watching. Yeah the D850 for cropping is insane, I love it, especially for birds and wildlife. Hope you have an awesome weekend cheers 🙏📸
This is a very informative video, well explained and very well considered. I use a D7000, D600, D750 and D800 depending on what I am photographing. I have considered part exchanging a couple of cameras towards a D850 but have resisted the temptation. Perhaps I have done the right thing. I rarely shoot above ISO 1000 and I rarely print over 18" x 12", so I doubt the D850 would offer many advantages. It's comforting to hear this from a knowledgeable photographer like yourself and yes I agree, a photographer's technique and skill is often more important than the technical specification of a camera
I've owned a few Nikon cameras and currently use the D850. I've had no complaints about the images I've provided to clients. Though I'd love to buy the Z9 but times are a bit too tough to justify switching any time soon.
I commented after an earlier video that I have two D750s. I've since bought a Z6ii. So far I barely use the new camera. In time maybe I'll adjust to it but so far the quirks of mirrorless are an issue for me. I haven't adjusted to the EV and much prefer seeing the real world in the viewfinder. The smaller size isn't as comfortable for me. Using the F to Z adapter seems to cause some vignetting with some lenses (easily correctable). Not all my F mount lenses will autofocus with the adapter. Battery life is never an issue with the D750s but, as I understand it, it's an issue with all mirrorless cameras. The one feature I do like on the Z6ii is that it's silent but it's mainly if I'm shooting in museums and galleries that I find this an advantage. We can adjust to almost anything in time and I may become a convert but at the moment if I saw a good deal on either a D750 or D850 I'd buy it and try to postpone the day when I'm forced to go mirrorless.
After I upgraded from a D7100 to a D750, I thought to myself, no way I'm going even bigger/heavier than this. In fact I was considering getting a 24-85/3.5-4.5 because of the weight savings compared to my 24-120. I have a 70-300 as well, so I don't really need that additional 85-120mm range. However, I recently went to Costa Rica with the D750 and the Tamron 100-400/4.5-6.3. That's a heavier lens than the aforementioned 70-300. But even at 400mm, I needed to sometimes crop in to get the final composition. With 24MP, you have some latitude, but not as much as with 45MP. However, I also have another thought. In Costa Rica, sometimes I was out with just the D750 and 100-400. If I then wanted to grab a wider shot, I had to use my phone. That is an iPhone 15 Pro, which is not bad, but it's just not the same, operationally and in terms of workflow, as a DSLR. So I was thinking at one point, to get a D7500 and use that with my 100-400 for wildlife, and use the D750 with either the 18-35 or 24-120 for wider shots. Or, maybe I could even get a Nikon 1 J5 used. But that doesn't have a viewfinder, and I'm not sure how well it would work with wildlife. Another consideration, however, is that mirrorless cameras with eye AF would probably yield me more keepers. I used 3D tracking on my D750 most of the time, but only with some of the wildlife shots was it focused where I wanted it to be.
I sold most of my F-mount gear because I wasn’t using it anymore. It was tough to do. I didn’t want to but I just had too much stuff. It wasn’t because of image quality. It was about usage. Mirrorless is still overpriced. The benefits depend on what you are doing. You can’t tell the mirrorless from the DSLR images in my catalog but I do find I like some of the advantages I get shooting with a mirrorless camera. It made no sense to keep 4 camera bodies. One set of gear needed to go. If your priorities change, it’s time to rethink.
Hi Adrian, I guess we are connected through our instagram accounts. I have been following your work & presentations. You might not believe, but I have been shooting all the while with my good very old d90, out of 2 clear reasons - small profile & budget. However, I am seriously considering now to get myself a 850 for the kind of shots I love to take & experiment with now. What would one look for before buying an used 850? Any ideas? Thanks. Best regards
Thanks for watching. Just between you and me I have never bought a second hand camera especially one that costs thousands - just too risky. You just don’t know what you’re getting and why exactly the guy/gal is selling?
@@adrianalfordphotography Hi Adrian, thanks a lot for replying to my message. Yes, I am aware of this potential danger & have been thinking about it over and over. Most probably today I am gonna go to check the camera. Then of course the haggling about the price will be there. If the price is close to the offered price of a new one, my choice will be naturally for a brand new one. Nevertheless, thanks once again for your time. 🙏👍
Good Evening, Adrian! The D850 is the finest DSLR ever made by Nikon to add the vertical grip increase in fps to 9 frames a second and also big file size for heavy crop etc. but D750 Joy uses Great Excellent image quality + Outstanding dynamic range at low ISOs. Excellent high ISO performance. Good buffer depths when shooting JPEGs. New highlight-weighted metering mode. Good performance from the built-in flash.
I agree with your assessment, I too believe the D850 is a fabulous camera DSLR or Mirrorless it is top notch. The only cameras within the Nikon sphere which can better it are the Z9 and Z8 but only in fast focus acquisition. The D850 and D750 image quality is stellar to this day. I moved over to Sony a few years back only to capture birds in flight. The tradeoff is decreased battery life, smaller less ergonomic body for faster focus acquisition. Is the image quality any better? Not if printing letter size. Yes in low-light situations, the Sony is better due to more capabilities at higher ISO. In reality and for anyone wanting to capture landscapes, portraits, astrophotography, there is absolutely no need to go mirrorless. In fact if Nikon chose to upgrade the D850 focus acquisition and improve higher ISO many serious amateurs, and professionals would be quite happy to continue shooting DSLR's.
For buying a DSLR I think it boils down to one question: Are you already invested in the system? If yes then depending on how deep your investment is or what you need I would say it makes sense to buy one of the two in 2024. If you start out however then im not sure because maybe you will want eye tracking, silent shooting or what ever at some point down the road but then you will be already invested in a dead system. High quality stuff is now getting cheaper on the DSLR side but im not sure if adapting t makes to much sense and Switching camera Systems and covering all your previous lenses might get costly! Will one see the differenc? Maybe if you shoot a mirror image of your self... but honestly i doubt anyone cares if an image is taken with a point and shoot or a Fuji X100II anyways. What really matters is to reliably get the results you are looking for. Mine got better when i went from Pentax to Sony FE but it had alot to do with doing postprocessing and reviewing all of my images in a timely manner boosting my learning curve. Btw. I would pick the D750 for its smaller files :D
I love my D7200, D810 and D780. Their feel and handling are a joy. However, when I need critical focus and IBIS with older glass like my f/1.4’s 28mm, 35mm, 58mm and 105mm, I turn to my Z9.
Despite tempting to buy a ZF, I end up buying a used D500 after carefully going through my use-cases. D850 is in the list but D500 better suits my use-cases. DSLR still alive for hobbyists and enthusiasts.
I wholeheartedly agree that the person behind the camera, their technical skill level and compositional artistry are more important than the camera equipment. Having said that, I owned two D750 and a D850 but currently own a Z8 and Z9. My use case is significantly shooting movement shots and I find that the Z8 and Z9 are a joy to use, and even dialing them down to 15fps affords a significantly better hit rate of focus and capturing that magic movement moment I'm after. It I was shooting landscapes and or portraits, then I might still have the D850, While I thought very highly of the D750's, I sold one of them to purchase the D850 and then the second to buy a Z711. Once I went to 46MP, I was hooked on the better resolution of the D850, Z7ii, Z8 and Z9. But I do try to practice constantly to improve my technical skill and composition knowledge and feel., And, the Z lenses are a significant step up in resolution and sharpness from their F-mount counterparts.
DSLR not dead yet ! Battery life with standard or better still the battery grip with larger battery is very good. Always loved the fact you are looking through the lens, with its definition, colour rendition etc More chunky, but that can be a good thing with balancing long lenses on a gimbal, or getting steady hand held shots. The D850 is excellent for cropping in bird photography. Today there is a great value 2nd hand market for D850, D750, D500 etc and lots of quality F mount lenses and even older ais made in Japan lenses too.
Still shooting with a D4S and D800, am thinking about getting a 3rd body since the D4S just passed 400k shutter clicks and the D800 could be better at high ISO. It will likely be the D850 tho D750 plus a lens is a definite possibility, decisions!
I’ve used both and now I only own a D850 which is one of the best cameras available. For me it’s the 850 over 750 because of the dynamic range. But the 750 is an outstanding camera, lighter, smaller and almost as good as the 850. Two legendary Nikons.
For those of us that shoot landscapes, we always hear the d850 is supposed to be the best choice. However, what about the weight- considering that landscape photography involves long hikes sometimes?
I own Z6, Z8 and Z9 and last week I decided to add to my kit a D800!!! Reasons: I have so many f mount lenses, many of them manual focus and there are times when Z9+Z8 are taking videos. Z6 is infrared transformed...and I need a camera to take photos meanwhile Z8 and Z9 take video. I sold my D850 not so long ago(2-3 years ago) and I still regret it. The price for a used D800 is a bargain compared to what it can do.
I'm so happy you did this thorough test as an owner of both models. Just like to report back that I could perfectly see the difference at ISO 6400 between the two cameras but as you say with today de-noise software it's easy to fix. Frankly I got the feeling that I went too far by "upgrading" from the D750 about 2 years ago given my level of photography but I did it because I wanted to have perfect pictures of my new born daughter. What I'm starting to realize more and more recently is the fact that getting eyes - always - sharp is challenging now that she's starting to zoom around and - shame on me - I had a closer look at the Z8. But based on reviews it seems that the eye tracking has some issues compared to the main competitors at that level and I leave it there for the time being. What's your take on my "problem"?
Thanks for watching. I found the eye detect on my “older” Z7 mirrorless running latest firmware update to be pretty good. Not as good as Sony or Canon. I think the Z8 is getting a firmware update improving its focus again. I guess that’s at least one good thing is Nikon are always improving their latest mirrorless cameras 🤷♂️
@@adrianalfordphotography Thank you for taking the time to respond. I will follow the subject and report later in one of your videos. Always a pleasure to follow your work!
Ha ha Trent, caterpillar photographer! Great comparison. I was interested to know what the differences were between the two cameras. In the end both are fantastic cameras, have their different strengths and it's really up who using it, as to what features they need. Thanks for the run down.
I'm coming from a d7100 and love shooting birds with a 150-160 tamron g2 lense. I find it hard to decide whether going for dslm now and investing in a Z7 + ftz or getting a used d850 instead. Used they seem not to be that different in terms of the price, although the dslr option would probably be few hundred bugs cheaper, as I wouldn't need any adapter.
I heard Z7 is not the optimum im terms of af, on the other hand it has a quiet shutter, gives me the versatility of being able to do anything else besides wildlife as well and allows me to invest in zlenses in the future. Any recommondations?
Thèse 2 caméras are great but for my usage (mainly landscape) I still keep my d810 which is sufficient for me. If I needed to upgrade to 45mpix sensor now, the z8 would be a dream … but not in my budget, so a z7 second hand at 1500€ would probably be my choice. The d850 is the best reflex ever made (sorry canon) but I become old and my back wants something lighter now. The mirrorless gets the advantage of the weight and giving the final exposition on the view finder and the view finders of Nikon body are very good now. The optical viewfinder is no more an advantage for me.
My D750 is the longest serving camera body I own for good reason...it flat out works even on 2024! I'm transitioning to mirroless with a Z6II and Zfc and while I'm enjoying the mirrorless experience, I can't seem to part with my D750.
Both are great, I own both, if money isn't an issue just buy the D850 and be happy. In my opinion the D850 is the finest DSLR ever made. Add the vertical grip and use the larger ENEL18 battery and you get a battery that seems to last forever and an increase in fps to 9 frames a second. If money is tight the D750 is excellent and 7fps isn't shabby either. 😊
Hi! Adrian. Awesome review and comparison. (between the D850 and D750 Nikon camera) . I am, on the cross road of upgrading. Your video helped me a lot, in my decision. I think , i will buy the D750 , for practicality and use. ( small and handy). I do my photography, for the the fun of it. Thank you. God bless.
I have the D750 and for me, one advantage of the D750 over the D850, is the weight. For travel photography, my neck and back really notice the extra weight at the end of the day. I noticed this using my D700 which is even slightly heavier (ca. 60g) than the D850.
Love dslr, but would like them to keep developing them and bring tech like focus peaking into the dslr range. Glad mirrorless is becoming so good and people are switching over, it means I can snap up dslr bargains.
I am fortunate enough to have both of these cameras I loves them both & won't part with either one of them, my grandson was starting to give the 750 a run but lacrosse got in the way so when he can he'll give the 7 50 a shot but he's only 11 years old but does like photography, besides when I die he gets both cameras, BTW I already gave my D 810 to my daughter-in-law so she can take better pics of my other 3 granddaughters she loves it too!
When backpacking Europe I bought a d750 in Germany barely used still in the box with the manual for 600 dollars. The f lenses are so much cheaper than the Z I’m not interested in going mirrorless for atleast another 3-5 years
Have you used a d780? I'm trying to decide between d850 and d780 (from a d7200) but there doesn't seem be any videos comparing those. As far as I can tell the main differences are just more megapixels in the 850 and better video stuff (which i don't really care much about) in the 780.
I’m trying to make that decision now as well! D 780 looks amazing, but D850 and the cropping I could do would be amazing, as I shoot landscapes. However, I don’t print, and so am not thinking it’s worth the $500 more for the d850- and dealing with the deed weight on hikes.
@@jm31828 I decided to go for a (used) 850 for the megapixels because I tend to crop often. I think the other features I wanted are on both cameras so the megapixels was really the deciding factor.
@@jm31828 just a little update, I got my 850 today. It doesn't feel any heavier to me than my 7200, so I wouldn't worry about the weight. It's a bit bigger but actually I find it a little more comfortable to hold. It doesn't feel as big as I thought it would. But also I'm used to lugging around my 24-70 2.8 which weighs more than either camera lol.
@@ultratacoRX7 that’s great, thanks for sharing! I went to my local camera shop tonight and held an 850 and agree with you- it was not much heavier feeling than my d7500. I think I’m going to buy it!
I shoot with the D750. To answer your question, the DSLR is dead if the manufacturers are not going to produce them anymore. And that seems to be the market trajectory at this time. I might ask the question, "Do you still shoot with film?" Mirrorless has some advantages, particularly for video. I've toyed with the idea of buying the Nikon Zf, or the Z6II, or Z6III. Unfortunately, my skill level does not justify the need or expense of aquiring more equipment. I've made the same point many times that you made at the conclusion of your video - the photographer takes the photo, not the camera.
To answer your last question, no the DSLR is not dead. Otherwise, I would not have bought my D750 to compliment my D7200. As for the Yoda side-by-side comparison, I do notice that the green looks better in the D850 image and the highlights seem to be better controlled. This might be because of its 45MP BSI sensor as against the D750's CMOS sensor. But...I'm NEVER trading, selling or giving away my D750; love it too much!
I walked into my local Camera store, here in Montreal Quebec and asked to see the Z8. I just wanted to assess the image quality and AF system because I am getting a little older and my eyes are not quite as good as they once were... Although I was very impressed with the AF system, especially in Video mode compared to my D850 the reality is that the Image quality is exactly the same! I took several images with my existing Tamron 85 1.8 lens (DXMark rated sharpness higher than Zeiss Milvus just in case anyone whines about Tamron lenses) and I saw absolutely zero difference in Image quality. That being said, I am aware that the newer Nikkor lenses are rated even better and would pair better with the Z lineup but at this moment, before my eyesight gets too bad, I'll stick to my D850 and Full lineup of lenses. Maybe one day if I win the lottery and have tons of cash to throw away or I begin shooting high speed sporting events. Great video by the way.
Sounds like you have your act together there Rodney. I'm so glad you went into a camera store first and tried the Z8 camera out before buying blindly (which a lot of people do based on cleverly marketed products). The D850 is a remarkable camera and I will always be a proud owner. Enjoy your weekend 🙏
Nice comparison, but my dilemma was even closer to the bone: D780 vs D850. Solution? I have both - both have been heavily discounted :( Yes, perhaps I could have bought a Z8 for double the money, and I would like one, but the elephant in the room (entire new lens collection) puts me off. It would have been good to feature the newer D780 in this video as well. Again there are advantages both ways. From what I can tell, the ISO range of the D780 is better than the D850, though resolution is lower. D780 is about 20% lighter in weight. D850 has a better focusing mechanism. So D780 is more suitable for night photography and carrying around, D850 better for hi-res and cropping.
What brand of lenses do you recommend for the D850, some of the Nikon lenses are a bit out of my price range right now. Which filter brand is most versitle for lens range?
I use Nikon AF-S lenses. But there are good Tamron and Sigma lenses out there. I use Kase filters for ND and CPL - but again Haida and Freewell make some good filters too.
That's so awesome to hear. I make money too with the D750 for food and product photography. I even made a video on it - ruclips.net/video/xDKXfevVhuo/видео.html Thank you very much for watching 🙏
Yes and yes almost absolutely except the Z mirrorless cameras' have access to the better wide angle and standard S lenses and standard zooms. A bit more compact and more accurate too. That mirror gets in the way of ultimate wide angle lens design and sometimes focus accuracy. However that D850 is most desirable, not least for the access to brilliant 3rd party lenses from the likes of zeiss, tamron and sigma.
DSLR is not dead. There's something about the optical viewfinder and not imagining how the exposure will bring out what's before me that is part of my photographic joy. A creative wondering . . . .
I only own DSLR's(D700, D7100 and D850), but I do think that there is no denying that mirrorless is the future. Is the DLSR dead, well in some ways yes, there won't be more lenses, and there won't be more cameras so in that regard it is truly dead. But even though that is IMHO a fact, the camera itself ain't dead. Sure you can't do eye tracking of a bird or people with the same accuracy as a mirrorless but the quality of the technical part of the pictures are still on par with mirrorless. People have for many, MANY years managed to take great pictures without any eye tracking - which in my mind is the biggest + for mirrorless. Mirrorless may make it easier to catch a great shot, but only if you know what you are doing in regards to composition etc. Those who know how to use an old DSLR will still take good pictures and even a Nikon d700 is a great camera today IMHO.
If I was forced to sell or choose just one of these cameras… I would regretfully sell the D750 as I use the D850 more in the type of photography I do nowadays. But I count myself very lucky to own both cameras and don’t have to sell either 🤙
I should also mention the Nikon D850 has focus peaking in live view and the ability to do focus stacking.
Thank you for your view, like
You I luv both the D850 & D750. It's great to know others feel the same.!

I bought the D750 when it first came out and just cannot part with it, even after I got the Z7. Thinking of purchasing the Z8 but I'll still keep the 750. It's like an old friend to me. When I finally retire it, I'll put it on the shelf with the rest of my collection of vintage cameras.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting cheers 🙏📸
Kudos to you, I will not get rid of my D750 as well.! Boston Massachusetts
@@tomlew55 smart. Love that camera
- Doc
Many thanks for watching and sharing your experience and thoughts. Have a great weekend.🙏
Both are great cameras. Nice comparison. Yoda looks right at home in your garden!
Thanks Phil. Yeah Yoda’s day spa out there 😂
A well-presented explanation. I have the D750 and love it. It is bullet-proof. If I buy an 850 I would keep the 750. Thanks Adrian.
I agree. The 750 is a classic and still holds up very well.
Crackin start to the Video, Mate! Excellent Review/ Comparo !!!
Many thanks for watching and sharing your findings 🙏
Cheers Shaun thanks for watching mate. Hope you have an awesome weekend over there 👍🙏
I love my d750! I’m actually considering buying a d850 to go along with the 750!
TonyH
Many thanks for watching Tony 🙏
DSLR isn't dead! I have D780 & D850 I find I'm using the D780 more than the D850, in fact I haven't picked up my D850 in 12 months. The D780 excels in low light I've shot at ISO 32,000 an get useable images. Thank you for your informative videos.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting 🙏
@@brianwillert2833 and the d780 has focus peaking and focus stacking- a couple of features where the 850 won out against the d750.
Thanks for this video, great job!
thanks Adrian, great comprison video. I own Z8 and also still.using D7100 for astrophotography and star trails.
Great to hear! Have a great weekend mate - thanks for watching 🙏📸
Nice comparison....as a landscape shooter I kept the D850 and traded in the D750 for a Z7. But there are times I miss the D750. Thank you for these videos.
Thank you for watching Tony. Much appreciated 🙏
definitely agree with you, the skill is with the people.....i own Zf and i wont ever sell my D750........yes mirrorless has the advantage on AF and articulating screen.....make your workflow much easier....that is why my D750 is used mainly for landscape and my Zf is used for people :)
Perfect set up you have. Thanks so much for watching 🙏
Still using d750 for photo and video. For video, I do manual focus with LCD viewfinder 3x magnifier . Good budget camera
Thanks for watching 🙏
Hi Adrian, a great video, buddy! 👍And it shows quite well the dilemma of the camera industry: how can they make the upcoming models interesting enough to bring us to upgrade? 🙂
But it is definitely interesting what will come next. We will see.
Thank you for the video, enjoy your weekend,
Christian
Thank you for watching Christian. Yes camera companies always have another model coming out every week it feels like. Have a great weekend buddy 📸🙏
I bought the D750 2nd hand and it's been a beautiful camera! Bought many a 2nd hand lens as well for it and all have been spectacular! I'm sure there are many advantages to the mirrorless, but considering the price, I believe this was a better route.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting 🙏
Fantastic comparison. I have a D750 and I am very happy with it. In fact, after watching this channel, I've just bought another second hand one on Ebay at a reasonable price, although it hasn't arrived yet. So I hope to keep using my D750 for a long time to come. Although I don't usually comment on the videos because of my difficulty with English, I am addicted to this channel. I live in the Canary Islands, on the other side of the world. Thank you for your videos.
Many thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 🙏
Your English is perfect. Better than most native English speakers 😂
D850 perfect choice - especially if you're staying in the DSLR world - thank you for watching
Great video. I bought the D750 new in 2015 and it has been all over the world, and like yours, never missed a shot. It's a keeper.
Really appreciate you watching and commenting enjoy your weekend 🙏

@@vueport99 No because it's basically the same as the D750 with improvements for video and I don't shoot video
Cheers
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts
I bought a d850 to replace my d750 a few years ago.
The d750 still comes out, just love it. I also have a horrible 24-70 Tamron lens (we all know the fault it has, now) the d750 can handle that fault but the d850 can't.
I have no plans on changing these cameras till I have no choice.

I own the D850 and 750.. incredible cameras
Thank you so much for watching 🙏
Congratulations on the excellent comparison between these two cameras. Thanks

Many thanks for watching Terry 🙏
own a D750 , happy with that one. Thinking of getting a D780 😄
Thank you for watching much appreciated 🙏
I want to get a D850
as we do a lot of travelling and I want to be able to get big prints and I also like cropping like you do.
Thanks for watching - good luck with the sale. I’m trying to sell stuff too but all quiet after xmas. People are broke expecting credit card bills this month id say 🤷♂️

What a coincidence, I own a D750 for years now and because I’m planning on a upcoming wildlife safari I bought a used D850 yesterday, 15k clicks, no damage, battery grip and 2 battery’s for 1725€
🤩
Planning on using the 14-24 2.8 on the D750 for landscapes and the 80-400 4-5.6 on the D850 for cropping possibilities with wildlife shots.
I love DSLR, the feeling of holding a proper camera, the look through the optical viewfinder directly through the lens. And the ability to repair instead of replace.
that sounds like a sweet deal!
Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts. Have a fantastic weekend 🙏📸
The 850. I really liked my D750……but the D850 is a great camera to use. It is probably the best DSLR ever made by Nikon.
Thanks for watching 🙏
Thank you for watching and sharing your experience and thoughts. Have a great weekend 🙏
Thanks so much for watching and sharing your experience 🙏
Best of luck in your decision and thank you for taking the time to watch my video 🙏
@@adrianalfordphotography just subscribed!! 🙂
Precisely why I bought a Z7. For long hikes. But it does not match the image colours and quality of the D850
@@adrianalfordphotography would the colors of the d750/d780 be similar to what you get out of the d850?
Hi Adrian, great video. I have got a question about autofocus, I am a street photographer, not considering their weights, what are your thought?
Either one - D850 has more diverse focusing ability though
Have a Nikon D850 and D7000 with quite a few F Mount Lenses now.
Ha ha Trent, caterpillar photographer! Great comparison. I was interested to know what the differences were between the two cameras. In the end both are fantastic cameras, have their different strengths and it's really up who using it, as to what features they need. Thanks for the run down.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching, have a great weekend 📸🙏
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and watching the video. Have a great weekend 🙏
@@ultratacoRX7 thanks for the response!
The DSLR is alive & kicking for me as I don't like shooting with EVFs. Give me a solid DSLR with mirror & a proper OVF every time.😊
I really like the D750!
Me too. I have a soft spot for it.
@@adrianalfordphotography thank you
i bought the d750 in 2023 for products & food photography & still making a lot of money from this camera till now
That's so awesome to hear.
If I purchase a D750 after my D7100 broke, I would had never gone mirrorless. But when I had to replace my D7100, the Z5 was in my budget.
Thank you for watching 👍🙏
DSLR is not dead. There's something about the optical viewfinder and not imagining how the exposure will bring out what's before me that is part of my photographic joy. A creative wondering . . . .
Thanks for watching Denise 🙏
Other considerations. The 850 is more rugged and better weather sealed, but the 750 is lighter and smaller.
Buy the one which best suits your needs, pure and simple.
no DLSR is not dead.... I do have a D500 and D750... Also a Z50 and a 1982 Nikon FG for my film photography in Black & White.....
