This ISO test demonstrates the differences between the Nikon D800, D600 and D4. This new generation of FX full frame cameras provide improved dynamic range and great signal to noise capability. Additionally the D700 was also used in this testing to compare the newer cameras to the prior generation from Nikon.
The data is primarily empirical yet comparable. Наука
I'm very impressed that the d700 a significantly older body could still produce results that to the naked eye would be hard to distinguish
i agree completely. in fact the d700 with battery pack can shoot faster than the d800 and d610 d600. i believe the fps is 8 on d700... pretty impressive camera for its age.
Even a blind man can see with his ears that D700 is clearly the worst of them all. Clearly.
@@briantobey shooting portait or landscape fps are not important when using a d800e.
Just purchased d700 & 28-70 2.8 , to add to my collection of nikons and its a excellent camera, although down on specs , it still delivers superb images, love it
this is the real deal! Thanks for the most informative video to date about this, and Thanks for all the work here, keep up the amazing work!
Great review! It is the best I've seen or read to explain the performance differences of the current FX line as well as the older, benchmark, D700.
A fantastic review and very in-depth, educational comparison of four cameras. I really appreciate it!
excellent excellent excellent...one of the most informative reviews of noise in these cameras i have seen yet. thank you for your hard work and sharing it with us.
Great Video Brian, you obviously put lot of thought and effort into that test. Really appreciate the detailed and technical approach, with a review of the performance of the four cameras side by side. Kudos for the D600. Love the line "hangs with the big guys" Great job and thanks for the efforts.
This is really great. First video I've watched of you, but I'll be coming back for sure. Thank you!
Thanks for the positive feedback.
Brian Tobey Hopefully you can get your hands on the so-called D750. I was going to get a D610 + 85 1.4, but decided wait a few weeks. Glad I did. This kind of comparison is the perfect mix of real world and stats. Cheers.
EddieLivesOnLincoln I hope too. Looking forward to the high FPS.
Thank you for the technical depth of this video. Very few reviews will ever go there yet this is the kind of objective information we need to help understand the performance of these cameras
I am SOOOOO looking forward getting my D610!!!!I am jumping from the D3100 and this video helped me a lot....amazing job!!Greetings from Greece!!
The D610 will be a big step up. I used a D90 back in 2009 in the island of Rhodos, what a beautiful place you live.
Thank you my friend...beautiful place with the worst politicians...: )))Anyway good to hear from you and watch these very informative videos!
Excellent review on every level. Thank you for taking the time to go into detail and technical background.
Thanks for the iso tests. Appreciate the effort!
Really love this. Great job Brian. I wish you could update this using some of the newer cameras like th D810, D750, even the D850. I want you to keep the D4 / D4s in the mix just the same though. I am thinking it will still win with the ISO and Dynamic range.
Thanks. It was harder to do the review than I initially envisioned.
Glad I could help. Although its not a fully precise lab test, it does show some of the practical aspects of the cameras.
This is Crazy Good review. I must admit, I didn't expect this in the first 2 minutes.
Then you got my 100% attention. Probably one of the best technical review of the cameras you can find.
Still this won't make anyone a great photographer but it helps crazy on picking the right camera.
I got one D800 and was playing with the idea of having a d600 as backup for weddings.
Now you convinced me. It is a huge value!
Thanks a million - this was more than great! It was excellent!
Hi Brian, Thanks so much for this very clear detailed review between those cameras.
Thank You so much for this information!! This was exactly what I needed to know before making a decision on which full frame Nikon to purchase. Great Job!
Hey Brian,
Great work - thank you very very very much for sharing with us!
Thanks for an awesome comparison of these cameras! Thanks for sharing!
Really great post work on this video. Great concept also. Would have liked to see the D3s in place of the older body. The D3s vs. the D4 is still remaining in a close competitive arena with each other... Either way, great info, well laid out and really well presented. Thanks for your time and effort.
Thanks a lot for so great report with amazing details to study! Really fine job!
Excellent review. Thanks for taking the time to share this valuable information with us. I think your input and expertise has really influenced my decision I have been pondering for my small business, and it validates my exact thoughts as well.
Wow, impressive review. Thank you so much!!!
Awesome review, this is serious work for sure. Thanks a lot.
Glad you enjoyed it. It is a difficult topic to cover. I had to go into some technical details, otherwise it would be incomplete.
Yea I am really impressed with the D600. Glad to hear you enjoyed the comparisons. It is a complex subject matter, and I find it difficult to explain succinctly. Thanks again.
Brian
Thank you for sharing. Great information to be had here. Looking forward to more, yes I did subscribe.
Hey thanks! I hope to have more videos soon!
Very good. I have a D600 and I´m very happy with it. Thanks from Portugal
Very informative . But can you do a video explaining what is better . Or explain . The nikon D800 aps mode vs Nikon TC-14E II (1.4x) Teleconverter ? Is this necessary considering the fact that you get exta reach with APS mode ? And also in FX mode you get higher resolution . So you can crop to get closer . So which is better ?
A comprehensive assessment of the #Nikon #D600 #D700 #d800e and #D4 in terms of dynamic range and ISO performance.
Well done!
Thanks Dominic Urbano
I hope to have more informational videos soon!
if your test shows D600 beat the D700 in image quality then your video is misleading
just go to the DXO test to know.
D610 blows d700 away. Dxomark rates it 14 points higher than d700.@mingshan4135
Excellent video Brian. Very in depth as well. Found it interesting when you said you didn't see a big difference IQ wise between 5D III and the D800. I have a 5D III and have been interested in a D800 or the E version because of the current discounts. Not like I really need it. You did such a good job in this video though I am considering the E version. Have a good one and keep making video comparisons and reviews. Your site is also pretty tight.
Great review. Detailed and relevant. Thank you.
Very nice!! answered lots of my questions.
Thanks for the kind words. Feel free to suggest other tests that may be pertinent. All of these cameras are great tools. I am glad you concur with the outcome of the testing. Thanks again.
Fell in love with the d700 and see the used prices are dropping. But today you helped me decide on the d600. Thanks for this.
Nice work! very well done! I had a look on your website also, very interesting!
Thanks for sharing and taking your time!
Cheers
very informative, scientifically analysis ! best review for cameras Iv ever seen, Im very happy with my D800e since I moved up from D90
thanks for your nice comment. The d800e is a big step up from the d90. I love the d800e.
I'll Say, I used to be a d90 shooter as well, its by far the best starter cam i've ever used and now my sis is learning with it, Im using a d600 now and upgrading to d800 in the next week or so!! thanks so much for your review m8 helped me pick out my first and second full frame cam
Very thorough review, very good. thanks
Wow. An intelligent presentation of some great information. Great info.
So basically, don't use uselessly high ISOs.
Great Vid man! Very informative!
Great comparison! Thank you for this video!! ..... which camera would you choose for weddings and events in general out of the 4 you compared.
great review.I have a D800. but many review says D700 is better than D800 in high ISO performance.
You wont be disapointed d 700 way superior on ISO !
great review.I have a D800&D600
KEEP GOING WITH REVIEWS .
PLEASE
Sure, what is your question regarding the display settings?
Excellent review! Thanks so much!
but if you crop the d4 up to size beside the d800E shouldn't the compare similar to the d4 in iso noise
Excellent test. Well done! I have a D800.
Awesome Kev. I hope to have more quality videos. I am so limited on time. But who cares, in the end. Just got to get it done! Thanks for watching, and subscribing.
Спасибо за сравнение , очень интересно, и наглядно.
d700 is better iso in shadow parts for me than the d800. D700 for me is better iso than to my d800 hands down
Great informative video. Thanks
U could be the next big nikon channel ill support u thanks
How did you measure the Signal to Noise ratio? Thanks for this good review.
Great review!!!
Super
Thanks for the great review! but in real situation such as wedding would you still prefer the 600 over the 700 even if the 700 focuses faster? I wanted to accomplish high IQ without missing the moment due to AF issues. Cheers!
Well i just got back from a wedding and found my D800 gave me autofocus trouble. Maybe its me, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I think overall the D600/D610 is just as good at focusing as the D700. The only camera that I found has amazing autofocus is the D4. The D4 has the best autofocus response, even better than the D3.
Great review.. makes sense if you understand your requirements when shooting.. D600 despite not getting the attention as the D4 & D800 would be a great overall practical camera to have in the bag.. Thanks
Thank u was extremely helpful your review !
How do I change focus points settings on control panel display ? I can't find settings where i can change. Thanks In advance
Are we able to see more details on a normal pc screen with the d800 vs d700 ? or is it the case when sizing the picture?
Great video Brian...very informative...along the same topic I was wondering if you could tell me your opinion on the following question I've been posing to various people...I shoot with the D7000 and have enjoyed it's low light performance and video abilities but was really pining at getting into full frame...especially since the emergence of the D600, with all of it's bang for the buck...my question thought is why are there so many youtube videos showing the 6D outdoing the D600 in lowlight?
You, the most comprehensive i've seen.
Great comparison thank you
Very Nice test. However, the D3s may have been a better comparison with the new technology cameras opposed to the D700. What are your thoughts on the D3s if it was to be included in your test? Again, very nice test. Thanks.
I like the D3s. Certainly it has greater performance at higher ISOs, than the D700 and possibly the D4. But I find the D3s has clumsy controls compared to that of the newer cameras. Maybe I am just acclimated to the newer cameras now.
i still love my D700
Superb video! Thanks!
Thank you very much. You really helped me a lot. I think Nikon had found a new way to improve the high ISO performance by resizing a large photograph just like D800.But I have a question that when to resize the photograph? On computer or just choose the mid-size JPG at first (I know RAW just can be choosed in 14-bit or 12-bit, but I cannot use RAW all the time)?
I own the D4, D700 and the D7000.. The D4 is a game changer. Yes, I did rent the D800 & E and the D600. But the D4 made the 1st string. Great Video
what do you mean by when resized? because also my d800 produces so much noise than to my d700 and i regret buying this camera now. I dont get what you mean?
Am i right in saying that d4 is about 1 stop faster than d3s?
It's really
Good job!
you could do 3rd party speed light tests or the d800 vs the sony a99. the d700 is a good camera but, if you were to buy one now it would be increasingly difficult to get it serviced, no?
Respect!! It helped me a lot, Thank you
Sorry I did not provide the info. I would suspect it to be a near linear interpolation. One thing is that the D800E has so much pixels that by reducing it to 7MP has a huge gain. However, had I reduced down to 12MP or 16MP, the story may have shifted slightly. Especially at the higher ISOs. You see the resize function is based on the starting pixel count to the resulting pixel count. However, this function does have some diminishing returns. I think this discussion should be expanded.
What real world application requires a D4 and ISO25600?
Love the video! But would have loved to see the calculations done for ISO6400 and 12800!
Cheers
Anyone of these cameras are great for weddings. I would recommend some good prime lenses to go along with them. But if you were to ask me which I prefer, no question, the D4 outperforms. It's response to focus and handling of controls is so quick. In the end its hard to put it in words, but the D4 is the Cadillac.
But I still stand by my statement. All of these cameras are excellent. I shot over 20 weddings using two D700 with great results. The D600 is also fantastic.
Thanks for watching and your comments.
Hi Brain, Nice video. I was wondering if you own D800e and D4 ? I have 1 question regarding D800e Control panel display settings. I hope you can help me.
Thanks for watching
Just curious, what are you shooting video with? Thanks :)
What did you use for the filming of this material?
Dude. Very. Well. Done. Enjoyed the vid. You are the "shizzle!"
Thank you for comparing these cameras. Really helpfull! Also, it's fine you've used MATLAB :)
Glad to hear
Great video thanks a lot
Well it is a complex topic. The D800 is definitely a superior camera in terms of image quality and ISO when resized. Overall, these are all great cameras. Thanks for your feedback.
Great review thanks for sharing. :-D
How come you stopped making videos?
why don't you make more videos? :p
I love the D700.
well done!
Nikon D3200. Thanks for watching!
I've yet to see any DSLR produce 'useable' results past 6400.
AGREED.. the D4s/D4 can almost at 12800
Agreed!
Not a problem. Send me your NEX 6. Although the NEX 6 has a similar sensor to the D7000, so it would not be much of a comparison. Nor would it compare apples to apples due to the sensor size difference.
