the D800 always struck me as a studio/wedding/landscape camera. The D600 D700 D4 etc are your bread and butter cameras for a bunch of purposes.

To get the best results with the D800 you definitely need to use top glass for best results.

Out of all the tutorials I watched yes they were helpful but yours helped me the most. I mean your aperture video with the aperture chart was awesome. It was so clear I got it right away. Thank you!

Its very strange the D600 pulls out a better pic to the eye than a D800. What was the D-lighting on? (auto?) or off? Was any of the settings on custom, vivid or standard on both cameras? Lets do this test again with the d7100 vs D600 when it arrives mid month. P.S. You need to match your volume levels in your video, its hard to hear in some parts, I turn the volume up and then it transition to the next scene and it is super loud. Thanks. Keep up the videos.

Just wondering if you took the pictures on the D600 with Active D lighting while the D800 since you just got it from the store no tweaking had been done probably made the D600 with more contrast.

just use your audio meters on the lcd - keep them consistently about -12db (by manually adding or subtracting audio gain) while recording. Keep your mic placement similar during your setups... Clean up in post...

to each camera. That is what I mean by profile. Again I still say there is more detail in the arches above the front doors of the chapel. It is clearly visibile the D800 extracts more detail because of better sensor latitutde, imo. B profile I'm referring to what you would create with an iPro 2 by xrite for instance.

I remember at my father's wedding in 2001 the photographer had a few SLRs and a medium format. I think that the D800 would be nice for your group shots. I do agree it is a bit much for everything else, but a nice sub for when in the film days you had to carry two sets of cameras. Now you could use something with a bit smaller images like a D3 or D700 and use a D800 for the sub as a medium format without the need of the extra lenses. Just a thought.

I do not count any low light focus test when using a speed light or AF assist lamp.
I'd like to test against a low contrast target without the above aids. That will give you real low light focus test results. Have you done a test like this yet?

D600=Entry level fx camera, and D800=serious enthusiast/professional photographer. from my perspective, most professional will use a D4 or D800-800E as main camera and D600 as sub camera (2nd). no offense 39AF points vs 51AF also the flash sync speed d800 better for me as doing commercial work.

Please compare the way you change things on this two different cameras, Iso, metering ,af type and other things which are important to change instantly in some situation;setting which on lower end bodies one has to go into the menu. Keep the videos coming.

I'm retired from my old Pro Photography and Firefighting careers :-) I learned on the old film cameras like the Nikon F2AS and the Hasellblad C-500 film. When me and my Wife had a chance too meet Dr. Charles Stanley world known Baptist preacher and he also shots outdoor stuff. I found out he uses Hasellblad Medium format digital cameras. Talk about no noise, LOL. Now I know why they run 30K per camera. I don't need 36 MP but if I am going to spend 2K on a camera, NO spots for me :-)

congrautlations on making such a concentrated effort to compare the cameras. I'm not seeing the same thing you are though. without knowing what optics you're using and AF fine tune, etc.. the D800 has clearly better latitude, shadow detail and resolution. ex. see arches above door in church. Differences in color could simply be a variance in camera profile as well. I wouldn't say D600 is better in any aspect at all. Cheers. DxO ranks D600 behind D800 as well. Cheers.

Hi Jibran, I am a big fan of your tutorials and have learnt a lot really. I own a Nikon D7000 with two lenses: 18-105 and 50mm f/1.4 g lens. As I do more research, there are so many lenses available that it just gets confusing. Like what's the main differences between 80mm versus 50mm. Which one suits which occasion, etc. can you do a tutorial on different lenses and suggestions on which lenses suit various situations please?

I just wanted to say thank so sooo much for these videos. I am barely starting photography as a teenager its hard for people to take you seriously sometimes but I love photography. As an amateur I was wondering I wanted to start taking some portrait shots for friends a family couple extra bucks in my pocket. I have a t4i with a 18-135mm STMr lens, would that be a good camera for portrait shots?
Again thanks for all the videos keep up the great work :D

Thank you for the answer! Last month there i have seen only 1 used D3s on the marked here in Norway, but i didnt get it. Thats why i was looking at these two. I know the files are huge on the D800, that's the only reason i havent bought it yet. Will rule out D600 now..and keep searching for D3s some more :)

    Hi there:
Do you have any review about the Nikon D600 performance (by itself, not comparing it with another model)) and what about the "dust sensor" problem? (I've been informed it's on the upper left corner of the sensor).
I've read some articles saying it's not a big deal and others saying it's a big issue on a full-frame camera which should be at a higher standart?
Thanks for the possible info you can give and for all the rest of reviews and information, great job!

I don't really like the lighting on you and that your hands are out of focus, I feel as if you focused on the chair before sitting down as the chair seems to be sharper than you,
other than that, I feel your video was really relevant to answering the questions I had in my mind, I'm more into concert photography, is there any other camera that is sufficient for that ? I am currently using a D5100 as I didn't find it important to upgrade till now.

  • @trevorpinnocky
    @trevorpinnocky 11 лет назад

I simply don't agree that DxO is a joke. It's nothing more than scientific comparison of sensor performance which will change in real world settings. no guarantee your samples will match. AF tune because some of your captures are out of focus which obscures details, esp in shadows. I only mentioned possible profile issues because of variance in color balance between the cameras. Every sensor has a different range which is why we calibrate our monitors to create a color profile specific to each

Hey dude I have been using my D700 since it came out love te camera, but I've been thinking of making the leap to D600 for the Full Frame sensor and just finally eave the DX world. Is it a good idea? Is the difference that much to warrant gettin the D600? If I get the D600 I will only have a 50mm 1.8G and an 85mm 1.8G to shoot with (I only do senior portraits)
    should I go for it?

hahaha xD only problem with the d610 is that it is only an 330$ price difference here in sweden on that one and the d800 :< while there's a 670$ difference on d600 and d610, and it feels like there's n't enough of an upgrade on the d610 that it would be worth 670$ more than the d600 (more than the oil problem some people seem to have) :P i am scared of picking wrong here XD
