    I am basically a photojournalist, but I don't shoot much sports. That said, I started pro photography part time at age 16, almost 60 years ago. there were no auto anything then, and photographers made fantastic sports photography with manual everything. I still use the D800 in 2021, and I can do almost everything that I could do with a D850, although I can't say that about the Z9. I recently bought the Topaz Labs Gigapixel, Denoise AI, and Sharpen AI. Those apps bring my images much closer to what I could get with the newest cameras. I'm going to buy another D800 rather than a Z9 or D850. Well, maybe a D850 later.

      do you still love the D800? I had focusing issues with one and sold it but just purchased on used on eBay with the serial number in the range of the "fixed focus issues" In other words over 305,000 SN- anyways- its coming in the mail soon- I did not got a D850 because its still too much for my budget - but reading your review I kind of hope I wont want to D850 instead- lol- thanks for your positive perspective - the D800 seemed amazing to me, but the focusing issues drove me nuts- I hope the new to me one does not have that isse- I have a D750 which is good but believe or not the D800 seemed BETTER and felt more like a true film camera- cheers :)

    One below the D800 in full-frame cameras would be the D600. In the APS-C /DX camera bodies the D7100 would be the next model below that to consider. Both have some automated and plenty of advanced features to allow yourself to shoot in whatever modes you're comfortable with. - Yossi

    Every time someone says that a pro DSLR aka d800-d800e-d810 cameras is not for amateurs makes me want to buy it just to prove others wrong I'm a amateur and proud....lol

    I bought one from B&H. There's a big learning curve, but I'm liking it. Contrary to what I've read elsewhere, size DOES matter. I've taken several informal group snaps where I've caught someone in the shot who is (accidentally) wonderfully composed and lighted. I've been able to crop to an 8X12 with no noticeable noise and produce a really nice photo with LR. Awesome!

    I agree... but considering there is still nothing else like the D800 resolution wise it's still relevant as heck. It still basically is the first moderate medium format res in a dslr package.

    See Philip Bloom's shoot out between the d800 and 5d mark 3. The d800 is a huge improvement for Nikon in video and just falls a bit short. It's not a nock on the Nikon, just the current crop of canon (1dx and 5d mark 3) are amazing cameras.

    haven't bothered with bracketing ages, you rarely need it these days for "HDR", you can pull out details no problem in most situations

  • @BoldtCave

    :) Funny But to be fair, they aren't journalists competing against tech mags\blogs. They are a retail store. This is a product information video about a product they sell so that when you are comparing cameras you can look at their overview. The D800 will be around for a long time so it's no hurry. At that price it's not a fast moving bracket that pumps out millions and millions of copies, so even though it's been a year since they hit stores there aren't that many out there in people's hands.

    Moire depends on the camera model. Canon removed their AA filter in the 60D and 6D, causing moire just as bad as what we've seen from some Nikon models. I like having an AA-filterless camera, but it has drawbacks. I shoot on a 60D and a 5D Mk3.

    I hear a lot of folk saying that canon is better because it handles low light better but lets be realistic here how often does a Photographer or videographer shoot in low light? 2ndly what pro camera owner doesn't have lights to comphensate for potential low light situations......now question number 2....how many people look for the highest RESOLUTION in a photo? almost EVERYONE so that is what makes this camera superior......now it may not be a sports camera but every camera lacks something that another camera has.......thats how nikon and canon make their money!

  • @pualux
    @pualux 11 лет назад +1

    the canon handles low light better and their cameras handle moire much better than the nikon ones but that said the nikon is amazing for still images. it's a matter of what you want from your camera. --I have the d800.

    Good Morning Sir, with all Respect. My name is Rajan & I am from India, I am 85% Physically Challenged (Orthopedically- Slow to move around) but I love photography. Sir I have being watching your videos and studying about basic of cameras. As I am so love with photography & a beginner I thought to get a bank loan and buy Canon 5d mark III with a kit lens. But after watching your video I thought to go for Nikon D800. My budget is 3000 US $. Current price of canon Nikon D800 DSLR Camera (Body only) is 2400 US $. Again in my budget I have 600 US $. So what Lens should I buy First also battery grip, tripod and flash light in my small budget. I travel in scooter and take pictures in mobile and my Canon point and shoot camera. Sir please help me out to choose a best lens that I need to buy, also the lenses which i should buy later so I can save money and buy. I like to take Portraits, sceneries, macro photos and far photo(because I won’t be able to move like others to the subject closer if it is moving). Please suggest me a good advise what I should and not to do. With my disability I am confused to take which lens please do suggest me Sir, a good advice. Thank you for the wonderful work, may God bless you sir.. Waiting for a reply..

      The D800 was originally announced by Nikon in early 2012 and has since been discontinued and replaced by the current version the D810. Unfortunately we no longer carry the D800, nor are there any used versions available. The D810 as it is currently priced would take up the majority of the budget you had provided. It is also important to note that Nikon restricts us from accepting orders with shipping addressed outside the USA. In general, given the budget, I would suggest either the Nikon D610 or Nikon D750 as alternative Full Frame DSLR options that would provide excellent image. The Tamron 28-300mm Lens would be a very versatile pairing, and would provide both wide angle and telephoto functionality. You could add a battery grip, the Vello - BG-N10 Battery Grip, or Vello - BG-N15 Battery Grip depending on what body you end up choosing. The grip though may not be entirely necessary as this will add extra weight and a full charge on 1 battery should easily last you a whole day when shooting stills. The Davis & Sanford Voyager Lite Tripod with BHQ8 Ball Head is a great value for the cost and would be more than adequate for use with this setup. For flash the Nikon SB-700 AF Speedlight is a great midrange option, but I would suggest the Metz mecablitz 44 AF-1 digital Flash for Nikon Cameras which provides similar reliable performance at nicer price point.All the recommended accessories would fit within the $3000 budget and you can find the links to each item below. - Andrea O askbh@bhphoto.com bhpho.to/1iXS7Gobhpho.to/1xTfitVbhpho.to/NWNsrxbhpho.to/1Or4evZbhpho.to/1MkLuIQbhpho.to/1c18FdKbhpho.to/JAjW91bhpho.to/1eKsUfk

    I'm amateur photographer and I prefer full FX bodies specially this D800 because it's much easier to use than D600 or all of DX bodies like D7100 down to basic, it's just my opinion

    Is the Nikon D800 good for astrophotography ?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  9 лет назад

      It could be used for astrophotgraphy, but the sensor and the camera in general are not optimized for this task, and compared to models which are would not produce the same results. Nikon recently released a special astrophotography version of the D810 camera called the D810a. The D810a he D810A enables high-resolution images of H-alpha emission nebulae and other celestial objects, as well as the capturing faint star systems and star-trail images. The D810, with its high-resolution sensor, omitted low-pass filter and low-noise ISO sensitivity up to 12800, is the ideal camera to photograph distant, and at times, impossible-to-see objects in the night sky. See the link below for details on the recommendation. - Yossi

      Thanks for your respond.. Am looking for a camera to do landscape,seascapes and astrophotgraphy any recommendations ?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  9 лет назад

      kama sylvester If you're not looking for a dedicated camera for just astro work, then the D810 (non-A version) would be the best recommendation for detailed land/seascapes and also the astrophotography. It won't handle astrophotography quite as well as the specialty model discussed previously, but it could be used for the application nonetheless. See the following link for details on the body. ?
