Syntakt by Elektron is a synth groovebox. In this video we unbox the Syntakt and take it for a music performance demo. In the demo I try to highlight a few different performance ideas and sound design possibilities with the Syntakt. At first I didn't really get along with the Syntakt. The basic init sounds felt a bit bleak. I guess you really have to make it your own to glue with it. With that I mean you have to start crafting your own sounds with the synth engines, lfos. There is a ton of different digital sound engines to choose from which all have their own parameters and sound sculpting tools. There are also 4 analog tracks. All the tracks on the Syntakt can be swapped to different sound engines. But track 1-8 will always be digital sound engines, and track 9-12 will always be analog engines. (Track 12 is specialized on hi-hat / noise). The track you hear during the unboxing is an ambient track made with the Syntakt, I wanted to highlight it's not only for drum sounds. Nice sounds. I've been wrestling with my Syntakt all day. I'm teaching myself to make ambient with it. It's a funny little device. It comes on like a drum machine with benefits but it's the synth sounds it makes that I love. I'm still trying to find the right way to sound design (or post process) the percussion sounds so that they sound good and right to me. Tack och hej då.
