I have had all of their boxes at one point or another. The ones I use the most are the Octatrack, Syntakt, Analog Rytm, and Digitakt, but they all have their place. Also, it really depends on use and workflow preferences. Thank you so much for watching!

    • @SURCOlive
      @SURCOlive  3 месяца назад

      Thanks! I had thought about some of those comparisons in the past, but there is really nothing else that compares to the Elektron sequencers. Each you mentioned have awesome things about them (I had Deluge, MPC, and TR8s, and I still have a Perkons), but they are still miles behind the Elektrons and losing ground with every release. Even stand alone sequencers like the OXI One, Torso, and Hapex do some things better, but still can't easily parameter lock conditionally per step any parameter in the machines. The only way is with cumbersome CC messages that all have to be preplanned. The Elektrons are great for doing this stuff live. Thanks so much for watching!

    You think it’s worth getting a Syntakt when I have a Digitakt and a good amount of synths I enjoy that I hook up to the Digitakt? I’m really enticed by it being a convenient box for me primarily making techno.

    • @SURCOlive
      @SURCOlive  Год назад +2

      Syntakt is a great tool to have. If you need an analog voice, a digital voice, some great analog effects, midi tracks, etc, it is very cool. I actually love to sketch on the Syntakt using the internal voices, then swap the tracks to become MIDI and send to other machines in the studio. I love having 12 mono synths in one box. SO much ability to mix and match. That said, you have most of those features between DT and 'multiple synths'. I just love that it's like a Swiss army knife in one box. Thanks so much for watching!

    One thing I don’t like about using MIDI in Digitakt (and Digitone) is that all the tracks have to be set up per pattern. On paper that flexibility might seem great, but I don’t find it useful. I basically want my MIDI setup consistent, same channels with same CC mapping for every pattern, because my external gear doesn’t really change that often. I ended up making a project template in which I set up the MIDI in one pattern and then copied it to ALL127 other patterns, which was a bit tedious. I don’t look forward to updating that if I add any other gear. Otherwise though it’s a great MIDI sequencer in every way, love using it.
    I’m pretty set on getting the Syntakt also, just really want those dedicated drum synthesis machines alongside the Elektron sequencer, and the Rytm is just a bit too pricy for me. It’s funny, in your OP-1 Field video you noted that one could buy a Digitakt, MPC One, and M8 for the same price. This was exactly what I was thinking about Syntakt and MPC One, both of which I’ve seriously considered buying, but have been leaning toward Syntakt since its release. Your comment might be the excuse I’m looking for to think about getting BOTH. “Hey, they’ll cost less than an OP-1 Field!”

      Well, I have not actually done this yet, so I hope @SURCO chimes in on his setup details.
      But what I’m planning to do is feed the Syntakt outputs to a “thru machine” on the Octatrack so I can combine the sounds from the ST with samples and do typical cool things like pitch and time shifting, etc. Set up track 8 as the master track for the Octatrack and a separate track as a “pickup machine” that is constantly recording the last 64 bars (for example) of what is playing on the master track. I find using pickup machines a little complicated, but you can find details in chapter 9 of the Octatrack manual. Hope this helps.

      @@michaelwalsh6913 sounds like a great setup. I actually use a performance template made by another RUclips EZBOT. It has two ‘sides’ of inputs and three loop recording buffers recording the two sides and the master. Definitely check out his videos on how he made it. It’s where I learned and he’s much better at it than I am.

    I’m very interested to see an in-depth video of your thought process and workflow when using the Syntakt’s voices for pure synth and melodic sounds. I find myself gravitating towards making drum sounds, even when I’m not trying to!

      Great idea. I’ll be doing a Syntakt drum sound design video first, but I’ll do one on melodics for sure. Thanks for the idea!

    Love how the Rytm is now considered not that portable. Imagine lugging around a set up in the 90's :o) I get it its a comparison, nice rundown man

      I find it surprisingly small compared to keyboards for example. Not that much larger than the takts when put next to each other but they feel much larger somehow

      Yes, I had Rytm but got rid of it and kept the Cycles - added Samples just to try. Thinking of getting Syntakt and maybe Digitakt (I have so many other samples though, it's almost a joke considering more sampler-type ones...)

    Thanks for the thorough breakdown between the various boxes. I've been debating between all three of them to go alongside the Digitone Keys I plan on picking up as my first piece of kit (I like keyboards, I like FM), and it seems like the the one I keep forgetting about might actually provide precisely what I'm looking for (the Rytm mk II).

    Great review, I saw a guy making some really deep stuff on the Elektron Analog Rytm a few years back and fell in love. Don't own an Elektron yet but I think as you said, maybe the Syntakt for analogue and digital sound production.
