Im able to use mine but it takes so much energy and eye ache sampling and the process never feels complete as I keep wanting to add more. I guess I need the perfect sample selection for the styles I make and complete It. To be free and start making music with my new sounds. That’s why I prefer synths as they just have everything on there to design a sound. The a4 DN and MC are my favourites. Awaiting to get a ST too. When I’ve saved enough pennies haha. 😊
I stumbled upon this technique not too long ago and it works really well. I added trigs to every step but the difference was I reduced the track chance probability to add in the gaps. That way sometimes I got 16th notes, other times 8th or even quarter notes. Regarding setting the LFO depth, what helps me is using the square wave first which goes between the min and max and if I know what the min and max sound like it's easy to adjust it. Once set, then change to random waveform.
That was dope. I consider myself quite proficient on Elektron machines but you are always able to introduce me to great new ways to experiment. Appreciate your work!
wow, i can't express how much this is really appreciated a lot of digitakt techniques can be one-dimensional and only work in certain instances but this opens up so many melodic and rhythmic possibilites you rule
I thought I knew all features of the Elektron boxes. But you still bring up something new to me. Did not know about the jump recording thing. It’s like having a tracker! I knew this function from the polyend tracker but now I have it on the Digitakt. Does the Digitone also have it?
wuawuawywa... i mean... i think i will buy 100 digitakts now and 10 Liters of LSD and THAT will be the ultimate jam session :) thanks bruh , absolutely fantastic and inspiring tips
It’s nice to have a channel doing such a good content . I’m trying to figure out what is better for me. An Analog Rytm mkt 2 or the digitakt + the syntak. I need one or the other to create my own drum samples in the studio.. I work a lot with sound design and in the DAW I usually use synth and sample layers to make my own drum sounds. When I say digitakt + syntak it’s because I’m thinking about syncing the MIDI of the two devices and layering the synth (of syntak) with samples (of the digitakt). Example: in digitakt a clap sample and in the syntak a synth model clap. I’m trying to figure out which choice has more sound design power. In the Analog Rytm mkt 2 I can resample… but in the digitakt + syntak it looks like there is a bigger range of sounds for me to tweak and experiment with. What would be your suggestion? Thank you!
Every time I watch a Digitakt video, I find another feature that is incredibly useful that I have never heard of. Clearly I need to RTFM, but EZBOT videos are always a great way to learn these little tidbits :)
Sick technique, but for some reason step rec jump doesn't work for me. I have to advance the steps by pressing the arrow keys, it does not automatically advance... Anyone got the same issue?
@@TriangleWaveRecords Well, I guess I have to spell out EXACTLY what I mean regarding a box making melodies, due to someone being a bit self-conscious, and perhaps unable to read between the line. You stated the idea of the Digitakt 'melody maker' being a 'magic box' -I highly disagree btw. My comment was towards all the tools such as AI VSTs, and now features like this on hardware. My comment was meant to say that I hope YOU can tell the difference between listening to a real musician, as opposed to someone who uses a host of AI tools -and weather or not you could call them a musician? In other words, will people be able know the difference between a human or AI based made piece of work. Furthermore, if people are using AI extensively, to make popular music, are they "musicians" -as I'm sure they will be calling themselves 'musicians'? If Ai keeps growing, we're all going to be asking ourselves the comment I wrote if AI based music becomes a norm in some music spheres.
Oh man that was Bliss Brilliant and Beautiful sounding. Ez boy you inspire so many Elektron users to rethink all the time with their boxes, as You keep the desire burning each time with your lessons and tuts Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
I was thinking of selling my sp404mk2. I need a device to make albums on and i thought the digitakt might be the best bet. I know people love the 404 but the workflow sucks ass through a coffee straw. What are your thoughts?
Great video ! I'm thinking of buying one but the resampling to mono is indeed very sad. Is it the same thing when you sample externally, a great sounding stereo melody for example ?
Most inspirational video with the Digitakt I have seen in a long time. My DT is getting 6 years old and it still surprises me what things one can come up with with each firmware update!
I'm not a big fan of using generative randomness in my music, especially with melodies, but this is a really cool workaround with Digitakt. But I could see a way to use this in my own way (if I had a DT). I'm not saying I'm against others using generative stuff, though haha. I feel like Elektron gear is the only stuff that can do things that I can't do in Ableton. I honestly feel like the Ocratrack is still overprices though haha. So I've been flirting with getting a Digitakt for a good year now. I'm sort of over my SP 404 MK2.
Do you really have to limit to 16 notes of sampling for note lengths to be as long as this demo? Could you sample at say half the tempo so the notes would be long but still have 32 slots? I’m still learning Digitakt so maybe I’m missing an obvious limitation that would make this method fail. I do think 16 notes is enough especially considering you can do multiple layers but I’m thinking it would still be even better to have more control over the sample/sounds chosen. For example using different samples of more similar tones for certain ranges of notes, then it’ll be random but somewhat thoughtful in terms of orchestration.
Great vid! I just got the Retrokits RK-002 for polyphony on the Digitakt, gonna see how I can incorporate it with some of the tricks here. Again, really great tutorial.
I love ambient music, this is stunning and clever, thank you! I'll be trying this out with the Digitakt and it gives me ideas for the Digitone too. I'd love to see how you would do something similar on the Hapax controlling the Ditatakt and Digitone for ambient, it would be insane!
I’ve been on the fence about getting into elektron gear but I don’t know which one would work best for me. Great vid. Pulling me closer to the digitakt
That was so great, really showing what the Digitakt can do - randomness aside being able to create some chords from layering+resampling is so nice. Would be keen to see what your settings for the delay and reverb were too if there is anything special there :)
FYI LFO depth in the slice machine just corresponds to how far the polarity goes above/below the midpoint. So if you select slice 8/9, a depth of "8" would guarantee you hit all 16 slices. If you select slice 16/17 in a 32 slice division, a depth of "16" would do the same.
Hello iam a huge fan of your videos. There is an easiest way to random. Use grid for a long sample then when you are on SRC click YES and a magical randomlock popup will appear😊 I JUST discover the tip so I SHARE IT😊.
Bought a syntakt a couple months ago, sent it back cos I wasn’t a fan of the sounds it offered - but this is inspiring af and it makes it hard for me to resist the urge to go for the Digitakt 2 😅
Brilliant and inspiring, nice work EZ! One idea: as far as I understand melody, it's more than just pitch and timbre, but also phrasing and rhythm -- what happens if you shorten one of the tracks to something polyrhythmic, or after say every 5th note add a 3-step gap, or make the envelope longer/shorter on a certain trig -- just so it's not all 1/8th notes etc. Just an idea, great stuff though =)
Yeah, all that would be possible using P-locks, dual-LFO modulations, and messing around with both the DT's probability, gate-length & conditional/count-locks. I wonder if note/gate lengths are moddable with one of the LFO pages or CC? You could even take this a step further by doubling all the above features & more by self-patching the Digitakts MIDI back into itself & utilizing its 8 _MUCH_ more in-depth MIDI tracks with clever locks & modulation!
