Syntakt: Unboxing, Sound & Live Music Performance Tips (4K)
Просмотров 978Год назад
Syntakt by Elektron is a synth groovebox. In this video we unbox the Syntakt and take it for a music performance demo. In the demo I try to highlight a few different performance ideas and sound design possibilities with the Syntakt. At first I didn't really get along with the Syntakt. The basic init sounds felt a bit bleak. I guess you really have to make it your own to glue with it. With that ...

Hello. For the power supply, is the input 110vac or 220vac?
Hi, ToneX is 9V DC via accompaning 220 AC Adapter since I live in europe (Sweden)
Not very popular when released, bought it for 200 euros. A lot of people complain about mini keys but this is designed by Japanese engineer. Not suitable for fat American
lol, yean small keys. But big sound. I think it's a great little keyboard on the go.
3:00 reminded me to how Depeche Mode album Violator starts
oh, cool! ;)
Are we hearing what's coming out of the keyboard speakers? Does it really sound that great by itself?
Sounds like its patched into a computer
Around 01:31 ruclips.net/video/TnyoC6Hpw9Y/видео.htmlsi=auxhM2_SHzLXOcja&t=91 You can read "Reface CP Speaker Audio Test, it is indeed recorded straight into my microphone. Later you can see cables hooked up, so it's recorded into audio interface. But the beginning is the speaker audio, which is absolutely decent!
When you see cables it's attached to the computer, when there are no cables it's the Reface SPeakers you are hearing. ;)
Great video! Excuse my ignorance but can I simply connect this to my macbook and use it as a midi keyboard?
Absolutely, it has MIDI over USB. It also comes with mini midi cables to midi din. So it's a small adapter for regular midi gear...if you need to hook it.
Doing god’s work lol
lol thanks- ,)
Feel like I’m back in the 70s with the wah-wah effects going on 😂 The toy piano sound is pointless and could be replaced with literally anything.
Yeah there's always sounds that's 🤷♂️😂
Excellent tip! THANK YOU AND KEEP THEM COMING PLEASE! :)
THanks! I'll try to make some more soon. Been super busy crashing out videos on my main channel and working on music courses edu.morningdewmedia.com
1. This is genius 2. Love the loop!
Oh thanks! ;)
I love op.1 field.. one of the best purchases I've made. Thank you for creating this useful video
Thanks, yeah love it too. Super fun device!
Just ordered the cp this make me think I made the right decision lovely jam
It's a wonderful little synth EP. ;)
Where can i listen to the track u made its soo good🔥🔥
My song is called Cascading Stars - on spotify and all other streaming platforms, also my bandcamp (buy here) mattiasholmgren.bandcamp.com/track/cascading-stars
Ohhh, I rhought u meant the intro song 😂 the song I made on the Octatrack will be out soon. Will let u know.
Yes but 410 euros?
Yeah wish it was half price. But Its a lot more to the sound than u may think.
Hi! Dyou know how to add external music on op 1?
Yes you can either sanple into Op-1 or transfer via usb to memory (virtual tapes). But way easier to just sample what u need (record to the virtual tape on the fly) 🥳
Oof the clav ,drive, tremolo @ 3:32 sounds sooo sooo amazing. Got the itch to buy one now! Thank you for this video, simple straight to the point and really shows off its qualities ❤
Thanks appreciate the feedback. Yeah love the sound of the CP (and CS) 🥳🌱🎹
3:15 sounds like a blocky video game
Yeah and I love those tunes. Thanks! 🥳👌
The Korg NTS-1 (in ether version) is a perfect ickle companion for this thing with all its delays, verbs and FX, plus you can even use it as a sequencer/arp now
ahh great idea!
Why would they hide a grand piano but put toy piano as one of 6 sounds😒?
It was a test sound when they developed the CP device. It was not intended for "commercial" availability, thus it's hidden. People still like that it's available. ;) Me included.
@@aifuturemix well i still think toy should not be commercial instead haha
I really want to get this synth to learn about creating sound ‘from scratch’, but I’m not sure it fits the style of music I want to create - ambient and drone. I do love its sound though… so creamy!
Yeah in combo with a solid effect, like the Korg MS70cdr it's great for ambient.
Brilliant jam! Still enjoying it in 2024? How long did it take you to learn how to use it?
Hi, the Octatrack mk2 was pretty quick to get up running. But to learn it deeply takes time. And it's one of those devices if you walk away from it for a few months it's tricky to get back on it, it's so feature packed. Maschine+ is miles easier to use. But the great thing is that it has more I/O so you can easily hook up external effects, route audio back in etc. But to be honest I haven't touched the Octatrack mk2 for months, been too busy making production courses for edu.morningdewmedia.com 😋🍿
I org thought it cheap? You know vs Casio CZ or microKorg? Similar to Alesis Harm...man sure does have some great keyboard tones!??
CP has a really sweet sound, and with an external bigger keyboard it's even more awesome! I dunno how it co,,apres to Casio / MicroKorg though. MicroKorg is programmable, the CP is not so much, but has a great EP sound.
Ace
Thanks!
Can you add other patches and store it, say accustic guitar?
No, it only has the onboard sounds, EPs and a "hidden" piano sound. ;)
Imagine a space with a hundred of these, like an interactive art piece.
would be a cool little performance jungle. ;)
Beautiful video - and gear ! I think im gonna get one. The portability and design is 10/10 for me.
Good choice! Yeah I just love how this one sounds, absolute fav in the couch!
@@aifuturemix how is the battery life with the aa batteries ? Just bought an off grid homestead, and would love to bring an instrument
Hello. Do you need a reamping box to connect the Reface (Line out) to the pedal (instr in)?
Nope worked fine like this.
weird question - did you find that your smelled a bit like sharp chemicals after first opening / playing it? trying to gauge if the one i just got is busted....
Nope, I didn't notice any weird smell when unboxing.
I got the field months ago, really loved it. It was probably the most interesting piece of gear I ever used, but I returned it. In the following months I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I love my mpc live 2, I’ve made several albums with it since 2020. But I decided after this 1.5 update that I would get it again. I love this thing so much. Other than the price, I don’t understand the hate for it. It’s not a toy, it’s actually powerful and fully capable of making whatever you want. And it plays amazingly well with any daw. Sorry for the novel, but this thing blows my mind.
Yeah OP-1 field is an amazing sampler / instrument / synth / workstation. Love it too! Just listen to the quality when you sample with it...even with the onboard mic.
Love the sounds and portability
Agree, super versatile!
The drums sound quite cheap... for the money.
You can use any samples u want.
Well done! What’s the camera used for this video? Would love to see your behind-the-scene footages.
Sony a6600, Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens. Love it! I'm gonna do a behind the scenes video on how I shoot my videos etc.
Would you get Minifreak, CS or Minilogue XD or ASM Hydrasynth about similar price range? I am going inbetween them
I would probably go ASM Hydrasynth because I don't have that one. haha.. Minilogue XD is a bit mild and soft IMO it doesn't really punch in the face when it comes to bass, like a analog synth should do. That's my impression on it. CS sounds more punchy. and Minifreak I dunno, don't have it but to me it always sounds like a vst. Minilogue XD is fun for pads though and arp sounds. Hydrasynth seems more versatile. I love the CS because it has such a ballsy and quick sound. BUt keep in mind it's harder to modulate since it has limited knobs and mod matrix ... ASM Hydrasynth is more of a beast in the modulation area and also has more knobs. I gave the Minilogue XD to my daughter. The CS I'm having fun with, very warm. AND portable and you don't really need presets. They often suck anyway
Thanks for the long explanation :). I did ordered CS. I've spent a lot of time before with VST's and general modulation type of things, but this time I thought I'd go with something simple, and sounds good, and I already use Yousician for guitar, and it also has Piano option, and would learn keyboard on it as well, and portability was also important due to health issues these times. Thanks for the advise, already ordered CS about 3 days ago waiting for it to arrive. Cheers.@@aifuturemix
Great vid, great sounds, great playing
Thanks, having a blast with this setup. 🥁😄🏆
Thanks for the concise tutorial. Does this also bounce/copy the applied effects with it?
You are welcome! No master effects is something that is added (processed) in realtime while you play. If you cut / paste (lift, drop) you only get the raw audio tracks as-is. But it's great to be able to lift 4 tracks and drop them onto 1 single track = merge audio. ;)
@@aifuturemix but you do get the fx of the track itself?
@@tendingtropic7778yes you do, because it’s audio, so any effects you applied when recording are baked in.
so snazzy
indeedo
Top level instrument for a reasonable price
Hi Andrea, Yeah it's a wonderful sound in the Reface CP and also the rest of the Reface series! 💪🎻🍿
I'd be willing to pay substantial amount for a stage size size equivalent provided it looks like an instrument (no more square black plastic case like in the 80's, Donner has done an amazing work lately with their cheap pianos, I don't understand why it could not be easy for Yamaha) and provided they keep at all cost this SIMPLE interface with big and obvious knobs controls. I think keyboard companies under estimate the amount of keyboard players that are not interrested at all in programming anything.
Hey Lous, Totally agree, did you see the video where someone built a real custom Rhodes case for the Reface CP? It's such a wonderful sound in this keyboard that it deserves a pro build. But I do understand Yamaha from a price point. The Reface CP is very portable and battery powered though. A big keybed would make it heavy and less compact / portable. So a different client base I guess.
@@aifuturemix thanks for the tip, I'll check this out. I do understand that commercially, when things get bigger, it doesn't cost them much more to increase the capabilities. However, I really think there is a market for keyboard players that are not into programming and tweaking. I really think there is a market for amazing basic sounds, packaged in an instrument like product that you could hook-up to external pedal board just like with guitarists that spend more time buying pedals than playing guitars 🙂... (I would probably be this guy...)

Does it have onboard sounds or is it just a controller?
It features a onboard sound engine by Haken Audio. So the Osmose is a stand alone synth. Just plug in your headphones and roll! It can be used as a midi controller too though, very good MPE controller.
What a fun demo.
Thanks ;) A full review coming on my second YT channel!
This is great!
Cool say who new too you do sue great!

Boring AF!!
Love the sound of this keyboard. Is that a particular song you’re playing around 1:40? It sounds so familiar to me
Thanks, nah im just improvising playing chords arpeggiated. Its typical slick chords found in Melodic Dubstep, David Foster etc.
Reminded me of the Mario Jolly Roger Bay song.
So great 😂
