The item you couldn't identify is a waffle iron, you use it to make waffles and toasties. My dad and his group of friends have been maintaining this bothy for years (not sure how long for but I'm 42 and its been at least as long as that).
So peaceful watching these videos of Bothys. I laughed so hard when the sheep appeared, glad they did not eat your tent!! Small, but so useful this beautiful mountain bothy, so many lovely items for a weary traveler and in bad weather!! Views are stunning!! Thanks and will watch more.😃
How sad it is to have to worry about whether or not one should disclose a location. The fear of vandalism is quite high and I can appreciate that. You have been here in nz and know that we don't have that problem, and that there is a high level of trust. Let's hope that, that bothy remains untouched by vandalism. Enjoyed the video. ATB Cheers from the mountains of nz. 😊
Nice to get a glimpse of the dog. I imagine he or she appreciated the Bothy to. Exciting vlog. I could tell this bothy did it for. Vintage inside. Mark
This mountain hut is private and the estate owners do close it for time to time because of vandalism and the ranger patrols it’s few times daily. Just for info? Enjoy
I wish we had bothies like that around here. Any place people can publicly rest over from my experience get run down and unpleasant VERY quickly =/ Love your soundscape of your camp setup :) Okay the sheep drama was entertaining, haha What a soft morning... makes me want to return to the UK for another visit. Like, now.
There is a reason for the Bothy not being on OS maps, and that is because OS maps perposely miss out certain objects now again, just to stop other map makes copying.
It's on both OS maps I just checked. Yes they do make alterations for that purpose but they would never completely omit a building, just slightly change the shape or the route of a road or path.
What that cooking utensil is for is making grilled cheese sandwiches. Specifically it made “ Flying Saucers “ grilled cheese. You stick your sandwich in, close it and it cuts off the crust and makes it round. Then stick it in the fire or over any burner and you’ve got your flying Saucer 🛸 Grilled Cheese !!! 😋👍🏻
Great video Rhys as always my friend. I love that bothy, it feels like another world in that area. But I don't know what maps you're looking at cos that bothy is on my map. 😁 Out of interest, did you approach from the north following the burn?
Hey, I did a couple of days ago on a rece and then went via the track with my exped rucksack on. Didn't fancy the multiple river crossings with weight on. On my map it is not featured as a building but simply a Sheep fold. It's not colored tan unlike the other two in the area, which would imply building. That's using OS online, however I'll be checking my hard copy tomorrow! Glad you enjoyed it ☺
It hasn't been added because 100s in Scotland, one in beacon near Hereford, and now Urs in England and Wales don't have many either, these bothy are not holiday let's, they are for the survival of wild campers and workmen, just in case ur tent blows away, u have to climb and walk for miles to reach. Advisable to collect wood on way because many bothy have fireplace but not many trees around. Have a safe journey God bless ❤️
They don't miss things they just don't put some things on the map to encourage breaking the law i.e. wild camping plus people suck and would trash it if they knew it was there
There's bothys scattered all over that ain't on OS maps, just none come close to being picturesque or remote as the shepherd's hut, its getting to many plugs on RUclips lately though.
Great video Rhys, thanks for this. 👌 I wasn't aware of this bothy and it took me a while to locate after watching your video. Very will hidden! I'll go check this out, looks superb.
It's absolutely beautiful, at the end of the day if people want to find it they simply have to break a map out and a bit of ingenuity. It's what I did for around an hour and then used Satellite view to confirm my suspicions
hi rhys I've lived near there for 23 years i only heard about this couple days ago we spent hours looking at maps for this then we spotted it so were going to take look at weekend do a little video & i will also keep it a secret
Awesome video, my friend! Great mountain camp! Enjoyed watching, your skills are really good! And the surrounding nature is amazing. Cheers from Russia, Rhys, and welcome to my channel about special bushcraft tips and hacks! Kind regards, Yuriy!
The idea if you haven’t learnt yet is not to give away locations. You’ve good as told everyone now so the ‘Special place’ has now gone forever. Well done😡
Made sure not to give away the location, only gave the same hints that I'd found publicly accessible online. Plus the kind of hints that only an experienced hiker with map reading skills could find. Which credit to those people they deserve the see and enjoy such a wonderful thing ☺
I completely agree. A tribute to the bothy would be not to post a video on it. All it serves is to attract more and more people to a place that should be kept under wraps, it's not MBA after all and won't have the budget to repair should it be vandalised. We visited recently, took some lovely photos, but they won't be posted anywhere online.
Why would it get vandalised up there ,thugs don't walk miles and climb these hills to vandalise a place like that and you want to deny someone the location of your precious Bothy for maybe shelter in if they get caught out in bad weather ,it can be rough up there ,they could die @@4rsxh

Well done to your dad and his friends...
It was sold as a Grilled Cheese.... Flying Saucer maker...
Of course you could make tarts or anything with fillings..
My thanks to your dad and his friends!
Where abouts is it

I could watch a bothy vlog every day! Loved this little gem. Thanks.
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it 😊

It's a bellow which puffs out air for the fire, you put kindle and wood or coal and you light fire and bellow blows air and helps start the fire,
Nice to get a glimpse of the dog. I imagine he or she appreciated the Bothy to. Exciting vlog. I could tell this bothy did it for. Vintage inside. Mark

It blows air into the fire to keep it started and going. Old Owl 🦉 Alaya.
Great video mate , great camp too , a bothy makes the world of difference and one as nice as that is something else again !!
An absolutely brilliant bothy this. 2 others have visited in the last 15 months! No wonder it's so beautiful
Nice place! Thanks for exploring it.

Thank you, thought I'd try a new style of filming out. Matched the calm surroundings ☺
Enjoyed that thanks.
Glad to hear it!
Interesting, I didn't realize there were hidden bothies (bothys?). It looks like quite a nicely kitted out bothy too, maybe due to the secrecy?
No secrecy…. However, please take a supply of firewood or coal that will replace whatever you use in part or whole.

With your info in the vid it took 5 minutes to find on google earth 👍
Cheers mate
IOW too much info.

Well done you found the bothy and I am glad I found this channel! I would defo sleep in bothy.
Hi 😊How to get there? To that bothy
The sheep attacking your tent was quite funny - glad they didn't damage it though. 🤗
They don't miss things they just don't put some things on the map to encourage breaking the law i.e. wild camping plus people suck and would trash it if they knew it was there
How is that wild camping?
There's bothys scattered all over that ain't on OS maps, just none come close to being picturesque or remote as the shepherd's hut, its getting to many plugs on RUclips lately though.
Think they are bellows for starting the fire . Nice video thanks !
I knew someone would comment! Cheers! Any advances from anyone else? 😂
@@RhysGarrard Yes , deffo bellows for starting / keeping fire going
It's a toastie maker for the fire, not bellows. It makes wee round toasties. I sold a few when I was fundraising for the Scouts in the 70s.
Similar to a roti🤷♀️☺️
That's actually a nice tent ⛺ 👌
Cross fell bothy is on OS maps.
Greg's Hut?
@ 👍🏻
Great video Rhys, thanks for this. 👌 I wasn't aware of this bothy and it took me a while to locate after watching your video. Very will hidden! I'll go check this out, looks superb.
I was hoping for much harder rain. I didn't think you enjoyed it enough. Cheers. 🤣🤣
Another great video!
Nice one Rhys
thanks for not giving its location 👍 we prefer to keep it under wraps as non mba cheers

its a very special location I have been going to that one & another 2 in the vicinity for over 15 year 👍
So someone's in a white out and you would rather keep your fooking precious bothy a secret ,they could die ! It doesn't belong to you !
hi rhys I've lived near there for 23 years i only heard about this couple days ago we spent hours looking at maps for this then we spotted it so were going to take look at weekend do a little video & i will also keep it a secret
This bothy is marked on 1:25000 scale OS maps, although it isn't labelled.
@@grenville64 I've located it. Scrub your post. Don't want to give directions to it.
Bougwah mummy's boy..the tent is a top class tent.
Parabéns pelo vídeo
Please keep Shepherd Hut a secret mate, its too small for too many knowing about it and a long walk to the next closest bothy.
So someone's in a white out and you would rather keep your fooking precious bothy a secret ,they could die ! It doesn't belong to you !
Don't post its name then.
Jaffle iron, two slices of bread with whatever filling you want, pop it in the fire to make toasties.
Awesome video, my friend! Great mountain camp! Enjoyed watching, your skills are really good! And the surrounding nature is amazing. Cheers from Russia, Rhys, and welcome to my channel about special bushcraft tips and hacks! Kind regards, Yuriy!
Maybe not a bothy. Could be privately owned. Too nice a condition to be used by general public
First rule of secret bothy club - you don't give clues where they are.
🤫
Had a sheep rip flysheet to shreds with its horns. Reason was, there was veg inside.😢
Hope u gave him the veg?
Looks like bellows to get the fire going!!
Fans the fire
Duhh!
Overcooked noodles
Marked for death poor things
So you found it then!
