Hey Stephen. I'm currently off work with issues of workplace stress (which I know you have some experience with) and I would just like to let you know that your channel is such a comfort. It's great to see you having fun on these adventures and enthusing about your kit. Makes me want to get out there when I get chance!
the gorgeous view you gave of the night sky with all the constellations and the THREE visible planets almost made me start crying tbh like I have NEVER seen that many stars
Nice video. Crazy how the wind went to nothing and then roared back with a vengeance later in the night! Great night sky shots with Orion and Jupiter (and Taurus - the sideways V-shaped set of stars to the right of Jupiter) and the Milky Way on your other angle. Love the disco tent lights. And your commentary is a lot of fun! Also, the topo map is a great touch to show exactly where you were. (Commenting from New York)
I know it was not the one you were looking for but the photo you looking up next to the tent is my top one! I love symbolism and poetic and that one is very poetic to me….This was a beautiful video - the starts the extreme of the calm and wind the disco lights 🤣….
I camped up the blackstairs mountains in the midst of the cold weather and snow that just passed. A beautiful evening with a beautiful sunset turned into a very harrowing cold night. I walked only 5km into the mountains in knee deep snow. It was the most isolating and beautiful experience I've ever had. I didn't know it was that difficult to walk in that depth of snow. It was like doing one legged squats for 2 hours straight. I had to stop and camp do to exhaustion. During the night it went down to -6°, the only thing I could do for warmth was to pee into a bottle to keep my feet warm. That was honestly my saving grace. In the morning the wind was so bad that I had to just put on my boots and leave right away without my gear. (I've yet to return for it) It was -4° at 8.30am with the wind against me. For about an hour and a half I walked back in the footsteps from which I came the previous evening. I counted 2500 paces to keep my mind occupied. Some of the snow was so soft and difficult to walk in that I got down on my hands and knees and crawl to spread my weight. It was my first close call in the wild in all the years I've been hiking and wild camping. Its an experience that will stick with me for the rest of my life. But I'm glad I did it now. It has made me more confident in my abilites and what I can withstand.
I really liked the shot of you and the tent when you were leaning slightly back looking at the night sky (Although you said your head torch wasn't bright enough). To me it invokes awe and wonder at the universe.
@@StephenJReid Yeah I agree with Ruby, that picture was by far my favourite. My main joy in winter camping is the night sky and I'd kill for a picture like that
Amazing - such beautiful skies . I want a disco tent too! This is the first one of your videos I’ve watched and can’t wait to catch up with the rest. Your commentary was so funny and very laid back in the circumstances. The best channel I’ve watched in eons. Brilliant.
That looks cool the camping gear..The stars are amazing...I love watching the sky of the night time so relaxing. Those gloves are so nice great for riding the bike. I watch the stars from inside my home at times thru view finder.
Wonderful camera work, especially the selfie stuff. The enthusiasm is contagious and laughing out loud watching at midnight is a great nightcap. Lang may yer lum reek
I had a crazy night in a tent on the Faroe Islands once. Thought the tent was going to lift off at any moment in a storm that blew in from the ocean! Hairy!
Absolutely bloody brilliant thank you Stephen for taking us with, and the pictures were amazing, but I'm so impressed with that tent and you looked so comfortable and warm.thanks again for the great work and fun . take care of yourself and yours Alan.🌬️⛺😱👍
Some amazing pictures there Stephen, many thanks for sharing them with us. Don't think anyone on youtube could make a windy night on a mountain as entertaining as you did 👍
I love the excitement in your voice as you explore the night sky. I feel the same way when I get out of the city to a remote area to do astrophotography. Unfortunately, it's at least a 5-hour drive for me to get to a dark sky preserve, so I only manage it a couple of times a year. Nice episode. I think I need some of those party lights; lighting in the tent is always so dreary.
Always a pleasure to discover what will be the "video of the week" as they all are differents. That one was really intesting for those who had ever try to shoot the stars; And, next time you'lle see a shooting star don't wish less wind, it was incredible to see how strong wind the tent can resist
I love this, the joy in your voice really makes me want to go out and do some star photography again! A remote timer is a really good add by the by, lets you do sequences and get a timelapse of the stars moving! Also lets you trigger single shots without needing a timer, just press the shutter button on hte remote instead, no shake! :D
Just thinking to myself, ya know how you saw someone else's lights off in the distance, can u imagine them noticing your lights and thinking " what in the world is going on over there?" 😂😂😂
I recently had the incredible experience of visiting the "Sternenpark Winklmoos-Alm" in souther Bavaria during peak shooting star times. It was a humblingly beatiful view.
What a superb video. Vern 1 did well, the stars were amazing and I even enjoyed your freakish disco! Mate, keep these excellent videos coming, I can only aspire to this. 😊
We love your outdoor adventure videos the most, but this one has been one of the most interesting ones you have made in a while. In particular, when you were pointing out the star constellations had us both reaching for the tablet to look up things for ourselves. And the pictures were absolutely class
Nice video! I haven't had to deal with wind like that while camping yet!! I really hope I get a few dark nights on my upcoming trip, love the dark night like ya
Great Photography and great video ! I love it when we are out at sea and can the stars , it always amazes me how insignificant we are and how amazing the world we exist in is truly awesome.
Live composite mode on lumix cameras allows you to take a base exposure and then will stack a series of long exposures for stars without over exposing your tent
Damn, that's a good tent! And the disco lights were just that perfect extra touch - wonder what the other campers/hikers thought :) Thanks for the amazing astro shots too and, as ever, your good humour.
Looks amazing at night, the Mourne mountains are a special place day and night, done donard xmas morning with the wife absolutely beautiful morning even with a few gusts!
How dare you say you have marvelous homemade sausage rolls and not share the recipe :D Love your videos. They’re always so beautifully shot and you have funny and informative commentary. You may have inspired me to try taking a shot at doing the WHW next year.
Another amazing and enjoyable video Sir. Love the pictures and the night sky looked amazing. What a privilege to experience that night sky. Thanks again
The ufo...ah hem shooting star probably made you loose time and the people across the way in the tent think you are one of them on the top of the peak with all those disco lights flashing!😂
Loved your filming. Im here in Whitehead and being by the sea I get pretty strong winds. But I like you, said earlier in the evening coming from Belfast where is this storm. Bit of hype for nothing about this storm. Ate my words later and I applaud you that your tent kept you safe, really a bad one. Even the chimney from Ballylumford power station took a. hit and parts of Whitehead had no electricity. I was safe in my little brick terrace, but amazing you held up on that mountain top in those winds. Amazing!
Yet again brilliant videography and Photography thrown in for good measure. I have spent many an hour in the good old days for film trying to capture the starts and even lighting. I did try using my when it was still new my Canon 1D3 to take night shots. It is amazing how even a tiny bit of light can overexposed when you don't notice it when looking through the viewfinder. Not tried it for well over 8 years. May have another go when the weather is a little bit less blowy. As it was bad enough having to drive in it in the early hours having to collect my Daughter from her Works Do. I wonder if the Exped Chair conversion would fit on my Big Agnes SL, as that would save having to buy a low chair for those horrible day when I am out with my Sea Kayak camping.
WIll be blasting at 35mph - thats just a breeze laddie More porch space than my Soulo, but wouldnt be fond of my head touching the inner. With the Soulo the advise is the opposite, you put in the 2 long poles first then the short side pole. Used to go out deliberatly for storms in my hillebergs. having total confidence in my tents, high winds were very enjoyable when camping as was lashing rain.
My head didn’t touch the inner when I was lying down. That would drive me nuts. Soulo was another option but I previously had the Southern Cross 1 which is a closer size to the Soulo and I just couldn’t get on with the size. I carry a lot of extra camera kit in winter and it’s too hard organising it in a small tent so that swung the Vern1. I’ll prob get spare poles for when I do plan to camp in more than a “breeze” 😜
Hey Stephen. I'm currently off work with issues of workplace stress (which I know you have some experience with) and I would just like to let you know that your channel is such a comfort. I do work stress professionally (honest) Please don't wait, try using the time off for a mini adventure
I love how this changed from ‘A Windy Night Of WONDER Camping Under The Stars’ to ‘A Windy Night Photographing Uranus’ as I watched it
I couldn’t resist. I have since changed it back as the click through rate plummeted 😂
@@StephenJReid Having to act more highbrow as clickbait? What is the world coming to?
I also have to mention that I loved the video.
the gorgeous view you gave of the night sky with all the constellations and the THREE visible planets almost made me start crying tbh like I have NEVER seen that many stars
Glad you liked it. Do you live in somewhere with a lot of light pollution?
Incredible to see the night sky without light pollution, always amazes me and makes me feel incredibly small and insignificant.
Makes you realise how much we misss
The great outdoors. Natural beauty, and the best bit, no people!! Great footage Richard. 👍
The night sky is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing and for pointing out the constellations and the planets. I love seeing those.
Nice video. Crazy how the wind went to nothing and then roared back with a vengeance later in the night! Now is the winter of our disco tent…
😂😂
I really liked the shot of you and the tent when you were leaning slightly back looking at the night sky (Although you said your head torch wasn't bright enough). To me it invokes awe and wonder at the universe.
Yeah me too. It was tough to pick one.The one I liked was the most technically difficult one, but maybe the simple photo was better
@@StephenJReid Yeah I agree with Ruby, that picture was by far my favourite. My main joy in winter camping is the night sky and I'd kill for a picture like that
What an amazing adventure in the mountains and wow what incredible photos of the stars!
2:05 was not expecting the Futurama reference, but now it's stuck in my head 😂
Stuck in my head since 1999 😂

Thanks Alan 🙂 was very toasty. My kit was a bit overkill for the temperature but I’ve had too many cold winter nights that I’m not risking it again

Yikes I thought 60mins was a long drive for dark skies, won't complain about that again!
Thank you for all your beautiful photos and especially the stars. I love the isolation that you enjoy up there on the mountain.
First time watching one of your videos it was incredible I was amazed with how clear the stars are visible.
Good old mountains of mourne, can’t get much better in norn iron 😊

Amazing isn’t it? You must get some amazing views of the night sky!
@ we do I just got to figure a way of capturing it
What's that category... - campertainment?! Love it!
I'll take it 🤣
Live composite mode on lumix cameras allows you to take a base exposure and then will stack a series of long exposures for stars without over exposing your tent
Oh that’s very cool
I’m not into camping or photography but this vid made me want to go out on a night time MTB ride 🤙🏻
Night time bike rides are fun. Although I’ve found because you need a bright light on the bike, it somewhat ruins your night vision for the sky
Damn, that's a good tent! And the disco lights were just that perfect extra touch - wonder what the other campers/hikers thought :) Thanks for the amazing astro shots too and, as ever, your good humour.
Some UFO reports perhaps 😂
Great video, had a completely still night on Binnian summit two summers ago and don't think I'll ever forget how beautiful it was
Binnian is unbelievable if you get a still night. Only ever windy when I’m up there!
Stunning video and a stunning spot. A clear night in the Mournes under the stars is good for the soul 👌.
Thanks Kyle
I love how you make it fun with the lights. The lone raver😂 love the stars but i hate the wind.

Awesome. I have just bought my 1st morrorless and can't wait to learn.
Congrats! Just start experimenting and having fun
Top top quality sir, photo's are beautiful. What a treat that was. Bordering on getting blown off there 😂
Didn’t feel such a storm just an normal Irish wild winter 🥶 💨 😂 camping ⛺️ weather for sure to enjoy the still cold sky’s!
Great camp Stephen. Enjoyed watching it. Agh, you’re tempting me in the search for that perfect camp chair! That’s a great advert for the Vern 1!
Awwwww hey!
Those night sky photos Stephen, incredible. I love it.

Absolutely magic ✨ thank you 🙏🏻 ❤
Thanks Sarah 😁
So lucky that you got that shooting star on camera!
I know! Actually saw a couple that night but camera was only on for that one
That chair is awsome.
Uranus is my planet .I sure do miss home.😢 Happyto be on earth for New Years Though😊❤
Have seen loads of shooting stars up there at night. Also seen quite a few satalites change directions etc. Some spot
That was brilliant, you got some great shots !
My father was from Limavady. He would call that wind " blowing a bloody hooly out there "
Brilliant I enjoyed this love the lights I've just went and ordered some 😅
Ah that sky makes it all worth it. Another amazing video Thanks 🙌

Leave nothing but footprints, that was an impressive break down :D

Give us a wee video recipe for those sausage rolls please.
I didn’t make them unfortunately
well put together 🎥📸👌
Thanks Brian. Been a while since I’ve done a bit of photography and not just video
Fabulous - thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Brilliant! 😄
A Stephen Sunday. Klaatu!
