    For so long I tried different ball handling workouts and I didn’t see much results that translated back to games, but recently I’ve been doing those 2 ball drills 30 minutes daily and using these methods and I’ve really notice an improvement of when I play, I feel a lot more fluid and comfortable with the ball in my hands and I’m able to make plays a lot more frequent and efficient then I use to

    Your correct, but after you’ve learned to manipulate the ball and get to your spots with pressure a good way to train handling after is freestyle pretending defense is in front of you and trying to score effectively to practice these things for games. This is what I’ve learned do you have any opinion’s on that. You can also add dribble limits or constraints to help on that. Though I’d love to see a handle workout!

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  2 месяца назад +1

      Ya im not opposed to it at all. This video was moreso explaining that practicing the moves shouldn't be the first thing players should do. And most trainers have players doing moves but can't understand why the player is struggling with it. I'd say it should just be more time spent on the handles than the move. Practicing a move should be for a specific purpose or scenario, not trying to invent scenarios that aren't happening often, if that makes sense.
      All that to say, yes I agree with you. 😂😂

      Running full speed while dribbling with just one hand is a great one. Obviously you tire out pretty quick so try to do like 5 with your right and 5 with your left at the end of each training. Also its a mindest when doing your dribble warmups, should dribble faster than youre comfortable with being ok with losing the ball and messing up. Then you can slow down slightly for games.

Just keep doing that until it becomes normal, then you up the speed again. That's what's always helped me, train fast so that the games feel easy.

    Speaking of the two ball dribbles, would you recommend those advanced two balls drills at beginning. Personally, I’ve been capable to do those fundamentals of two balls drills( low pound, high pound, alternating low/high pound, one high with one low). But, I’ve been struggled to two ball crossover, btw, behind. It is absolutely frustrating when messed it all up on advanced drills.

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  2 месяца назад

      The crossover one is one of the hardest ones. Way harder than it looks, just try to get 2 in a row without messing up. Then 3 in a row, then 4... eventually it will become habit.

    • @fyf0903sf
      @fyf0903sf 2 месяца назад +1

      @ thanks for the reply. Here is my confusions and feel after watching skill trainers and pro athletes(specificaly, Luka Donic ). Many online videos are available out there showing off skill trainers’ ( for example, Tyler Ralph)incredible ability of manipulating two balls. By contrast of it, Luka was found that he couldn’t do it in a training session with Steph curry during off season. Still, I found Devin booker barely try out the advanced two ball drills in his warmup. So, It all comes up an unsolved question to me that are hoopers encouraged to develop ball handlings from advanced drills? Let’s say if hoopers will not able to do those advanced drills at the end of day, should we move on to something as else?

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  2 месяца назад

      That's a very astute observation! Luka and booker both have other elite world class qualities that allow them to be successful regardless. Booker doesn't have a great handle but can shoot lights out in a league where you're not allowed to hand check. His handles are great in the nba but he definitely struggled in fiba with physicality. Luka on the other hand has some of the best footwork and that's what he uses to beat his defender, that and strength, rarely does he "cross" someone to create space.

    • @themidrange

      The very first day is the hardest. Moreso because your brain has to develop the pathways to do 2 different things at once. Trying them, then thinking about it away from the court still helps your brain develop. You should see improvement pretty fast in the first couple weeks. Then it becomes a routine where you can increase speed, eyes closed etc...

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  2 месяца назад

      He controls pace better than most other players. He plays to his advantage nearly every play. So if he's faster he uses his speed, if he's stronger he uses his size, if he's going against a good defender he tries to get a switch or spaces the floor and tries to score off the ball to conserve energy.
      He's just a master at exploiting other players weaknesses and he has mastered so many skills he can go play where the defense is least comfortable.

      Learning to make them lift out of their stance, so being able to shoot greatly helps with this.

    • @notperfect101
      @notperfect101 2 месяца назад +3

      If your defender just sits back, you should just shoot the ball. Very simple :) Work on your shooting if you‘re not confident.
      An alternative perspective: if the defense can just be stagnant that means you‘re dribbling stationary which is almost never good (except when waiting for a screen or some action to develop). The whole point of dribbling is to move somewhere, if you don‘t move it just gives the defense time to set up. If you want to attack the defense the best strategy is to make THEM move. One example: on your dribble, just slide a bit to the side. If they don‘t react, you have a line to the basket and can just drive, they will be too late to stop you. If they also slide over that is your cue to change directions. The idea is to make them move and then use their momentum against them. It‘s the same principle for attacking closeouts. Because the defense is in motion it makes it much easier to go by because it‘s very hard to stop and go the opposite way in a split second.
      Lastly, if there is no good attack, just pass the ball and move, cut or set a screen. Keep the ball and players moving and the offense flowing. Nothing worse than a stagnant offence with someone dribbling on a spot not achieving anything. Don‘t be fixated on doing it all alone. In many situations a pass (and move) is the best option. If you understand that you can become a very valuable player for your team. Don‘t play ego ball.
      Hope that helps a bit. Keep on hooping!

    • @themidrange

      I would say you should have a go to move and counters to the go to move. THEN you react to hoe the defense plays to that. I'd say planned moves are only happening once or twice a game. Unless you're specifically wanting to practice a specific move.

      You're not alone, this is a very difficult thing to learn and instill within a short amount of time. But I promise now that you know what to look for your improvements will be much faster. I hope you get an opportunity to make the team, give it your best and use it as a learning experience whether you make it or not. We've all been there!

    I cant get by defenders and i dont know how to react to the defender so what can i do ?

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  2 месяца назад +1

      The best thing you can do to practice this honestly is one on one. Concentrate on going full speed right, full speed left, when they back up shoot. Get tons of reps so you can do this effectively, then start adding counters.

    hey, so I've been working on my ball handling latley (I actually do the oayton pritchard routine over the past days after seeing it on RUclips) but I don't use any dribble moves in games. I don't know if it's holding me back and limiting options, like I only do a normal crossover and not through the legs etc. but I'm a fast player so idk if I need to. any advice? thanks

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  2 месяца назад +1

      You only need 1 effective move and then the counter to that move. Having more moves is great for if you're the main play maker and you're trying to get off difficult shots. But my entire college career was 1 move and a counter and it can be highly effective. So if you are quick I would say your first actual move is to just blow by, then a second move is the fake blow by into a crossover, then you just need to add a move if they cut off your crossover, so crossover into a spin, or between the legs or step back or retreat dribble or another simple crossover. But everything should build from your crossover and speed, not take away from it.

    I do disagree with the fact he talked about not listening to the other RUclipsr on the left when he talks about when he talks about not listening to him because when I looked at his short that specific short, I did it and it made me a better ball handler maybe a ball manipulation. The other parts in this video were helpful, but I just disagree with the first part when he said not to listen to this other RUclipsr on the left cause before he’s actually a good RUclipsr and he gives me basketball tips for real and it made me a better player like I said, I got better manipulation ball handling, dribbling up and down the court in specific way, but I love your channel though.

      Nothing wrong with that. I dont know any of these youtubers personally and definitely wouldn't suggest to not listen to them at all. I moreso meant that watching quick handle hacks aren't the answer. If he's motivating you to get the ball in your hand and keep working then all respect.
