As a high school coach, thank you. I’ve just sent this to my players. Most of this I’ve talked to them about, but it helps reinforce it with a video like this.
Hi, I just wanted to tell you that Jesus loves you so much and He is waiting for you with open arms Please accept Him in your heart and life while He is near. Also, True Christianity is not just a religion, it's a Father - child relationship with God. And more
I'm on a new team and I've been very loud on the court even though I'm not a star player and when you said "you can be a leader no matter what role your in" in one of your videos its been so true for me.
I don't think I'm a high IQ player yet, I've been playing for 4 weeks and I've made it to my schools A team, our team is undefeated currently, thanks for the vids

hey man, just wanted to say thank you because watching your videos helped me in a lot of things, thanks to you now i know how to train properly and im now a starter in my team. keep up the work, your helping lots of kids out here
Can I just say how much your vids have been helping me I’m not on a club because I missed registration and not on hs team because I was doing a different winter sport but I’ve recently been going to my la fitness and playing where I did a 1v1 vs a kid on his high school team which started out rough 0-5 but I came back and won 11-9 and I played another game of 3v3 I scored 11 of my teams 17 points including 3 assists against more kids all on their high school team we lost 17-21 but I think I played solid going abt 50% from the field this is long and your not gonna see it but hopefully other people do and can see how much you’re helping out
Another great vid tuck, i love how you covered so much of the basic stuff, because so many kids nowadays dont know this stuff. I seem to have a bit of a knack for most sports on the iq side naturally, so things like using fastbreaks correctly and spacing the floor i personally do but my teammates sometimes struggle with. Definitely still some tips for me tho, like i can sometimes get angry after a turnover and chase a steal or pass the ball to someone who shouldnt have it when i get pressured
Im a freshman in HS and i was wondering if u had any tips on how to score more during games, as i do great in 1v1s, 2v2s, and even 3v3s or 4v4s but for some reason whenever i play in games or scrimmages i feel like its so much harder for me to score, and i haven’t even scored in an official game this year so far. Anything Helps. Also, props to you for replying to every single comment. your dedication and interaction with you audience is really impressive and it feels good to be recognized as a viewer. Thanjs
Hmmm, if you can score in those other situations, then is it a mentality thing? Are you really forcing yourself to be aggressive with your touches in games? Also are you doing the controllable things well that lead to easy points, like sprinting in transition, going for offensive rebounds, cutting, etc.?
I just had practice today an I scored 15 in a scrimmage what helped me alot was trying to space the court, and going to work on my man as if it was a 1v1. i also made sure to sprint in transition and got some easy points and boxing out helped me get rebounds and open lay ups. i have a game tommorow and Ill let you know how it goes. Thanks a lot for the help.
Awesome video I’ve actually started watching your videos they have helped me a lot they have helped me want to play basketball in high school so I’m in eighth grade and I’m on the basketball team but I don’t think I’m good enough to make the freshman team in high school you should make a video of how to make the high school basketball team because I wanted to see your perspective on what you think is the best way
I am a 8th grade basketball player and hope to play for my high school team and one day college and pro basketball. This video really helps thank you bro
Hey Tucker thanks for this I love your videos and I’ve been wanting to play college ball so you always give me motivation to keep going. Keep up the good work 👍
Hey Tucker, like I've said before, your videos are so informative and helpful. You inspire me a lot and teach me a lot as a young basketball player. I have a problem reading the defense and the help in game. While studying basketball, I can almost predict what the offense player will do and see what read they made, but in game I just can't seem to remember to make the read and scan the floor. This is pretty frustrating because I make a lot of bad plays that end in bad shots or turnovers. What advice do you have for this?
The more you play, over time these reads will become easier and easier. I would recommend playing more 2 on 2 and 3 on 3 in the offseason to build up the game situational split second reads. It is a process, don't get discouraged!
you mention watching out own highschool games a lot but I live in New Zealand and high school sports here are a lot less professional. We don't have any recordings of high school games and there aren't much films of basketball at my level.
@Tucker great video... I think your right on target. My observation for basketball at this time is basketball IQ is lacking at the high school level based on games I have attended. Bad shots, stupid fouls not recognizing when the double is there and taking action are just examples . Turnovers happen all the time not recognizing when to make that pass, when to dribble and force the defense to make a decision, I watched you in high school a lot - you took good shots most of the time and played smart. Your team did recognize most times when you were hot most times. I liked your team a lot that year as you played smart most of the time. Players should recognize you can make up for a lot in difference in each teams ability by playing smart. Good decisions give you a chance to compete. Keep up the good work people are learning from you.
I’d say for someone who only started competing in October, I have decent IQ but just need more coaching and self education. I think my court awareness came from watching games and playing scrimmages.
Hi Tuck, since you are a shooter, could you make a video on how to utilize your shot: mid-range, three-point, or even specific player breakdowns? My best skill is my shot. Thank you for your great videos! 😊❤
I think at that age is about finding the joy in the game, playing free (allowing for them to make mistakes), and pushing them to work on their own time on their skills.
Hey if you see this I’ve got a couple questions that maybe you can answer in a future vid or even just in this comment section 1. How didn’t you make the nba it’s not like you played for an awful college team you guys dominated the teams you faced you were an all around solid player and Colgate made march madness. 2. Do you plan on trying to play in the g league to get into the nba or are you mostly committed to overseas unless given the chance to play in the g league?
Well the NBA is extremely competitive. I think everyone should have big goals, so my goal is to play in the NBA one day. But I have been around NBA players, competed with and against NBA players, and while I don't feel I'm that far off, there is definitely a gap. The difficulty with the NBA is that there are so many guys all over the world competing for just a few spots. Good question!
I like to think that I’m a high IQ player in basketball but I transferred to a new school this year and I am my teams best player but I feel like I have a hard time adjusting to the offense and it makes me seem like a less valuable player. I am also a 8th grader. What do you think I should do.
In that adjustment phase (I went through this too this year) focus on all the things you can do really well that are in your control to make you valuable. So go for offensive rebounds, push the ball when you get a defensive rebound, cut for easy layups, get deflections on defense. Basically find ways to impact the game that are in your control!
Hi Tucker. In my high school's league, the basketball isn't as sophisticated. Our coach has never given us set plays and other teams are not that organised. This makes some games chaotic, with each team barely using up the 24 second time clock in offense. Any tips to take advantage of this so that I can put myself in a place where I can stand out on offense and defense?
I actually think that kind of style can be pretty helpful at the lower levels. It forces you to make more decisions on every possession and get creative. Sounds like your coach gives a lot of freedom, so be really aggressive within those limits. Most high school kids aren’t in such a free situation!
@@TuckerRichardson Also, I have another question. My handles are pretty decent but whenever I'm playing one on one against a defender, I find it quite hard to get past them and they sometimes strip the ball away. Any tips on how I could train better to handle those situations or how I could get by players easier?
I think I’m higher IQ for defense than offense. Like I can pick out matchups and I tell my teammates how to guard them to make it harder for our opponents to score. Also if there is a move someone is overusing, then I tend to key on it and can figure out how to stop it within 5-6 attempts. But on offense I am not as good at making the right read as when I am pressured, I tend to get the ball away from me but that usually ends in a steal.
Tucker I need your help I played my first organized game at 7th grade I was a starter with 6 min quarter I had 0 points and 0-3 and 4 assist and 2 rebounds idk what to do since I want to score we won 32-28 but I want to be a good scorer pls what do I do and what do I practice pls respond I'm going against the best school on my division in two days
Okay, the assists are good, rebounds are good. Just because you start 0-3 doesn't mean you stop being aggressive! Imagine you make your next 3 shots, now you are shooting 50%. You won't know if you don't stay aggressive and keep shooting. Also basketball isn't all about scoring, give yourself some props for having 4 assists in such a low scoring game.
hi tucker I’m a 15 year old and I’m playing for my school’s rec league, defensively I’m very good at blocking shots, as I’m around 6’4 but offensively I struggle with making shots in regulation even though when I play pickup I’m typically very good on offense, any advice?
@ I’m not 100% sure if it’s a skill thing because when I play 1v1 i can typically hold my own against very talented players, I think I just need to get more shots up, I’m getting with a coach so that I can get my shot right and be able to become a better offensive player and eventually make it to the next level
@@TuckerRichardson im starting to get better at it. I feel like you should make a video on why working on your body is important to make it to the next level

In the first example why did the Bucks have to foul? Didn't the shot clock hit 0 as the guy shot so they were getting it no matter what?
Because the Knicks were winning and the shot clock was off...so the Bucks only option was to foul or else the Knicks can just run the clock out.
