I really like CZ but for now I'd say that suffle up and play are my favorite content so far. Even when it's not commander it's such a chaotic friendly energy that is so fun to watch.
The big difference is that the gameplay isn't scripted. There are way too many instances on Game Knights where an obvious play isn't made. For example, I stopped watching as much when a removal spell was used to kill a vanilla 3/3 token instead of using it to kill an unprotected creature that was draining people including the person using the spell for multiple life, resulting in the person controlling that creature to win because instead of being at 30 everyone was at 15 or less.
This seems like such a fun pod. Voxy is always a blast, but I love Amy's enthusiasm and Lexi is always a pleasure to watch play. The Prof is our old classic. Man I love this pod and this series!
Voxy is just amazing! ❤ The way she reacts, her facial expressions are a separate show! She seems to create another game within the game! The most truly living person I have ever seen!❤
27:03 I swear the focus of the land is the lantern with the symbol for fire and they make it a swamp. Across the table it would not be unreasonable to assume it is a mountain and make the wrong assumption about what mana an opponent has . They could have made the lantern purple at least.
Great show and great guests, watching Amy smile while running her rampant racket was a blast! And I physically popped off the moment I recognized Ben Wheeler's voice at the end, can't wait for the next one!
For whatever it’s worth, I watched this, then immediately bought Chandra’s ignition for my amass orca deck with Saruman the white hand. It was my first “built from scratch” deck with no help from any internet source besides this one and I WON! 38/38 orc smashing all my friends to pieces whom had previously beat this deck multiple times. Felt so good, thanks prof!
One of my friends' main deck is Okaum/Zndrsplt. The moment Voxy did not use Meteor golem to blow up the thumb something deep inside me died. Also yes, Chandra's is the most amazing way she always kills the entire table. Such a classic.
Fun watch. One point of contention at the end though. Greaves gives Prof's commander shroud (not hexproof) so he can't target it with the Ignition. If the Greaves weren't on it, maybe someone else could interact with the Ignition cast? If not, no harm done.
Lexi missed a real good opportunity to say “sometimes when your feeling uncertain you just gotta flip a coin” to the professor on that first turn there
33:56. But Professor Dungeons are my favorite mechanic! I even built a whole modern deck around them! I mean it's not good, but it makes for really good decent table magic. I personally would tend to go for Dungeon of the mad mage, especially with Hama Pashar to draw 6 cards and play two of them without paying any mana for it. Mind you, it takes 7 times of venturing, but still.
Essentially you go Selesnya for two reasons. 1. Green in my opinion is the fastest color to venture with and the most reliable. It's pretty easy to have a land enter the battlefield in your turn. meaning up to 4 venture triggers with Wandering Troubadour. Varis, SIlvermoon ranger means you will be venturing once per creature hitting the field. Run Intrepid Outlander to Venture when you attack with 6 or more power, and it's a 2/3 with reach to prevent flying damage. White gives venturing on hitting the field. Cloiser Gargoyle also protects from flying and turns into a 3/4 once you finish a dungeon. Veteran Dungeoneer does the same, but is a 4/4 and gets no payoff. Planar Ally is a 3/3 that ventures on swing and is also in white. This Synergies with Intrepid Outlander. I also run White Dragon and Devoted Paladin as finishers. And I also throw in Barrowin just to get every legendary Dungeon themed guy I have, but its off color. And of course Hama Pashar. Venturing also tends to give you treasure tokens, either through the dungeons themselves or through cursed idol. Which is an excellent green source of ramp or removal. I also run You hear something on watch to either defend against attackers or buff my attackers. Both are cheep and flexible. Find the path for ramp, Paladin class for a finisher and Minimum Containment for general removal.
I should make a note here, that I generally play this in a multiplayer modern format. So it is a casual deck, although you could spend and spend to make it "good". Spend on the mana base, more mirror boxes, more flicker, and the good white removal spells. More of the key pieces. Anyways game plan is I venture into the dungeon of the mad mage as fast as possible to get to the last stage. I generally do Goblin Bazaar and then Runestone Caverns, but murials's Graveyard is an excellent choice to create 2 1/1 blockers (this works great with prosperous innkeeper and selesnya life gain) if not more if you don't have the mana up to cast other spells from exile. (Which you can do as if it were a main phase even if you venture on your endstep). Scry to get your key pieces and pray you get a hama pashar for mad Wizards's lair. You do reveal what you draw, but casting any spell for free is just too good to pass up in my opinion. It also tends to refill your hand and at this point, you probably have a board state which means venturing is much faster the second time. At this point you just venture again and again still you get enough small boys and hit a finisher.
Of course dungeon's are a bad unsupported mechanic. The set probably should have had more party stuff instead of what it did, but I'm glad it did. Each Color Synergizes with the others, meaning in my opinion that all 10 color combos are viable, as well as some 3 color combos. That being said this is actually one of my favorite sets. I love venturing into the dungeon and being able to hit that payoff and make some crazy moves. Unfortunately, the Singleton format of commander means that in my opinion dungeon commander decks are even more of a reach than regular dungeon mechanics. In order for dungeons to work you have to REALLY lean into them, and that restricts what they can do.
I don't mean to dismiss what the professor's said about dungeons. It is a janky mechanic that failed to go mainstream, that being said it's one of my favorite mechanics and I love it when I get to see it in action! Hopefully someone sees this and decides to try it out on MTG Goldfish or MTG Forge and sees what can be done with it. Also Dimir Rogue Tribal / Mill is another really fun way to play dungeons

I just had a moment of glory a week ago by casting a 10 drop red spell using pyromancers goggles... then flashing in dual-caster mage and having zaffai + veyran on the field... 100 damage adds up quick even when zaffai isnt your commander haha
Awesome game! A rare on camera W for The Prof, well deserved!! So hyped I was like "is that what I think it is?? Chandra's Ignition?? YEEAA" lol losing it during lunch at work
I love the inclusivity and diversity in this series, it cannot be said enough!! I do have a minor suggestion for future episodes, however (excluding those that were already recorded, of course): if possible, have the players state their pronouns at the beginning (on top of showing them), this way everyone at the table knows for sure. And it can potentially educate the audience as well (prob a lot of people out there who don't read the intro cards), and it's more accessible for blind folks. Said without any malice, from a queer person, who adores this safe space you continue to create for all of us ❤
So, we now always begin with a pre-game discussion where we talk about how we'd like to be addressed. For example, I will say, "I am okay with being addressed as Prof, Professor, or Brian, and my pronouns are he/him." This is important because other guests may only wish to be called by their monikers/nicknames, etc. I prefer to not air this pre-game discussion as sometimes someone might say something they do not want publicly revealed, such as "Please don't call me Tyler on camera" or "Can I ask that we not bring up this subject as it could get me into trouble with my sponsor" etc. I like the use of nameplates as it helps us get right into the gameplay while still conveying to the audience important information such as our names and pronouns.
@@TolarianCommunityCollege Thank you kindly for such a transparent answer! And thank you for yet another fantastic episode! “Venture into the dungeon?” Must be a Hearthstone thing.
OH MY GOD LMAOOOOO
I'm sorry. I should have said Hearthstone RUclipsR Voxy.
39:29 this pun absolutely SENT ME!! I love Amy so much easily my favorite guest 😂
I always love seeing Voxy and friends tease and taunt the Prof. ❤
I just had a moment of glory a week ago by casting a 10 drop red spell using pyromancers goggles... then flashing in dual-caster mage and having zaffai + veyran on the field... 100 damage adds up quick even when zaffai isnt your commander haha
Waiting for the Amy and Voxy sitcom!
I appreciate that you try to keep the channel clean. Nice job Prof!
Perfect timing for my morning commute lol
My favorite parts are when he censors the swears with legendary creatures! Just once I want to hear “Sheoldred” lmfao
When Amazonian had Zndrsplt, she should have drawn one card when the Prof won a flip.
oh my god it says "a player"
She should have read the card as it explains the card.
I really love this group's energy together.
Ooh, this looks like a fun lineup!
Awesome game! A rare on camera W for The Prof, well deserved!! So hyped I was like "is that what I think it is?? Chandra's Ignition?? YEEAA" lol losing it during lunch at work
Prof having the audacity to play the coin flip deck and not use an actual coin feels so wrong
I love the chemistry between the four of you. Like, I caught myself grinning multiple times x,D
I love how the one time Prof wins on his own show, the entire table is salted.
So excited to see some dungeon venturing gameplay, of which I certainly care deeply about!
This group in particular is always a guaranteed delight (though I love the series as a whole).
Fully understand (and support) not wanting to air any of the pre-game discussions. And now I can stop wondering about this specific question 😄
Voxy: *Sits on Infinity token*
The shadowy recesses of the internet: "Is.. Is it sale? Deal? Buy now?"
On a less weird note, I really love Gavin's deck. I played with it and against it a few times and it's a blast every time.
Amy's deck was annoying and kept everyone else from playing the real mechanics of their own decks. Not a fun way to play or watch Commander.
idk what it is but the vibes are always immaculate on this channel. props, prof!
