SmallAnt had at least one more turn. The three mana from Hydra’s Growth wasn’t subtracted so the Prof wouldn’t have been able to play Ram Through at the end. I wish he would’ve rolled at the end so we could’ve at least seen if he died from that 😂

So I got to the part where there should have been a pop-up explaining the rules violation but it didn't happen and now I'm seeing all the chat about how she got away with cheating.... So one in the beginning that could be just a mistake ( colorless used as Black happens ), But come on with blatantly doing things out of order,...

As a small learning opportunity for all of us: the Genesis Ultimatum should have resolved entirely, and only then would the Cavalier of Gales trigger go on the stack.
@@yonigle8553 It would actually be: 2 cascades on the stack, resolve one and find ultimatum, cast that, get things on the battlefield put etbs on the stack in the order she decides, resolve them, do second cascade
no, the second cascade would not resolve before the genesis ultimatum, because cascade forces you to cast the exiled card immediately
@@yonigle8553 That's incorrect. "Each instance of cascade triggers and resolves separately. The spell you cast due to the first cascade ability will go on the stack on top of the second cascade ability. That spell will resolve before you exile cards for the second cascade ability. "
@@symmetrybokte well cascade is a may, so you can choose not to cast. But yes, the second one is after.

@@oldengamer8294 Mana crypt is like 80, and bayou is 2-300. Mox amber is also pretty expensive, but everything other than that was pretty cheap.

an eternal masters lp mana crypt is at the very least 140, ar revised lp savannah is around 350 bucks, a brother's war mox amber is at least 25 bucks, yoshimaru is 5 bucks, arcane signet is around a dollar, sol ring is 1.5o dollars so in total he played around 522.5 dollars so no he didn't play thousands worth of card but where the fuck do you get your prices? and where did you se a bayou turn one?

Yep, came to see if anyone else caught this. Spells and abilities have to resolve to their entirety before other spells or abilities can resolve.
Same here. Missing the trigger means no trigger. I understand the spirit of the play.
This bugged me so much. Resolve your d*mn trigger on the stack before you resolve your spells, you should know this if you've played with cascade like at all before.

Just a heads up, especially for anybody seeing this and wanting to build malestrom wanderer, there was a large blunder with how things resolve in this game. The Genesis ultimatum has to finish resolving in its entirety before any of those enter the battlefield effects happen. This means that the cavalier of gales does not give her an opportunity to set up the next two cards that Genesis ultimatum flips, which means there could have been a whiff.
Whenever a spell is on the stack and is putting cards into the battlefield that spell has the completely resolve before those ETBs can affect anything on the board.

However, she would've gotten to cascade into one of those two 7-drops anyway instead of the ramp spell.
Also, both avenger abilities would have triggered simultaneously (assuming it was in her top 2 before the cavalier messup) because it and stomping ground entered simultaneously, allowing her to get 4 more power on the board.
@@mrsplays9817 I think the seven drops were drawn with cavalier based on the evil cackle, so she would have gotten at least one of them anyway.
I was just about to say, as a First Sliver player, I have had to take a course in how these plays resolve(cuz my friends hate my deck and argue any plays I make lol). Bloody made a great deck but fumbled big time. First she didn't finish her Cascade with Maelstrom, and then she didn't finish the Genesis Ultimatum.

They missed a trigger of the crypt a turn before as well.
He didn't die to the crypt though, he died to a 100+ damage ram through.
He could have never taken any damage from crypt and still died to a 100+ damage ram through.
@@EWSwot well, yes, but the two of them were worried about whether Smant would survive the mana crypt so he could get a turn and hopefully take Prof down. even though he DID survive the crypt and get his turn (despite it not helping), they could have worked together to remove the possibility of the crypt killing him entirely

25:20 L2 Gemesis Ultimatum should have ended resolving before resolving Cavalier of Gales. You look at the top five cards at the same time and then choose the pernaments that you want to put on the battlefield. All of them enter the battlefield at the same time.
I was expecting a Professor pause here but, they somehow missed it.

They generally catch after the fact and do the "This was done wrong. In reality..." but there was none. :( A ruling they missed will happen sometimes.
Yes and this mistake could have MASSIVE impact on the game since it messes with the cards revealed by the ultimaturm
They seem to not be following the rules regarding the way spells resolve, Instead opting for a house rule of action by action resolve. Looks fun either way
That Genesis Ultimatum was definitely not resolved correctly. You can't resolve the Cavalier of Gales ability until the 5 cards from GU are already decided.

Small note on Reikai, History of Kamigawa- He's been erratta'd to read "Whenever you cast". It's an update to the old way of phrasing things (Playing a spell was casting it, back in the day)
Bloody was definitely supposed to look at all 5 cards from Genesis ultimatum at the same time and put them all into play at the same time and THEN resolve any ETB triggers
she wasnt even supposed to have it resolved tho
her creature that taps for 3 mana allows to spend it ONLY on creatures

This game just reminds me of a quote my BF always uses: "My mom said I could grow up to be anything I want so I decided to be a problem." At some point in the game, it described every player.

I'm not so much surprised that Genesis Ultimatum was resolved incorrectly (even with my main playgroup I find people can make mistakes with these kinds of effects), but more surprised that even the editor missed it and they didn't have one of the Prof's "Judge" moments to explain the issue.
Yeah, that was the part that got me the most... It's ok to make mistakes, but this was such a blatant mistake that they should have at least acknowledge it
As someone who knows nothing about the card, how would the game have been affected differently?
@@HeyyItsDaleVODS Bloody should not have been able to brainstorm in the middle of the ultimatum resolution, we don't know what cards she put on top of her deck but for instance she may not have had the avenger of zendikar come in. The brainstorm effect should have been put on the stack after the ultimatum resolved, so she could get one card off of it with the second cascade trigger instead of both cards she put back.

@@Caio22011 Either they didn't catch it and weren't thinking, or didn't want to call it out as they'd have to go "yeah the game would be completely different and nothing would have gone the same way". Which people hate hearing, and would spoil a lot of peoples, who didn't catch it, enjoyment of the episode.
Regardless it didn't seem malicious, and Bloody died next turn, so it wasn't too bad.

I'm pretty sure the person that cast the cascade card KNEW she was cheating, but because nobody else noticed it, just took advantage of the situation.

I did not pay attention, was it the sequencing? Cascade/ultimatum?
Prof also miscounted for his ancestral mask. When he first played it, there were seven other enchantments for a grand total of +14/+14. Four from Prof, one from Bloody and two from SmallAnt.
True, but it would have still been 22 commander damage so it wouldn't have mattered.

So when bloody was resolving the genesis ultimatum and she hit cavalier, she should have had to wait to resolve cavalier until after genesis was done resolving
Edit: wasn't expecting this much attention for this post lol. But a couple things, first from what I understand bloody is newish, so understandable that it happened, Second the other players didn't catch it, but I get that, I still make mistakes that I shouldn't lol and playing on camera is probably adding more overall stress to the game, so it's understandable that it happened, and third, I get that people couldn't watch past that point, while I could, some misplays in other games do make it hard to watch, so I think it's some what understandable if people had a hard finishing the video

There were similar mistakes with resolving triggers in the middle of kambals Druidic vow but of not nearly as much consequence

Based on his first two turns, I think SmallAnt was speedrunning his health bar to 0
I think genesis ultimatum resolves all at once. You don't reveal card after card one at a time. You can't use a creature that brainstorms in the middle of the resolving. But it would impact the second cascade trigger from maelstrom wanderer.
Yes, all spells and effects must resolve completely and anything that gets triggered during the resolution goes on the stack and gets resolved later.
This is exploited for example when flickering Toothy, Imaginary Friend, to draw a card for each counter on him when it leaves the battlefield but still put all counters back onto it because of said draws, because the flicker effect must resolve completely before the draws happen.
Who knew Prof could build a deck?! And not only that but a deck that would get him his first win!? Congrats on the first and many more to come Prof!

Alias shouldn't have been able to cast Braids on turn 2 cause Cabal Stronghold only taps for colorless, and she needed two black.

Maybe you catch an error. Like at 50:00 He forgot to count enchantress presence as an enchantment, therefore being 2/2 off.
Which funny enough resulted in him being 1 Mana short of casting the snake at the end as someone else found out.

This wasn´t a collaboration I was expecting, but i like it! I love both Smallants and the Professors content!
Loved the content! I hate to be a downer, I know its a casual game, but there were some rulebreaks in the beginning there. Both Kamahl's Druidic Vow and Genesis Ultimatum must resolve in their entirety before any triggered abilities happen from cards entering the battlefield. So those 3 cards drawn from the ultimatum creature trigger would happen after all 5 cards are drawn/put into play. All triggered abilities would then happen simultaneously and you (the spellcaster) get to choose the order in which you stack those abilities. It can get quite complicated, if you want to keep your sanity don't ever cast 'Eureka' in commander when everyone's got a full hand.
Just played my first proper game of Magic last night and it was so much fun. Everyone was really nice and helpful and it just felt good getting out and socialising with people. The best part was breaking this guy's mono-black combo with a well-placed sorcery. I guess I'll be getting more cards now and the requisite accessories. 😅 Many thanks to this channel!
I always appreciate The Professor asking what a card does even if he knows what it is. When I was in college, I always learned best from the professors that taught like they were learning with us even though they knew the content in an out. 26:00 genesis ultimatum would have to finish resolving before the ETB for the elemental is done. You don’t stop half way and brainstorm
I am okay with honest minor errors, but that cascade into Genesis Ultimatium (and the resolution of the stack) was chock full of misplays and rules breaking. I am surprised no one called any of that out. I think that if someone is going to run a deck with specific triggers such as cascade and effects like this, they should definitely know how to resolve it properly.
Prof I just want you to know on my tombstone the inscription shall read “Reading the card explains the card”!!!🤣🤣🤣
Did Bloody resolve the Genesis Ultimatum properly? Don't you need to resolve the spell entirely before putting anything else onto the stack?
You're right. I was going to say the same thing. All permanents enter at once, and then they all trigger in whatever order you choose.

Ah, that wink from the Prof because SmallAnt missed something. Very cheeky. A very fun & cool video, love the conceit for it.
@51:52 the Hydra's Growth was taken from the 17 floating green mana making the remaining floating mana = 14. Helix Pinnacle for 1 makes floating mana = 13. By then, a player incorrectly says Prof has 17 mana, which Prof corrects to 16, when in fact it was 13. Blanchwood Armor for 3 makes floating mana = 10. Bear Umbra for 4 makes floating mana = 6. Prof still has access to 3 mana by land right now. Nylea's Colossus for 7 means his floating mana is exhausted by 1, meaning that 1 mana needs to come from one of his 3 mana possible from his lands. So at this point he has access to only 2 mana via his lands. He does not have enough mana to play Snake Umbra for 3. That said, he did have the 2 mana to play Ram Through, and did legitimately win. The only error here was playing the Snake Umbra he couldn't play. The Prof did a great job and absolutely deserved this win.
If I am not wrong he miscounted his enchants though as he missed the enchantress presence, so his creature would have another +2/+2 and he would get 2 more green mana. Therefore get enough Mana.

I actually love the idea of choosing the starting hand, everyone basically got to do what their deck is intended to do.
Would be amazing to see more of this, obviously again without anyone preparing a deck for this very challenge.^^
One of my decks, in that situation, would've taken infinite turns on turn one, with no changes to the decklist. It's a super janky build, designed to do super janky things, but I didn't realize it could do that. 😅 The craziest part is: it's a Boros deck.

nuzlocke draft, 5 pack cube draft but if a creature leaves the battlefield it's removed from your draft pool for the rest of the competition ((this is probably a really bad idea))
