Dear God, If You'll return Dusty Springfield to us just long enough for her to record a CD collection of jazz standards just like this one, I swear I'll never, never, never ask You for anything again. I promise. Please, please, please.
The greatest artists are constantly searching for something. I think she would've eventually come back to jazz. I feel deprived of music that she would've made, and sad for those pieces that are lost.
I never tire of hearing or seeing this; she looks great. Great song! Dusty the jazz singer! She certainly knew how to pick out some varied songs on her BBC shows from the sixties. Just shows she could sing almost anything. Thank you for bringing us such great music. Dusty I’m a fan…
Another BRILLIANT side to Dusty's musical personality;she was a musical chameleon who could sing excellently in almost all genres of music, and I could imagine her singing some classical pieces as well,eg,"Songs from the Auvergne" etc. However I think that because of her encyclopaedic and instinctve command of music she could never fit or be fitted into one particular cache which I think caused her much frustration ,and, maybe disappointment particularly as she got older. This song and others similar that she sang, prove that she could have become one of the greatest jazz singers of all time, but she could have been a great musical star as her versions of Bacharach and David's "Knowing When to Leave","Wives and Lovers"etc.etc .are right at the top of any interpretation;Dusty was just plainly a musical phenomenon,I only wished that she had not had such a tortured personal life for her sake as it obviously caused her tremendous psycological injury resulting in her disappearing from the music world for years especially when she would have been at her vocal peak.Fortunately we are blessed with many beautiful recordings and films of her:There will never be another Dustyl
Well said. She was a singular, incomparable gift to music. She could sing everything, and should've been more popular and had Grammys every year. Her time away would've been less sad, if she had truly found peace and lifelong love during that time.... Unfortunately it brought her a lot of pain and struggling with addiction instead. She left us far too soon. I'd certainly choose personal happiness for her and a lifelong love relationship over 1000 more Dusty songs if she were still here. She deserved that happy ending.
Oh My.. Dusty Springfield hasnt been anything but a beautiful talented singer she 's one of the greatest singer the music industry would have EVER EVER hhhhaaaaddd
wow !! One of the best Dusty klips on YT !! Just shows how versatile she could be-one doesn't really think of DS as a jazz singer- but she sure was here. Plus, she seemed to be really enjoying herself in a way that you don't often see in the vintage clips. Just BRIlliant !! And what a great tune! Excellent lyric.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE . . . Dusty come back. Just long enough for one more, this time a jazz set like this. Like Laura Nyro, I'll never stop missing you.
When I was a kid, my parents had a bunch of Dusty Springfield 45 records that we listen to. It wasn't until I was an adult that I actually saw a video of her performing and I was shocked as hell to see that she was a white lady!
Johnny Pearson was also the Music Director for Dusty's BBC TV shows in 1966 and 1967. So if you like the music arrangements for the BBC clips, give the credit to Mr. Pearson and his staff.
I found in y.t. all this Dusty's new (for me) hits that shows me her "rat pack" style. There is somebody who knows if in the DVD there is talking part too? I'm planning to buy it.
This is sooo good. Dusty is so into this especially after piano plAyer kisses her hand . I think lyric was kid glove me.. and then she gets soulful and reall turns it on with still staying so coool
Splendida Dusty Springfield, apprezzata ovunque, ed Italia particolarmente, per la sua versatilità ed eleganza. Queste testimonianze in video ci aiutano a ricordarla con ammirazione 🍀🎶😉🤗
And THAT is exactly how it has to be done. This standard has been done by everyone and his mother, but isn't Dusty's version one of the best of the bests? Yep, you heard her, somebody peel that lady a grape, now!
Smokin hot,... bluesy, soulful jazz, .... Wow, Dusty can sing anything better than you think it could ever sound. So sexy. Nobody will ever compare to the greatest of all time, Dusty Springfield!
is that really johnny pearson? wow, if that`s him that fella is a legend in british broadcasting. he wrote the theme tunes to many classic british t.v shows including itv`s iconic `news at ten` and the utterly brilliant theme tune to `superstars`.
@AaronWallace - Diana WHO? I know you mean Krall, but really. This was 40 years earlier, & a one-off live performance by someone usually classified as a pop or soul singer. Diana is a jazz singer (not pop or soul), recorded this for an album & has performed it live multiple times. Not to mention this fabulous take was done in between an Aretha song and a French epic ballad, without a break in between!!! The point is, Dusty was so versatile she could do ANYTHING phenomenally. She has no equal.
She could have made her career out of any Genre, she just performed a song in a completely different Genre, very well in fact, and went strait into a Jazz piece and sold it.. no break, practice.. getting her voice ready.. I digg Krall's style, effortless, whimsical.. but Dusty's version in my mind is better.. power when she needs it, no gimmicks, and still captures that almost Cavalier contempt Jazz singers have for their songs, like it's not really work, just talking about the way I feel right now.. tough to explain, Krall has it in spades, Dusty , simply had a better voice and more tools than anyone. I've never seen anyone master as many styles as her, her sound is almost angelic at times. I don't know where she gets that control, it's when a boatload of natural talent, meets an amazing work ethic ( couldn't walk an chew gum, but once one stage it was obsessive perfection), bloody promoters nightmare, gotta have a big band, a grand piano, a gospel choir, backup singers, a folk setup, dedicated horn section, just to cover her, lol.. I always knew she was good, but never this good ..
Flea markets are good for finding some things xrayqqq, but i think you'll find that the originals wont have the bonus tracks that were added to many of her later re-release CD's, they did this because one or two albums were not released so they added those tracks to later albums/compilations. Don't miss out, always check the internet!
Oh My Oh My . . . just superbly gorgeous . . . ain't we fortunate that this lovely Lady's creation is still with us . . . oh Dusty, would that you also were with us. Love Ya!
I expect this from my lover, because that is exactly what I do. Does anyone know any earlier versions of this song. I want to say Inez, yet I still can't find it.
Right, I bought a couple of "the best of" and "simply dusty" in order to have "spooky" too in CD right for my car stereo, I prefer Cd than MP3 but for home I like records for their sound, in this way I have either bonus tracks or original 33s.
So many excellent versions of this classic - But... This is how it's really done. The late, great Dusty Springfield. Respect 🇬🇧❤️
Who was good piano player
I was looking for the the Anita O day version but I'm so glad to find Dusty's version so freakin fab....

+unclealand oh.....alright
Im gettin hungry for french me a fry
Thomas Norman Can't you just hear how Dusty would have done "Misty," or "Lullaby of Birdland," or "You're My Thrill," or "Lush Life"?
sing us these songs after you peel us a grape
The greatest artists are constantly searching for something. I think she would've eventually come back to jazz. I feel deprived of music that she would've made, and sad for those pieces that are lost.
This is how this song should be sung! Her phrasing and tone are perfect!
She sang here like in records
She was stunning, a brilliant interpreter of song with a spectacular voice and utterly without pretension. I love her.
She should have done more jazz like this! Her voice was perfect for it.
Dusty was phenomenal. Just the best.
Wow! I never knew she sang "Jazz".
She really can sing anything.
I put her on par with Ella, and for me Ella is in her own stratosphere. Dusty is fantastic.
@J. C. I am average, you may be average. Ella and Dusty are not average.
@@elaines5412 Far from it.
Happy 2021 friend.
I totally agree.
Like Ella Fitzgerald, that beautiful Lady, they will NEVER be forgotten or replaced.
Her phrasing is flawless!! magical.
Dusty could do it all!!! She is brilliant as a jazz singer....just as brilliant as Peggy Lee.
Who is the pianist? He is absolutely excellent.
***** Thanks - looks like him from the pics I've just Googled and he did work with Dusty from what I can gather :-)

great talent incomparable, she can sing for sure my grocery list. miss her.
Dusty had the spirit... she put her heart into it!
I love this one by Dusty. She adds humor and class as well as soul to this song, which are all great combos!!! The best from Britain!
Johnny Pearson was also the Music Director for Dusty's BBC TV shows in 1966 and 1967. So if you like the music arrangements for the BBC clips, give the credit to Mr. Pearson and his staff.

@The Peter Lorre Companion Channel agreed, Krall does it well, but dust's more engaged and powerful without being over powered..
@@planegaper Yes, Dusty brings a more naturally silky, sexy, sultry quality to it.
Dusty doing Jazz. She could bring it with so many styles of music. Looking good as always.
Smokin hot,... bluesy, soulful jazz, .... Wow, Dusty can sing anything better than you think it could ever sound. So sexy. Nobody will ever compare to the greatest of all time, Dusty Springfield!
August 1967 Was The Worst Time Of My Life.
Thank God I Had Dustys Music.
Love Dusty and she did a great rendition of this song.
Wonderful & nice piano from Johnny Pearson.

Nicely done !!
That's a nice lounge act, but you should hear Anita O'Day sing this song...
What a sensual song, very creative lyrics
I love you dammit.... 😍
Husbands come...go......Brothers are forever
nice!!!
Could the pianist be Johnny Pearson?
Deevine!
Well, Peggy Lee was one of the greatest jazz singers ever and she was very white and blond. I don't think it's a question of colour.
Wow, Dusty sure knew how to act straight lol.
Who's this pianist? He's fantastic
Oh My Oh My . . . just superbly gorgeous . . . ain't we fortunate that this lovely Lady's creation is still with us . . . oh Dusty, would that you also were with us. Love Ya!
The tempo is way too fast. Check out Nancy Wilson.
This is a delicious throwaway version with spectacular vocals and virtuoso piano. Nancy Wilson was a tub of guts.
charmin´!
she sounds great singing this, but i don't believe the words she's singing, which makes dusty even more likeable and wonderful
can’t get over this
I expect this from my lover, because that is exactly what I do. Does anyone know any earlier versions of this song. I want to say Inez, yet I still can't find it.
Thank you #DustinSpringfield #KristenCole #AnitaODay for #PeelMeAGrape! #LovingIt!
Pianist also . . .exquisitely appropriate . . . salutations!
Thanks, I found some here in Italy and I'll buy it.
For CD I rather prefer finding original LP's in flea markets.
But in differing ways. Dusty was principally a melody singer. Peggy was really a rythmn singer,
@flamesounds Dusty is great, but have you heard Dame Shirley Bassey?
Swinging hard!
GODDESS ❤
french me a fry?
It's a play on words. Is it a serious question?
doesnt matter you answered it already....I love this performer...I've adopted her as my sister
