We would sit and listen to "our Dusty", together, with tears streaming down our faces, because we just couldn't get over the beauty of her voice. I love that younger people are discovering her! I'm surprised at how many there are. They should be proud of their superior taste in singers.

Some singers are technically wonderful but lack an emotional connection to the material. Some singers miss notes here and there but sell the performance with their interpretation of the lyrics. Dusty had it all- flawless vocals and a great storyteller. She truly was one of a kind. Performers nowadays should study tapes like this as a master class on how to simply stand on a bare stage and deliver it.

I don't know how true it is, but someone said that the Welsh people are such good singers because of the way the Welsh language trains them to use their vocal chords. Whatever the reason, there are so many extraordinary singers from Wales!

It was totally unannounced and completely wonderful. I remember after we left the club we went to Denny's and she asked for a cuppa tea (it was IRIS tea). Someone came up and asked her name; she looked down at the teabag, then looked up at the person and said, "I'm Iris!". What a hoot! GREAT lady. GREAT talent. Gone too soon!!!

I'm SO jealous!!! Great for you, though...awesome to hear from someone who met Dusty. No one will ever equal her talent; she sounds like a fantastic person as well (despite what certain authors may say). Thanks for sharing!

I've listened to a lot of versions of this great song, and am quite fond of the performances by Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion, but no one wrings as much emotion and pathos from it as Dusty. She was a gifted singer who also happened to possess one of the most iconic voices of pop music.

I always come back to Dusty’s version. It was great in the 60’s and 70’s and still is today. The best English version by a female singer. That cry in her voice is perfect for this ballad. She does Jacques Brel great justice.

I had a mad crush on Dusty back then.I was about 13..I first heard You don’t have to say you love me and fell in love.I use to go ice skating in the winter every Saturday and SundayThey would play music on the inside of the log cabin they had right next to the ice.You could buy hot Chocolate in there with whipped cream. What a great innocent time in America.1962 1963..What happened?I almost can not recognize America anymore.Everyone is so sensitive and offended by the least little thing.I know we received a reprieve nov 8 th 2016 for 8 years but after the 8 years I don’t know.
