    Thanks Gwen. I was starting to get some beach starts by watching your videos and help from some others on the Dockstart group. Gonna go through the steps in this video to ensure I progress in the best and safest way. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video. This is gonna help so many of us learn this tough skill while avoiding injury as much as possible. As you said in the video, learning this skill the right way will make it easier to progress to smaller foils, and use locations with different terrain and condtions.

    Salut Gwen!
    Je vis en Corse. Quel plaisir de partir du bord et aller tourner sur une petite onde qui arrive, puis rentrer au bord en se laissant porter. Next step: making turns in the wave.

    Excellent instruction and tips, thank you! One tip that I found extremely helpful for many reasons is to keep your chest centered above the board as you get on it and start riding. I feel like that’s also a key position anytime you get on foil to keep your balance and is a tip I will definitely share.
    You mentioned bruises on your knees as you learn, but you didn’t talk about your feet hitting the foil or tail. I imagine it only takes once, but do any of your students struggle with kicking any part of the foil while learning?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  Год назад +2

      If you follow the instruction on the hop technique demonstrated, your feet should always be clear of the foil, as the front wing is quite forward of your feet

    Super informative video, many thanks. Question: I own a 2023 4’3” Logic with a 650 H series foil,l and 95 cm mast, obviously not a good setup for pump foiling. I have the chance to buy a second hand X series 1650 foil with a 80 cm carbon mast. Would this setup work to learn and progress in pump foiling, or should I look for a more dedicated combo? Thank you

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube

    Thank you Gwen for this tutorial. It is very helpful. I just tried last weekend to do a beach start for the first time, but I was lost about how to do it. Now it seems to be doable also for me 🙂 I'm only not sure if my 1950 cm2 foil is big enough for my 88 kg for the beginning? I can already start 10/10 dockstarts from different docs with my 1950 foil. What do you think?

    Hi Gwen! could you advise what length of the mast is the best for beachstart if I'm 5 ft 8.11 in. tall (173 cm) and will use Axis BSC 1060 (42 in) wing and the board length is 2 ft 11.43 in (90 cm). Actually I have a 75 cm mast, but when assembled it scares me))) may be 60 or 65 cm is better? Still have the possibility to change it. I have never tried yet hydrofoil at all, but this January hope to do it and in order not to be disappointed decided to ask a pro like you. Hope for the answer

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  Месяц назад

      I would recommend a 65cm to learn. But before learning the beachstart, start with the dockstart and learn how to pump on flat water. Once you can pump for 30 sec on flat, then start practicing the beachstart

  • @lucpilon1

    What do you think about a cabrinha special agent as a starter board for pump foiling/ swell riding… my only concern is the float ability, will it be pretty much sinking if i bail? And impossible to get back up in the water.

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  Год назад

      The Cabrinha Special Agent is great, it doesn't sink, but it won't float you when swimming back. When I use and fall out there, I swim next to it and get back to shore: ruclips.net/video/UAfZJ8MHsi4/видео.html

    If I’m looking to do mostly flat water and no wind and just riding random small swells would it be better to go up to the Leviathan 1550 or 1750?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  4 месяца назад +1

      1750 is definitely not an easy foil to ride because of the wing span. 1550 is you are 200 lbs and over, otherwise 1350 is great for flat water pumping
