The V6 sounds not only quieter but better, i had the pleasure of driving both types but the 4 banger doesn't hold a candle to the V6, i did a small dragrace with the V6 and i beat a normal car with it this was just off the line on a red light and up to the speed limit but for such a big vehicle it's not afraid of some speed

I owned them both and disagree- the 5 speed is a terrible transmission and the 7 speed is a gem. Under every condition but full throttle the 2.1 and 7 speed is more reposnsive to load making really good power and shifting quicker when it should. If you put a scan gauge on both units you'll find that you have to manually shift the 5 speed a lot to stay in the most efficient load range.

I have a 2014 low top 4cyl diesel model. It gets 22 mpg as I drive 75-80mph. I've had three before this one and my last was a five speed 6 cyl. That got 16-17mpg. My 4 cyl has no problem towing a car on a car carrier. BTW: The 4 cyl model has a seven speed trans. If the 6 cyk had this, I'd never go back..

@@reality_hurtz Companies that sell hitches have them for the Sprinter. I've had a few of them, one with a factory witch which was the one Sprinter I ordered and built with all that I wanted. I will say, the V-6 is way much better for towing a car trailer with a car on it than the 4 cyl You need that torque to not hurt the vehicle.. BTW: The newer Sprinters now made in the US have a 6 cyl with a seven speed trans. I plan to road test it for comparison. The seven speed has more subtle down shifts, like going from 7th to 6th. Mild raise in rpm but increased power to get around something. With the five speed, going from 5th to 4th is OK but there just needs to be a gear in between..

      Since we’re on the same page. I have 15 glk250 (same 2.1L / same 7spd)
I’m a heavy footed driver, my previous suv was Jeep set8 (12 sec qtr. w/ light mods) anyways. This GLK around city while many times I like to WOT off the light I get as low as 21s, but usually in the 25 mpg range. Highway when I drive (not wife) average 34~36 mpg, and I usually stay above 80mph most of the time.
Once I had enough patience to cruise control set at 75mph for nearly 2 hrs. And when I got home, Speedo showed 39.8mpg. But again, I can care less for that 4-5 lower mpg, I rather drive how I want.
Btw I have the dpf/def/scr/addblue system deleted completely. And ECU properly reprogrammed. Originally went with this mod because wife mostly drives in city and I got tired of CEL’s.
Almost a year after mod. So far never a single cel, no stink, (1st cat right after turbo is still there) and no black smoke at WOT. (Confirmed multiple times by friend following me)
By the way the tune really made it peppier especially around city.
These are great motors/trans after all if you take care of them.
As for work truck I have 1st gen sprinter with 2.7L i5 diesel. (Probably one of the best diesels merc ever made)
      Dream car.
Go to Canada, buy it there and somehow bring it here. (US never offered these)
Early 2000s G-wagon with the same 2.7L inline 5 diesel with this same 5speed auto as in early sprinters or the 3.0L later ones.

So far I owned a number of Sprinters (I actually used them for work not just flipped them!): 2005 ,2007, 2010, 2013 and now I'm having a 2015 2.1 liter strait 4, but the only one with the nox sensor and blue tech problems it was the 2010 one, and I had to change a speed sensor on the 2006 one at almost 300K, otherwise they have been serving me very well. Of course, you can get a lemon with the Sprinters too, but generally if you know how to take care of them they will reward you.

marko kravcar I know what you talking about I had an old Sprinter 2006 and the rust was coming up almost everywhere back in the day corrosion was very common in Old Sprinter but the new Spinners they have fix that they're making better Metals and they use wax to spray over the metal that way it protects it more it has a 10 year warranty now

Dewaltpro picture since the this newer models you can see them on the road is the old model boxer vans like a 2003 2004 2006 around those models after those models change to a newer shape like the ones I have they made better metals and they added 20 gallons of wax that they spray all over the under and the inner walls to prevent rust that's why they have a longer warranty

I've got the 2.1 (2014) model with only 9.000 miles on the clock. I don't think there is enough engine torque. I am between remapping the engine as it has below 100 horses and losing the remaining dealer warranty, or to just leave with it. Fuel consumption is great but slow. I will probably look for a engine swap in a very far future to V6.
why did you get another Sprinter?

    • @mercedessprinterdiy8556

v6 is better for towing and hauling heavy equipment .
now i was told that there will not be new 2017 sprinters with the 2.1 L
so you will only have one choice for the future.
      now i get on my 2.1 L 22 to25 mpg but the V6 i get 18 to 20 MPG

I find the 7 speed trans to be the decider in whats more fun to drive 85% of the time. The 5 speed will hold top gear until the sun burns out making it laggy in cruise in the hills of so cal.

Worst case scenario it can be machined again. I don't know about this aluminum block stuff. I'm really terrified at purchasing that. Are the sleeves long lasting or replaceable?
