Great video Norberis - thank you for all your content. $6200 US is definitely more expensive than I was hoping! It sounds like you had to pay taxes ($3200 US). And you mentioned Crowley shipping would have been cheaper at $990 (instead of $1440). So somebody who could get the tax exemption (e.g. for relocate to DR), and used Crowley, the total could be $2590 US? ($990 shipping Crowley; $0 tax; $1600 plate) That is not too bad?
My understanding of the process in regards to tax. Vehicles are subject up to 38 percent tax. As a resident you get to skip the 20 percent tax. So now you pay the 18 percent VAT tax. 18 percent of the insured cargo or what DR Government values the vehicle at. NADA is not used in valuation. Value is subjective. On top of this a tax is levied on CO2 output. This can be 1 to 3 percent. Now you get to pay for the first tag on top of everything else. I believe you did very well on your automobile shipment. One time resident shipment will not get you out of VAT tax. This is my understanding.

Great information, but I myself would just sell my car in the U.S. , and buy a car there. Seems like a lot of hassle, and very expensive to go the shipping route. Thanks for sharing! 👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you. I do believe it's really based on a person preference whether its a good idea to ship or buy a car here. I can see why one would not want to go through the hassle. For us since the car was paid for it made sense. Even if we sold we would have only gotten around $6,000 to $7,000 for it. And the type of car we could get here would have not been the same and also when you buy a used car you never know what you are getting. But at least my experience is allowing you guys to see whether its worth it or not for you.
@@NorberisR Is it very expensive to go to a dealership there and just buy a new car. I have seen plenty of nice cars on the roads when I visit. They can’t all be shipped by the individual owners. I've heard crazy stories about people taking a ferry to Puerto Rico as tourists with their cars, then taking the ferry from San Juan to Santo Domingo, also as tourists, then keeping their car there. What I wonder is if it's even possible to get licence plates for the car that easy, and also, if when you return to the US, wouldn't they want to know what happened to your car upon arrival? I know you could bring your car here on a ferry from Puerto Rico. Not sure of the process of getting plates once it arrive but I'm sure you can or else they wouldn't allow you to bring it. As far as the Haiti comment I dont know.
wont be possible to get plates in dr because the papers from aduana they different so wont be able to get the plates unless you paid all the fees so basically that’s shipping the car .

Do Dominican citizens with a cedula get a discount on the taxes? I heard so many different answers not sure. My husband has a cedula and we are considering shipping a SUV because we are so tried of renting while on vacation there. Please let us know. Thank you in advance.
Yes, you get a discount on the taxes for one time. That is for people that are trying to retired back to the country and the car need to be on the person's name for a minimum of one year. Also that is a process that you need to follow for that via your nearest Dominican consulate.
Negra, you gotta understand, that even though you knew the dealer ppl, they still hustle some of your money. P.s, they knkw the process. I rather to do the whole process myself. Regard to buying a car over there, you dont pay high taxes for the 1st plate, but they(dealer) would add the money on the regular sale price. One question. Do custom have a list of prices of how much it would cost you send a vehicle depends on the name brand? And sorry for asking, what brand of car did you sent?
Negro, I do understand. The payment I made was directly to the DGI Office not to the dealer I knew. So I do understand. Everything and everybody in DR is not trying to hustle you. Some things just are. And this was the price period. To send the vehicle has nothing to do with customs in DR. You will need to speak with the shipping company (Crowley) to get the cost. The car I shipped was a Hyundai.

Hi Have you considered doing shout outs , video influencers on RUclips for products like Skincare products sold in USA. Of course paid . If interested let me know . Thanks
Although I understand that some people are very attached with their own vehicles, I never understood why they will go though all these complications. I'm sure that a car, any car, in la Republica would be not only less complicated to acquire, but cheaper, let alone the warranties you might get by buying local. A previously loved vehicle is as well an old one with all the "perks" that can bring with it. The same can be applied to furniture, appliances and such, unless what you ship is something indispensable that you won't find where you are planning to live (medical equipment, for instance). Buy local, anywhere in the world, and support their economy. Greetings from Toronto.
I think people typically do what best for them and not for me to understand. It's their money🤔. I'm sure they have their reasons just like we had ours.
Did it ever occur to you that maybe her channel is geared toward giving advice and information to foreigners that speak English. Maybe you are not smart enough to know that other people besides Hispanic visit the island. Matter fact if is wasn't for non Spanish speaking people visiting the island their tourist sector would likely collapse. Why do people in DR need to know what's going on in DR? They can watch the news? If you want to watch a channel in Spanish maybe you should start a channel. Based on her numbers it looks like her speak English is working for her.
Its not a ripoff. The price is what it is. Either you can afford to pay it or not. Just because you can't afford doesnt mean someone is ripping you off. Maybe you just cant afford😉
If you already have your car paid for I personally think its worth it. Because with your car you know what you have buying a used car you never know what you are getting. The 3rd party company is where the hassle came in. Had we went directly to Crowley I think it would have been better.

To my knowledge you do to have to be moving to DR but you'll only be able to do it once. There will be fees, its not like you won't pay anything.
Someone else mentioned Haiti in the comments. Seems risky.
I think now they raised the age of the car to 7 years. Is there a way to calculate exactly how much you need to pay for a car to clear it?
Where did you hear that? Taxes will depend on the type of car, the year, condition, etc. You can called the DGI office and they can give you an estimate.
What's the maximum age a car can be to still be eligible to ship it to the Dom. Rep.? I have a 2019 and I want to use for a few years before I ship it there. Until when do I have before I have to ship it? Thank you.
You have until 2024 to ship the car.
@@NorberisR Thank you.
Girl you should have been on video receiving the car, that's what we want to see
Nah, I don't need to put all that out there. You know I shipped it you seen it when I was in Florida and you see the same car here in DR.
What type of car did you send over there
Hyundai
i've looked into shipping a car to the D.R.....too much red tape....inquired to three different companies, to ship to the D.R. and was getting some expensive quotes .....anywhere form $7,000 to $9,000 for the whole process.....decided it was not worth the headache ....will be looking to buy something when i get there, i know cars and have some people there who have large dealerships....actually was thinking about just letting the dealership import me what i want, this way i would still have a warranty, in county.....the difference is not that much and not worth it for me.......
Yes, depending on the value of the car the prices can go be higher.
@@NorberisR yes your correct 👍 while I was there looking around at dealerships ...Santo Domingo motors was my favorite (but one of the most expensive)...the markups are about $8,000 to $12,000 depending on what your looking at ....
@@spanishh2001 you might want to get you a buffer so the price can come down.
Thanks for the information. I’m doing Uber for now them l will buy a car here 👍🏼👍🏼
Good. You're welcomed.
Wow I would have never thought it would be $6200 to ship the car with tags. I have 2020 Camry i outdoor probably do the same thing because it’s paid for. But I’m thinking of doing 6 months in the DR and 6 months in the US . So I may keep it here and just use a car service in the DR for now . As a American with knowing limited Spanish what areas would you recommend to live part time or full time ?
We didn't think it would be that much either. We initially thought around $4500. In regards to where to live, what part of DR will you be living.
@@NorberisR Puerto Plata is the area I was looking but not locked into it . I like the beach it’s quieter then some of them . I’m a 51 year old widower so I’m not interested in party girls I would like to meet a regular Dominican lady when the time is right . Not that it don’t like to go out and have fun but I do like some peace and quiet also . I’m I correct about that area when I was there a few years ago it seemed nice . What do you think of that area ?
Puerto Plata is a nice area From what I seen. There many expats in Puerto Plata that live there that can give you there opinion.
where is part 1 ?
The video is title "shipping my car to DR". It's there.
How much a 3 bedrooms homes with pool in a good neighborhood will cost?
Depending on the area and city.
@@NorberisR Thank you so much,
I will contact you again once knowing the location^_^
Do Dominican citizens with a cedula get a discount on the taxes? I heard so many different answers not sure. My husband has a cedula and we are considering shipping a SUV because we are so tried of renting while on vacation there. Please let us know. Thank you in advance.
Yes, you get a discount on the taxes for one time. That is for people that are trying to retired back to the country and the car need to be on the person's name for a minimum of one year. Also that is a process that you need to follow for that via your nearest Dominican consulate.
That was expensive but I understand why you all did it. Not having a car note saves a lot of cash
Yes, it was about $2k more than we expected. But oh well☺
I WANT THAT WATCH! 😅
Really? You like it😁
Negra, you gotta understand, that even though you knew the dealer ppl, they still hustle some of your money.
@@NorberisR Cuz i heard that, depends on the VIN, it will determ if the vehicle was made in USA or in another country. If the vehicle was made in the USA, suppostly, u would pay less due to the agreement of these 2.
@@NorberisR hola preciosa ese carro que usted envió ya tenia un año a su nombre o no?
I would of sold My car and just added that transportation money to buy a car there 6,500 plus the sale of the car would of been a good buy for a car there.
Yes I could have. But as I mentioned, I'd rather have the car I was familiar with which was mine. I don't have to worry about buying a lemon. And I could not buy this exact same car, 2015, here for $6,500 USD. But for those who just want any car buying here maybe the bette roption.
@@NorberisR I understand, you did what was best for you, I think they charge that much money in hopes you would buy a car 🚗 in that country. I love the videos keep putting out that great content. 👍❤
@@bigray9572 Of course this is the reason why they do it. Even when shipping TVs the taxes are so much that you might as well buy one here. Which is understandable it contributes to the local economy. Thanks for watching.
@@NorberisR thank you for the responses, are the cars expensive over there? I know the gas ⛽ prices are, and is it cheaper to have a propane car or Gas ⛽🤔
@@bigray9572 Yes it's expensive given the year of car you want. In 2015 when we lived here before we bought a 2007 or 08 Nissan Murano and it was over $8k. The gas is extremely expensive over $4 USD per gallon. It's cheaper to have propane for sure.
👍🏿
You have a connect with the same dealership I really don’t want to speak to anyone and sign a million papers like you said I don’t know about. Can I have the contact
Yes just send me an email at norberis@norberisr.com.
We are being asked over 11.000 for a Ford Explorer 2017 🤦🏽♀️
Is that for shipping and the taxes when it arrives?
I would absolutely like for you to join my project I'm working on
What project are you working on?
Better to sell the car in US then buy a car in the DR
Agreed
Prices are outrageous for a decent vehicle in the Dominican Republic. Either way, you lose....😔
I bought a 2009 VW Toureag in 2021. I wanted it because it was diesel. For 15k that’s a lot and every reliable car is expensive. It’s better to buy in the USA and send it to DR base off the prices.
Hi
Have you considered doing shout outs , video influencers on RUclips for products like Skincare products sold in USA. Of course paid . If interested let me know . Thanks
Yes I do shoutouts and promote products on my channel.
@@NorberisR Thats. Great so what is your fee for a shout out for Amazon products with a url link for purchase
Send me an email at norberis@norberisr.com
If you import an Electric Vehicle yourself you only pay half of the taxes
That's good to know. Thanks for sharing.
🤔 I don’t know what to say. Thanks for sharing Norberis
It does make you feel a certain way..lol! You're welcomed.
All I can say is, OMG!!! You could have purchased a car for what you paid to ship it. 😩 Pero yo entiendo.
Yes, I could have based on those numbers.
@Rico Touchee will the car have to be register to Haiti? what is the cost to have it register to DR?
One thing o will say is I will not be driving in dr I’m not built for it
Haha Haha....its crazy driving here.
Why this Chanel is full english if is everything about Dominican Repúblic ? And people in DR speak spanish.
Because people/Dominicans that live in the country have access or can find this information easy, where for foreigners it can be more difficult.
😂
Why you so mad???
That's alot of money to go 1000 miles
The car only cost $1400 to ship. That's not expensive. It cost $1000 to rent a U-Haul for 5 days. The cost is in the taxes when the car arrives.
@@NorberisR yes I meant the total amount. The actual shipping is ok. The fees and taxes and customs it’s ridiculous
Shipping it over there is a total ripoff just buy a new car when you're there
Its not a ripoff. The price is what it is. Either you can afford to pay it or not. Just because you can't afford doesnt mean someone is ripping you off. Maybe you just cant afford😉
I really can’t understand what she saying
Ok 👍🏾
Shipped or chipped?😁😂
Y tu español, que lo que? I think her English is just fine.
Whichever one you heard😂🤣
Beautiful woman you are hon
Oh thank you
YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOME SEXY
I rather just buy a car there it seems like a lot of hassle
If you already have your car paid for I personally think its worth it. Because with your car you know what you have buying a used car you never know what you are getting. The 3rd party company is where the hassle came in. Had we went directly to Crowley I think it would have been better.
@@NorberisR ok I have a car in the us paid for I will keep this in mind we have been just renting cars for weekend travel and scooters for daily living
Typical Dominican Republic everybody thinks people from America are millionaires
So this importing tax is only for Americans? Lol. Doesn't matter where you ship the car from. It's the same. You're comparing the Dominican government as body to an individual Dominican citizen? SMH..What a silly comment.
