I think it really depends where you live in Dominican Republic and your lifestyle. Many people live above their means in Dominican Republic, drive nice cars, and like to spend money on resorts and entertainment, drinking, dancing, spas, etc. an apartment in Piantini is about $1500 rent. But that’s Piantini. Much higher end

    • @kara.g.

100% agree! There’s no shortage of leisure activities to spend on here, that’s for sure. It all depends on your interests 🙂

Yes it does depend where you live and if you have kids. I live in the east side in San Pedro and my monthly fees with the children school averages to 1,500 u.s dollar a month. This is still cheap in Florida my monthly fees were over 5 grand a month

I live in Santiago. Believe me, everything is expensive here like in the USA except for rent. Your will need $2500 per month just to barely enjoy life and live comfortably. Anything below that is just existing in DR. Not living. You will need to own a car in DR, otherwise your life will be very inconvenient and boring

So, to leave let say in the middle class/ lower-middle class, if you rent it can be over $500 in rent and upper middle class over $1000. If you buy, with a fine downpayment on a non-high class area but nice residential, you'll pay around $800 monthly but you are paying toward your own apartment.
In regards to heatlcare, if yo get a well paying job localy, most likely you'll get law health care through your employer , sometimes they also pay for a complementary healthcare plan, if not the casa, you pay like $1500 pesos/ US $20 extra for a better plan or extra coverage.
I can say for experience that for a single person leaving alone US$2600 a month, should be enough, rent or morgage of an apartment(a house gets too expensive quickly), groceries, electricity, water, car payments, home gas is cheap and as mentioned in the video, it is a monthly expense most of the time, montly celullar plan and a high speed internet(200/300 MB, if you leave outsite Santo domingo sometimes it's difficult but you can get it).

    • @khaos2915
      @khaos2915 Месяц назад

Lower middle class/ not pay check to pay check used to get be good with US$1300.
However, after covid it's just crazy. Don't get me wrong, US$1700 is still a priviledge salary but that will change in 1 to 2 years if things keep going like this.

    I live I Spain & Dominican Republic 24 years ,
The quality of life in Spain is fantastic.
    Down side winter months .
The Dominican Republic to live in is for energy a lot cheaper.
Downside Wine & Cheeses are 30% to 40%,
    11 pesos per KW = 20c
Transport is over congestive in capital but as i live in Juan Dolio its little fishing village is sleepy secure & easy access to beaches.
Golf is available at great prices .
Great coverage on costs of living here .

If you dont fall in the living in the center on capital city which is absurd the amount you pay like if you see any house price in USD they are scamming you, cause I live 4 kms away from center and I pay 200$ for a 3 room house which is like 190m2, I know some people like the living like a king life but the minimun wage here is just 400$

One thing that’s saved me is a backup battery pack for the wifi. Hope this helps!

This is the same equivalent to leaving in states on $1800 budget. Apartment in the hood $900/ no car, buses or walking / zero entertainment or social life/no restaurants. Trust me, you will need $2500 per month to live comfortably in DR, anything less than that isn’t living. You are just existing and pretty much just stay in your house 24/7

That’s not true at all, you can pay 220 dollars for the same apartment you would pay 800 dollars living in the downtown, if you are smart you just get an apartment 10 minutes away from the downtown so you can save 500 and still live in Santo Domingo and a nice place.

I don't know if you know, but 2,000 dollars are 117,227 pesos, that is a rich salary. Maybe you're not living in Dominican Republic. For you to survive as middle class you need 1,000 dollars, that is 58,613 pesos. With 80,000 pesos, that is 1,365 dollas you live very well in Dominican Republic
