    It’s a bit crazy shipping car to Dr. You purchase your car in the states. To ship car to dr you’ll pay $2000-$3000, so add that. Once the car is in DR, you have to pay 20% value of the car in Dr. then like. Another 15-18% to get your car get out of the port. So depending on what you are sending sometimes you can find a better deal in dr.

    Now the only way you can bring any vehicle no matter the age is to get a retirement visa. All you gotta do is show proof that your retired or show proof that your generating a passive income of 1500 a month. By doing this your allowed to enter to the country duty free. Import your car and household all duty free. Not pay anything..

    Bro I also thought that cars was overpriced in DR till I imported one for myself... but man let me tell you that the amount of money custom charged me for bringing my car (Grand Cherokee 2018) was ridiculous. I paid almost six thousand grands just in tax and that's without all the other miscillenius such as parking lot, custom's paperwork, gate, importer dealership fees, and some other bullshit they made up to drained my pockets. So in other words, I ended up saving no more than $80 thousand Domincan pesos which i guess is the dealer's profit.
    So with the experience i had importing my own car to this country i realized that is not the dealership that's overpricing the vehicles, is the damn government that changes a lot of taxes to bring a car into this country

    YOU CANNOT COMPARE PRICES IN D.R. WITH THE USA,ALL OVER THE CARRIBEAN CARS ARE EXPENSIVE,THE TAX IS HIGH AND THATS WHY THE PRICES ARE HIGH,I HAVE LIVED HERE SINCE 2015 AND BOUGHT 2 CARS NO PROBLEM,IF YOU IMPORT A CAR FROM USA OR EUROPE BY THE TIME YOU BUY,SHIP AND PAY THE TAXES THE PRICE IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENT BUT MORE STRESS IF YOU IMPORT,DO YOUR HOMEWORK BRO.

    first thing you do when buying a car in the D.R. is Not going to a dealer....best way is to buy from a private owner .......yes it's best to have it inspected by a trusted shop and anything found can be talked over with the owner.....this way you'll get the best prices and quality without paying double of what's it's worth.....remember money is king here, so if you have cash in hand, they are willing to deal (bought several SUV's here and having the cash in hand, gave me the power to either buy or walk away) but if it's going thru a bank forget about that......just FYI.....

    When you say that buying a car in DR is a huge job and cars are overpriced, I kind of agreed with some of the statement. However, you contradict yourself when you also mentioned authorized dealerships. Pretty much suggesting you are better off going to an authorized dealer. Now, the reality is, DR is in an island. This means, you need to import these vehicles which is expensive on its own. Let alone you're also dealing with US marked price in dollars and when you add the importation cost, plus any local taxes plus anything the dealer wants to throw at it, then that's when you see these crazy prices. I know they could mark them down a little more but you're talking about an unregulated segment of the market. I'm Dominican and I'm planning to to move back home from Maryland. I'm not buying cars over there. Instead, I'm bringing my 2019 Ford Edge and my wife's 2016 Ford Explorer. My suggestion is, find out how you can bring it yourself.

      Hey Charlie thanks for the comment, I’m not one to watch peoples pockets on what they can and can’t do, this is just to show what happens thinking you’re going to a dealer to ge the best deal. Now shipping at the end of the day would be the smarter option knowing more what you’re sending but again everyone’s finances aren’t the same. There are very few expats who handle shipping cars abroad , most of them I meet do it themselves

      There is a strong middle class in DR. People have multiple income sources. You may see a doctor or small business owner, but at the same time he could be a cattle rancher. Unlike the US, you don’t need a license to become a real state agent or broker in DR. People buy a decent car and rent it out to tourist, before you know it, that person may have a few cars rented out making a few hundred dollars a day. Dominicans hustle, you don’t know the hacks to the system. It’s easy to say “it’s dirty money”.
      Per the US, only US$100 million are laundered in DR every month. That’s insignificant in an economy bigger than Puerto Rico’s. DR’s US$128 billion. They project a 79% growth in this decade(by 2030). Entrepreneurship is not complicated in DR as long as you have money or access to it.

    You can fake a Car Fax as a dealer and individual. If as an individual you are buying a car and need a car fax, please get it yourself. Also, Any Brand Specific dealership in any country can pull up a vehicle if they wanted to by vin number. So when buying a car specially in Dominican Republic, please take that extra step of taking that vehicle to its specific dealership if there is one in the country. Avoid these home grown "mechanics" you see out there.

    This video is sort of discouraging. Can you research some reputable used car dealers in the DR and give us some suggestions or a guideline? Everyone doesn't want to buy a new or high priced car and I'm sure there has to be a few used car dealerships that are trustworthy? I would think the average expat would be comfortable with paying no more than $10k for a decent used car. It seems like your video only highlighted higher priced vehicles which isn't attractive to a foreigner at all. Do you know any foreigners that have gotten good deals on used cars at all, we want to hear their stories. That type info can be good for the foreigner moving to the DR, the used car dealer and your channel I think. Thanks bro, keep doing what you do.

      Chef like Charlie states you can find cars from Facebook to Corotos, it’s just a matter of knowing if you’re looking for something in specific it’s going to cost, so you might want to look at options about shipping or just buying something cash outright. But be aware, reputable and cheap for cars in the DR can be like searching for a unicorn in Walmart

    • @ChapapaTV
      @ChapapaTV  2 года назад +1

    • @RealBadCharlie
      @RealBadCharlie 2 года назад +1

      @@ChapapaTV Indeed. But even there, you can still find great deals close to 10K. I can't mention specific for sake of privacy, but a friand of mine just bought a 2015 Ford Escape with 103k miles for DOP 700,000 pesos, which is about $12k at 58 exchange rate. That wasn't a bad deal. I paid $60 bucks to CarFax for a Vehicle Report and the car had only one owner and never been to an accident here. These types of deals be found all the time in DR. All you need in patient and be cautious.
