Hey Mark. I just wanted to say thanks for this. My wife and I lost our son in April at 38 weeks, and I've been kicking around the idea of learning to play guitar specifically to play Tears in Heaven for him. You convinced me to show my wife what I want to learn for him.
I've never really commented before but I want to say that I truly do appreciate you guys doing this almost every day, I always look forward to what you guys have to show and it always helps me be in a better mood, so thank you guys! #flattopfriday
Something Schrammish I would just like to echo the sentiment. Thank you Mark and Jen for my daily education and vintage guitar dreams fix. To be in Mark's shoes and play all those wonderful guitars.. oh man.. You're one lucky devil Mark! Thanks guys!
I earn a living teaching and playing electric guitar mostly, but without exception old Martins of any description are my favorites on GOTD. Mark & this old beauty had me singing along as I mulled up a medicinal bud.
In my stupid teens I didn't understand the love people have for old instruments. Surely people today can make a guitar or violin or whatever just as good or better right? Then one day I walked into a bar and in the corner was this old dude playing away on a guitar. No one else was paying him any attention, just talking and drinking but I was absolutely floored by the tone coming out of this old dude's fingers. What was he playing? A 1930s Martin. There's just something special about them that sings to me.
Mark, I ABSOLUTELY HAVE LOVED GUITAR OF THE DAY, this week!!! When I watched an episode this week I asked myself, how ever can Mark and Jen top that? I remember I said to myself, I said "self, how could they top that?" but here they were the very next day with an episode that was not just simply able to live up to the previous days offering but surpassed it.
Every time you do one of these Martins I find it incredible that it makes that much amazing sound from just one unamplified guitar through a shitty phone mic over RUclips. What amazing instruments.
Mark… dude You are one of my favorite acoustic players and I am not just blowing smoke I could watch and listen to U play all day … great job.. By the way Hi Jen
When I was speccing out the custom acoustic in my profile pic, in 2009, the guitar shop who handled the order showed me several high end guitars to assess what I wanted in an acoustic. They showed me one of those Eric Clapton 000-42s which was a delight to play. What I do remember about that instrument was the movement of the guitar as the lower notes were played. What Mark says about scallop bracing and the movement of bass freqs was experienced. It boomed!
What a WOW guitar! This video is worth hearing Mark play "Tears in Heaven" and then "Layla" which are two great Eric Clapton (Cream) songs that were recorded on this model of guitar.
Saw Eric Clapton at RAH this year. Couple of things, you kinda knew he would play Tears In Heaven and also his acoustic version of Layla. Didn’t think I would enjoy Tears In Heaven that much live for some reason but really actually did. Layla I still would of so much rather heard in it’s full electric glory on stage. Your version here on the Martin was pretty cool with no vocals though Mark. Great experience seeing Clapton live for the first time anyway. What a professional at 72 years old.
I could hear the tone from the first strum in the "gear unloading" video. It is not just the scalloped bracing that makes for the great bass, The installation method of the abalone allows the top to vibrate better... A lot of research has been done by guitar builders.
WHAT A BEAUTY ~ I BET IT RINGS TRUE ~ MARTIN GUITARS ARE AN ART FORM AS EVIDENT IN THE DETAIL ~ HERE IT COMES ~ SO FULL & DEEP WIDE AND TRUE ~ FINGER STYLE IS GREAT ON THIS INSTRUMENT ~ ARTICULATE WITH A PICK ~ THIS GUITAR PERFORMS ~ I LOVE MY MARTINS BUT THIS THING IS A MONSTER ~ CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042 MARTINVILLE USA
Mark ...I knew during Norm's video of the new hoard, which guitars we were going to see ... Norm was talking and you were taking pics of the ES355, Yeh ! Norm continued to talk and you were tuning up the Martin. I couldn't wait either. I need to win the Powerball.

This one sounds fabulous-- I don't care how much it costs! Excellent playing as well-- good job.
Nothing like a little acoustic Clapton for flattop Friday. Thank you Mark

Do you really know all those songs by heart or do you practise them to get up to speed? Beautiful guitar played by a master. Great stuff Mark.
I know we normally don’t talk prices on stuff but this is a 6 figure Martin right?
Just an educated guess, Chris ..... 125K
itll probably in some asshole dentist's den
It sings...beautifully.
What a gem
Wow! It really sings out on those slide intervals on Tears.
So I wonder what people are guessing on the asking price for this baby? My guess is at least about 30G.
Keith Ling Ha!
Keith Ling a little higher.
$100,000 - $180,000 maybe.
Wow, Rock on!!!
