- December 11, 1994 - En route to Tokyo from Mania, the pilots aboard PA 434 are jolted by an explosion. An explosive device has gone off in the cabin and the damage is extensive. The pilots have no choice but to attempt an emergency landing. The flight crew rein in the unwieldy plane and land it safely. The device was located directly under a Japanese businessman's seat and severed him in two. Ten other passengers were also injured. Miraculously, these were the only casualties.

The actual pilots had a great sense of humor as they narrated the landing. Great job recovering the aircraft, and finding an alternate means of controlling it!

@@dominikaksiazek7177 one thing does not rule out the other, it's actually pretty common to use humor as a coping mechanism for traumatic experiences.
No mention about this on this program but the poor guy who was killed, investigators or first responders (don’t remember which) found the lower half of his body in the cargo bay.
Jesus... what a horrible way to go, and just because he was randomly assigned this seat. I mean it's better than two seats behind, taking the hole plane but what terrible luck to sit in the one seat in the one plane that had a bomb.

Thankfully the monster who planted the bomb was terrible at his craft. It’s not okay that there was any loss of life however it was a godsend that the explosion failed to breach the hull of the aircraft as you well know that would have been a catastrophic explosive decompression and that would have been a bad likely unrecoverable event.
Plus missing the fuel tanks as well.

@@TiredCapybara Would have been nice to have season and episode in the title. They do have a contract with ACI, so it's not unthinkable they'd post a new one. ACI is such a mess... some seasons on this channel most of the country code locked, some on another channel, almost all coubtry locked, a few seasons on Disney some on Hulu.... damn I just want to have them in one spot and not need 7 subscription services. I'd buy DVDs but a box set is so damn expensive.
@@TiredCapybara About a month ago (starting with 'Southern Storm"), this channel started re-uploading episodes that they already uploaded last year...I think that might be the OP's point. Yes, they are all old episodes, but, there are 200+ previous Mayday episodes and not all have uploaded yet (only about 80 of those episodes have been included, so far. Yes, I went back to count them and gave the channel the benefit of rounding up. It took less than 5 minutes. Wish the person controlling the uploads would do the same). Up until 'Southern' every old episode was, at the very least, a 'new' upload to the channel. It seems that a new person is in charge and not bothering to look at the videos already in their repertoire. I still like the channel, so, I'm staying subscribed, but, it would be nice to have the rest of the 120+ old episodes included.
I've had to create a list of watched episodes based on the flight number which is usually in the top summary (an entry like this one "494: bomb under seat") The flight number transcends the Season/Episode for the channel, so if the story is covered on another disaster channel, I can still tell I've seen it already.
One of the few times clapping when the pilots lands the plane is 100% appropriate

@@CommanderCodey All this ACI stuff is country locked. Some countries have different seasons on Disney and wherever so the YT channel can't have it in that country.

@@nickforgie4290 Not where I live. 16-22 on Disney, a few over here a few on another channel. But usually only some episodes per season not all of them. I think Apple TV owns the early seasons here in EU.

Why does the commentator always say “on a routine flight from…..”?
If they knew it wasn’t going to be a “routine flight” why would they take off?
Good point but I think a routine flight just means that maybe the pilots fly this route very often and are familiar with it? Or that a lot of planes fly this route with nothing happening so you don't expect anything bad.
There are a lot of reasons to do unusual flights. Repositioning flights. Pilot check flights. Charter flights. Parking the plane because of a worldwide incident.
Hmmmm. Interesting. But already knew it was none of the above when planned out the flight so again I pose the same question.

"Interviewed" at a philippinian police station he did not breake down😮. It means he did not breake down and talk even when "interviewed" by the police. Police in Manila dont just " interview" you if you are a criminal, a terrorist . They dont just ask you politely 😅at least not back then.
