If you want force a native French to speak English adress them in French They don't want anyone insult their beautiful language. Unless French is second language. Then the tolerance is much higher, and a smooth wonderful way to learn to practice French - step by step because it's all in the music of that language. After changing from English to French for a long long while, switching back tó English it felt llike a "Guel de boit" as chewing a brick of wood. You were lucky she was native Spanish speaking . But I don't understand your French at all, sad to say. It should be by "doxa" - be forbidden for English natives try any other languages than English. The talent just isn't there. But your English is great and well used!!! Many a person is quoting you - dancing down the streets - everywhere!! (Listening to English football commenators I always ask "What French team is Lion - pronounced as the animal? Are you kiddn me?) I'm Swedish by the way
