Magnus Carlsen is "salty" for Lichess Titled Arena 6

- This is a 2-hour bullet chess tournament, Lichess Titled Arena 6, I provided commentary on while specifically observing World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen compete. I livestreamed this event at twitch.tv/ChessNetwork. Lichess Titled Arena 6 is held for titled chess players only, namely Grandmasters, International Masters, FIDE Masters, National Masters etc... Magnus Carlsen played under "damnsaltythatsport", a new account created the day of the tournament. This was the 6th "Titled Arena" held by lichess.org. Its $1,000 prize pool goes to the top 5 players, with 1st - $500, 2nd - $250, 3rd - $125, 4th - $75, and 5th - $50. This tournament was played on August 4th, 2018.

ChessNetwork lol, I was suspecting another super GM. :-)
Love your commentary! Super enjoyable to learn from someone knowledgeable on high level chess games, I wouldn't know what the hell Carlsen's intentions with his moves were otherwise. I hope I can get beyond 1450 ranking someday soon :P
38:45 it's a logic resign , knight b3 & it's over
Extremely high level commentary. Don't know how you keep up.
I second that. No one better.
Very entertaining as well!
Simply strong player.
"pattern recognition"
jerry is rated 2500 on lichess as well i believe, so no surprise really
Watching two of the best pros in their craft, Carlsen in chess and Jerry in broadcasting.
No one better than this two.
Jerry playing and Magnus commenting, probably is even better?
lol magnus would be cringing at every move
Agree, the future of chess reporting is here
Svidler is up there though
Magnus was using a cheat engine the whole time, his brain. Not fair.
:)
LOL! He's the strongest player in the world and define fair.
@@Lookoutpacks that's the joke alright calm down buddy
@@vindj2391 u2
Lucaskingofchess I would suggest you read the message again. He actually agreed with you, he said Magnus’s brain was so good that his brain felt like a cheat 🤣
20:25 I never thought I would see it in my lifetime... the GLITCH GAMBIT!
KingDavidusLongScrotum IV only world champions.
first a magical rook now an invisible pawn
I think what happened in this game is Jerry's window opened up at the same time white played 1.e4, and somehow that move did not get registered. You can see that the move list on the right is showing black's moves in the white column, and vice versa. Later the bishop moves to e2 on top of the phantom e pawn. Very weird glitch but I assume it would only affect spectators, not the actual players.
It's not nearly as bad as the AFG, Adobe Flash Gambit.
Jerry doesn't know about the bishop taking your own pawn rule on e2 rule.
Derek Sands this is why carlson is #1
20:04 the bishop just casually takes his own pawn hahahha what a screen fail
Fabs what the hell was that lol
I've been watching your videos for almost a year now and only just subscribed. The commentary on the 5th game against Rebecca Harris was just amazing.
Amazing vido! Thanks for the commentary, Jerry!
I think the sounds of piece movement is essential for bullet.
There's certainly a handicap when playing without sound. It'll occasionally happen that I blink, and miss my opponent's move.
I enjoyed watching this one without the piece sounds. It made for a smoother flow.
Good point. Now I know how I have been losing some games in bullet. Thanks for the tip! :)
@@ChessNetwork So that's how I need to beat you! Good to know.
Drdrunkestien is carlsen
Thanx for streaming and guidance through this event! Your commentary, as always, was lighthearted and fun to watch,
and you picked the right one to follow right from the start! - Meanwhile confusion was all over the place, when a “salty one” was sneaking in, in the last moment, haha!
I would have wildly clicked around and missed half of the show figuring out what the hell is going on.
At 38:52, I’m pretty sure Magnus had Knight to b3 (Nb3!!). This would block off the square the bishop wants to get to in order to capture the pawn. Best resistance by White would be to capture the knight at that point (Bxb3).
EDIT: The King is actually getting in the way of the Bishop trying to get on a new diagonal in a hypothetical last stand to hunt down the pawn. But the bishop can’t make use of b1 anyway, the pawn would have been pushed and would smack it right down and happily queen ;)
When I watch your tournament narrations on 1.5 or 2x speed you sound like an auctioneer. It's hilarious and still instructive.
Stop forgetting to start your videos with "Hi everyone it's Jerry" I don't care how excited you are to get into the content. That's your brand. HI EVERYONE ITS JERRY SAY IT WITH ME NOW
It was a livestream though, not a video.
He's salty for youtube.
@@FromTheMountain he should drop a "hi everyone it's jerry" every few minutes for all the new viewers, it's only fair
@@SynsityGW lol
Absolutely love your content, Jerry. When are you getting your FM title?!
keeeep on that fantastic work Jerry thx for your Videos ;DD
thank you for this, i forgot to watch it because i got busy but now im so glad i can watch it here
Comcast gambit :D
Love your comments throughout the games Jerry. the best. Just as entertaining as instructive
Great job commentating on these mind-melting games Jerry!
This is the pinnacle of my enjoyment of the evening. This is pure chess enjoyment. Thanks, Jerry.
Very well spotted in the beginning there Jerry, you oughta seek a job as a senior detective 😊
You would know agent. 😎
Very nice commentary. Great video and it is always cool to watch Magnus play chess.
You can see the glitch at 20:30 in the opening. Carlsen gets his light square bishop on d3 despite seemingly not moving his e or g pawns, which is probably why you correctly observed that it was a strange looking opening. If you look at the smaller game view during the lobby screen view you can see that Carlsen does actually play e4 after d4.
It's my 19th birthday today! Thanks for the awesome upload! Subbed since the chess cube days, loving the content then and now.
Cool! Happy birthday! What a video to have uploaded on your birthday ^^
Thanks for the upload, but how did you "suspect" so early on that it was Carlsen?
I have a massive headache! Great vid though, cheers for supplying!
He made those GMs look like beginners
Frøken Glattbarbert Stillas-sikkerhetsinspektør except Rebecca Harris
Is Rebecca Harris Eric Hansen?
No. It's the young kid prodigy Naroditsky. or whatever his name is. :)
Not really. Some of them won.
Ceronocero No, as good as the chessbrahs are, they don’t compete at this level.
Was waiting for this video since the lichess arena started! Better to hear you than see magnus! Yes, I am chessnetworking!
Brilliant live commentary. So well done.
38:54 61. Bd5 Nb3 and pawn promotes
1:24:18
That's a hell of a pre-move gambit on Rebecca's part. He could have easily lost if Magnus had looked at the board for a half second first.
Oh my God. He did it again at 1:30:46. Magnus would no doubt have pre-moved Bxb2; he wasn't ready to actually move again after Rebecca just moved the king.
@@cptnoremac so nice to see now that I know that thats Naroditsky
It was indeed a glitch with liChess at 20mins in.
"Little Plotkin is berserking the salty one." I don't know why that sentence just made me crack up. Thank you for uploading this !
Amazing watch, thank you for this I learned a lot.
Thanks for the stream

Choparoni!
Gotta love Jerroni!
That clickbait title and fire thumbnail! PogChamp Kreygasm
always great work Jerry! Thanks
Dude I'm so glad I found your channel I was watching a guy named agmator or something like that , anyway I just couldnt take the accent of his anymore and he always uses and engine to analyze games and uses its analysis to commentate as if he is seeing these "right" moves
19:33 Nice Bishop!
TheMasterMind ..how
TheMasterMind. 19:31 and black moved first lol
Matei Popescu white played 1. e4 but the board didnt show
I'm glad Im not the only one who saw an impossible move.
I think when he switched back from the standings somehow it was just at the right time that his browser missed 1. e4. At 19:30 you can see black moves first and it's recorded as 1. d6. At 19:38 you can see black castle then play Nd5 without white moving, but e5 is shown on the move list (as 5. ..e5 instead of 6. e5). Obviously it was displaying correctly for the players.
1:23:54
Crime reported: A salty and a battery.
I don't get why he didn't just play Bg1 after Qf1. He's queening next move anyway...
That would certainly lead to a draw after Bb6
@Tokisaki Kurumi didnt understood why is Bb6 a loss 🤔
How was that a legal move at 19:50? It looks like the bishop jumps the pawn in the opening... is that legal?
Right off the very bat the bishop went through a pawn??
I swear Chess Network giggle is literally a relaxing sound
DrDrunkenstein at 2:03:47 with 0 points
msb2 is Matthias Bluebaum (#2 in Germany)
I appreciate the effort and time put into making Magnus Carlsen a salt shaker, however much or little.
39:00 why weird resign? Black plays knight B3 and the Bishop is cut off from attacking Whites pawn. White King is on C3 so if Bishop takes Knight the King takes Bishop and pawn marches to become a Queen.
Im actually more impressed that you could even keep up with the moves and the outcome of exchanges with these lightning paced games
Jerry, do you work at all? Also, I don't really understand why there are so many low quality videos put out full of blitz and bullet games. Why not just collect the strategic and tactical highlights and teach those in a condensed 15 minute highlight reel video like IM Kislik does on his channel?
This is not a "low quality video". I thoroughly enjoyed this. Bullet/blitz is about action, not analysis.
"I hate playing against this guy, he's so much better than me. Sad but true." - Carlsen on RebeccaHarris, April 2018
Tesla Death Ray where did he say that lol
he said it on Twitch
yes who is she/he?
RebeccaHarris = Daniel Naroditsky

Lichess Arena 4, right? The stream with the amazing comeback.
Jerry, quick question. What exactly does 'IQP' stand for? I hear you say that every once in a while, but I don't know what it means.
Isolated Queen Pawn
Thanks. I thought it would be 'inside' Queen pawn, or something like that.
11:49 Bc5. He missed it. He’s human. Thanks God.
I gotta say man I really like how you break down chess. It's making me want to learn and start casually playing the game again.
Do it!😎
Is there any possibility that during those live games any player could use engine analysis and follow moves suggested to win?
There's a watchdog sistem that recognizes players that use engines
I'd love to see Jerry's audio superimposed on video of Carlsen as he is playing. Extra Salty!
One of the better chess commentators on the net over recent years. Glad you've stuck with it Jerry.
Love the commentary! Fancy!!
Great video! Thank you!
Good catch man. Keep it up
Hey Jerry, how did you get to assume it was him? Simply because he was anonymous?
Can someone explain to me how at 19:34 the bishop moved over the pawn? Is that a new chess rule i didn't know about?
Congrats to Jerry for sneaking out the sneakiness first than anyone else.
Can you cover the game between Mamedyarov and Carlsen at Biel round 6 please?
I see a salty magnus right there
At 19.36,how could the white bishop be at d3 when the e2 or g2 pawns are not moved yet ??
Exciting tournament!
at around 19:35, how did the bishop go to d3 (2.Bd3)?? it seems like there is a mistake there
aaah is ee the glitch was mentioned afterwards
How long have you been playing?
31 years
1:37:28 If he had promoted to a knight, this game would have gone down in chess history as the 'Immortal Flag'.
19:32 what happened here?
How was the bishop able to move without any of the pawns making space?
Fabs, must be a glitch?
it was the same glitch that happened at 20:15 the pawn had already moved.
yeah and black made the first move somehow
White played pawn to E4 on the first move, but lichess didnt show it. Thats why black apparently moved first, the bishop could get to D3, then 'ate' its own pawn. When black moved twice in a row, white moved his pawn to E5.
How was that a legal move at 19:50? It looks like the bishop jumps the pawn in the opening... is that legal?
I love your giggle...
Out of curiosity, how does the site know that Carlsen is a GM?
It's a title you recieve with rating. Everybody knows Magnus is a GM anyways, including Lichess.
did magnus stream the arena himself as well?
He was streaming just before arena, not sure if he streamed arena
Lmao i love it, this guy is beating fide masters and grandmasters left and right with ease, this must be carlsen
Jerry, at 38:52, Nb3 wins. I believe that's why white resigned.
Great stream laughed my ass off

1:28:14
1:42:17
1:46:17
Playback speed 0.25... Enjoy the games, and Jerry's stoned voice... :D
38:45 Is because of Nb3, no? Blocking the bishop's view of a2, plus white's king is offside.
38:47 He Just blocks the bishop with Nb3 and then pushes the pawn since the knight is supported by the king. I'm surprised you didn't see it because you totally called it a few seconds before when you said, "Ok we are gonna see something tricky here." hahaha great commentary!
Does anyone know who GM Knight-King is?
@38:49 You seem surprised that white resigned. But after black plays Nb3 then he queens the pawn without white being able to give up his bishop for the pawn.
38:52 white resigned because black was going to play Nb3 and there is no way stopping the pawn
19:50 How did the white Bishop happened to be on d3? Neither e2 nor g2 is empty.
38:45 Of course not a3-a2? Just Nb3, game over.
Dammit! I missed the stream!
2:13 can someone tell me why king just didn’t take bishop... please
Options → Playback speed → ×0.25 → *ENJOY*
I miss these
38:50 white resigned because of Nb3?
MCHappster yeah, the knight block and is gg
Yeah. And Magnus trolled him with the wait.
came here to say that
The chat was screaming tat during the livestream lol
Yes
wow that's amazing how carlsen is able to take his own piece
1:56:55
I don't see how taking the pawn is losing. I just set this up and played against Stockfish and it was a draw after taking.
Never get tired of hearing "the Comcast Gambit".
What is glitch Gambit?
Can someone pls explain how the heck the bishop got to d3 at 19:34???
I play video at x.75 and it is still too fast to see whats happening for me.
imagine having to think that fast for 2 hours straight
At 20:03 did the white bishop capture its own pawn on e2?
Djeser is Chile's first board, I know that. He uses the same nick in every web site.
Best thumbnail ever
Can anyone speculate how Carlsen would stand against Nakamura in 1|0 currently?
Quantum Horizon Carlsen has played naka before on chess.com tournament just look it up on RUclips and Carlsen won pretty handily.
9:12 what is "IQ pee position"?? And he mentions it like few times
IQP-Isolated Queen Pawn
19:30 Black moved first, and I swear in that game Magnus put a bishop on top of his pawn on e2.
EDIT: White moved e5 on move 5, but never played e4. Weird game.
EDIT: Magnus played e4 on the first move, but it never registered, shifting all the other moves back one. I think I done figured it out.
Alexander Goldthorpe this doesn't make any sense
