Fun fact about the HUGE game for the tournament comeback vs Danya at 1:23:42 was that David Howell sat behind him and informed Magnus of the trapped queen and they started yelling "cheater!" after winning the game haha.
I don't know what will happen next, but I am absolutely sure Magnus is not a usual champion. He has something tremendous in his play, impossible to describe. I think he even surpassed Kasparov in chess greatness. So happy to be a contemporary and to realize that first Match I watched was first Carlsen's Match. And I came to chess exactly at the same time he got a champion's title. And... you know, the most interesting thing in Carlsen's identity is that, being a Champion, he has a great passion to the game, he loves the game and what is he doing. He is an absolute beast, a truly Champion as should be. Thanks to ChessNetwork we can watch this chess genius with incredible high-level and extremely clear live commentary :) Always with a like ;)
We are so lucky to have a WC who will do this in public - no fear, no reputation protection, no coasting. Maybe Kasparov would have done the same, if this sort of thing existed when he was in his prime? Other than him I don't think any other WC in history would have been so prepared to gamble with his reputation like this.
@@caotuanvo8480 It isn't really a tournament like any other is it? It isn't the World Championship, or one of the Grand Prix, or Wijk - it's just a monthly internet romp. If any WC turned up at random minor internet tourneys and regularly lost, he'd quickly become and object of derision. All other WC's have carefully rationed their appearances to the most vital tournaments where there was prestige for winning , and only faced the toughest opposition when it suited them. Magnus plays everything that's put on really, and every loss is a major news story - it takes guts to keep putting yourself in the firing line.
Magnus has shown he can beat the rest of the world regularly in regular chess, and he is good enough to compete with the likes of Hikaru in speed chess. He even won that SCC in 2017. He is approaching the greatness of Kasparov, and will surpass him in the eyes of many if he defends successfully again. It will be a challenge as the younger talent has the benefit of better instruction via the internet, and he is getting old, but he is still consistently playing at the highest level, and none in the recent challengers' tournament deserved the opportunity to challenge him more than Ian N.
Did I just spend 1 hour 41 minutes and 7 seconds watching a youtube video in the middle of the night? Yes. Will I be able to go back to sleep now? Uncertain. Any regrets? None whatsoever.
the match at 3 minutes is against "NM Jasugi" whois the current Crazyhouse World Champion. Jasugi is playing a 60 game 3 + 2 crazyhouse match against Catask. They played the first 20 games yesterday, the next 20 games tomorrow, and the final 20 games on Tues. Jasugi is amazing at Crazyhouse, but the challenger Catask might just be the best in the world and become world champion in 2021!
I watched MAgnus' stream on this, and they were getting hammered. It was hilarous to watch WC Carlsen talk smack and get drunk while playing chess. It seems like his friends keep him humble though. That was nice.
It was amazing watching magnus live with his friends drinking beer vibing to music winning this tournament. Crazy comeback too! he was getting so hype hahaha!
I begin to understand why he lacks motivation. He seems to be able to take down anyone, anywhere, anytime, any format. He has to look for competition elsewhere, so maybe "DrGalacticstein" is coming up next! 😎👍
I think he just likes the faster time controls more than classical. His playing in the rapid and blitz championship His also not as dominant there as in classical so maybe thats it too
1:06:35 What the heck was White doing in this game? Spending several tempi trading off a bishop for a knight; trading away his crucial Bg2; giving up the file...it's like he was trying to lose as quickly as possible.
Who are you? I know weird question, but you are always really fast keeping up with whatever is going on, analysing insanely quickly what's the purpose behind the moves and the goals while people do 3 moves in a second. The only time I saw you struggle was with Magnus vs Andrew Tang in a titled, where no one knew that it was Andrew - and considering how insanely fast and high level they played, that's understandable. But it seems like you can easily keep up with people making quick decisions with a rating of 2800+. Either way, really nice commentary, I enjoy it a lot. Very impressive.
Thank you. I recently (about 4 months ago) opened 2 merch stores (NA & EU) for the first time. chessnetwork.myspreadshop.com (NA) or chessnetwork-eu.myspreadshop.co.uk (EU)
Fantastic bullet chess! I learn absolutely nothing because it is 1+0, but so impressive and fun to watch. 12 in a row was some finish! If it was 2+0 I think Championstein would be dominating a huge lot more. 😛There are a few titled players who are even better at flagging than Flagnus
great to see you commenting here and interacting with the youtube audience! I love your commentary but really miss you tournaments of 3-check and KOTH. will you return to that?
He's a kid from Belarus. But his performance is highly suspicious to me. Two of his games against Carlsen were flawless which in itself is strange considering this is bullet. He also won title arena on chesscom.
The new world order/the new normal is at least giving us an all time high in chess streamer quality. So impressive play. Extremely knowledgeable narration.
Has it occurred to you Carlsen is world champion and probably has a direct line to the Lichess mods and creators? A simple call would be enough verification to allow him access to the tournament. Having the world champion is great marketing for a non profit chess website.
Someone actually made a lichess forum post asking why Carlsen was allowed multiple accounts and the founder replied with "because he's the world chess champion" and closed the thread lmao
@@cubesandpi, yes, I remember that thread and I disagree with Thibault here. Dura lex sed lex: either rules for everyone, or you need to change the rules, no exceptions. Just because I don’t see anything wrong with making multiple accounts (without bad ideas like sandbagging, cheating etc.) I personally find it’s funny when Magnus is playing from different accounts all the time. But why only Magnus is allowed to do that - that is another question which needs an answer.
What account name will Carlsen come up with next? 🤔

We don't deserve a chess world champion like Magnus - he makes the world better by existing, and living in Naka's head rent-free.

Anyone ever get tired of Jerry saying "A resigner? A resigner."? Because I certainly don't.
Watching magnus literally trash talking his opponents was so much fun to watch 😂
It's crazy to think that magnus can just decides "you know what? I feel like winning the tournament today" and start winning games after games
"A game of thorn pawns. Game of Thorns!" Love it. Thanks Jerry
Can you imagine he was drunk with his friends and still won the tournament? Truly a chad

Thanks for the video Jerry, always a pleasure. Also, congrats to Magnus for the win and the much needed cash injection.

Hoping this will become a top comment; it deserves it.
This is the most impressive chess I've ever seen. Fantastic commentary as always. What a video... jeez
The best chess youtuber, by far.
Magnus was drunk as usual while streaming this on twitch, watching him was more entertaining than all the WC games
If that's what it takes to improve and win chess games I'll start drinking beer from now on while playing chess!
One of the cool things about jerry, is that he treats the pieces humanly, like, the way he describes them when grabbing space and squares, advancing
Holy shoot! That was epic! Great commentating, thank you Jerry.
The ending at 8:00 was amazing bullet gameplay
Magnus doesn't give up... he's an endgame expert. That's a lot of work for $500.

How is it that Magnus creates an account and is able to play in a tournament outrightly with no sufficient games?
Because the website moderators can grant access to every function most likely, after confirming that he is who he claims to be ofc
The yellow GM/IM/FM/NM titles are granted by mods once you verify who you are, so they would just allow access
Because carlsen is world champion
