  • In this video I watch Magnus Carlsen play in the Lichess Bullet Titled Arena December 2021. The newly minted 5-time World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen played under the new account "DrChampionstein", created the day of the event. I began streaming Carlsen’s games at twitch.tv/ChessNetwork 20 minutes into the 2-hour event of 1-minute chess. Lichess Bullet Titled Arena December 2021 is held for titled chess players only, namely Grandmasters, International Masters, FIDE Masters, National Masters etc... Its $1,000 prize pool goes to the top 5 players, with 1st - $500, 2nd - $250, 3rd - $125, 4th - $75, and 5th - $50. The tournament began December 18th, 2021 at 2:00 PM EST.

    Fun fact about the HUGE game for the tournament comeback vs Danya at 1:23:42 was that David Howell sat behind him and informed Magnus of the trapped queen and they started yelling "cheater!" after winning the game haha.

    I don't know what will happen next, but I am absolutely sure Magnus is not a usual champion. He has something tremendous in his play, impossible to describe. I think he even surpassed Kasparov in chess greatness.
    So happy to be a contemporary and to realize that first Match I watched was first Carlsen's Match. And I came to chess exactly at the same time he got a champion's title.
    And... you know, the most interesting thing in Carlsen's identity is that, being a Champion, he has a great passion to the game, he loves the game and what is he doing. He is an absolute beast, a truly Champion as should be.
    Thanks to ChessNetwork we can watch this chess genius with incredible high-level and extremely clear live commentary :)
    Always with a like ;)

    We are so lucky to have a WC who will do this in public - no fear, no reputation protection, no coasting. Maybe Kasparov would have done the same, if this sort of thing existed when he was in his prime? Other than him I don't think any other WC in history would have been so prepared to gamble with his reputation like this.

      What reputation? This was a tournament like any other

    • @thisnicklldo
      @thisnicklldo 2 года назад +10

      @@caotuanvo8480 It isn't really a tournament like any other is it? It isn't the World Championship, or one of the Grand Prix, or Wijk - it's just a monthly internet romp. If any WC turned up at random minor internet tourneys and regularly lost, he'd quickly become and object of derision. All other WC's have carefully rationed their appearances to the most vital tournaments where there was prestige for winning , and only faced the toughest opposition when it suited them. Magnus plays everything that's put on really, and every loss is a major news story - it takes guts to keep putting yourself in the firing line.

    • @hitchensghost
      @hitchensghost 2 года назад +2

      Magnus has shown he can beat the rest of the world regularly in regular chess, and he is good enough to compete with the likes of Hikaru in speed chess. He even won that SCC in 2017. He is approaching the greatness of Kasparov, and will surpass him in the eyes of many if he defends successfully again. It will be a challenge as the younger talent has the benefit of better instruction via the internet, and he is getting old, but he is still consistently playing at the highest level, and none in the recent challengers' tournament deserved the opportunity to challenge him more than Ian N.

    Who are you? I know weird question, but you are always really fast keeping up with whatever is going on, analysing insanely quickly what's the purpose behind the moves and the goals while people do 3 moves in a second. The only time I saw you struggle was with Magnus vs Andrew Tang in a titled, where no one knew that it was Andrew - and considering how insanely fast and high level they played, that's understandable. But it seems like you can easily keep up with people making quick decisions with a rating of 2800+. Either way, really nice commentary, I enjoy it a lot. Very impressive.

They played the first 20 games yesterday, the next 20 games tomorrow, and the final 20 games on Tues. But why only Magnus is allowed to do that - that is another question which needs an answer.

    How is it that Magnus creates an account and is able to play in a tournament outrightly with no sufficient games?

      Because the website moderators can grant access to every function most likely, after confirming that he is who he claims to be ofc

      The yellow GM/IM/FM/NM titles are granted by mods once you verify who you are, so they would just allow access

      Has it occurred to you Carlsen is world champion and probably has a direct line to the Lichess mods and creators? A simple call would be enough verification to allow him access to the tournament. Having the world champion is great marketing for a non profit chess website.
