Jerry you're a great commentator. Narrating the ideas and frequently predicting the players plans. It makes it easy for us lower rated players to enjoy these high level games. Thank you!
1:04:48, game against Jospem. Move 48, did white miss a mate in 3 with Rg7 or are my chess skills really slipping? 48. Rg7+ Kh8 49. Rh7+ Kg8 50. Rag7# Edit: Saw another comment said the same thing.
Yes he did and on stream, when it was suggested to him he missed it, he still could not see it asking 'where', then explaining that his thought process was too focused on just winning/playing good move, claiming that missing such mate when you have a very good position is not a big miss, he was not mad at all, goat'd
Jerry, you single-handedly got me into chess. The scholars mate video turned me onto your content, and I’ve never looked back. Thank you for all that you do, easily the best chess content around.
Hi Jerry! Thanks for the video! Please do more videos and streams like this one. I miss the days you would followed and commentated on Carlsen's title arenas on lichess. Cheers!
You are the best Jerry!!! The combo Carlsen-ChessNetwork is the most enjoyable even here. I do think the Lichess Title Arenas were more exciting in mi opinion. Good to have you back!
I loved this video, the combination of Magnus playing and your explanations makes chess seem very simple! Sadly it only takes playing a couple of games to shatter that illusion. Also nice to see that not every game ends in a rook and pawn ending after your last tournament aha!
Glad I'm not the only one. Seemed like a pretty standard mating pattern. I had to plug it into an engine just to prove to myself I wasn't missing something that made Magnus avoid it.
@@olivierpourret7469 not so incredible, lots of things to keep in mind and he made that move in 5 seconds. Biggest concern, pawn on a2, if that's stopped he wins so most of his attention was devoted to it, safety first approach in time scrumble, no time to search for unexpectedly gifted mate in 3. Also he's opponent in big time scrumble almost premoved allowing this, so this is also very important time factor here, if his opponent spent 5 seconds as well before that, Magnus would prob see this.
@@Av-uv6xu 01:04:45 Jospem had only 1.7 seconds on the clock as he played Rf8??, so yes the blunder is understandable and he did not give Magnus much time to think on his opponetn's time. But then Magnus had 9 seconds to respond. At this level, with increment, I don't think these guys feel any time pressure. And forced moves are the first thing any player looks at. Maybe we are missing something, Magnus can have been distracted. Or he had planned to play Bh5 anyway, checked that the move was OK, an played it quickly, hoping to flag. Or he just "trusted" his opponent not to have allowed an easy mate, and looked for something else. There must be an explanation of this nature. More incredible for me is that Jerry calmly analyses Bf7+... also overviewing the mate ! Jerry was not under time pressure :-)
There's a nasty skewer in the position. If 1. ...Rxh7 2. Ra8+ Kxe7 (2. ...Kf7 or 2. ...Kd7 3. e8=Q+) 3. Ra7+ and the black rook falls. 1. ...Kxe7 has the same problem but in reverse; 2. Ra8 (threatening 3. h8=Q) 2. ...Rxh7 3. Ra7+ and once again the black rook is lost. If black avoids taking either pawn then he must either play 1. ...Rg4+ after which 2. Kh3 and the h-pawn is ready to promote with check, or 1. ...Kf7/Kd7 which is met with 2. Ra8 and one white's pawns will promote.
He’s stated in previous videos that he doesn’t like to rely on a computer for his initial analysis. If he sees an exceptional game he will produce an in-depth engine analysis video of it later.

I was just about to comment that. I saw it in real time too.
Good catch
Oh snap yeah he did, missed the easy win in favor of the slightly more difficult but still easy win tho

Heck yeah, glad to see you back following Mag on various online tournaments, those were always my favorite of your videos.
These Magnus tournaments are the best thing on RUclips. Thank you, Jerry!
You're the man Jerry. These videos are great to keep me interested at work and somehow also great to fall to sleep to. Amazin'.
Jerry commentating on Magnus. *Grabs popcorn bowl* let's do this! 🔥
I think Magnus missed mate in 2 at 1:04:47
he did lol
@@acoustics9528 So did Jerry.
Wrong
@@Av-uv6xu So it's mate in 3, big deal...
First time while watching GM blitz games that I saw a mate that both Carlsen and the commentator missed at 1:04:46
Amazing commentary!
It's incredible how rich these games are and how sharp you are, finding all those moves just before they appear on the board.
Ok , that was an amazing idea there Jerry !
Crazy games by Carlsen with a great commentating
I loved your little description of the name pouya. little things like that are why you are the best.

Thanks Stan, mmkay.
Very nice games and commentary
the big vlad was so impressive in this event
33:05 why take with horse and not with pawn which would be attacking the black horse and force it out of the defensive position?
I'm assuming that white wanted to avoid a queen trade.
Thanks for commenting the games!
You asked to leave a comment: please keep tracking MC, please keep making videos like this, thanks!
1:04:10 Got a good chuckle out of the enthusiasm for the 2nd rook move. Classic!
Oof no darkmode on the whole right side but very entertaining
