Noel, you not only flew the world's shortest flight, but you also set a world record for how many times a person can say Westray in two minutes or less. 😂
Top Comment LOL!
He’s been to Westray??
Take a drink every time he says it. 🤪
He travels, the whole point is saying where He is or going! I appreciate that.
😂😂
I laughed so hard at the sign for Twatt, well played sir 😂
Lol
OMG I had to rewind that, I thought I was seeing things!
New drinking game - take a drink every time Noel says the word 'Westray' - you'll be hammered by the 10 minute mark!!
I was just thinking the same thing ... ! (Hic!)
I passed out at 8:31. Lol
I’m drunk and he’s not even took off yet 🥴🥴
What is the 'Westray' count in this video? Has anyone counted?
I'd be in the hospital before takeoff... alcohol poisoning
This possibly the best opening 30 secs to a travel video that I've ever seen. Well played, sir!
Wow, thanks!
well, hes not Twatt.
Lol amazing how you can make a 35 minutes video of a 80 second flight - long time watcher - keep up the amazing work good sir
Maybe he learnt from Sam Choi
I saw the title and got so sad, thinking the video was only gonna be like 10 minutes or something. Love the longer videos from Noel.
Thanks a ton!
@@noelphilips my wife and I love your channel / video thanks for keeping us entertained over the years
@FireCrew 57 not a waste for those who need to travel that way
Noel: can tell what type of plane it is by looking at it
Also Noel: *calls the sky “blue stuff”*
The mark of a true pilot!
Two world records. A 35 minute video for an 80sec flight.
Well done Noel 👏
Pilot: "we've just taken off, we're having engine troub...never mind, we just landed".
In Germany there is a flight from the North Sea coast to the East Frisian island of Wangerooge. This is the shortest scheduled German flight and takes about 5 minutes. It is also operated by the Islander and I had the pleasure of experiencing it last year. Awesome!
Being Scottish I have a wee soft spot for our national airline Loganair. I work next to them near Glasgow Airport and they are an absolutely super bunch of people. I never get tired of seeing Loganair in action. Another great video.
Love your videos too Scott
Thank you! Yes they are wonderful people. I speak to a few of them via email and everyone seems to know me when I get on one of their planes, it's like they've taken me in as part of their family! Great bunch of people.
As a retired Firefighter I respect that Guy no end, I'd love to know if they have to go through the full training? If so, that's commitment to keeping ua all safe. Respect where its due.
Absolutely, and they have to leave their day jobs twice a day for the flights too.
Yes, it's a real issue for a couple of islands - Eday in particular - getting people who live on the island and can find time for the full training. The guy you see on Papa Westray is a cow farmer, by the way. What they don't do is provide a full ATC service, though they do talk by radio to the pilot to confirm the runway is clear. (The things you learn on a Papay pub night!)
@Spoonmeat I actually know someone who used to to the same role at a different small airport and yes they do. They are essentially classified as 'Retained Firefighters' which no doubt you'll understand as a title. They have to undergo the full training that any 'Airport Firefighter' has to undergo and the standard aircraft the location handles isn't the limit of their training as they have to be competent to deal with any type of aircraft that may user the airport in an emergency situation. For up there this would include jet aircraft as whilst it would be an absolute last resort the airfields are still within the operating area of QRF fighters. Obviously no 777 is ever gonna use it in an emergency due to length and surface but fighters could manage it at a push due to their advanced breaking ability and landing gear strength being designed for potential 'off field' landings.
Was that Bobby the fireman on Papay.
I used to live in the croft next door to him.
@@noelphilips you made The Sun today, page 7. Congratulations.
0:25 might be the greatest road sign 😂
I noted the 35 minute run time for an 80 second flight and was like 😳😳😳 I can’t wait to watch this haha. Got my coffee and everything. Cheers!
Hope you enjoyed it!
A Noel Philips video just isn't a Noel Philips video without a Loo Review! Another awesome video Noel!
Imagine if you have a 2 hours delay for this flight. It’s probably faster to just walk and swim there
😂
Imagine you took this 2 minutes flight and they misplaced your luggage!
@@VJDilip imagine if there was a time difference between those two airports
That sign was great!
OMG, almost did a spit-take of my coffee at :28. It wasn't the sign, it was the look on your face ... words completely unnecessary..... Great vid Noel! Enjoyed your tour of Westray ... reminds me of your tour of Alliance, Nebraska (USA), but under much better weather conditions in Scotland!
😂😂🥴🥴
I’m glad I’m not the only one that deep down is still a giggling 10 year old.
@@ImpatientBadger1 I think we ALL have an 'inner 10 year old boy that we occasionally let out .... :)
@@TheWeeble1 ⁰
I smiled too
Lmfao that sign at 00:25 pointing at him is hillarious.
Great video Noel as always......
Papa Westray and Westray are names I'll alway remember now.... 🤣🤣
That made me chuckle.
That aircraft looked about the same size as a Cozy Coupe.
The wheels look as if they came out of a bag of liquorice allsorts.
Great video and a stunning part of the country. So remote and peaceful
Did the landing gear stop rotating before it landed?
Thanks for this video! At 3:15 - 3:22 you can see how cargo effects the planes balance while the crew unloads it. Nice catch!
Great video, i love the landscape and architecture of Scotland and the ariel views from the plane are stunning! Well done Noel! :) I also giggled a bit when you actually did a loo review, much nicer than most loos in the states. :D
I actually love your full flight videos! But this was delightful too.
Thank you!
0:27 OMG this was hilarious. The way he walked up to that sign
Wonderful Noel, you clearly loved every moment of this experience. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the memories Noel! I used to fly an Islander (20 years ago) on what I would think is the shortest scheduled flight in America. Port Graham to Nanwalek at 3.2 miles between the airports. Many, many fond memories of flying good ole “22T” around south central Alaska.
Thanks for sharing!
Just caught up twith this video Noel. It was wonderfull to watch especially as I am afflicted with agorophobia and depression so don't get to leave my room very often, and then only for medical appointments. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share this experience, even if it caused me to shed a few evious tears.
4:17 Love how the door hits the landing gear. Details like this make your videos priceless!!!
Glad you like them!
Obvious that you had a ball doing this one Noel. For everybody's info a BN Islander only needs 621 feet to take off....how amazing is that.... and I nearly fell off my chair when at 12:26 at the instant the plane came to a stop, it sounds like the handbrake got pulled on 😆😆😆
It would be hilarious if you edited and upload the short flight clip here all by itself and added it to your full-flights playlist.
Amazing lord Noel Phillips
The only reason why I subscribed and started watching your videos and vlogs is Bcoz of your video on the world's shortest flight between westray and papa westray that you shot 4 years back... You started of from London... Then kirkwall... Then papa westray and westray and back....I still remember that video and do watch it sometimes.
Thank you Noel for reminiscing about those memories... That upload was on Jan 12, 2018... I'm one of your early subscribers my friend... Godspeed Noel
Great job as always, Noel!
Awesome video, as always! Really enjoyed it, so much, that I had to try it out on an Islander in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Took me 1 minute 35 seconds, starting and stopping the watch at the same points as you did. 1:14 is really fast, might been favourable winds!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing that.
That's brillinat Noel. Flight time not much longer than your average Heavy's take off run. On my bucket list for sure.
On your bucket list?! He said the flight was more expensive per mile than Emirates. It has no meal service; no in-flight entertainment and no restrooms on the plane.
Why would you want to put yourself through that?! 😉
Wow! Great trip to find my next destination.... Thanks Noel Philips. Your trip coverage always very interesting and enjoyable!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fascinating view of the island.
Noel, your video's are a joy to watch! I read about this shortest flight in the world years ago! I can't believe they are still using that Islander that I read about in the 80's!
awesome video. Such a great insight into that part of the world. So peaceful and calm. Love the Britten Norman Islander. thank you so much for posting. BTW, you mention the city of Papa Westray 39 times and Westray 44 times!
Haha thank you! Still some way to beat 'Sveg' in the Sveg video 😅
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I think Noel has a bet with his wife to see how many times he says Westray... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Loved it , 2 full-flight reviews in one video !! I hope one day we'll see this Islander aircraft in the full stunning Loganair, Scotland's Airline Tartan livery, with bright red engine cowlings and the Tartan-clad tail. That would be absolutely stunning !!
I really enjoy your videos and I love unique flights like this! Your videos are awesome and always a pleasure to watch and when I found your channel a few months ago by accident- I spent HOURS watching your videos! I have loved planes since I can remember and still do well into my 40s- I look forward to seeing your new videos every week!
Noel..the best aviation nerd we’ve ever loved! From all the other aviation nerds..excellent channel Noel 💕
I love your videos! Always look forward to your next trip!
Happy to hear that!
Amazing video Noel. I love seeing these types of flights. Adding this to my bucket list. Safe travels and much love from the United States!😊
Why would this be on your bucket list? A shirt flight to nowhere lol
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really enjoyed that noel, many thx.
We all want to know - did you go to the pub in Papa Westray?
Sometimes it would be nice if you engaged with the locals more and caught them on film.
I was dying to see what the pub and the inside of the church looked like etc
What beautiful scenery! An 80 second flight makes for good conversation.
I have mentioned in comments before about you constantly repeating yourself in your vlogs. Congratulations you hit the jackpot on this one! 👏
Excellent video Noel. Another classic!
Amazing video! Very cool. Thanks for taking us along.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thankyou Noel. A very nice introduction to the shortest flight in the world, with your commentary, and personal thoughts. That village on the
smaller island has a couple of football pitches that could be occupied at the same time I noticed. So the local lads can keep occupied. I dare
say there'd be a golf club there too, with Scotland being the home of golf. I was hoping you'd keep your camera rolling as you enjoyed your
dinner at the hotel. You chose not too, so there could be a message in that. But so good to see how lovely the Orkneys are from the air too!
What an amazing video. No one else would have done this. Kudos to you.
When I was a student pilot, and past solo flying, nearly all my spare weekends were devoted to practicing over the training area or doing ‘touch & go’ circuits. Here, you could do that sort thing involving and using the triangle route you described, or back and forth over the short stretch. Much more fun than going round the same circuit.
Noel I really enjoyed this video showing the small planes flying between the small northern islands of SCOTLAND!!!!!!! your Loo review was epic lol,
I've done this flight and both the pilots shown in this video each did the out and back. Excellent pilots.
Quite like Noel’s videos. Keep ‘em coming. Very relaxing to watch.
More to come!
Loved this Noel. Great video and really interesting. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow Scotland is so beautiful! this video made me add it to the list of places I want to travel to!
You should!
Great vlog as always! This reminds me so much of how it is in Northern Norway. I need to do this. You also have the other route in Scotland were you land on beach with the DHT. I need to do that one too! Be safe!
There is something I really like about the scottish islands. We've been on Islay in 2019 but I guess for a possible next trip the north could be a nice option as well.
Hi Noel, absolutely brilliant! Proper flying, those wee Islanders are great aircraft. I'm retiring in a few weeks so the Orkney Islands and flying on an Islander are on the to do list and maybe stay awhile. Nice on Noel.
Superb little aircraft I remember they were using them back in the 70s as well as the trislander
Super video! Forget about those business class comparisons between this airline and that (Yawn yawn yawn :-) - how many of us are ever going to use them). These quirky trips are what defines you and are the most interesting. As well as being shorter that the length of Edinburgh's runway, this short flight is a lot shorter than a circuit of even the smallest airfield! Two questions: 1. how do you find these quirky flights and 2. How many times did you bang your head in that small Islander cabin??
I don't know about Noel, but (as a resident of Orkney) there's definitely a row where I can feel the roof resting against my head, and the leg room is painfully short (and I think I'm an inch shorter than Noel).
These are great videos I love them. I am so lucky to have come across you. I am so glad you make money for your work well deserved.
Thank you so much!
This video was one of the most fun, short flights, walking the area, more short flights. Great.
Superb! Always wondered what these flights would be like and now I know. Amazing! Not often one gets to see out of the pilot's windscreen on a commercial flight either! I noticed, by the way, that you edited out the safety demonstration and the trolley service. Quite right too!
Great work Noel!
Thanks a lot!
You should do a video on the ferry connecting these Islands......It would be incredibly interesting to see the ferry experience
I love these kinds of videos..
The sound is glorious!
This was a brilliant wee video.
Two full flight videos plus a Loo Review! Damn Noel you’re gonna spoil us.
My pleasure 🤣
Fantastic documentary Noel well done 👍🇦🇺🇨🇦
Many thanks!
Hello Noel, Qantas does domestic scenic flights down to Antarctica every December and January, the only on the 31st of December is very special as you spend new years eve midnight in Antarctica. Prices start from $900 up to $10000 for first class. A once in a lifetime experience if you manage to get on it.
That was fantastic little flight
fantastic as usual!
FWIW, the waving thing also works in Montana, northern Idaho, and probably a bunch of other rural areas.
Nice flight and great tour
Thanks a lot!
A must on all plane vloggers list.
Was dreadfully concerned this ep would have no loo review, glad I was wrong!
This is a cool video and one of my favorites of yours, quirky and fun. Keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
Lol, Noel you are too funny! Great "full flight video." You really make me laugh!
Glad you enjoyed it
A good experience Noel.
Would of loved to see the tea time/local pub vibe there. Otherwise as always, super cool video Noel! Love your channel
This has been my favorite video to date. Love it 😊
Wow, thank you!
Thanks I enjoy all your video’s.
Glad you like them!
Absolutely loved the way you looked at that sign 🤣
😁
Great video, detailed and interesting
Thanks for watching.
Haha, that moment with the sign and your facial expression cracked me up,
😁
Keep up the good work
Noel love the videos
Thanks! Will do!
beautiful place! peaceful!
Yes it was!
That's pretty good value. Great video Noel thanks
Thanks for watching!
loved that sign
Visit Nassau, The Bahamas. British airways and Virgin Atlantic both fly there direct from London if you don’t want to stopover into the USA or Canada
I suspect I just missed you. On Monday we flew Kirkwall- North Ronaldsay - Papa Westray- Kirkwall. I’d hoped to get the shortest flight but booked the wrong route. Was still really awesome.
@Noel Philips
The scenery over those islands is stunning and so beautiful!
It certainly is.
@@noelphilips I'm honored by your reply, and love your channel, one of the best on YT!
Very cool little village.
0:24 That sign tho
You're a hoot! Loved this video!
A hotel with a proper key! Glad theres still some of them around
