I got to fly on a Tri Islander with PBA airlines from Boston to BlueBell,Pa where there is a large Sperry Computer plant. Was great to get on that flight. At the time their fleet included a passenger carrying DC-3, but I didn't get to fly them enough to figure that one out. In the early 80s.

I live in Jersey and fond memories of the flights inter island on the Joey via Air Aurigny … sadly the costs charged to be a passenger on the flights led to the downfall as people just couldn’t justify .. the Channel Islands being the most expensive piece of water to fly or sail over .. I do hope that this new airline is able to keep it affordable

Noel, thanks for that visit to Memory Lane. Years ago in suburban New Jersey there was a small commuter airline called the Red Bank Air Taxi which flew back and forth to JFK with Islanders and Twin Otters. I always tried to find an excuse to use it when flying in and out of the New York area. To me the best feature of being on the Islander was taxiing around JFK and looking at the big boys "up close and personal" as they say. Simply put, the Islander and Twin Otter were just such fun. Happy travels.

Noel you are so right, flights on the Islander are very memorable indeed. My one and only flight on one was way back in 1987 from Panama City's tiny (as it was then) domestic airport (PAC) to Puerto Obaldia (PUE) on the edge of the Darien Gap on an Aerolineas Nacionales BN2 while I was on my way to South America by land. I camped out at PAC for two days knowing that flights went on an ad hoc basis when enough people were at the airport at the same time. I eventually rented the aircraft and pilot for $36 a head with a group of 4 or 5 Colombians who were conveying cardboard boxes of unknown contents. The hour or so hop included flying low over the steaming jungle, Panama's Tocumen airport, and the Panama Canal before arrival on Panama's Caribbean coast at an air strip that went straight up a mountain side - like Lukla no chance of a TOGA. More than 35 years later it is still one of the greatest hour's I have spent in the air.

The Isles of Scilly, they operate between Lands End + St Mary's the Islander (a former Skybus Islander) was used in a James Bond Film, a number of years ago. Plus they also have the UK's only passenger helicopter service, Twin Otters, and The Scillonian is also fun (the ferry between Penzance and Scilly)

I use the Islander regularly during the year for flights from Norddeich/Germany to the North Sea island of Juist and it's always a wonderful little ride with these tiny work horses and yes, they aren't luxurious or fancy, but they do great in what they were made for and that is what counts.
