Oh man, "It's 2020 and a whole new year of flying starts now" if only we knew
lol
@Edwyn Deer left in direct sunshine out in the Sahara
Lol I was looking for this comment haha, I knew after hearing that line someone had to have commented this
COVID……
What a great video Noel. Thank you for portraying our small company in such a nice way. It was a pleasure having you on the flightdeck, looking forward to your next video, and hope to see you on one of our flights in the near future.
Hi Christan, thank you so much for the fantastic ride on the flightdeck and your explanations! Was easily my best flight to date and it will be a tall order to match that experience in 2020! Thanks again!
@@noelphilips Prediction: the rest of 2020 didn't live up to this flight...
One hell of a seat upgrade!!!!!
True lol
I would choose cockpit jump seat over first lol
You would think it is an upgrade but I disagree. As an Airline Flight Dispatcher I have flown in the jumpseat many times. No legroom and no food or drink service. The seat is unpadded and the back is straight up with absolutely no recline. And if you are on a long trip and one of the pilots has to leave to go to the restroom then you have to unbuckle, stand semi-standing up as you stow away the seat, and get out of the way so that pilot can exit the cockpit, and then you do it again in reverse when they come back. It is fun the first couple of times you do it but after that, please give me a seat in back if you can. It got to where I only flew jumpseat if the flight was full and that was the only way I was getting on the airplane or I had to in order to fulfill my annual jumpseat requirements for my job.
I once flew from Athens Greece to Thessaloniki in a Boeing 737-700 as the sole passenger but I didn't get to go to the jump seat lol. I have to say the service was excellent though! Almost like they had nothing else to do!
I'm so proud of being part of SUN-AIR of Scandinavia A/S for nearly 13 years. Great documentary, Noel! Thank you for creating this. Greetings from Denmark.
I‘m a Flight Paramedic for the German „ADAC“ and this is our standard workhorse plane.
We provide patient repatriation all over Europe with our 2 DO‘s (and other planes) and I absolutely love this beauty 👍🏻 Thank you for the awesome video, I hope they keep flying a long time
I’m a Ramp Agent at MAN and was working on this flight, I’m stood with the wands in your unedited push back video 👍🏻 I have a picture of your push back if you’d like it?
Fantastic, thank you that would be great
Wow that was one steep approach into London city, you can appreciate it so much better from the cockpit...congrats Noel, as one of the best air-geek YTuber's you deserved that jump seat ride.:)
You got to be in the cockpit of an aircraft, that is absolutely amazing and I bet you were just buzzing the whole ride over to London City 😂😂
I was indeed. And lovely to be accompanied by such lovely crew too.
As a Dane, I just love to hear the thick danish accent 😂
It´s sooooo cringy being Danish and listening to this..
As a fellow Dane I second that. Its like nails on a chalkboard...
Agree, bill/und
If I ever see a flight that says "operated by... (some airline I've barely heard of)", I usually think that they are some one-plane shoddy operation where things like wings and landing gear are considered nice to have, but ultimately optional.
So it's great to see that Sun Air are the complete opposite. They seem like a really competent operation, with nice people and a flexible approach to the industry that lets them fit neatly between the huge operators. I hope they go far! (pun partially intended...)
One of the coolest videos you've done, Noel. Amazing seeing the runway lit up like that on approach, right in front of you! Great vid.
WOW... a ride home on the flight deck. What a wonderful gesture by Sun Air. I've always loved the DO-328 here in the US when we had it available on regional service. Great video. The only thing missing was a ride in the DO-328 full motion simulator where you would have the pleasure of actually "flying" the jet on your route back to London City. (I would think that they would have one of those somewhere at their headquarters location.) Outstanding video. God's richest blessings to you and your wife. Pastor Dean (Rev. Dr. J. Dean McNamara), Christian Life Church, Kissimmee FL USA.
Excellent video! Love the approach into LCY at night. Never flown on the DO328, looks a cracking plane! As for getting the opportunity to fly in the jump seat...absolutely amazing!!!
Riding on the flight deck is a bucket list item for me.
Kyle Warner omg sMe I would love to sit in the cockpit
Just become a pilot, then you can check off your bucket list item everyday
@@jayit6851 That's my long term goal. I specifically want my rotorcraft endorsement.
I love the seat change on the way back to London! 💺✈️🛫🛬❤️👍😉🤔🧐😎😀
Wow, London City has one hell of a runway. That’s crazy.
@@lindenbeck What's with the bad attitude? Most of us are here for the aeroplanes, and that approach into London City is crazy steep!!
Taking off going west is a bit of a rollercoaster ride as there are tall buildings in the way.
@@lindenbeck TWAT
I thought it was nice too.
Wow someone on here is pretty rude. Loved that approach, done it on a flight sim , it’s pretty hard. They are very experience pilots. Great to see a real life approach at night looked amazing
Strange hearing a combination of the Airbus autopilot disconnect sound and the Boeing radio altimeter voice.
Was just thinking that, combination of airbus autopilot disconnect and Boeing GPWS callouts
@@evanomairtin1279 you have just basically repeated what cal has put. WHY?
That callout voice is actually produced by the Honeywell EGPWS which can be fitted to any aircraft. It isn't made by Boeing.
@@martf8014 and why would you have to point this out cal was fine with it your just being annoying
@@konur3154 what and he needed your permission did he?
I love the dansk accent. “Tørbo pråp”
One of your best ones yet Noel, Really enjoyed the behind the scenes look at Sun Air as an old aircraft techie, The Dornier 328 is a beautiful bird
Thats a kids dream to be able to sit in the cockpit.
And older kids too ;)
Noel Philips I’ve been in one to once the plane landed . It was an rayanair Boeing 737-800
Pre-911 it was pretty easy to get an invite to sit in the jump-seat for takeoff/landing/both. Happy days!
It's unfortunate that the religion of pieces decided to ruin it for everyone
Girlsloveforcars for sure mine
Nice seat upgrade, I was lucky enough to get a flight deck seat on a 747 into Singapore at night amazing views and something not to be forgotten.
Very interesting video, especially the tour through the hangar and the flight deck part. Great kick-off video for 2020.
Thanks Bryan!
What a great experience. Thanks for sharing.
So nice they had you peek backstage! A flight vlog is one thing but to see how the sausage is made is certainly on a different level.
Sun air very cool bunch. You can tell they enjoyed showing showing you how they operate. Glad everyone had a great day and it showed.
Access to the cockpit was a real treat
This was so fun to watch! I can't imagine getting to see all this so thank you for showing! What an amazing opportunity!
Even if this is an older video, i had to throw in a comment anyway.
Back in 2017-18, while in 8th grade, i had the chance to spend my "work-experience week" with this company due having personal contacts within it.
This video gives me a huge trip back memory-lane, since i've been toured in the exact same private planes, walked the same hangars, and even got to work as an airplane-mechanic and fly jumpseat, on a flight from BLL to Manchester.
Magnificant airline i must say, and absolutely great stuff for a 14-year old av-geek to experience!!
Honestly I think your channel is the best on RUclips
Thank you for a wonderful review ! The Dornier Jet is certainly ideal for the flights you took, and as you say, the landing at LCY was the icing on the cake ! Well done !
Amazing. I can remember when I was a young lad. I used to go into cockpit all the time when flying. My dad always asked. Back then it was never an issue. Was so ace. Brings back so many memories 👌
Me too. Every holiday. My kids don't believe me. Unthinkable now, sadly :(
My first ever flight I got into the flight deck of a BA 767 in 1992. Then a BA 737-200 in 1997 and an Air Canada 767-200 in 2000, halfway across the Atlantic. That time I spent a good 30 minutes up there enroute LHR-YYZ, was incredible.
@@noelphilips that's a good thing
@@noelphilips good luck for 2020
You used to be able to in mid flight. But some times after landing now. 👍
Back in 2016 I was on vacation in Rhodes and on the full 4 hour flight down there from Aalborg I was in the cockpit jumpseat talking with the captain on the 737. Best flight of my life
Superb video Noel
Already a subscriber but want to subscribe again and again just to get you to the next big milestone! A thumbs up doesn't seem enough for the great journeys to share with us. Thanks Noel
Thanks so much Dan!
I live in Denver Colorado and have maintained a 328J. Corporate interior just like the one you toured.
That’s really cool you got to sit on the flight deck. Seeing the view from there is pretty amazing. I like sitting by the windows. ✈️
Noel, best one yet. I finally got fly jump seat in Feb 2020 and it was a dream come true. Now to find a way to do it again!
Wow !! what a treat for you and your viewers !
Awesome video. Thanks for taking us with you!
So very lucky to get the jump seat, that is quite an upgrade! The whole day with sun air must’ve been very interesting. Great video as always.
Fantastic video. What a great ride home! I had to do the same on a couple of occasions and you just never forget it!
Woah what an amazing experience! You deserved this
Thanks Olivia! It was epic!
I really like Billund airport. A very nice place to have a drink and watch the world go by outside.
I also like the window in the cockpit door on those 328 jets.
Upgrades you want- Being offered a seat in the flight deck for an amazing night flight and a stunning landing...
Upgrades you don't want- Being offered a seat in the flight deck 15 minutes before landing followed by a question on whether you know how to land the plane...... 😂
I'd like both ;)
I was just recently in Telluride, Colorado, where the airport has only occasionally had commercial flights until recently when a partner of United Airlines started flying Dornier 328JETs there.
Nice score with the jump seat flight!
I have never flown on the jet but the turboprop many times.
This aircraft is so underrated, so smooth and quiet compared to its competitors.
I would trade a dhc-8 and ATR any day for this aircraft.
Great video! Love to see more 328’s
Funny to see you at my "local" airport, do BLL-LCY many times a year 😊
What a view from the front, looking in on Canary Wharf.
Reminded me of the time we went to wrong airport when I was a kid - BA were amazing, got us on to a flight at no charge to Geneva, even though they had one too few seats - captain let my mum sit in the flight deck jump seat as she was ex-cabin crew! When he realised she had her family on board (dad, me and brother and sister, he asked if I’d like to come up. My brother was 6 months old and sister wouldn’t have cared less! Only thought I was going to have a look - was stunned when he asked if I’d like to stay for rest of cruise, descent and landing so mum could be with dad- was awesome!
Loved this video Noel, brilliant getting up front on the flightdeck!!!!
Another fanastic video .
Watching ur stuff is the next best thing to being there .Ur trips bring back memories of my younger travelling days when I did a few trips around the world plus lots of trips to Brazil and Asia
Cheers
Thank you glad you like them!
@@noelphilips thanku .I spend hours watching ur stuff . In fact im just watching ur korea to doha on the double bed flight .
I have about 3000hrs in the Dojet, including the one that took you on your outbound leg. Miss flying that girl. She's a hell of a plane.
Omg...that was so cool! Still not a huge fan of take-offs and landing at London City though. First time I went to the Isle of Man the quick ascent on a prop plane shared the hell out of me!
Amazing content! The quality of your videos has increased a lot. Thank you for your effort and for sharing!
Thank you so much great video as always you don't often get to view a landing from the cockpit of an aircraft you were very lucky and I also found the maintenance sheds for the aircraft's very interesting. Really enjoyed the video.
crazy, I never realized how central this aircrat is. You are literally flying into the city. Has to be one of the best approaches!
Noel, I’ve been a big fan of you for a long time. Keep up the good work and g
hope this year brings you more joyous travels. Cheers mate!
Thanks Jay! Same to you hope you have an amazing 2020👍
@@noelphilips recently I started becoming a RUclips aviation vlogger. I started making RUclips flight reports last month and so far I've made 4 of them. You are welcome to view them, like, comment, and subscribe if you wish. thanks again, my friend.
One of the reasons I love the Dornier 328 is because of the unusual dark blue cockpit color it has. It really stands out compared to the grays and browns of most other cockpits.
Lucky bastard. That approach into London was spectacular and I bet being in the cockpit was something else.
Honestly my most incredible flight yet. 12 days into 2020 and it’s going to be hard to beat that 👍
Very cool they gave you a behind the scenes access pass. If you can, do more of these. Good stuff!
Good old Dornier! Used to see alot of them operated by Loganair at Norwich. I don't see them anymore because Loganair retired them. I do see the BA D328JET at Cambridge sometimes!
Wow! Lucky you. So exciting coming into London City.
Amaizng! One of my favourite aircrafts is the Do328. Fantastic video, I really enjoyed it.
Fantastic video, really enjoyed it
Your such an underrated youtuber, love the vids💙
Jacob Myddelton agreed! Quality consistent content.
Thanks Jacob!
Thank you!
your seat upgrade is one that i can only dream of
As always Noel - thoroughly entertaining ! well done.
Incredible trip! I’m jealous of your flight home! Awesome 😁🎉💕
Noel, you lucky dog! Loved the cockpit view!
What an amazing view you had, especially coming into London City. That's a unique airport among the smaller airports of the world. I recently flew into Burbank (BUR) for the first time and really liked how close the terminal is to the runway. Literally landed and then turned right into its gate, no taxing at all. Disembarked from the rear of the 737, (the front door is also used) made for a quick emptying of the cabin. Great close up views of the planes on the tarmac. I suspect London City is similar to this as well. Keep up the unique look at airlines operations if you get a chance to be invited with another airline again.
One of the VIP configured 328s used to fly in regularly to CAL and I got a sneak peek at the interior amazing aircraft
What a fun video! Great experience seeing the whole flight from start to finish.
Best video yet Noal
I’ve never seen an aircraft like that before, very nice.
Back in 1991 I went down to Dornier in Friedichshafen as a sub-contractor to build the prototype Do328, initially it was built as a twin-turboprop before being reconfigured as a turbofan aircraft!
Me too, she's a little cutie.
Chris Wood Thanks
I fly to Billund regularly as I live near there, and have seen planes similar to these scattered about but never seen them actually in use! Cool to see what they're like, almost like a private plane of yours!
happy to see you suceeding Noel, a real genuine guy
I’ve never actually been able to see the approach to London city before, I’ve heard about it when I’ve got flight crew who used to fly that route but great video and nice to see the sun air side of British airways too
My favorite flight of 2020, Cheers!
Great view from the cockpit ! Good stuff, Noel.
Noel another fantastic report to your usual high standard, i used to watch lots of different channels.
But now between.you and Paul from winginit, you two are the best in the field by a country mile:)
Thank you!
One of my favorite regional jets; got a chance to fly on a few owned by ACJet in the USA about 20 years ago
Wow! Just wow well done Noel 👍
Looks like it was a fun trip. A great video for the new year.
Great video Noel, even if very envious of your little upgrade!!
How cool of Sun-Air to show you round. Top marks for them, great post. all the best.
Very Nice I Definitely Enjoy your Videos Especially the Rail trips you take
Glad to hear it!
When BA's franchise partner offers subjectively better service than the mainline operation 😂
The was the best flight video I’ve seen. Thank you for all your great videos but this was greatest one yet
Thanks Michael!
What an awesome video! Hope you can do a few more like this in the future, going behind the scenes with these unique airlines.
Awesome video man
I love when you do these unusual and fascinating videos 😊
Only just found this little gem. I worked for Atlantic Coast Airlines as a pilot and flew this one too. It was a fun aircraft to fly and we gave it the pet name: TOGA To Ten as it was so overpowered!
Another brilliant video noel.Well done
Wow, what a wonderful journey back to the UK you had. Great video Noel, thank you for another enjoyable report. :-)
Absolutely LOVED IT✈️
Love how the guy at 0:06 walks right by two signs that say "no luggage on the escalator", while pulling a suitcase towards the escalator. 😂😂
As a retired Captain on Loganair Saab 340s, I used to love having people on the jump seats. They were always thrilled by the experience & we loved their responses.
When the Islamic attacks happened, we were all sad that a special treat for many people had ceased.
Maybe now, we can rethink things bearing in mind developments in security. It would be a real shame if this was to stop forever!
Amazing Video Noel! Best one yet I think! Great landing shot! 🙌
Nice aircraft, excellent video thank you
Another great video Noel. Wow you got to sit in the cockpit for the flight back, I did that a few times as a kid and would love to do it again but sadly don't think it's allowed anymore
