I hope Noel's okay - if it was just about the clothes then it would suggest maybe he was burnt out or such and was happy to find a reason to head home. As a family man travelling solo, I can understand this.
He’s doing this RUclips airline vloging for the money people, you understand this? Of course he can’t bring his family all the time, basically this is his job
I know a guy who lived on a airport for more than a year!! He even helped with the construction of a new terminal while waiting on his flight and suitcases. If I remember his name was Voktir Navorski from Krakozhia
Despite all the increased bickering and just general annoyance with it all (sorry Noel that's what it looks like), how is this all international traveling going to affect the green card status? Every day spent outside of the US is an extra day that has to be spent in the US.

Noel, the "hometown airline" thing is a colloquial term where a legacy airline has a major hub where no other airline has a hub. So, Houston for United, Dallas for American (their headquarters) and Atlanta for Delta (their headquarters).
It gets weird cuz there are others inherited that are still exclusive hubs that are still open EWR cuz of United buying continental which at the time was actually bigger than UAL Salt Lake for instance is a delta hub that was inherited in the 80s by delta buying WESTERN airlines they kept it Unlike say St. Louis which American abandoned (delta has more service) shortly after buying out TWA Stl in the day was bigger than O'Hara cuz of the McDonnell Douglas plant and being the home hub for TWA Then let's not get into Alaska air and sea tac which is a home hub for their Alaska service but they lease and codes share a LOT Also dfw is wierd cuz it used to be a hub for 2 airlines in the 80s American bought deltas hub and now its a mega hub beyond united and O'Hare or delta in Atlanta Oh my memories of that delta hub in dfw
Forgot American and Charlotte AND Raleigh which were the 2 main hubs of USAIR which they kept both despite being so close to each other (If your wondering that comes from usair getting its big national exposure from buying regional carrier Piedmont and the way they use it does help with transcontinental service and to better serve texas/south)
In the case of United they do have 2: ORD (Chicago O'Hare, United's HQ) and IAH (Houston intercontinental, Continental's* HQ). * the last merger with Continental (Conti being the buyer) is what made today's United as big, besides United uses Continental's "Globe" on the airplanes tail...
He didn’t even have to leave the airport. I saw someone describe that place as “a shopping mall with parking stalls for 737s”. After being there-that’s an extremely good description

I thought this was a pretty old tip by now, but maybe not. Always pack 2-3 changes of clothes into your carry-on. That way, if your checked bag gets lost, you have enough clothes to sustain yourself for the duration of your trip - use hotel dry cleaning as needed until you can buy more clothes or your bag turns up.
..... this is a really old tip by now: Always pack 2-3 changes of clothes into your carry-on .... But you and I know that because we travel only as-is-essential to our productive lives and are equipped in various ways - including intellectually - to see to that end.
Just flew with United from Amsterdam to San Jose Costa Rica via Houston and back via Newark and Heathrow and i have to say i was sceptical before flying with them but i was super impressed. Cabin crew, the United app which keeps you updated on flights, etc and the cabin crews are soo friendly. We would certainly recommend flying United to anyone. Polaris was a hit with us too in terms of their product.
United’s flight crews for international flights are almost always very nice. But I’ve had an awful lot of United domestic flights where the crews were some of the worst I’ve ever come across lol. In my experience, Delta has the best and most consistently nice flight crews for domestic flights.
I just recently came upon Noel's videos and I have to say the things that sucked me in to binge-watching them over Christmas and New Years were the quirky and unique topics combined with the down to earth attitude. The videos with SCAT airlines, the least-used airport in the US (Alliance, NE), the Greyhound bus trip, all of that. The "4 consecutive cheapest flights" video from Stansted to Nepal was amazing. It was great to see a seasoned traveler just grin and bear it with all of the various problems that get run into. As a bit of feedback - it feels weird that you just abandoned this trip and opted to fly home. Film of you clothes shopping in Singapore would have been hilarious. Or, at the very least, show people how experienced travelers deal with these hiccups. I mean you somehow survived some of the worst airlines and airports in the world, but a lost bag is the thing that caused you to cut your trip short? It just feels strange. If there was some other reason to cancel the trip - stuff in the checked bag that was irreplaceable without going back home, illness, or some kind of family emergency - just tell your audience that. I think some of the comments are a bit harsh, but not entirely unsurprising from the internet.
Why does he have to tell us about a private family emergency if there was one. Or there could be a medical reason he wants to keep private from the internet.
Crazy how United used to offer Singapore flights to LAX a few years ago. I was able to fly one way on both their LAX and SFO routes back in 2018. Fantastic video as always btw!
The cost per mile has been missing from the last number of trips which would lead me to believe Noel has succummbed to accepting free flights from the airlines. How else could you justify giving up a week in Japan over a lost bag? Or maybe there was never a Japan trip to being with? Either way, the old adventurous, av-geek Noel is well and truly gone...... along with a fair few subscribers after this I'd say!

Part of the attraction to watching these videos is the sense of authenticity you feel from them. For this one, there must be more to the story. To title the video "Most Luxurious Airline" is a stretch and a bit inauthentic. The food looked like it came from economy.
I've always felt that American airline companies in general lack a heart and soul. While many of the East Asian, Middle Eastern and European airlines make that special effort with the flight attendant uniformes, domestic cuisine and "airline as country ambassador", the Americans simply can't be bothered. That breakfast looked inedible, the layout of business looked gloomy and the flight attendants are usually elderly American women with shattered dreams and no customer service skills.
I’m afraid I’m in agreement with the comments here Noel. The airline would give you a budget to buy clothing. Also presumably you have travel insurance. I’ve also noticed you have stopped saying how much trips cost? I get it, you were upset, this video was presumably filmed around the time you were moving so the annoyance of loosing your bag along with the stress of moving countries just made you want to call it. I really doubt a shopping trip for a new suitcase and clothing would have set you back more than about £200. How much was the last minute ticket? Unless by some chance you got a points ticket that would be what £3000?

But your recent videos has shifted to business / first and luxury flying where most of us cannot afford. I really hope you look at your history of videos and go back to travelling to weird places and weird aircraft and relatively affordable prices. United Airlines? "Luxurious?" Sorry, Noel, that I cannot believe. In fact, I had to laugh when I saw your title. "Luxurious" and "American." When it comes to passenger airlines thrse two words haven't gone together in the same sentence since the late 1970s - even for business and first classes. Domestic U.S. airlines today are all just some degree of "suck," depending on the flight, the staff, the airport, and the day of the week. I'll just have to assumethat you haven't spent sufficient time flying U.S.airlines to let the full extent of their god-awfulness sink in.
I prefer ANA compared to United from the USA to Japan even in Economy Class. Food, service, cleanliness (toilets and cabin), and treated like a human being. Seats maybe a little small but, very comfortable. They a non-stop from NH174 IAH-NRT.
Flying half way across the world to avoid buying clothes seems an odd choice but, time aside, maybe cheaper given the number of points Noel must have. I would have to agree with another commenter that the recent videos have more of a negative feel; it's a balancing act between a travel vlog and an airline review channel. One has to involve some drama by its very nature.
That's a show only. All amenity kit is filled will bullsh***t, when I arrive home (I usually take them with me) my wife throws everything to the bin. The holder might be the only thing having some use later on.

I had the pleasure of flying United Polaris twice in the past year. I am a regular traveler who has avoided United for a decade after some unpleasant experiences. I must say, I was more than pleasantly surprised by my recent experiences. Polaris IS truly one of the better business class seats. As for the food, well presentation might be lacking but a roast chicken dish I had on one flight was, without exaggeration, the best dish I’ve ever had on an airline. The crews, some of whom were surprisingly young, were enthusiastic and very attentive. I will continue to fly United in the future.
You're the first non American who actually likes our airlines, Noel. That surprises me and makes me smile. I would warn you, though, to stay away from American Airlines. They are awful! I am physically handicapped, and the last time I flew American they threw me around like a piece of luggage. I was lucky I wasn't seriously injured. United, I'm afraid, hasn't done much better. Call me biased, but I'm completely loyal to Delta. They treat me like a princess. And Delta One is pretty amazing. Depending on which plane you're on, the seats even have a door that you can close for privacy. Delta's flight attendants have been very kind and attentive to me, and they sneak me extra goodies all the time. Delta can sometimes cost a bit more, but it is worth it! You should consider trying out the Delta One business class sometime.
United breaks wheel chairs and beats up passengers, American is a great airline actually people complain about them for no reason and Delta will always be the best in this country
Why don't business class seats specialize in being extra wide, especially on American carriers? Legroom and seat pitch is important, but extra wide seats for big butts would be the best luxury.
The airline gave him 'emergency clothes' which consisted of boxer shorts & a t-shirt. Some people have commented that they don't like that he wears shorts & a t-shirt, in business class. Don't think they would like it if he tried to board in just boxers & white t-shirt. lol
Being in the middle of moving his family into their home in TX, getting kids started in new schools & all the rest of things that come with moving your life (along with his wife's parents) to a new country, does have an affect on someone.
@noelphilips I have always really enjoyed your videos as has my wee mum however sadly I have not enjoyed this video so much. Ok we can all have an off day and on a positive there is always your next trip for us all to look forward too. What I have disliked most is some of the comments that you have posted back to people saying they are jealous as well as the tone of some other comments. What would they be jealous of? You can't always please everyone. Shame you missed the good old days of Continental, they truly were Houston's Hometown airline. I grew up with them flying on their DC10s between LGW and IAH then in the later years on flights between GLA via EWR to IAH on their 757s. BusinessFirst as they called it was great back in the day. Please take onboard everyone's feedback and remember you can't please everyone all of the time.
Easy buy new clothes, dont understand you fly all over the world but cant afford to buy some new clothes, other utubers go away for months with just a handful of clothes.
Never flew business class on long-haul flight but did fly Business for a flight from Chicago to Idaho once which was nice (it was a comfortable flight as it was one of the premium steats in the front in the 2x2 configuration, but no sleeper obviously since it was only a 4 hour flight, actually managed to get it through a bid system so it cost me about $100 more than my original economy ticket but it was nice since it was an early morning flight -- 6am). Probably will never fly business on a long-haulf flight unless someone else is paying or I can get a really good deal (or get lucky and get a free upgrade from Premium Economy etc). The reason that most American-based airlines do well in the category of these amenity kits is because you're actually paying for it, through higher fares. Other airlines might only include very basic stuff and you're paying for those, but from what I've found, business class is generally more on American-based flights (one within the US, or from/to the US) versus some of the European or even Asian flights which might be more affordable, but are not la luxurious. I do agree that I'd rather have a comfy seat / bed and a better experience than worry so much about the food. I mean in most cases, it's just one meal that you're going to eat so I'd rather kind of give up the meal for a better overall flight experience. I'm not that picky either when it comes to food and maybe that's why. If i want real authentic cuisine I'll just get it where I'm going/am at as the airline recreations sometimes can be a hit or miss.
They sell Big and Tall here in Japan mate, I could have certainly helped. To miss Japan is a shame, I would have enjoyed seeing what you would have thought of my adopted home country.
I agree that Polaris is a really great product. Most important to me is the seat and the crew. And my experience as someone who travels/traveled for work is they really are great.
Hard to believe that such seasoned traveller had to abandon a trip because of lost bag. In rare occasions when I check bag, I still have all my essentials in crayon and always prepared to go on with a trip if my bag is lost. Regarding SQ vs others, agree. I’ve done SQ in premium economy and found it maybe as good as Delta Premium but not as good as JAL economy. That said, food on SQ is better.

Seems Noel is trying get favour with his local carrier. I have flown United a few times now and found the planes old and uncomfortable and the staff the most miserable and ignorant of any carriers i have flown with.
Even though your day was starting off bad due to going home early, you did not inject your bad mood on the staff at the airport or on the flight crew. It was wonderful that your trip on the way home was comfortable. Looking forward to your videos this year.
This is why I always have a small Carry-on roller bag with extra clothes and toiletries. Just in case, by some crazy means an airline looses my main checked bag. Lmfao are you kidding Noel. Just buy more clothes or at least admit that you aren't enjoying your time. To cancel an entire trip over a lost bag insane. Shit happens, buy a few t shirts for the week.
Love your channel Noel, but for my money, Singapore Airlines is still a better business class than Polaris, or any other US airline for that matter. ;)
I flew on this airline class during a business trip to new york, it wasn't a good experience overall but Noel seems to have had a more pleasant experience than me.
Depends on the route too. United faces stiff competition on the Asia Pacific routes with Asia carriers so you can see that influence on United attention to detail here. The only let down it seem is the food which they’re redeveloping according to their management. On other routes to Europe and Latin America they can be a hit or miss. United also have a much more developed Asia Pacific route network and is the biggest U.S. carrier serving the regions.
I am surprised as you as a seasoned traveler that you curtailed your trip because of a delayed bag. It's part of travel. Buy some new clothes and then continue, come on Noel, some Brit Grit!
Surely buying new clothes would ha been a much cheaper option than returning to the US and adding two trans pacific flights to do the Japanese legs missed on this trip. Agree with the comments about SG business class seats try to be too clever but don’t really work, the food on SG isn’t as good as others based on my recent LHR-SiN-BKK return trip.
I am a frequent traveller and would currently not consider checking ANY luggage in. Far too many people getting bags lost. If there is anything I need down route, I go and buy it. I am also lucky that my regular hotels agree to store some of my clothes for me. I have an amazing GEGO tracker, which has it's own sim card and works fabulously. But when I see you Noel, cutting a trip short because of a lost bag (with a tracker) it just reinforces the fact, why I refuse to check any bags in at the moment. Looking forward though to seeing you Japanese adventure in the coming months..
I will used a checked bag if and only if I am flying non-stop to/from my destination. Like an upcoming trip that is LAX - Zurich non-stop. Otherwise I am with you.
Flew Polaris on a 777 IAD-BRU back in early 2019. Flown Business 3x (4x if you count a misclassified row DFW-MIA) with the other two being a VS 350 and a VS 789 and...yep, I'd take the Polaris seat over the other two. So this trip teport rings true for me, though I haven't made it up front on DL or AA current products.
I wish United's food and service was as good as the seats. But I still choose Polaris over a lot of other airline's business class for the seats. I do still prefer ANA or JAL over United.
Flight Price: $2583.62 (£2135) / $0.31 per mile (originally NRT-SFO but changed free of charge to SIN-SFO).

Was it cheaper to go through SFP than IAD? No straight shots to HOU or was that extortionate too?

The boss has spoken and wants Noel home to wash up
Noel, the "hometown airline" thing is a colloquial term where a legacy airline has a major hub where no other airline has a hub. So, Houston for United, Dallas for American (their headquarters) and Atlanta for Delta (their headquarters).
It gets weird cuz there are others inherited that are still exclusive hubs that are still open
EWR cuz of United buying continental which at the time was actually bigger than UAL
Salt Lake for instance is a delta hub that was inherited in the 80s by delta buying WESTERN airlines they kept it
Unlike say St. Louis which American abandoned (delta has more service) shortly after buying out TWA
Stl in the day was bigger than O'Hara cuz of the McDonnell Douglas plant and being the home hub for TWA
Then let's not get into Alaska air and sea tac which is a home hub for their Alaska service but they lease and codes share a LOT
Also dfw is wierd cuz it used to be a hub for 2 airlines in the 80s American bought deltas hub and now its a mega hub beyond united and O'Hare or delta in Atlanta
Oh my memories of that delta hub in dfw
Forgot American and Charlotte AND Raleigh which were the 2 main hubs of USAIR which they kept both despite being so close to each other
(If your wondering that comes from usair getting its big national exposure from buying regional carrier Piedmont and the way they use it does help with transcontinental service and to better serve texas/south)
Yep. I live in Salt Lake City so mine is Delta.
@syxepop O'Hare is not exclusive to United, though Chicago is their headquarters. American has a major hub there too.
He got some socks in the amenity kit, quick, turn around and carry on with the trip!
A question? Would you have been able to replace the clothes and gear in your suitcase easily and cheaply enough to continue the trip?
He didn’t even have to leave the airport. I saw someone describe that place as “a shopping mall with parking stalls for 737s”. After being there-that’s an extremely good description
Yeah. A trip to Uniqlo or somewhere like that would have resolved the problem in 30 minutes.
Just seems an unfortunate dummyspit. I get it. It's been a stressful time but it just seems a bit of an over reaction.
I think there's more to this story that he probably didn't want to reveal. Oh well.....
Just a thought surely the cost of replacing clothes would be far cheaper than a business class flight back to the USA, ?
@@TheObladeeoblada his ‘stuff’ was in the bag. Things that he does not have to disclose or explain. Get a grip. Just popping out buying everything new is not always the answer. He is annoyed and rightly so.

Polaris was a hit with us too in terms of their product.
United is a very terrible airline 🤦♂️ Stop brainwashing people
USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!
United’s flight crews for international flights are almost always very nice. But I’ve had an awful lot of United domestic flights where the crews were some of the worst I’ve ever come across lol. In my experience, Delta has the best and most consistently nice flight crews for domestic flights.
@@lucast3006That’s what I keep saying. Delta is amazing when it comes to domestic flights, but United really shines internationally.
Blooming heck, really? That flight alone could’ve bought you 3 new wardrobes...
I mean, changing my flight to a week earlier didn't cost anything...

The cost per mile has been missing from the last number of trips which would lead me to believe Noel has succummbed to accepting free flights from the airlines. How else could you justify giving up a week in Japan over a lost bag? Or maybe there was never a Japan trip to being with?

European airlines are worse than North American airlines. Don’t kid yourself.
That is hard when you aren't in one place long enough to go shopping for cloths & a new bag. He goes from flight to flight to make several months content, on one trip. He also transitions through countries & doesn't have a visa to actually enter that country.
Actually it was just a case of calling the airline and getting them to change my flight. That doesn't cost £3000 lol
Love the videos, but I agree with all the comments here. Should have continued on. Cutting the trip short because you lose some clothes is weird. Just go buy some new stuff. Easy.

Its not like you dress to success, Super dry stores are everywhere :) 😂😂
I thought in the last vlog you said you are buying emergency clothes to tide you over for your trip??? Confused 🤔
The airline gave him 'emergency clothes' which consisted of boxer shorts & a t-shirt. Some people have commented that they don't like that he wears shorts & a t-shirt, in business class. Don't think they would like it if he tried to board in just boxers & white t-shirt. lol

The crew were rude and the worst open my flight. The terrible cold food made me sick too
Delta One on an A350 is just as nice.

LOLOLOL! DELTA SUCKS!!!! Worst airline flying. LOLOL!
I genuinely thought the luxurious part was making fun of Scott Kirby's recent comments that United is the best in the world.
Lmfao are you kidding Noel. Just buy more clothes or at least admit that you aren't enjoying your time. To cancel an entire trip over a lost bag insane. Shit happens, buy a few t shirts for the week.
Has he been paid to say United is better than Singapore or is he fishing for some freebies in the future 🤔
If he said Singapore was better, would you say the same, or because that is your opinion, you would have no issues with that?
Ah yes, the typical “his opinion doesn’t correlate with mine so he must be getting paid” comment.
Really? Who paid hime? How much did he get? You sound very biased.
@@JeanClaudeCOCOThey are such a terrible airline and people are forced to fly them to Guam unfortunately
I am surprised as you as a seasoned traveler that you curtailed your trip because of a delayed bag. It's part of travel. Buy some new clothes and then continue, come on Noel, some Brit Grit!
Saturday and Sunday is reserved for aviation videos, yourself and Josh really do spoil us :D Keep it up!
I think United are paying......
Well if you find out, let me know how I can get them to pay me 😂
Surely buying new clothes would ha been a much cheaper option than returning to the US and adding two trans pacific flights to do the Japanese legs missed on this trip.
Nice video.. but better than Singapore airlines?
You might like Cathay and JAL's business class too
Flew Polaris on a 777 IAD-BRU back in early 2019. Flown Business 3x (4x if you count a misclassified row DFW-MIA) with the other two being a VS 350 and a VS 789 and...yep, I'd take the Polaris seat over the other two. So this trip teport rings true for me, though I haven't made it up front on DL or AA current products.
Becoming quite negative now, to be honest, it's all gone a bit weird, unfortunately
I wish United's food and service was as good as the seats. But I still choose Polaris over a lot of other airline's business class for the seats. I do still prefer ANA or JAL over United.
